PaopuGirl: U r latelatelatelatelatelatelate!
Hotel4Hearts: Not helping! Mom forget 2 wake me up!
PaopuGirl: Or did u just hit snooze 1 too many times?
SilverLining: Was your mom sleeping late again?
Hotel4Hearts: Yeah, she invited more people over yesterday until like midnight
PaopuGirl: Loool! Bet u slept like a baby with them partying, huh?
Hotel4Hearts: UGH! NO, AND I STILL HATE THE CONTACT NAME U GAVE ME, KAIRI!
PaopuGirl: Chillax. You have people over every other night, your house is basically a mini hotel.
SilverLining: I hate my contact name too.
PaopuGirl: Would you rather me change it to something boring?
SilverLining: Yes.
PaopuGirl: Then I'm keeping it the way it is.
Hotel4Hearts: My stop's nearly here! See you guys in class, ok?
PaopuGirl: Yep!
SilverLining: Sure.
The moment the bus doors opened, Sora shot off towards the school grounds at what was probably the speed of light, scrambling to get to his class at a decent time. He wasn't normally late- he avoided being in that position due to the fact that whenever someone walked in late, the entire class stared at them as if they'd murdered someone.
A few people dotted the front of the school, chatting and clearly not caring that the bell had rung a minute ago. Sora sprinted past them, grateful that his homeroom was on the first floor and near the entrance. Skidding to a stop in front of the desired place (the Art class was his homeroom), he burst through the door and plunked himself in his seat beside Kairi.
Some people snickered at him. The teacher only smiled in a pleased way and looked a little impressed- she was acquainted with Sora's mom and was most likely aware of the late night gathering she'd hosted. Sora took out his books, rubbing his head bashfully.
Kairi shot him a knowing grin. Beside the window in the row behind him, Riku snorted amusedly, tapping his pencil against the desk he sat at.
'Close call.' He thought, his shoulder slumping as he realized how tired he was. He glanced at the clock and was relieved to see he'd come on time. Once the bell rang, students only had two minutes to get to class. He's sat down right before those two minutes were up.
"Alright, class!" The teacher called, "Settle down! Today we were going to be starting the portrait project we talked about during Advisory yesterday, seeing as the year is over in June..."
She waited patiently for the grumbles and complaints to settle down.
"...But instead I came up with a better idea."
The class perked up. She laughed, then said, "At the end of the year, you will turn in a drawing of something that happened to you in real life. It doesn't matter if you think you're bad at art and can only draw stick figures. It just has to be clear what is going on in the picture, and real. You will describe what is going on in your drawing on a separate piece of paper, either in pencil or by printing it out. No less than two pages.
"And I don't want any cheating for the paper. No fifty-size font or anything like that. You are bring graded for the creativity of your story, and for how you explain it. If you write more than four pages, and/or take the time to make your drawing a beautifully colored portrait, you get extra credit. Wakka, Tidus, could you two pass out the rubrics to everyone?"
Sora blinked, and zoned out. It sounded hard. Better than the portrait project, but still hard. What would he write about? 'Maybe how my mom nearly made me late for school today,' his mind grumbled.
"Now," the teacher chirped when all of the paper had been passed out, "Take your notebooks, update your Table Of Contents with the title 'Final Project Ideas', and then go to your closest available page and start jotting down or drawing ideas. I've noticed that most of you work better with other people, so I'll let you talk to your friends in order to get your memory going after five minutes of quiet work time.
"If you don't want to talk with anyone, you can keep brainstorming by yourself. No off-topic conversations, okay? We'll do that until it's time for your first period. Begin!"
Sora followed her instructions and flipped to a new page, labeling the title, date, and page number. He paused. He still had no idea what to write. For the five minutes they were given, he absentmindedly put notes of what had happened the previous night, and doodled some random pictures of paopu fruit and flowers.
"You guys can go ahead and talk to your friends now!" the teacher called.
Basically the entire class stood up, and within seconds the room was filled with laughter and chatter. Sora gratefully got to his feet, sharing a knowing glance with Kairi, and caught Riku's attention, motioning for him to come over. The silver-haired boy snorted a little and walked over, his hands shoved inside his pockets.
"So!" Kairi spoke brightly, "What ideas do you guys have?"
"A few," Riku replied with a shrug. "Nothing too important, really."
"Next to none," whined Sora. "The only idea I have is something about what happened with my mom nearly making me late today because of her stupid gatherings with random people."
"How 'bout you do something funny?" Kairi suggested, "Liiiiike how you reacted when you found out you got accepted into this school?"
Sora paused, then muttered, "Hold on. Let me write that down," and did exactly what he said.
"I know I remember," Riku laughed. "Sora flipped out."
