By now Travis and Pierre had been debriefed on the Watchtower and the six heroes were resting up before they resumed the search, well, except for Kat that is.
"I'm happy to see mom again after so long, but I can't lose focus." Kat thought as she punched and kicked away at the punching bag whilst Yuri did sit-ups nearby. "Then again, keeping focus is one of my main struggles as part of my ADHD, thank god mom brought my medication up with her." Kat thought before glancing over at Yuri. "How many sit-ups are you up to?"
"I think I lost count at fifty." Yuri admitted as she glanced over at her friend. "How many times have you kicked and punched that bag?"
"Please, keeping track of sit-ups and push ups is easy, keeping track of my punches and kicks is the hard part." Kat responded with a grin as she continued to work out. "I'm kinda surprised Deadpool's first meeting with the league went as smoothly as it did, didn't that guy once shuriken Kitty Pryde so Wolverine would fight him?"
"Tell me about it, I'm half expecting him to send a toaster oven to the Daily Planet marked as "Kryptonite Bomb"." Yuri responded as she shook her head in disbelief. "I mean, the only reason he survived that fight against Wolverine was because they share the same healing factor, but does he really want to test that against someone as powerful as Superman?"
"The guy's insane, I wouldn't put it past him." Kat admitted with a shrug before she walked over to Yuri. "So, are your parents back on Earth?"
"Yeah, they are waiting with Kage at the apartment I share with Ehsan in Metropolis." Yuri nodded as she took a break from her workout and sat up with one raised knee which her arm resting on it. "Same deal with your mom, right?"
"Right except for the fact that she's in the apartment I share with Marco in Star City." Kat nodded as she made herself comfy. "We have a fully stocked fridge of food so I wouldn't be surprised if she's cooking up something for when I'm off shift."
"And if I wasn't going to be seeing my dog for the first time since we jumped over, I'd join you, she is an excellent cook even if we argue over which Asian cuisine is better." Yuri added just as the doors opened and Green Arrow entered the room. "I still say Japanese Cuisine beats Chinese Cuisine."
"Here we go again." Kat responded as she shook her head before noticing Green Arrow. "Arrow, you're a neutral third party, which cuisine is better, Chinese or Japanese?"
"Leave me out of it!" Green Arrow responded with a nervous laugh as the two women turned to him. "Because whichever answer I pick, I risk angering someone from that culture who could beat me in a fight!"
"Yeah, I guess that's fair." Yuri laughed in response before shaking her head. "I promise we won't be mad."
"No offence ladies but I'm just going to air on the side of caution." Green Arrow responded as he shook his head. "All I'll say is that I've experienced both cuisines and I'll say that they are both as good as each other."
"But you slightly prefer Japanese cuisine, right?" Yuri asked with a grin and Green Arrow shook his head whilst making a "zip it" motion with his fingers. "Anyone else been found yet?"
"Marco, the Alverez sisters and Ehsan are still looking for their families, once Travis and Pierre are good to go, they'll join in the search." Green Arrow responded with a nod as he turned to the younger heroes. "More of these so-called X-Men have been found, of note is this Wolverine guy, Vixen describes him as the grouchiest Superhero she's ever met."
"Yeah, that sounds like Wolverine." Kat nodded as she leaned back. "He didn't describe himself as "the best I am at what I do", right?"
"Word for word, though to be fair according to Vixen he could back up those words in a fight and then some." Green Arrow nodded as he got the idea. "What's his story anyway?"
"One of the oldest mutants alive back home, healing factor, adamantium skeleton, he's not exactly someone you pick fights with if you like your bones unbroken." Yuri explained with a shrug before noticing the surprised look on Green Arrow's face. "How did Vixen describe him?"
"Short, muscular hairy guy, late forties/early fifties at most, your saying he's older than he looks?" Green Arrow asked with a raised eyebrow and Kat nodded.
"I don't know the details but maybe his healing factor slowed down the aging process because according to him, he's a World War Two vet." Kat responded earning a surprised look from Green Arrow. "If your going to say that that should make him about seventy, well, try adding another sixty odd years to that?"
"That guy's over a hundred years old? Remind me to tape Vixen's reaction." Green Arrow chuckled before shaking his head. "Aside from them, some lady claiming to be Thor was found in Sweden appropriately enough, I'm guessing that's the same Thor you told us about during the China mission?"
"That's the one, don't ask for her story, we'll be here until the end of the shift." Kat responded and Green Arrow nodded once she got the idea. "First met her during the prison break out though she wasn't on my team, according to Marco she was chasing down some C-Lister at best called Big Wheel and he spent most of that fight wondering which god he had pissed enough for Thor to give chase to him."
"Haven't met the guy but it sounds like he would've been better off surrendering on the spot." Green Arrow chuckled in response as it sunk in. "Just saying, if I faced someone with the powers of a god and my codename was Big Wheel, I'd turn myself in as soon as possible."
"Sad thing is, he's so low on the villain totem pole that most heroes don't bother with him whenever he's on a rampage, hell he was the first Supervillain I sent to jail after he escaped from the Raft again." Yuri admitted before shaking her head. "You'd think he would've learned the first time around."
"They never do." Green Arrow responded as he shook his head. "Any other major baddies we should be on the lookout for? And I do mean heavy hitters like Graviton."
