Chapter 14: Hibari Kyoya Doesn't Fight Injured Animals

I woke up again on a soft surface. When all I saw was the ceiling and Hibari's face averted to the side, I realized my head was on his lap. Whether it was because I had moved there myself and he was too lazy to move me or because he had placed me there remained uncertain. Of course, my face did not fail to flush. As Hibari seemed preoccupied with his thoughts, he didn't notice me stirring awake so I took advantage of it, adjusting my position to a more comfortable one and shutting my eyes again.

Well, if he noticed I was awake he didn't say anything.

"The green trail of Namimori~ It's not big nor small~ Nami is great~"

Hibird finally got the song down within ten tries, to which is what caused me to go back to sleep. Despite having my eyes closed the entire time, it was way too amusing hearing Hibari teach Hibird, considering how he always called it "Little one" and always sang the anthem multiple times for the bird to get the right tone. After hearing the two sing the song constantly, I was able to rest easy when I heard the bird chirp the school anthem correctly.

It was a few moments of silence before I heard an explosion, and a very familiar voice speak during the chaos. "The only guy who'd love our lame school anthem... has to be you, right?"

Gokudera, I realized.

"What?!" Laughter, from the blonde dude I still didn't know the name of, "You turned to the half-dead guys for help?!"

"NamiChu's Disciplinary Committee Chairman, Hibari Kyoya and new Disciplinary Committee member, Kamiya Izanami…"

"Huh?! The Sanguigno girl is here too?" I heard Gokudera voice his confusion. "What in the world are you guys doing…?"

My eyes still snapped shut, Hibari made no effort to move from his spot. "Quiet," he ordered.

"Aw~ Is the duck afraid we're going to wake her up?~" I heard a clash. "You piss me off!"

I heard Hibari click his tongue in annoyance, and he gently moved me to the hard floor. I heard him stand, and I could imagine him glaring at Gokudera. "I could've got out on my own, but never mind. Shall I take care of those two herbivores?"

…Yeah, I'm too tired to fight. Let's just let Hibari do the rest.

The next time I woke up was on someone's back. It took me awhile to realize it was my father's. He heard me stir and stopped in his tracks, turning his face towards me with a smile. "You awake?"

I shut my eyes again. "Unfortunately. Why does everything hurt so much? I don't remember fighting that long"

He began to walk again, facing forwards. "Mukuro Rokudo had the Possession Bullet. He used it on every one of you, making you fight past your body limits, minus that boyfriend of yours."

At this point I was too tired to deny it. "Possession Bullet?"

"It was banned of usage a long time ago, because of its potential. Like the name states, it's a bullet that allows full control over someone's body."

"I see"

"Your friends are all recovering fast, by the way. Vongola Decimo did splendid in making sure of that. Since you seemed to have recovered the fastest, I figured you would prefer resting at home, so I'm taking you there right now."

"I see." Maybe it was because I was drowsy from sleeping for too long, but I yawned and mumbled, "Thanks, Tou-san."

He didn't answer, in fact stiffening at the rare address, but then he turned to me with a stupidly big smile. "Of course, Nami."

I stared at the note left on the table: "Left for business, will be back in a few."

Knowing him, he probably means a few weeks.

Inwardly shrugging, I searched for my glasses and put them on to stare at the clock, blanking.

...Did we have school today?

Everything was sore, and I really preferred not going, but then I remembered I had officially become a member of the Disciplinary Committee. Meaning I had to get up early to patrol and help with paperwork. I had to face Hibari.

My face flushed as I remembered falling asleep on Hibari's lap, and him having no apparent qualms with it, even getting annoyed that he had to move me.

Did he…?

Nope, nope nope nope!

Let's just get ready for school, Nami!

Throwing on my Disciplinary Committee uniform, I left the house, a foreign feeling in me I couldn't quite name. And then I saw Hibari waiting for me in front of my house.

...Huh?

He stared at me, his eyes moving to examine me as if he was checking for wounds, and then he stared at me. "You remembered," he simply stated.

Oh, he's talking about my newfound duties.

I shrugged. "The uniform is kinda hard to miss. And I like it, too."

It looked like his lips quirked up into a smile, but it was so slight that I could've imagined it. "Hn." He started to walk, and I followed after him.

…Did he wait for me because he thought I forgot? What's my presence gonna change, though? It's not like the Disciplinary Committee can't function without me...

Ah, why are you so difficult to figure out, Hibari Kyoya?!

We walked the remainder of the trip in silence, but I didn't mind. I wasn't sure how long I could keep up the act of nonchalance, he wasn't supposed to know that I had been awake during the entire exchange.

"You wear glasses," he said as we entered the school.

"Huh?" I blinked, and then snorted, amused. "Yeah, I do. I normally wear contacts, but I was too tired to put them on today."

"Hn." We continued to walk in silence, the atmosphere somewhat awkward. And then I noticed Hibari's arms twitching for his tonfas, and I just couldn't stop myself from bursting out in laughter. He looked at me with a stare that was both confused and annoyed. "What."

"S-sor… s-sorry!~" I grinned up at him. "I'm just not used to this side of you…! You're always trying to beat the crap out of me, after all…!"

His eyes narrowed, almost looking offended. "I don't fight injured animals."

That made me laugh even more, until a sharp pain emerged from my stomach, probably from laughing too hard. "S-stop making me laugh, Hibari..! I forgot I was sore and laughing isn't really helping-!"

"You're an idiot."

I had a blank look. "Eh?"

He sighed, and that's when he reached out and scooped me into his arms, bridal-style. "Don't forget. You owe me, Izanami."

My face flushed. "W-what?! No, put me down Hibari…! I literally paid you back, I kept you company, remember?! I mean, I was asleep most of the time a-anyway put me down please I can walk I just asked you to stop making me laugh-!"

He simply continued onwards. "I did."

"Hibari Kyoya…!"
