Chapter 18

I'm in wolf form sniffing around the ground for the female vampire's scent. I've been trailing the scent since she last stepped foot on the ground. "Lost her?" Sam ask. "She's in this area. Somethin-" Crack. I quickly turn behind me to see Paul and Embry walking up.

"Scared me." "You're a wolf. You shouldn't be getting scared." Sam say. "I am, Sam. Odd to be back in the The feeling is odd but she's in this area." "The trees." Embry say. "Nobody is in the trees." Paul say circling me.

"My fault?" Is he blaming me? "I think he is. This vampire has been going in and out of these tribes for the last two weeks. What have you supplied to this hunt, Mia?" Sam ask. "The tree, Sam. Her scent ends with this. The tree is dented into the ground. It's like she made herself heavy."

"Good theory. Coated her scent with her weight." "You gotta be real heavy." Jared say. "The tree is dented into the dirt but she's not up there." Embry say looking up at the tree. "She's not on the East." Jacob say running up with Jared behind him.

"Is it an illusion over the tree? Should we take it down?" I ask. It's an idea. "No. The scent is three days old." Jared say. "So what is this?" I ask confused. "A test." Sam say jumping over a lodge. "Sam, did I fail?" I ask whining.

"You didn't. If the scent is fres-" "She's already gone. She backtracks if she makes her skin heavy." Jacob say. "If you are heavy then you gotta walk slow, right?" "Or not. We know what we're looking for." Sam say walking pass Paul.

"Should we leave our closet doors open? I can't help but wonder if she's testing her abilities especially if you're going around the tribes and is not attacking people. That ability gotta have a downsize, right."

I understand what she's saying." Jared say. "So where is the footprints?" Embry ask. "If she is heavy then she'll leave footprints on the ground." "Heavy ones." Sam say. "Unless she is stepping on leaves, Sam." "Mia, that's enough for today." He say. "Yes, Sam." "Go home. Shower. Take a nap." "Yes, Sam." I say running off.

Are you going to talk behind my back? "Walk home, Mia." I phase back and start walking. I cross my arms annoyed. I don't know why I gotta walk home naked. Paul runs up besides me. "Thanks, Paul." I say grabbing his fur and climbing right on his back. I hold his fur as he continues to walk. Paul, you're nice.

Instead of him taking me back home, he takes me straight to his house. He lets me down and I get off him. He phases back. "Why bring me here?" I ask. He walk passes me. I grab his arm. He stops walking. It's only been 16 days since I started back phasing. It was hard to get back into the mood but I was able to manage it.

"I don't know what's going on with you and Rachel. I'm told to mind my business which I do but I really do miss you." I shrug. "I mean I still think about that one time and going back to patrol with you have been cool." I let his arm go. "That's all I wanted to say." He stands in front of me and start walking. I take steps back till my back hits the tree.

Does he wants sex. He wraps his arm around my waist and sniff my neck. I smile wrapping my arms around his head. He is such a cuddle bear. He lets me go and walk off heading across his backyard. I follow behind him smiling at his butt. He is so bare and he don't even care.

We go inside of his house and I watch him head straight into his bedroom and closes the door. I look at the clock on the stove. 11:29am. Alright. It is still early in the morning. I walk into his living room and take a seat on the couch. I grab the remote off the small oval stand next to the couch. His cellphone is there. Should I look through it?

Hell naw! I shake my head turning the TV on. Paul would kill me and bury my body. His bedroom door opens up and walks out toting a shirt. I get up and he tosses it right in my face. I take it off my face. He walks into the kitchen. He's wearing jean shorts. "Not like you haven't seen it, Paul." I say putting on the shirt.

I'm telling the truth. He has seen me naked plenty of time. I walk down the hall and open up his closet door. "Just in case Statue Vamp is in there. Leave it open." I walks back into the living room. He opens up a bottle of coke. I sit back on the couch and go back to flipping the channels.

After about ten minutes, he heads down the hall and into his bedroom. He slams the door behind him. Oh, wow. Maybe, he's mad over how his life is possibly is. I can't say cause I don't know what's going on. I look at the bedroom door. I shouldn't be selfish. I get up from my seat and walk down the hall till I reach his door.

I open the door to see him sitting on the bed. He looks in my face. "I'm sorry that you're in this position." I say walking over to his side. "I'm here for you." I try to give him a hug but he pushes me back against the wall. My jaw drops in shock. I guess he don't want a hug. I compose myself even though I am embarrassed.

I walk out of his room and close the door behind me. I can't believe he did that. I hear him getting off his bed. I open the door. He walks over to me. "Paul, what do you want?" I ask walking over to him. He grabs my arm and throw me on the bed. Alright. He unbuttons his shorts. I grin when he looks in my face. What?

He stands there. "Oh." I say sitting up. I don't mind helping him. I grab his zipper and unzip his shorts. I pull them down to his feet and stand back up. I take off my shirt and climb on the bed. I peck his lips then I kiss his cheeks. I want some Paul and he damn not going to make me work for it. I pull the blanket back and lay right down. I pat next to me. He steps out of his jean shorts and walk to the bedroom door. He closes it. I smile.

