Chapter 8
I ended up wearing a bandage over my right eye since the inside attack on the Kairo Tribe. A an insight was told from two imprints perspectives. Charles and Veronica was a couple who went to Seattle but never came back. Charles can hide his scent. The now dead Veronica could make you blind. I had my own personal experience with her.
Just odd to see two imprints being on their sides. Obviously, they have their rules wrong. Rules that turned from a ban to a brand of traitors. Those two imprints ended up disappearing three days later after the attack and has not been seem since. That was weeks ago. The only good thing that came out of it was killing the most influential attacker of the two.
I pull open the fridge door to see barely any food. "Where is all of the food?" I ask grabbing the carton of milk. I check the date. Still fresh. I open the carton and drink out. "Are you drinking out of my carton?" Sam ask walking in the kitchen. I slowly take the carton from my mouth. He's wearing his police uniform. "I brought this...two days ago, Sam. It has my name on it." I say pointing to the bottom of the carton.
I try to walk past him when he holds his arm out. "Emily is coming back. You'll be going to live with Paul." He say. "So Emily is real?" I ask. "Emily is real. Her older sister gave birth five days ago. You'll go live with Paul." He say. "Sam. Paul want my cookies. What should I do?" I ask watching him walk past me and close the fridge door.
"Don't give it to him. How old are you, Mia?" He ask. "Sixteen years old. Shawn turns seventeen in three more days. His family is giving him a birthday party." I say walking over to the kitchen counter. I sadly place the carton on the kitchen counter. Paul walks up behind me. "You and her will be moving out of my house." Sam say. "Why you not wearing pants, Mia?" He ask.
"Cause it is two in the morning. I wanted a glass of milk. Sam caught me off guard. I'll just go." I say grabbing the carton and walking around him out of the kitchen. I head up the stairs and head back down the hall into my room. I close the door and sit the carton on the desk. I get back into bed and throw the blanket over me falling asleep.
I wake up this time to the loud noise of my bedroom door opening up. "What I hear about you walking around in underwear?" Marcus ask walking in. I groan taking the blanket off my face. He grabs the carton off my desk and smell it. Lincoln walks in. "Lincoln! Don't look at me." I say exposing my body. "It smells like you peed, Mia." He say.
"Sam said by eight." I casually say. The wolves laugh downstairs. I chuckle covering myself. "She's trifling but she's a good gi-" "I don't want her." He say. We laugh. Lincoln loves playing hard-to-get. "Let's go for a walk around the tribe." Marcus say sitting the carton and going out of the room. Lincoln shake his head following. "She didn't pee." I hear Marcus say going down the stairs.
I take the blanket off and take off my shirt off. I get off the bed and walk across the room to the dresser. I pull the top drawer out and grab out a yellow shirt. Paul walks in. "My house is one bedroom. You can sleep on the couch." He bluntly say. "I'm good, Paul. I'll ra-" "No choice." Sam say. "I feel that if I find a roommate then I ca...wait. Ain't nobody in the pac...nevermind. I'll take your house, Paul." I say closing the dresser. I put on my shirt noticing him watching me.
I smile opening up the bottom dresser and grabbing out a pair of jean shorts. Paul really do like me. He finally leave the doorway. I close the dresser and grab the carton off the desk before walking out. I walk down the hall and head down the stairs. The pack is talkative in the living room as ever. The TV is loud. Paul is still sitting in his spot.
"What's with the small yellow shirt?" Marcus asks me. The shirt is kind of small on me. "Don't tell Shawn that I stole Sophie's shirt." I say before drinking out of the carton. "That milk is seven hours old, Mia." Sam say folding the newspaper. "Who is Sophie?" Jacob asks. "She mean Sandra." Marcus say. "Keep the bugs from my butt, Sam." I say taking the carton from my mouth.
