Buck thought that maybe the universe didn't like him. He groaned as he tried to free his leg. The same leg that got crushed by a firetruck, mind,
Nearly everything around him was on fire. Normally not a problem, he was a firefighter. But right now, he was kind of stuck! The team had started to warm back up to him. He didn't want to be put back to square one because he got hurt with the same leg.
"Sound off" Bobby's voice came through the radio.
"Chimney and Hen all clear" Chims voice came through.
"Diaz, all clear, coming out now southeast entrance" Eddie said as he made his final trek. Buck struggled harder to free himself as two other people, from 221 came through.
"Buck, sound off" Bobby orders. The fire was getting out of hand, he needed his men out.
"Hey Cap" Bucks voice rang. There was something there.
"Buck, where are you?" Bobby asks, looking at the rest of his team forming around him.
"Bobby" the defeat in Bucks voice.
"Tell me where you are Buck, that's an order"
Buck slams his fist on the ground. He knows the building is unstable, knows that he can't ask his team to come save him but dammit! He didn't want to die yet!
"Buck!" Bobby's voice brought him back.
"Pinned down by my right leg, nothing broke, just stuck under some wreckage that collapsed on me. 3rd floor, north corner...Bobby, this whole things about to go...just-" Bobby cut Buck off, he was not saying goodbye.
"Don't worry Buck, we're on our way up. You just hang tight.
"Alright, Chimney, you take charge right now. None of you enter that building. It is going to give." Bobby orders.
"No way in hell Cap" Eddie step up, ready to go back up.
"Yeah, we're going with you." Chimney states. Hen crossing crossing her arms, daring any objection.
"Captain Nash, 221, we're here to back you up. Whatever you need" the captain from the neighboring fire station came up. Bobby nods his head.
"I need you to keep the fire at bay on this north side. I got man up there. We're going to go get him but the building is about to go. " Bobby informs. The Captain of the 221 nods her head.
"Man down. North side, get that water pumping there. 118 providing immediate rescue attempt of man down. All coms switch to channel 23." The new Captain states. The 221 watches as 118 have a moment before they grab their gear and reenter the unstable building. Some of her men glanced at each other, thinking that this was going to be the last time they saw the brave souls of 118.
"Get that water going!" Jessica William's yells.
"Buck, come in" Bobby's voice echoes every single radio.
"Cap" the wheezing voice of the downed firefighter came through.
"How you doing Buck" Bobby asks, they cleared the 1st floor and were making their way to the 2nd. And you better believe that they were double timing it.
"Hot and steamy Cap, and not even the good kind" Buck says.
"Buck I swear to God" Hen warned. Buck chuckles.
"...may have hit my head" Buck says, he re-check's over himself.
"Got a few lacerations that are minor. I worked on some of the wreckage on my leg, but there's a heavy beam that I can't budge" Buck admits.
"Don't worry about it Buck, we're almost to you"
"Sorry Cap" Buck says.
"Not a big deal, kid"
"Not just for this...but for everything. I really didn't...I just..." Buck trails off.
"He might have a concussion" Chimney says. They all tried to ignore the defeat in Bucks voice.
" listen Buck, all families have their fights. We'll get through this. We got some more healing to do but trust me kid, I still have a lot left to teach you. We've only got down the breakfast foods. Next is lunch and then dinner." Bobby says. Buck swears he's not crying.
"Yeah, I'd like that cap" Buck replies.
"118, be advised, that buildings only got minutes left" Jessica warns.
"221, understood" Bobby came back through.
"Bobby"
"Shut up Buck" Eddie cut off his best friend.
"Coming up your floor now, Buck, just hang on, we're almost to you" Bobby informs.
221 had to listen to the radio silence that followed as 118
The 118 listened to radio silence as the 118 were no doubt calling to their fallen comrade.
"BUCK!?" They all called.
"Here!" Buck moved his arm, waving it. Carefully his team made their way to him.
"Hey, kid" Bobby says.