A powerful rainstorm washed over Forks and the tribes the next day. It was a different type of rain due it being mixed with the high rain. The weather can be unexpected it.

"Next month." Sam announces to all in his living room. "The fight with Victoria's army is next month." Jared say. I thought that is what he was talking about. "The pups will stay behind and patrol the tribe." Sam look at me. "Mia, I'm leaving you in charge!" "Yes!" I happily shout.

"How can she be in charge when we share the same mind?" Embry ask. Him and Jared just look at him. I try to high five Quil but he shakes his head. "Sam, why can't I be in the fight?" I ask putting my hand down.

"Cause you're not experienced, Mia." He say. The power in the house goes out. Uh-oh. "Sam, you made it seem like your house was on generators." I say looking out of the window. The rain is not playing around. CLACK! I cover my ears. The thunder is too loud. My ears are hurting. "That was loud." Embry say.

"It was loud." Jared say. "Is the house on generators?" Quil ask. "My house is not run by generators. I have one in the shed." He say looking at Jacob. "I'll go get it." He say getting up from the couch. "I'll go with you." I say getting up myself. "I don't need your help, Mia." He say walking across the living room.

I sit back down. "So when is she going to stop sleeping with my boyfriend?" Rachel ask Sam. "What you talking about?" Her brother ask looking at her. "He came onto me, Sam. I ain't know what was going on and damn not going to be painted as that type of female." I snidely say.

"You shouldn't be in it anyway." Jared say looking at Paul. "Sam told that I can." "When?" Sam ask. "When I first phased, Sam. Paul wants me and Rachel." I say crossing my arms. "Undecided." He has a nerve to say. Rachel looks at him shocked. "Undecided?" Quil shakes his head.

"What did you tell me?" Sam ask walking over to him. "Why are you in that, Mia?" Embry ask me. "Cause Sam placed me as a substitute. Now I'm too deep in. Paul is also. Rachel is going to have share. When I imprint, I'll share my imprint with her. We can have a square going on." I say crossing my legs. Jacob looks at Sam.

"My cousin." I shake my head. This man is terrible. "Is she allowed to have an imprint?" Jared ask him. "Her imprint cannot be denied from our pack, Jared." He say. "Just asking. It seems that I was left out of the loop when it came to you and Paul." "I could not be around my mother cause I had to stay close to him while he was freaking Leah on Thursdays." I say pointing to Paul.

"Maybe, we should go." Embry say. "You need to stay. The pack needs to hear how the Alpha made a critically bad choice when it came to his jackass cousin." Jared coldly say. "So he gets to treat Mia like trash?" Jacob ask Sam. "No." He coldly say looking at Jared.

"Just telling it how it is." He say. "So how long will this go on?" Jacob ask. "Till the day that I die." Rachel angrily say. I shrug. I ain't got no words for the situation. It never should've been created. Sam did what he wanted to do. He robbed me of so much when it came to my mother. This is why I don't even sneak out at night. I'm not risking nothing to destroy what I am slowly building up for my mother.

"I'm not going to excuse my behavior. I want what is best for my cousin." Sam say looking around at us. "At the expense of Mia? Did you ask for her opinion or did you throw he-" "I do not care no more. I'm more for fixing my relationship with my mother. Sam do not like you, Rachel."

"I get that." She say in a low voice. "So what now?" Jacob ask Sam. "The decision is Paul's." "I'm staying with my imprint, Sam." He say. "So what does this mean for Mia?" Jared ask him. "She has to respect their relationship as they work through their troubles, Jared." "Mia is not the problem. Paul is."

"Both are too blame." Rachel say. "No, you and Michael are too blame. Remember, you cheated." I snidely say. "Mia, just stay out of it." Embry say. "Just not going to have he-" "Tell her to mind her business." Paul say. "Keep it in your pants, Paul. Keep it in!" I shout.

Sam looks at the couple. "The meeting is over. Everybody, go home." Jared say. All but the couples gets up from the couch. "The generator?" Jacob ask. "Leave it." Sam say walking over to the window. "Alright." We all leave out of the front door and walk across the front yard. The rain falls down hard.

I need to talk to Jacob. I pick up speed and grab his arm. He turns around and pushes me hard into the mud. "Jacob." "She's no friend of mine when it comes to my sister, Embry." Quil helps me up. "It is okay. I deserve that." I say taking off the muddy jacket.

He walks off heading for the forest. "Embry." "I think you could've respected Rachel and her being the imprint. Let's go, Quil." He say. Quil shrug following behind him. I turn around to see Sam and Jared standing on the front porch. He's right. I could've respected her. I run towards the backyard and phase. I stop dead in my track picking up a scent.

"Statue Vamp?" Seth ask. "Yeah. It's over the backyard." I say following the trail around the house and up onto the front step. "Nobody been in the closet." Jared say from inside of the house. I sniff the air and release a howl before running fast across the street. She's around.