"Where do we start? Cap said everyone back home was in this dimension." Kat asked with a shrug before thinking for a bit. "There's the Red Skull, a guy literally so evil that he was handpicked as a protégé of Hitler, no I'm not kidding and yes, even his fellow Supervillains hate him, if we're talking on a galactic scale there's Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds, I'm pretty sure his nickname says it all."
"Yeah, I can tell just from the name that that guy sounds like a threat the whole League will need to be called in deal with." Green Arrow responded as he shuddered. "Wait, Cap said that everyone on Earth was transported over?"
"Yeah, so?" Yuri nodded before it hit her. "That's right, Galactus and his heralds are off in Space most of the time, which is a good thing for us considering his main diet is inhabited planets, then again even one of his heralds would be a handful because those guys are no pushovers."
"Remind me to never go into Space if I ever visit your home dimension." Green Arrow deadpanned before he started working out. "Anyway, your shifts should be up by now and I know your families are waiting for you ladies."
"I did say that I needed to catch up with mom." Kat admitted as the two Asian women stood up. "See you tomorrow Arrow."
"See you tomorrow." Green Arrow nodded before they went into the changing room to get changed into their costumes. "They've only been in the league for a little under three weeks and yet it feels like they've been here since the beginning." Green Arrow thought as he continued to work out. "And they are still so young as well, they have a bright future as heroes, provided nothing screws that up, that's for sure."
*the next day at Yuri's apartment*
As opposed to the previous day Yuri was up late today but she still needed another two or three hours of sleep if you asked her.
"Come on, more sleep please!" Yuri groaned as she reached over to hit the alarm clock, as she was lying facedown in a pillow Yuri wasn't paying attention and she could've sworn she felt a dog's fur for a second before she hit the alarm clock, even so Yuri did not want to get out of bed and turned onto her back.
And it was at that point that an ninety pound black furred German Shepherd leapt onto Yuri's bed and started licking her face excitedly, it took Yuri a moment to realize that she knew the dog in question very well as she sat up to greet Kage. "Yuri, has the new alarm clock woken you up yet?" Ehsan's clearly amused voice rang out from the living room and Yuri laughed as she started fussing around Kage.
"Fine, fine, I'm awake!" Yuri called back as she stroked Kage's head and the dog, who was a year old, licked her face in response, Yuri quickly got out of bed and opened the door to let Kage out so she could get dressed in peace. "Morning Ehsan, so, when did dad teach you the "having Kage wake me up if I sleep in" trick?" Yuri asked with a chuckle as Kage exited her room.
"Last night, after you called it a night." Ehsan responded as he bent over to stroke Kage. "Do you want the latest search party updates, or do you want to get dressed first?"
"What do you think?" Yuri asked as she glanced over at her messy hair in the mirror. "You know how long it takes me to sort my hair out so feel free to make a start on breakfast."
"Already on it, I sent Kage in because I was worried that your breakfast would get cold by the time you woke up." Ehsan responded and Yuri nodded before closing the door behind her. "Should be ready in about twenty minutes, if you take any longer, I might have to send Kage back in."
"Do that and you're in charge of cleaning my bedsheets." Yuri called back before she started straightening her hair. "Besides, we've been dating since we were eighteen, you should know how long it takes me to sort my hair out in the morning."
"Yeah and I find it hard to disagree with your mom about cutting it down to shoulder length." Ehsan called back and Yuri rolled her eyes in response. "Speaking of your mom, what was the arrangement regarding Kage again?"
"We're to look after him until my parents buy a house in Metropolis, I made sure to clear that with Green Arrow before I went to bed last night." Yuri responded as she continued to brush her hair. "He's fine with it but wants to meet Kage in person at the earliest opportunity, make sure that we're looking after him and all that."
"Good thing I thought to pop down the shops and get some dog food and treats then." Ehsan responded and almost on cue Kage let out an excited bark at the sound of food. "I was going to feed him after breakfast but now I'm not so sure."
"I don't know if they still did it after I moved out but when I was living with my parents he would eat at the same time as us, granted their house back home was considerably larger than our apartment and he ate in the kitchen whilst we ate in the dining room but still." Yuri admitted as she finally finished brushing her hair and started looking for something to wear. "I'll leave that up to you, I just finished my hair and I just gotta grab my day clothes."
"No makeup?" Ehsan called back as Yuri searched through her clothes and she shook her head.
"Not until my shift at the Watchtower starts, speaking off, what's the schedule for today?" Yuri asked as she looked between several top options before deciding on a black sleeveless top. "I know most of the league is out searching for refugees from our home dimension."
"You're on monitor duty for a few hours before Adriana takes over, I haven't received my assignment yet." Ehsan responded as Yuri grabbed her khaki pants. "After that? I think J'onn wants to see how your feeling after the fight with Graviton and Mr. Hyde yesterday."
"That reminds me, I need to ask Green Arrow if there's been any updates on that Joker case." Yuri responded before she sat down on the bed. "I'm about to get dressed but if you still want to send in Kage then I won't complain."
"I'll keep that in mind, breakfast should be about five minutes away." Ehsan called back and Yuri sighed as she started getting changed.