"Eddie. Grab that side" Bobby orders, grabbing part of a beam that pinned his guy. Eddie grabbed the other side and they struggled to move it but they managed to at least leverage it over. Chimney and Hen looked over Buck to make sure he was good.
"No time. We need to move" Bobby orders.
"Sorry buddy, this is gonna hurt" Chimney says.
"Aaaarrrgghh" Buck gasped out a scream. His leg was fucked again.
"Just a regular sprained ankle...and probable bone contusion" Chimney explains.
"CAPTIAN NASH to 221" Bobby calls into his radio.
"Move move move!" Bobby yells at his team. Bobby and Eddie take ahold of Buck and are carrying him by his shoulders, practically running their way out.
"221 to Cpt Nash"
"221, we're making our way out now." Bobby informs.
"Copy 118, we're here waiting for you. We'll keep it cool''"
On the ground, captain of the 221 stood on top of her ladder truck. Directing her men. She ignored the news crews that came or the people of the neighborhood coming g to be a spectacle.
"118 is making their way down now. Keep it cool for them!" Jessica yells.
"You got it Cap!"
"Come on 118" Jessica mumbles to herself in worry. The building was going to go anytime now. The fire was beyond the structure now. It had been suicide just going back in...but she would have done the same for any one of her guys.
"This way is blocked, Cap" Chimney says.
"Go right" Buck pipes up.
"Thays straight Into fire" Hen declares. Bobby hadn't hesitated, he listened to Buck and he ducked right, Eddie pivoting too.
"What's this" Chimney asks.
"Hidden passage made out of concrete. Built to hide during the threat of shelling during ww1" Buck responds.
"About time that trivia of yours came in handy" Eddie jokes.
221 was forced to watch as the building structure finally gave. Jessica swallowed the bile that rose in her throat.
"118, do you copy" after a minute all she got was static. Her own team looked ready to do something, anything, to try to help.
"118 do you copy" a hush fell over the crowd that had gathered.
"221, 118 copy. Building collapsed right in top of us. There was a side of the building that was pure concrete that saved us. We're hammering through the wall to get out. " Bobby Nash's voice came through the radio, heard by all by how silent it was despite the fire.
"118, 221 copy, you gave us all a scare. Where are you, I'll have my boys help get you out" Jessica sighs in relief.
"South east corner of the building. We''re low on oxygen" Bobby warns. Immediately her guys were running over to the directed area. Jessica herself jumped off and started over as well. She wasn't aware of the news crews following their every move.
With the combined effort or two firehouse teams, a hole was made just big enough to squeeze 118 out.
"Looks like that was a whole in one " Buck rasp, earning chuckles from everyone. The mood grew serious and everyone took turns clasping hands or patting shoulders. They were a brotherhood, and they nearly lost some of them.
"Buck, to the hospital, let's go" Bobby says, ignoring the groan that came from his youngest member.
"But cap, Chim said it's just a sprain" Buck complained.
Bobby gave Buck a look and Buck wisely started forward with a
"Going, cap"
Jessica and Bobby gave each other a nod of respect, before they wrapped up the fire for the next few hours. The teams going back to work.
Bobby had been cooking lunch for everyone when Maddie came in. Buck, who had been living in the fire station at this point, immediately choked on water. Bobby sighs. Buck didn't tell his sister and she must have found out by the news replaying every moment of what happened. He himself had already been chewed out by the chief only to receive a teary eyed, "you did good, Bobby" right after. Never mind Athena...
"EVAN BUCKLEY!" Buck pales.
"Bobby, you remember when you said that if we EVER needed help that all we had to do was say so?" Buck asks, coming to stand up, without his crutches.
"Uh yeah but I don't this this counts" Bobby amused. Buck hobble's over behind him, gripping Bobby in front of him like he was a shield.
"HELP!" Buck yells as Maddie came to stand in front of them, looking ready to actually break something.
"Sorry Buck, this all you"
