Prologue

—Land of Fire—

Konohagakure no Sato

"The age of Shinobi is over." He said.

Two weapons clashed, the momentum carried on both forcing their users to separate a considerable distance from each other. The prior contact of steel against steel creating sparks.

A couple of figures are standing over the Hokage Monument. More precisely in the Nanadaime Hokage's sculpted face, destroyed in half.

The faces of all the great leaders that the Village Hidden in the Leaves have got during all his years of existence were carved in here. From the first Hokage Hashirama Senju all the way to the current one that was the Nanadaime Hokage. The faces of these influential political figures were sadly destroyed. An affront to the heroes and the actions they performed for the greater good.

They were not the only thing destroyed in this hidden village since the whole city was obliterated too.

The Old Konoha City below the Monument was in shambles, just as the New Konoha District in the flat plateau above it was smoking in flames. Buildings in both fractions were crumbling down. It was quite a predicament on both sides.

The reason that the Village Hidden in the Leaves was in this miserable state was because of the two men we already spoke of before.

The men guilty of the current state of the Hidden Leaf were staring at each other. Two pairs of feet laced with Chakra sticking into the earth wall that comprised the Hokage Mountain.

One of them being a man with mohawk dark hair donned at the end with a ponytail, a horn protruding from his left forehead, and going all around his head into his right nape side.

Strange symbols marred his entire shape, from his hand palms to his right eye. The man is wearing black robes, white pants, and boots. An old-style armored chest plate secured with cords on his torso. A strange symbol of three grey rhombuses, each one of them with a single black stripe. The emblem was positioned on the center of the chest plate. The man had on his right hand a Bō.

'Perhaps a Clan Symbol...' The other crouched individual thought while looking at the symbol in the first man's chest. A sword on both his hand but the weapon was upside down. The tip of the lethal weapon embedded in the earth.

This other person was a blond-haired teenager with two marks on both sides of his cheeks. A scar parting from his right eyebrow to his cheek. The same strange symbols as the other man on the right side of his body. The teen wore a black jacket with red stripes and black pants. On his back is a black cape that moves with the wind gale. Shinobi sandals on his feet.

The teenager leaned his head up to look a the man before him. "I would have never thought that you could be this strong, Timeless One." He said with dreadful realization.

"I will be the one sending you to meet the Seventh, Boruto..." The man told in a calm tone but from a standpoint, he was scrutinizing him. Trying to think about what his adversary would do.

Boruto closed his eyes and sighed. "Did things really had to turn out this way?" The Uzumaki boy wished there could be another way, but sadly there was no other choice.

"Yes..." The man raised his right hand to his chest level and clenched it into a fist, his other free limb grasping his primary weapon. "The age of Shinobi is over." The mark in his hand glowed red all the way into his eyebrows and face.

"Still..." The Uzumaki reached for something in his pouch. The mysterious man narrowed his eyes at the movement, waiting for an assault on his form.

Boruto reached for his Hitai-ate and secured it on his forehead with his eyes shut for some seconds. The symbol of Konoha slashed on the relatively rusty black headband. "I am a Shinobi." He performed the half-ram seal with a hand. His body marks glowing blue all the way into his eyes.

He opened his eyes again. The right eye revealing a dōjutsu.

After that action, both figures raced against each other and clashed. Iron Bō meeting a Steel Wakizashi. The kinetic force and Chakra channeled behind the attacks forcing them to jump back to their earlier positions.

Boruto raised his sword at an angle that covered his body from any probable onslaught. "Why do you want to destroy our culture?!" The blond-haired teen asked. His voice demanding an explanation.

The man just glared at him. His stance slightly shifting into a more comfortable one for fighting. The teenager grew impatient and asked another question.

"What do you gain from all this?" He gestured to everything around them in particular with his left hand. To the havoc they just made.

The man's voice finally made itself known. "Shinobi has been the cause of pain and suffering for over eleven centuries." He looked straight at Boruto. The teenager gripped his sword tighter.

The man continued unfazed by the slight movement of his enemy. "Devastating wars will continue to be fought in the future. Conflicts will continue to exist because of the difference in ideas..." He pointed a finger at the Uzumaki boy.

"... and as long as Chakra is around, there will always prevail the risk that the Earth can be completely annihilated by you, humans." Boruto sneered at him and his little monologue.

The man resumed. "I am doing all of you a favor. Why do you fail to see this?" The man shakes his head in disappointment. Simple minds can only understand simple things.

Boruto barked at such an idea. "How do you know this?!" The man stared at him.

"How do you expect us to return to a way of living that you have never seen before?!" Boruto was enraged. This man talked like if he had already lived a thousand years.

A smirk crossed the face of the strange man, the ignorance of this kid amusing him to no end.

"That is where you are wrong, young Boruto." Jigen decided to divulge some of his thoughts and information to the teen. "Living without Chakra is actually very possible..." Boruto just huffed. Like if he would believe that.

"And the reason I am so sure of it is..." The horned man paused, suspense rising in the air.

"... because I was there when it all began." Boruto confused eyes met his white eyes. Byakugan white.

Boruto repeated in a tone that demanded additional clarification. "When all began?" He just looked at him like a loony, his brows furrowing.

"Yes, when Chakra was brought first into the world..." Boruto felt himself stiffen at the comeback. His eyes widening like saucers and his mouth slightly opening.

'It can't be true...' The Uzumaki refused to believe that. It was inconceivable but the eyes of the man did not lie. The sheer age in the eyes of the horned man flicker for a second and Boruto managed to get a glimpse of it.

The man didn't let the boy process the information and proceeded to speak in a low tone. "Now let me ask you a question of my own..." His stance changed to one that screamed offensive.

"... will you resist change?" Silence addressed the question.

Boruto allowed his body to answer the man and they clashed once more. The sounds of their fighting echoing through the First Shinobi Village in the history of the Elemental Nations.

Smoke and fire being the only things witnessing the titanic battle that would define the age of Shinobi. For good or bad.

However, the story we will tell begins several centuries back to a time where Shinobi and Chakra didn't exist. An age of conflict among humans. Long before everything known to the world.

This is the story of Jigen.

The Eien no Shinobi.