"To think, this whole crazy adventure started when three of our deadliest enemies escaped from jail." Yuri thought as she got dressed. "What else is going to happen this week?"
*later, on the Watchtower*
By now Yuri had settled into her shift on the monitoring station and after J'onn had down her the ropes she had proven to be quite adapt at it, but whilst that was going on another pair of heroes had settled down in the cafeteria.
"I'll tell you Travis, if you had told me that I'd be on a space station within a day when I started this week off, I would've called you crazy." Pierre commented as he sat opposite his friend, both male heroes were in their costumes but with their masks/helmets off to make eating easier revealing Pierre's neck length blonde hair and Travis's shoulder length black hair and multiple piercings. "And yet, everyone up is so cool about it, like it isn't a big deal that this dimension has a space station full of heroes who basically work in 9-5 shifts."
"It's certainly one of the more unique aspects of this dimension." Travis nodded in agreement as Fire and Ice walked by their table, the two men did their best to remain subtle about the fact that they were checking out the female heroes but couldn't tell if they had been caught in the act or not. "It's either that or the sheer power level of the guys here, Superman took out Graviton like it was nothing and Graviton's one of the most powerful Supervillains in our home dimension, Green Lantern's ring seems to have limitless power and that's just the guys we've seen in action."
"I doubt Green Lantern's ring is truly limitless in terms of power." Pierre commented as he shook his head. "I mean, the fact that just one guy has that much power is ludicrous enough but an entire intergalactic squadron? Overseen by a council on some far off planet? There has to be something to limit their powers beyond some space bureaucrats."
"Perhaps your right, or perhaps the Green Lanterns are just the equivalent of Thor from our own dimension." Travis shrugged his shoulders before he started eating. "But that doesn't change the fact that our dimension could be gone completely by now, the others seem to be okay with it, but I bet if I'd probe their minds it'd tell a much different story." Travis added not noticing the fact that Fire and Ice were listening in, nor the looks they were giving him.
Pierre on the other hand did notice them. "Err, Travis, may be a good idea to watch what you say in the next few seconds."
"What? It's not like I can use my powers whenever I want." Travis added before he took a sip from his drink. "Even if I wanted to do that, they'd need to sleep with me…"
"Err, what are your powers exactly?!" Fire asked with a raised eyebrow and Travis felt just about ready to toss himself out the nearest airlock at that exact moment. "All we heard was probing minds and sleeping with people."
"It probably doesn't help that the first time I used these powers in my Superhero identity was on Kat, who was naked and strapped to a table." Travis admitted as he tugged at his trenchcoat's collar and Pierre started banging his head against the desk. "It's nowhere near as dirty as I'm making it sound, I assure you, my Superhero identity is Dreamweaver, I can enter people's dreams and guide them for lack of better term, it just so happens that my powers require that I be asleep at the exact same time as the person in question."
"As for that Kat story, trust me when I say this, ladies, you really don't want to know." Pierre added once he had recovered from the shock. "All you need to know is that the perp didn't even last a year in prison before he was killed for what he planned to do to her."
"I'll take your word for it." Ice decided and Fire readily nodded in agreement as they got the idea. "But just a little advice Dreamweaver, watch what your saying when you're talking about your powers."
"Not the first time someone's told me that." Travis sighed and almost like clockwork the two older heroes resumed what they were doing. "No wonder I'm still single, first conversation with two attractive female heroes and not only do I start it by saying that I once saw Kat strapped to a table completely naked but I ended up defending said powers because I made them sound perverted!" Travis thought with a sigh before he and Pierre resumed eating their food. "Maybe I am destined to be forever alone, wonder if I can use the "married to the job" cliché as an excuse for that?"
*later*
Yuri continued to monitor the League's activities to the best of her abilities and with J'onn watching her from nearby it wasn't as difficult as it initially appeared to her, headache inducing? Definitely.
"Deadpool just had to get into an argument with Booster Gold, didn't he?" Yuri sighed to herself as she listened in on the argument and J'onn glanced over at her. "I don't know whether to tell them to get on with the mission or record the argument for prosperity, or at the very least my YouTube channel."
"Green Lantern Jessica Cruz is with them and she'll get them back in line." J'onn assured her after he checked the mission logs and Yuri nodded. "What are they arguing about?"
"Booster is, well, being Booster, Deadpool is ranting about being a character in a crossover fanfiction or something." Yuri responded as she shook her head. "I did say that the guy's insane."
"I don't think anything could've prepared them for that level of mental instability, most of the heroes that have crossed over have been made honorary league members, but I doubt Superman will do the same for this Deadpool." J'onn responded as he shook his head and Yuri nodded in agreement. "If you don't mind me asking, how are your parents settling in?"
"Dad's worried about his job prospects, he's a doctor by trade but all evidence of his work is back home and well, you know the situation there." Yuri explained with a shrug as she continued to monitor the league's activities. "Mom's just being optimistic as ever, it takes a lot to bring her down and well, I guess I inherited that from her."
"Indeed." J'onn nodded as Yuri continued her work. "And your dog?"
"We're looking after Kage until my parents find a place to stay, I'm not complaining because he's a big softy and I love that dog but it's going to take time." Yuri responded with a nod as she monitored the league's activities. "Whilst me and Ehsan are up here a neighbour is looking after Kage, we looked out by having a neighbour with a massive soft spot for German Shepherds and dogs in general."
