Chapter 6: Reborn Tries To Set Me Up with Hibari Kyoya
Though I had been expecting lots of dedication to the group, Tsuna had somehow convinced Reborn to leave me out of most of the gatherings, considering I did have to pay for my own living expenses and had work responsibilities, to which I was immediately grateful for. I was a bit curious of how Tsuna convinced Reborn, as I knew there was no way Reborn would willingly agree to such a considerate request without an ulterior motive.
I found out once I arrived at school today.
Pompadours lined up assembly-line style in front of the school, as if they were about to escort someone important. I didn't give it any thought, until they blocked me from entering the school and the one with a plant(?) in his mouth approached me. "Are you Kamiya Izanami-san?"
Uncomfortable with the stares from both the Disciplinary Committee members and the students in the surrounding area, I nodded quickly, feeling anxious.
He nodded, and then all at once every single one of them formed some sort of weird bodyguard formation around me, which felt more like imprisonment by the way, and lead me to their destination: the Disciplinary Committee clubroom.
The guy entered the room, and he bowed. "Chairman, she has arrived." Without hearing any sort of verbal confirmation, he left and turned to me with a smile. "Please go ahead and enter, Kamiya-san."
I blinked. "But why am I-?"
"Let's go, everyone. The Chairman hates crowds!"
"Yes, Kusakabe-san!"
The pompadours started to disappear one after the other, and eventually I was left in front of the clubroom with just me and the bloodthirsty leader of the Disciplinary Committee himself, Hibari Kyoya.
I entered the room, feeling both awkward and confused. "Can I know why you ordered bodyguards to fetch me, Hibari?"
The prefect made no sign of answering me and continued to sift through his paperwork. Inwardly shrugging, I was about to leave when his piercing gaze kept me locked in place. His eyes narrowed. "Herbivore. NamiChu students can't work."
Oh shit. I forgot he had prolonged my punishment for that, considering he knew about it and he saw me working!
I smiled nervously. "Uhh… y-you're right! I'm sorry I'm breaking the rules, but my financial situation isn't the greatest you know, and I am the only one left in my family that can take care of myself, so I was really hoping you can maybe just... let it go-Eek!"
BAM!
Hibari pressed me against the wall with his tonfa on my chest, and his heavy gaze was starting to make me both flustered and uncomfortable. I averted my eyes. "I-is that a no…?"
Why does this bastard always end up doing something that is encouraging my hormones to react, anyway?! Doesn't he realize this is mostly doing the opposite effect of what he wants-?!
"You're now a part of the Disciplinary Committee, herbivore. If you skip out on any of your responsibilities…" His familiar carnivorous smirk appeared. "I'll bite you to death." He released his hold on me, and left the room with the swish of his blazer.
I found myself sinking to the floor into a crouch, covering up my burning face and trying to cease my heart from beating out of my chest.
This is definitely Reborn's doing.
Why do I get the feeling this isn't the only thing he has planned for me?
That was definitely not the only thing he had planned for me.
"All deliveries to Hibari Kyoya are to be done by you, Reborn-san said," Tsuyoshi-san told me with a frown that day.
My eyes widened. "Huh?!"
Tsuyoshi-san sighed. "I didn't really want to listen to him, Nami-chan, believe me, but…" Suddenly the old man waggled his eyebrows and he started nudging me. "That's the name of your boyfriend, isn't it?~ Reborn-san probably just wants you to spend more time with your lover, good for you Nami-chan~!"
"HUH?!"
Takeshi, who always managed to eavesdrop in the right conversations, dropped the duffel bag he was holding in shock. "Nee-chan, you have a thing with Hibari?!"
"WHAT?!" Before the situation could get out of hand, I shook my head vehemently. "Of course not, I don't understand how anyone could have a civil conversation with him, never mind date him-!"
"But you're in the Disciplinary Committee now, right? I heard from the kid, doesn't that mean you're the one that has civil conversations with him?"
I tried to find a way to argue against it, but couldn't find anything. It was true that I was probably the only one Hibari talked to, besides the other members of the Disciplinary Committee, but that didn't necessarily mean I-
"Nee-chan... do you like him?"
"HUH?!" My face heated up, and I started to panic, vehemently shaking my head at the thought. "No no no no no no NOPE! Who would like that stupid bastard, all he cares about is fighting and Namimori and the stupid school anyway-"
"But do you wish he cared about you?"
Okay, Takeshi, I'm going to stop you there with those thought-provoking questions that I don't really need right now.
"The point is, I'm not dating him! Therefore, Oji-san, please don't make me do this! If I go over he's just gonna try to get me to fight him again!"
Tsuyoshi-san tilted his head in confusion. "But you wanted to get better with your combat abilities, didn't you Nami-chan? That's why you asked me to teach you a few pointers."
"I mean, yeah I did ask you, and I do want to get better, but I'm still a pacifist you know! I'm not going to willingly jump into a fight, it's just for self-defense-!"
"Oyaji, you know how to fight?"
Welp, we just opened another can of worms, didn't we?
I laughed awkwardly, feeling the atmosphere tense up and I took the takeout box of sushi from Tsuyoshi-san's hands. "On second thought, maybe I should go deliver this to Hibari, haha! I'm going to depart now, have fun you two!~"
I escaped the restaurant, closing the door behind me.
That's definitely a discussion I do not want to be a part of.
I stared at the box in my hands, and sighed in defeat.
Guess I'm doing this after all.
Seriously, is my fate just tied to Hibari or something?
I get that Hibari is strong, but why is Reborn solely setting me up with him? Is no one else available? It's almost as if Oji-san's guess is right, and Reborn is setting me up with him as if he wants us to be a couple, but that's just ridiculous-
"But do you wish he cared about you?"
I slapped my face.
Definitely not. Nope. We are not, I repeat, not going there.
You can't trust men.
All men are scum.
You learned that from your very own father, Nami.
With a resolute drive to remove all weird thoughts, I sat on the scooter and headed for the dreaded Hibari residence.
