Chapter 14
Jacob seemed to battle his own emotions and feelings over Bella breaking his heart in choosing Edward and accepting his engagement ring. You can see the dull look in his eyes every single place that he went. He was moping continuously throughout the house. His father tried to talk to him. His sister tried. His friends tried. The pack tried.
His demons and pain was too much to bare cause he ended up leaving La Push. I was not around when the incident but I heard when I showed up at Sam's house. He's a teenage boy. He's hurt. Just kind of weird for him to leave during this time knowing that we're on a verge of a battle with Victoria at the end of the year. Snow. That's what Alice sees in her vision. It sucks seeing a pack member hurt but we have to move on with our duty to protect. A whole month ended up passing and Jacob was still nowhere to be found.
"Life goes on." I tell myself toting the three homemade Apple pies in the clear containers heading for Sam's backyard. Emily decided to throw him a twenty-fourth birthday today and I have not only been dwelling into teas but also cooking. It has become an obsession of mine. I love to cook.
Things has really changed since Jacob has left. His father moved into Sue's house and she has been taken care of him leaving me the only one to occupy his house and I've changed their house to accommodate myself such as having a Tea Shelf on the side of my house that whole homemade teas and natural flavored fresh water.
I come up to Sam's backyard carefully stepping over the big tree branch. Who put that there? It won't there yesterday. Oh, wow. I better hurry up. I pick up speed heading into the backyard and looking around see just my friends lounging either at tables or on the grass.
I don't see no Jacob. I head over to the food table where the imprints are at talking. "I brought apple pies. Right out of the kitchen." I say placing the containers on the table. "You really been turning my daddy's house into yours." Rachel say taking the top off. "That smells amazing." Kim say. "Thank you. What you mean?" I ask Rachel.
I'm not comprehending what's the issue. I live in that house. I help pay the bills. "Ladies, let's not start. Today is Sam's day." Emily say glancing at Rachel. Sam place the top on his grill and make his way over to us. Uh-oh. He coming for me. "Just think she's taking over my dad's house. I brought him these containers." He say placing the top back on.
"Well, they were there. Sam said that he loves apple pies so I thought it was a good idea to bring him his favorites. Three." I say pointing them out. "Thank you, Mia." Emily say. "No problem, Emily." I say watching Sam walk up. "Containers?" He ask Rachel. They laugh. "The principle, Sam. Is she or is she not?" She asks.
"She has changed a lot of things around since Billy moved out and Jacob has left. What did you do, Mia?" He ask. "Brought more food. I brought dishes. The Xbox went to Quil's house. The Tea Shelf. Some jars. I put a carpet in front of the bathroom door. That's about it." I say placing my hands on my hips. That's all I can think of.
"Also the tea jars around the house." Rachel say being petty. That reminds me. "Well, those are still there but the 11 jars on the Tea Shelf were stolen." I say shrugging. "Did you report to the police?" Emily ask me. "It's okay. Just tea jars. At least they ain't steal the ones that Jacob made. God rest his soul." I say praying for him.
"Did you pick up a scent?" Jared ask walking over. "It had rain. It was five days ago. So it was just mud and dirt all around the house. I didn't think someone would go around the house to steal jars of tea. Its just tea. Not that big of a deal." I say shrugging. "Tell me next time and I'll pick up on the scent." Sam say walking back to the grill.
"Thanks, Sam. Hey, Sam!" I call out walking over to him. He sigh turning to face me. "Is Det. Gomez coming or is this a private thing?" "Private." He say. "Well, I have to patrol but happy birthday. As much as I'm that troubled child in the family, you really helped me out in my life especially when you got me out of jail and took me in. You really are my big brother!"
I wrap my arms around his waist giving him a hug. "Okay." He say. I grin letting him go. "Sam, I'mma have to skip on your party. Why? I have to patrol. Happy Birthday!" I excitedly say running back into the forest.
Later that night...
I walk through the forest toting two wrapped plates in my hand and house keys in the other heading home. I patrolled for two more hours after picking up an odd scent heading North through the mountains. Me, Embry, and Jared followed the trial till it disappeared into the water. So it's safe to see a vampire is roaming the mountains.
I come up to the backyard hearing the shower running. The scent of Jacob hits my nose. I smile heading across the yard to the backdoor. I open the door wondering if the pack knows that he's home. I'm pretty sure they do if they picked up his scent during patrolling. I sit the plates and keys on the counter and close the door. I lock the lock hearing him turn the shower head in the shower.
I take my jacket off and toss it on the couch. Maybe, I can talk to him. I head down the hall and stand in front of the bathroom door. "I brought food back from Sam's birthday party." I say hearing him turn the shower off. The door opens up a few minutes later to him. His body is drenched in water. His lower body is covered in a light blue waist.
You can see the many emotions in his eyes. "Come here." I say holding out my arms. He steps forward and give me a hug. I hug him back. He sniff my neck. That's very new. "How you been?" I ask wrapping my arms around my neck. The front door opens to Sam. "I'm not staying, Sam." He say coming off me. "Why don't I leave you all alone to talk?" I ask going out of the hallway.
I head into the kitchen and place the plates in the fridge before going out of the backdoor. It sounds like they need to have a men talk. I lick my lips looking at my empty Tea Shelf. Who the heck steal tea? I rub on my face frustrated heading into the backyard when a howl rings throughout the night sky. I phase running across the yard and head into the forest.
"It's the red head." Quil say. "We're chasing her North. She's on the Cullen's Territory near the Ravine." Seth adds. It don't take a mighty long time for others to phase and for us to cross the forest heading for the creek. "I want her head." Sam orders. We mutually let out growls. My paws hit the dirt like I'm running on clouds.
I am the second fastest in the pack only second to Leah or we're equally matched. I have no clue. Leah comes to from West. We collide running on the rock infused clicks letting snarls and growls. We're too big on the slim cliff. "One off." Sam orders. I leapt off the cliff and run on the lower level near the water. We run side by side.
"She'll get away!" A woman's voice shout in the distance on the East. Must be getting close. A pale woman skin jump across the left cliff and land on the right. That's her! Giant boulders sits 100 feet in the ahead in the water. She'll jump! Me and Leah pick up speed. I lean my head down gaining speed running in the water aiming for the boulders. "Leah!" "Mia!."
Victoria comes into view running through the trees. The water splash against my fur as the boulders comes 50 feet. The trees and Leah's light grey fur becomes nothing but blur as I come upon the boulders. I run off the first and second boulder. When Victoria jumps, I jump off the third boulder mouth wide open.
She seems to twist her body turning but I bite her right hand. BOOM! The thundering sound seems to shake the forest. "Leah!" I tightly hold onto her hand as we roll down the water at a speed. Our bodies contort as she tries wrestles to be free but I keep a tight grip. Our bodies contort as flow down the ravine heading for the waterfall.
It seems as though she starts to come out of her clothes. She wraps her left arm around my waist. "Rip her hand off." Sam orders. I rip her hand off. She let out a blood curling screech grabbing my fur and throwing me hard across the forest. I fly through the tree trunks breaking every single trunk till I come to a stop hitting the final one feeling a sharp stinging pain erupts through my back.
I whimper falling forward and landing on my stomach having phased back. Oh my back! I groan getting up off the ground and feeling around my back. A thick trunk is sticking out of my back. At least it didn't go through my stomach.
I start my trek walking very slowly but painful using the broken trees as my lead till my vision starts to fade me. My body seems like a feather. I gargle collapsing on the ground hearing paws heading for my direction. Too late. It seems darkness has won.