"That is quite fortunate, though I have to admit I am curious as to how he got his name." J'onn responded and Yuri nodded knowing where this was going. "Kage doesn't sound like a normal Japanese name."
"It's not, it's the Japanese word for Shadow." Yuri explained as she continued to work away. "Kage has black fur so we thought it fit him."
"Black Canary reporting in." Black Canary's voice rang out interrupting the conversation and Yuri turned her attention back to the monitor. "Me and Green Arrow found another guy from your home dimension Yuri, calls himself The Punisher."
"Oh god, that guy." Yuri groaned as she ran a hand down her face. "Keep a very close eye on him! He's a vigilante who won't hesitate to kill criminals, Super or regular, there's only a handful of heroes he gets on with back home for that reason and neither me or any of the heroes who initially made the jump are among them."
"Got it, I'm not letting this guy leave me site." Green Arrow chimed in and Yuri nodded. "What's this guy's story?"
"To make a long story short, Vietnam vet whose wife and children got caught in a mob crossfire when he returned home." Yuri explained after thinking for a minute. "He's been waging a one man war on crime ever since, don't ask me how he looks that good at his age."
"I was about to say, he looks damn good for a guy who should be at least seventy." Green Arrow nodded once he got the idea. "Guess it's all the rage at crime or something, and he just confirmed it, sad thing is he doesn't seem like that bad a guy."
"Technically he's not, but his love of killing criminals tends to land him in hot water with the Superheroes, aside from the army training he has no special skills of his own so in theory, if he does step out of line you and Black Canary should be able to take him down." Yuri reasoned before shaking her head. "But the army training is a big caveat there."
"If nothing else, we might get a good fight out of it." Green Arrow chuckled and Yuri nodded in agreement. "Aside from him we haven't run into anyone new, we were going to beam him up for a debriefing but after what you just said? I doubt he'll be allowed to join the league, not even as an honorary member, the guy's been cooped up in an old abandoned building since he got teleported over, said he didn't really notice anything different because he was asleep at the time."
"I guess that is one thing we never accounted for, people making the jump whilst they're fast asleep." Yuri admitted before blushing slightly. "Can't help but feel sorry for any young couple who were having sex when the jump happened."
"I wasn't going to say that, but I guess that is a possibility." Green Arrow responded whilst clearly trying to remain professional. "Best case scenario, they end up in a hotel room bed or something similar and pick up where they left off, worst case they end up in a busy city street, or worse, next to a playground."
"Yeah, I would not want to try to explain that." Yuri winced in response before clearing her throat. "Nor would I want to be the hero to intervene there, that sounds like it'd get messy fast."
"Fast?" Black Canary scoffed and Yuri blushed furiously as her poor choice of words caught up with her. "Yuri, if your nights alone in the bedroom with Ehsan are going fast then he's doing it all wrong, or maybe that should be doing you all wrong."
"That's not what I meant!" Yuri quickly asserted before burying her face into her hands. "Just keep me updated, I'm on monitoring duty for the next hour before Adriana takes over, and can we please never speak of this again?"
"I don't know, what's it worth to you?" Green Arrow teased her, and Yuri groaned in response. "If your groaning that loudly then maybe you should expect a noise complaint from the neighbours."
"I hate you guys." Yuri responded jokingly before shaking her head. "Just keep me updated until Addy takes over?"
"Will do." Green Arrow nodded before he and Black Canary hung up.
"Don't let them get to you." J'onn assured her as he glanced up at Yuri. "You know they don't mean anything bad by it."
"I know, just frustrated that I didn't catch that slip up before I said that." Yuri admitted with a nod before shaking her head. "Any check ins on your end?"
"None yet but given that the refugees could be anywhere it's a miracle that we've made this much progress." J'onn pointed out and Yuri nodded in agreement. "Most of the refugees discovered today were located in the US but as we found with Katrina's mother they could be anywhere."
"Including some possibilities that I'd rather not think about." Yuri responded with a shudder and J'onn nodded in agreement. "How long until Adriana takes over? I want to see what Kat's doing in the holochamber."
"Just another half hour to go," J'onn informed her and Yuri nodded before resuming her duties.
*meanwhile*
Kat was back in the holochamber as Yuri had stated, however this time she was training with Shayera with Wonder Woman watching.
"Okay Kat, object is simple." Shayera informed the younger hero as Kat glanced around the holograms of several supervillains, namely Blockbuster, Solomon Grundy, Cheetah and KGBeast. "This is an endurance test, Wonder Woman will load in more enemies every five minutes, and don't worry, I told her to leave out Justice Lord Superman, if you can last the full twenty minutes you get a special prize."
"Twenty minutes again? You guys love that time limit." Kat snarked before shaking her head. "And what's the prize exactly?"
"Sparring match with me." Shayera responded giving Kat pause. "You may not be Thanagarian but we are both Superheroes with wings, difference is, I've had these my whole life, you've only had your wings since you were eighteen, and I think you still have a lot to learn about them and how they can be used in combat based on the footage I saw."
"What? Like my overuse of the Spin Dash?" Kat asked as she folded her arms and Shayera nodded. "In my defence that move has only failed me twice."