"Sixteen and seventeen. Shawn is seventeen in a few more days. How?" Marcus asks. "Cause your daddy got our mothers pregnant at the same time." "Then, you two will be the same age." "He's older than me tribal years. When he was born, he was one years old." I say walking past him into the kitchen. I toss the carton in the trash can.
"Do I have time for breakfast?" I ask opening up the top shelf. Sam usually cooks breakfast but he has nothing today. Maybe, I can have a bowl of cereal. "No. You heard from your mother?" Lincoln ask. "She went to Las Vegas. It's a lot of stories but I feel she did no wrong." I say closing the shelf door.
The tension that was coming off Marcus and the fact that Shawn's birthday is coming was gonna pull up some drama concerning my mouth. I knew it would start back up. I walk out to see the pack looking at Marcus. "Well, you're the child. If it was you then you'll want to press charges and seek justice." Sam say. "Yeah. I understand that. Emotions as a child makes you feel different. His parents was robbed of a child. That's the story." I say pulling a seat back from the dining table.
"The family is seeking justice against your mother for kidnapping, Mia." Lincoln say. "Just need to find her." Marcus say turning to face me. "Well, I have no clue where she went too. Jade and Dave have Alex. She left." I whisper playing with my hair. I did not want to have this conversation one bit.
"When did she leave?" Sam ask. "Two days after the big reveal. The reveal concerning Shawn being my cousin, Sam. Your daddy is the father. Uleyna. Remember?" "I know your middle name. I know you're half-African American like your siblings, Mia. I'll call her cellphone." He say getting up from the table. "Mom and her boyfriend is in Las Vegas celebrating their fifth anniversary together."
"Was that hard?" He ask sitting back down. "No. Weird speaking on the issue. Plus, I haven't told her about Shawn and the other family. Ours is ours. Theirs is theirs." I softly say. "Have your parents filed charges?" Embry ask Marcus. "I know they did. The only thing the family talks about." He say sounding like he's lying. I groan.
"It's been three months." Lincoln say. "It takes a hard time to believe that you have a missing daughter. Mom and dad...I don't know. I'll talk to the cops myself." He say shrugging. "For what? Obviously, it's a secret deal behind the kids' back. Why not drop it?" I seriously asks. "Cause my moth...maybe it should be dropped. Let's just go." He tells Lincoln walking past Sam and going out of the house. Lincoln shake his head following. "I'm going back to sleep." I say getting up and going back up the stairs. Just drop the issue.
I'm dancing in the living room to the car commercial melody on the living room TV when car doors is heard shutting. "Mia, the police." Jacob say looking out of the window. "Darn you, Marcus! That was crap was three hours ago!" I say walking over to the window. Sam walks down the stairs. I peek out of the window to see a Spanish and white detective walking around their car. Hey! I smile.
"Detecti-" "Sam, let me get the door! Might be one of my imprints." I say beating him to the front door. I check my breath and my feet. Neither are stinking. Sam moves me out of the way and opens the front door. "Cut the AC on." I whisper sitting down. "You feeling hot?" Jacob ask me. "No. It just that he got the front door closed." I say listening to him greet the two.
I lick my lips wondering about the possibilities that one of them might be my imprint. I'll have a detective as a soulmate. "Come in." Sam say holding the door open. Both men walk in and look directly at me. I smile looking into their eyes but slowly frown when I don't imprint. "Well, she looks like the father and twin brother." The Spanish detective say.
I turn to Jacob. "You do look like Shawn." He say watching me poke my eyeballs. Recharge them. The vampire might've gotten me. I turn back around to try again. Nope. I grin. "Do you know where your mother is at, Miss Grant?" The white detective asks me. "Call me Ms. Uley. Sam-" "Mia Uleyna Grant. Obviously, she has a history with my father to grab his last name for her daughter that she stole." Sam say.