"But as you continue to go up against the tougher enemies from this dimension and your home dimension, the diminishing returns will continue." Shayera responded and Kat hesitated before nodding. "Ready when you are, Diana."
"Starting the clock, now." Wonder Woman responded and the holograms of the Supervillains charged towards Kat.
"She isn't doing too badly." Wonder Woman thought as the doors opened and Lin stepped in, Wonder Woman glanced up and greeted her warmly. "You must be Katrina's mother, correct?"
"Yes, but please, call me Lin." Lin nodded as she watched her daughter in action. "Kat did mention that the training was tough."
"Today's session only just started." Wonder Woman nodded as she glanced up at the timer. "How is your house search going?"
"It's going well, Green Arrow will be showing me my new home once he's back from League Business, until then me and Yuriko's parents have been allowed to stay on the Watchtower." Lin responded as Kat ducked under simultaneous punches from Solomon Grundy and Blockbuster and kicked the two villains away with a pair of roundhouse kicks. "She may be stubborn and easily frustrated, but you won't find a better student than Kat."
"I did notice that after the last session which I was personally overseeing." Wonder Woman nodded before seeing that five minutes were up. "Shayera, Katrina, I'm loading in another Supervillain now."
"Understood, Kat, get ready." Shayera instructed the younger hero as she fought off Cheetah and seconds later Killer Croc was loaded in.
"Oh great, I get to deal with this guy again." Kat groaned as Killer Croc charged towards her, with some quick thinking Kat flew up towards the much larger Supervillain and planted her feet on his chest before flipping him over sending him crashing into KGBeast and Cheetah and knocking them out.
"Not bad, but you still have three villains to deal with." Shayera reminded Kat as Killer Croc got back to his feet and the remaining three villains stared down Kat. "And don't forget, you have to deal with me at the end."
"And we've still got fifteen minutes to go." Kat sighed as she got ready for battle. "Not the first time I've faced off against several Supervillains at once, definitely the first time that I'm getting a sparring match against another hero at the end of it however." Kat thought before she leapt into battle against the three holograms.
*elsewhere in the world*
The team comprised of Mental Boy, Stargirl, S.T.R.I.P.E and Vixen were currently searching through one of the rougher neighbourhoods in Chicago, Illinois and weren't having much luck.
"Okay, I say we give it another five minutes before we move on." Vixen advised the other heroes as they walked through the streets and the street gangs wisely kept their distance from the four heroes. "If any heroes are here then I think we would've run into them by now."
"It's not like Chicago is a small place." Marco responded with a shrug as he followed the others on his glider. "We just happened to start our search in the bad part of town, we might have better luck in the other parts of the city."
"He's got a point, there were reports of an unknown customed individual in this area." S.T.R.I.P.E nodded in agreement as they made their way through. "Off course, it might be that the person in question has already moved on, the street gangs have been smart enough to avoid us but who knows how long that'll last."
"It's not like we can't take them." Stargirl responded cockily as she gave her staff a twirl. "Between my staff, Marco's shields, dad's mech and Vixen's powers in general we can take on any gang foolish enough to pick a fight with us."
"I'm pretty sure the bigger issue there is the numbers game said gang will have on us." Marco pointed out as he turned to the younger hero. "My shields can only hold out so long, they get a recharge whenever I redirect the collected energy towards my opponents but if we're taking on say, twenty, thirty guys? It wouldn't take long for things to get ugly, especially if they draw a gun on us."
"All the more reason for us to move on." Vixen nodded in agreement before they heard a strange noise coming from the top floor of a nearby abandoned building. "That might be another jump, Mental Boy, Stargirl, go check it out, me and S.T.R.I.P.E will meet you up there."
"On it." Marco nodded before he led Stargirl up to the top floor, Marco reached the open window that the sound had come from first and peered in.
And it didn't take Marco long to recognize the woman who had jumped over, nor did it take him long to notice the younger woman by her side. "Well, well, what do we have here?" The leader of a gang of thugs said as they turned to the sound and noticed the red-haired policewoman, she was in her early thirties and had shoulder length red hair in a ponytail whilst the other woman was in her twenties and more casually dressed and had slightly longer hair. "Got lost on the way to the costume party sweet cheeks?"
"I'm Detective Jennifer Steele off the NYPD." Jennifer, or Jenny as she was known to Marco and Kat, responded as she flashed her police badge. "And frankly I don't know where I am."
"New York? You're a long way from home babe." The leader scoffed as he licked his lips. "Don't worry, we'll send you back to New York, in pieces!"
"Stargirl, now!" Marco instructed the younger hero and she nodded before firing a blast from her staff at the leader knocking him clean out, the remaining thugs looked up and once they saw the two heroes they wisely legged it out of the room, Marco and Stargirl entered the room and Marco ran up to Jenny. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Jenny nodded as Marco helped her up and Stargirl did the same for her sister. "Never thought I'd see you again Marco, are the others safe?"
"Kat, Yuri and Ehsan are safe, as for how you got here, it's a long story." Marco responded with a nod and Jenny breathed a sigh of relief.
"You know her?" Stargirl asked as she turned to Marco who nodded in response.
"You know that Kat's dad was a cop, right?" Marco asked and Stargirl nodded. "Jenny here was her dad's partner on the force and busted me and Kat as mutants alongside her dad."
"That feels like a lifetime ago to be frank." Jenny admitted as she messaged her forehead in annoyance, it was at that moment that Vixen and S.T.R.I.P.E entered the room having dealt with the fleeing thugs. "I see you've managed to some friends here already."
"I try my best." Marco grinned before introducing Jenny to the older heroes. "Even after her dad's death, Jenny and the rest of the NYPD remained close confidents of me and the others, she's trust worthy."
"It's a shame that this is the end of the road for her." An all too familiar female voice rang out and the heroes span around seeing Shockwave at the window. "Long time no see Marco pity Kat isn't around."
"Why? So, you could lust over here?" Marco asked as his eyes narrowed and Shockwave scoffed in response as she produced some electricity in her hands.
"Don't get me wrong, that's definitely a plus but I can make do with drooling over blondie and Little Ms. Cleavage over there." Shockwave scoffed as she looked between Stargirl and Vixen whose eyes narrowed. "But there is another reason, we both know you can't beat me."
"Maybe on his own he can't." Vixen responded as she glared at the female Supervillain. "But with the power of the league on his side? You can't win Shockwave."
"You can certainly try." Shockwave responded with a grin before retreating through the window. "Catch me if you can!" Shockwave added before flying off.
"We should go after them, but I don't feel comfortable leaving Jenny here." Marco commented as he glanced over at the policewoman and her sister. "Think J'onn will let us beam them up?"
"He did the same for Yuriko's parents, so I don't see why not." Vixen nodded in understanding and Marco quickly put a hand to his earpiece.
"J'onn, we found two refugees from my home dimension, they aren't Superheroes, but they are close friends with me and Kat, in fact one of them worked with her dad." Marco explained as he glanced towards Jenny and her sister. "And we just located Shockwave, we would leave them here, but we found them in a rough neighbourhood, you mind beaming them up?"
"Certainly, but it might be a good idea to explain what's about to happen." J'onn responded with a nod and Marco walked up to the two women.
"Look, the next few seconds are going to be really weird, but I have to go after Shockwave." Marco stated and Jenny nodded as she got the idea. "So, I must make this quick, have you ever wanted to go to Space? Yes? Good! You're about to go to a Space Station orbiting the earth!"
"Wait, what…." Was all Jenny managed to blurt out before the two women were beamed up by J'onn.
"I'm going to assume that Kat's dad had more than one colleague, we need to be on the lookout for any other cops from his precinct." Vixen commented and Marco nodded in agreement. "Any others you knew personally?"
"Off the top of my head? There's Malcom Reynolds, after me and Kat got busted as mutants, I spent some time with him amending a statement, long story." Marco responded once Vixen raised an eyebrow. "I would say the Captain Steven Bennet but Kat knew him better from visiting her dad at work, even then I don't think they really interacted much outside of her dad's funeral and occasionally dropping off a perp, they and Jenny are the only guys I knew on a first name basis and considering how big New York is."
"Right, bit unrealistic to expect you to know everyone who works there." Vixen nodded once she got the idea. "In the meantime, we had better catch up with Shockwave." Vixen added before they left the building.
*bit later*
The heroes had eventually caught up with Shockwave but only after they realized that she had moved into one of the more prominent areas of the city, still there was a lot on Marco's mind.
"This is not like her." Marco commented with a frown as he folded his arms catching Stargirl's attention, once he saw that he had Stargirl's attention Marco elaborated. "Jess…...I mean Shockwave has never been afraid of a fight, it didn't matter who it was, if you could fight, she would take them on."
"You make it sound like you know her personally." Stargirl commented and Marco nodded.
"She was a trainee, one of the best trainees in terms of raw power." Marco explained before frowning under his mask "But even when she was on the side of good, me and the other trainees and even the trainers always thought that there was something off about her, like she was mentally ill, turned out she had lied about when she got her powers, among other things, and had tested them out by causing a massive jailbreak at The Raft."
"Kat mentioned that when we were doing monitor duty together the other day." Stargirl nodded as she got the idea. "She didn't mention the fact that Shockwave caused it."
"There's a good reason, that jailbreak indirectly lead to her dad's death." Marco explained as he lowered his head which caught the attention of Vixen and S.T.R.I.P.E. "If you want details, ask Kat because it's not my place to say really, but I wasn't present when Jessica blurted out that she caused the blackout that led to the jailbreak but Kat was and she was pissed off, something snapped inside Jessica's brain the day she got kicked out of the training program and as far as me and the other former trainees are concerned, the old Shockwave died that day."
"To me, that just sounds like something that could've been addressed with a few therapy sessions, but it sounds like she was unhinged from the beginning." S.T.R.I.P.E chimed in as he turned to the younger heroes. "Who knows? Maybe if she had gotten the help she needed, she would be on our side."
"That is something that me and the others have been wondering about, thing is, when the program first started it was just me and Kat so Cap didn't see therapists as being worth the money, even after the other trainees signed on it wasn't high on the priority list." Marco explained before shaking his head. "After Shockwave showed her true colours, Cap hired a team of therapists and implemented monthly mandatory sessions for the remaining trainees with an open door policy in case any of the trainees needed an open ear." Marco added before grinning a bit under his mask. "Among other things, it was through those sessions that Kat finally got her ADHD diagnosis, but we still wonder what could've been with Jessica."