"A sample DNA test will confirm if her and The Bradley family is related." The detective say taking out a swab packet. "Can I refuse without my mother's permission?" I ask smiling. "She's a joker. She's joking." Sam say. "You can refuse. We can place you in foster care being underage till we sort this issue out or you can take the test and stay with your friends." The Spanish detective say.
"I can take the test for you." I say blushing. "Mia, open your mouth." Jacob say. I open my mouth for him. The detective takes out the long Q-tip and swab my mouth. "Sam, introduce us." I softly say crossing my legs. He don't. "DNA is for legal proposes. We can sa-" I laugh looking at Paul. He turns his attention back to the TV.
"We can say that you hold physical features related to the Bradley Family. Mostly, the father and your fraternal twin brother." The white detective say. "Photos show that the mother was a big size when pregnant. She could've been carrying twins. She went into labor early. Gave birth. Memory is hazy. Memory is blank." The Spanish detective explain.
I look around completely stunned. "She needed realization. Her mother might be a baby snatcher." Sam say. "Or plotted to steal the baby. Could never find out where she lived." The other detective say. "She kept switching houses." Wow, Mom. "We talked to her one time which was two weeks after Mia came to live with me. She was still living in her old house."
"It happens when you're avoiding the law. We'll be back to see if you're a match. If you are then you'll be moved to live with your biological family, Miss Grant." He say. "I understand." I say voice shaking. "Have a good day." He say leaving out. The wolves besides Paul return sentiments. Sam follows behind them. I look at Jacob. "You think we're a match?" I ask. "I'm not answering that. Your mother's going to jail." He say watching TV. She is. Mom, you're going to jail.
"DNA tests revealed that you're the twin sister of Shawn Bradley, Miss Grant." Det. Gomez say holding out an envelope to me. I'm a little bit of loss for words over this issue. It's really heart wrenching. "You left two minutes ago, Detective." I say taking the envelope. I'm even sitting in the same spot. He has to has to be a magical being. "You fell asleep on the couch. You been sleep for three hours." Jared say. They laugh.
"Should I look? I'm unsure." I tell Sam. "Do you want to know the truth?" He ask. "Her parents want to respect her wishes but would like to get to know her." Det. Gomez say. "Three months?" I ask him. "Miscommunications. One brother lives in another house. The other barely speaks. Parents thought you left with your mother."
I chuckle. I can't help but laugh. "Thanks again, Robert." Jared say. "No problem. Just doing a simple job." "I know this might be a hard question to hard cause you three are all coworkers." I say standing up off the couch. "I'll answer to the best of my abilities, Mia." He say. "Good. Good. Kind of personal." I say walking up to him. "Yes, Mia."
"Is there a homeless I can squ-" "Thanks for coming, Robert." Sam say. "Any type of shelter? Just let me know." I say walking back to the couch and sitting down. "No need to be nervous, Mia." Jared say. "My mother did not steal me. It will be cleared up once they hear her side of the story." I strongly say. My mother is not a baby thief.
"And, when do she come back to Las Vegas?" Det. Gomez ask taking out a notepad and pen from his pants pocket. "Three days." Jared say. "Three days. Can I have her phone number? Is that okay or are we gonna have a problem?" He ask me. "No problem." I say holding up gang signs. I repeat the phone number for him. He looks at Sam. "It's real." He say. "One more time, Mia." I repeat the number again.
"Stop being a clown, Mia." Embry say. "I'm trying. What am I gonna do though? Mother's Day is next month. My birthday is next month. Very awkward. My mom is my mom but I'll talk to Marcus's family. Should I wear a dress?" I ask unsure. "Just be yourself. Don't be too awkward." Jared say. I'll try my best. "Well, take both statements then do an investigation into Forks Hospital." Det. Gomez tells us.
I thank him. "I'll walk you out." Sam say walking across the living room. "I'll start dinner. Fried vegetables topped with...something." I say getting up and going across the dining room into the kitchen. Maybe, cooking will take my mind off the fact that it has been proven that I am actually blood related to the Bradley Family.