"Yeah, I can see why." Vixen nodded in agreement before spotting Shockwave on the roof of a nearby building. "Speak of the devil, you guys see her right?"
"I see her." Marco nodded before he, Stargirl and S.T.R.I.P.E went up to the roof. "Give it up Jessica, you can't beat us on your own."
"Don't call me that." Jessica responded as her eyes narrowed. "Far as I'm concerned? Jessica Andrews died the moment the world turned it's back on her, only Shockwave remains, and I'm about to light you idiots up like a Christmas Tree."
"On your own?" Stargirl scoffed as she flew up to the front. "I know you like a fight Shockwave but there's a difference between that and sheer stupidity."
"If you want to talk about sheer stupidity, why don't you ask Marco about the time Kat thought it would be a good idea to pick a fight against The Hulk?" Shockwave asked and Marco's eyes narrowed under his helmet.
"That's a low blow and you know it Jessica." Marco pointed out and Shockwave growled before producing electricity from her hands. "And one way or another, we're bringing you down!"
"Please, I may be in a hurry to see Kat again." Jessica responded as she licked her lips with a lustful smirk on her face before snapping her fingers. "But I'm not stupid, there's a reason I brought you guys here."
"About time!" A new female voice rang out and the heroes span around to see Electro and The Rhino behind them. "Long time no see Mental Boy, when was the last time? During the Raft prison break?"
"I didn't even take you guys on during that breakout!" Marco pointed out before the two electrical Supervillains threw electricity at the four heroes which Marco deflected. "Guys, the girl in the ugly as sin costume is Electro, this should be pretty obvious, but she has similar powers to Shockwave, the big guy's Rhino, super strong, durable, dumb as a rock, that suit is grafted onto his skin and he's generally used as dumb muscle."
"I'll deal with him." Vixen nodded as she activated her powers. "Don't know what we're supposed to do about the shock rock chicks though."
"My powers can keep them at bay long enough to collect enough energy to blast them." Marco responded before he realised something. "Hey Shockwave, you realise that you are still outnumbered right?"
"Why yes, I did take basic math in school." Shockwave responded mockingly before the sound of a motorbike revving up rang out and Marco's eyes widened. "But the fourth guy was a little delayed, you know him very well." Shockwave added as Hellraiser rode his motorbike onto the roof and revved it up.
"I wanted to blow up that bitch." Hellraiser growled as he revved up his bike some more. "But I'll make do by sending her boyfriend to her in pieces!"
"That's Hellraiser?" Stargirl whispered to Marco with a gulp who nodded. "The guy with more Superpowers than you care to count, right?"
"Right, but here's a basic rundown." Marco responded as he turned to Hellraiser. "Super Strength, endurance, the ability to turn his arm into a rocket launcher through some ungodly method, that bike of his can travel at speeds that no normal motorbike would ever be able to achieve and oh yeah, he's a sadist who's been linked to multiple brutal rapes and murders of young women since he got his powers." Marco added as he shuddered. "Kat's only ever been able to defeat him by outsmarting him, which is thankfully easy to do because he makes the Rhino look like a criminal mastermind!"
"Kid, I get that you are being truthful, but did you have to say that out loud in front of someone that powerful and with that much of a sadistic streak?" S.T.R.I.P.E responded, and Marco's eyes widened as Hellraiser got visibly angry., "J'onn, we're going to need backup down here, preferably a heavy hitter."
"Yuriko and I have been listening in, Wonder Woman and Shayera are the only available heavy hitters available and they are training Katrina." J'onn responded and Marco frowned as he heard that. "That was well timed, Katrina just finished her training session."
"How did it go?" Marco asked at which point Yuri chimed in.
"She walked out of the holochamber saying the word "ow" with every single step, I think it's safe to say that it was rough on her." Yuri responded in a tone that somehow managed to combine amusement and concern. "Her mom is with her though, that said J'onn just explained the situation to Wonder Woman and Shayera and they are running to the teleporters as we speak."
"Good to know, we can really use the backup." Marco responded with a sigh of relief before he turned to the four villains. "You guys want a real fight? You've got one." Marco added as Shayera and Wonder Woman beamed down. "Meet Wonder Woman and Shayera, they'll be your ass kickers for the night."
"I don't care who you broads are." Hellraiser growled as he revved up his engine. "You'll be roadkill by the time I'm done with you!" Hellraiser roared before he raced his motorbike across the rooftop, Wonder Woman dodged out of the way whilst Shayera flew towards Hellraiser and gave him a solid hit with her mace knocking hum off his bike, Hellraiser clutched his side whilst grunting in pain and looked down at her hand. "Blood?!" Hellraiser demanded once he saw the crimson liquid pouring out from his wound. "You're the first one to make me bleed since I took this form."
"Your powers are magical by nature huh big guy?" Shayera responded with a grin as she got ready to swing her mace again. "My mace is made of Nth Metal, I'll spare you the details, but it disrupts magical energy, in other words, since you got your powers by way of magic your vulnerable to my mace."
"Hey, any chance I could get my hands on some of that Nth Metal?" Marco asked once he processed what Shayera had said in his wind whilst keeping Rhino and Electro at bay and Vixen shook her head.
"It's not native to Earth, it can only be found on Shayera's home world of Thanagar." Vixen explained as she glanced over at the younger hero. "And for reasons I won't go into right now, we don't exactly have a great relationship with the rest of Shayera's race."
"Sorry I asked." Marco responded with a wince before letting Vixen out of his shields so she could deal with Rhino. "Stargirl, S.T.R.I.P.E., do you want to be let out to deal with these shocking ladies?"
"The only thing shocking about Shockwave is her costume, seriously what parent in their right mind lets her go out dressed like that?" S.T.R.I.P.E asked as he looked over Shockwave's extremely revealing outfit and Jessica growled before throwing a massive bolt of electricity at Marco's shield nearly bucking it. "I just touched one of her berserk buttons, didn't I?"
"Let me it this way S.T.R.I.P.E., the only topic that's a sorer spot for Jessica than her family is how she was kicked off the training program." Marco nodded in response and S.T.R.I.P.E quickly got the idea. "I don't know if my shields can take another shot like that so if you want to join in the action, now's the time."
"Leave the chick with the daddy issues to me pops." Stargirl volunteered herself catching Marco off guard. "You take the fashion villain victim?"
"Deal." S.T.R.I.P.E. nodded before Marco let them out of his shield.
"Okay, seriously, she's your daughter?" Marco asked the dup and Stargirl shook her head.
"Stepdaughter, it's a long story." Stargirl corrected him and Marco nodded as he got the idea. "I haven't filled Kat in on the details either now that I think about it, but I'll tell you both once we're back on the Watchtower."
"That's if you get that far!" Shockwave responded as she made a lunge towards S.T.R.I.P.E. only to get blasted by Stargirl's staff. "Hey Marco, you ever tell your new buddies about the time I fried a heavily pregnant woman in front of her family?" Shockwave asked as she decked Stargirl across the jaw to knock her away. "Just saying, killing people in front of their families is one of my favourite hobbies."
"Thanks, I had literally just gotten over the nightmares from that incident." Marco responded before Wonder Woman and Shayera glanced over at him whilst battling Hellraiser. "Yes, that actually happened." Marco commented once he saw the looks on their faces. "Before you ask why Cap would let someone like that receive training, she was very good at hiding just how demented she was and that woman wasn't her first kill, not even after she got booted out."
"Jeez, no wonder Cap hired psychologists after she got the boot." Stargirl commented before receiving a powerful blow from Shockwave knocking him down to the roof.
"Make no mistake, I "snapped" because the world turned its back on me." Jessica growled as she prepared to let loose with her powers. "But once I'm done with your world, no one will dare turn their back on me, pity, because you are a hot babe, but orders are orders and I have to kill every League member I come across."
"Pity that you are so fixated on that that you have forgotten about that "hot babe's" father." S.T.R.I.P.E. responded before throwing the out cold Electro at Shockwave knocking her back. "And I don't care who gave you those orders, you still have to deal with the rest of the league."
"Your right, besides, the night is still young." Shockwave responded before she whistled over to Hellraiser. "Hey, Hellraiser, we're leaving." Jessica added before hitting a hidden button on her belt and opening a portal behind them. "We've got bigger fish to fry."
"What about Rhino?" Hellraiser asked as Vixen did battle with the much larger villain and Jessica scoffed.
"What about him? We both know he won't give the league anything useful." Shockwave commented before the two villains stepped through the portal. "Oh, and Marco? Tell Kat I said hi." Jessica added before they disappeared through the portal.
"That was not how I was hoping my first encounter with her would go." Marco commented as he dropped his shields, Rhino was quickly knocked out by a combination attack from Wonder Woman, Shayera and Vixen and Marco turned to them. "By the way, did Jenny make it to the Watchtower okay?"
"You mean the policewoman? Yeah, she's on the Watchtower, she wasn't exactly thrilled about it." Shayera nodded once she got the idea. "She seemed to have calmed down by the time we left but J'onn volunteered you for the debriefing."
"Great, that's going to be fun." Marco grumbled before Wonder Woman made the call for them to be beamed up.
*at a secret location*
The portal opened and Shockwave and Hellraiser stepped through into a vast open building that had most of the lights out, Jessica led the charge before they were stopped by Lex Luther.
"You know what your orders were." Lex commented as he looked down at the younger villain. "If you had stayed behind you could've fulfilled them."
"And feel the wrath of two women strong enough to injure Hellraiser?!" Shockwave pointed out as she motioned to the much larger Supervillain. "Seriously, that was the first time I've ever seen him bleed, I may be tough, but I know when to fold them!"
"She ain't kidding." Hellraiser grunted in pain as he clutched his sides. "Those chicks weren't like any other Superhero from our home dimension."
"Wonder Woman and Shayera are strong but not invincible." Lex Luther responded before hitting a button and causing the lights to come on revealing well over a hundred Supervillains of different power levels from both dimensions. "But no hero can stand against an army, and what better army is there, than the Legion of Doom."
"My name is legion, for we are many." Jessica responded with a big grin as she surveyed the crowd. "You and Target have been busy."
"That sabotaged portal generator was just the start." Lex nodded in agreement as he looked over the villains. "And there are still many to come."