The mentioned boy scowled, "Can you blame me? I never expected to get into such a hoity-toity place like Destiny Islands Academy!"
"I'm surprised you haven't gotten expelled yet," Riku said sarcastically.
He glared. "Funny, Riku. Real funny."
Kairi giggled, "Well, I only have a few ideas, but my favorite one was when we made treats with paopu fruit for the first time!"
"Oh, those things were a disaster!" exclaimed Sora.
Riku scrunched up his nose. "yeah, we didn't even follow the recipe. Your kitchen looked like someone took a bag of flour and fruit and made it explode. Those tarts didn't even look- let alone taste- remotely like food."
"But it was so much fun, remember?" Her eyes sparkled.
Riku scoffed, "Yeah, sure, it was tons of fun blowing up your kitchen."
"Oh, come on! We were three!"
"Three year-old delinquents," Sora quipped.
She rolled her eyes, "Well, that's my favorite idea. What's yours, Riku?"
"The time when we made that flimsy boat and tried to sail across the ocean."
Kairi let out a sputtering laugh, "RIP Highwind!"
Sora made a face, "Ugh. We nearly drowned."
"Buuuuuut we didn't!" Kairi chirped.
"I stayed away from the sea for months."
"We. Were. Five."
"We were stupid," Riku pointed out. "I don't even know how we managed to believe that a pile of leaves and sticks could stay together. Plus we gave it a name."
"I liked the name," Kairi said in an effort to keep things on the bright side.
Riku shrugged. "What other ideas would there be?"
They all stared at each other, silent for a moment. Riku sighed heavily, "That means we have no ideas, huh?"
Kairi lifted her shoulder with a 'hey, what're you gonna do about it' look. "Are you guys gonna do the extra credit?"
"I can't write four pages," Sora huffed. "And I'm not exactly a prodigy at Art, so that'd be a no."
"Yeah, same here," Riku agreed. He looked up at the clock, "Five minutes left of class already? Huh. Time flies."
"Oh, that means we'll be cleaning up soon, huh?" Kairi sighed. "Well, the next period Sora and I have is Chemistry." She wrinkled her nose, "Ugh, I hope nothing blows up like last time."
"I have History," Riku scratched his silver hair. "Try to beat that."
"Nearly getting my new phone destroyed by a papier-mache volcano is pretty bad, Riku!" Kairi retorted.
"You and your phone," scoffed the addressee.
"Well, excuuuuuuse me! It took me an entire year to save up for it!"
Riku cocked an eyebrow. "Okay, sheesh, cool it."
At that moment, the teacher called, "Okay, everyone, we only have a few minutes until first period, so start cleaning up and I will dismiss you."
Sora shrugged and plunked himself back into his seat, sliding his materials back into his bag. The sound of clattering pencils and movement filled the air. A couple minutes later, the teacher began to dismiss everyone by rows, from back to front.
When he and Kairi got up, they went outside, exchanged quick goodbyes with Riku, and headed towards the Chemistry classroom.
Chemistry was one of Sora's favorites. The teacher, Ms. Aro, was really easygoing and cheerful. Someone could make a mess throughout the entire room and she wouldn't even bat an eye. Ms. Aro was encouraging and passionate about her work, and even though she could be a little eccentric, Sora really liked her personality.
(Kairi didn't care for Chemistry because it involved a lot of experimenting and making things sizzle/explode a lot.)
When the entire Chemistry class filed in and took their seats, Ms. Aro was peering down at a paper and muttering something to herself. As usual, her dark green hair was tied up in a messy bun, with one of the wavy locks hanging down beside her eye.
Her desk was cluttered and untidy, despite her lab coat and classroom being almost perfectly clean (albeit there were a few stains on both subjects). Sora was pretty sure that if anyone who wasn't Ms. Aro placed something on that desk and left for a few hours, it'd be no easier to find it again that if they'd thrown it into the ocean.
After about a minute of waiting, one of Sora's classmates knocked loudly on the table he sat at.
"Hm?" Ms. Aro's head shot up, her blue eyes wide and attentive. "What- oh!" She stood immediately, clasping her hands together and smiling broadly. "The class is already here! Time sure does fly, doesn't it?" She giggled, "I hope I wasn't keeping y'all waiting too long, hm?"
"No!" The class politely chorused in response.
Her face was shining with happiness. This was something else Sora liked about Ms. Aro: her energy was really contagious. The colors in the classroom seemed to get a lot brighter.
"Anyways!" Her hands unclasped and instead she clapped a little. "We have a fun little project we're going to do today. First things first, we need someone to pass out materials. Can I get volunteers? ...Okay, let's see. How about Selphie, Crane, Angeline and Olive? Selphie and Crane, please give a lab coat to everyone. Angeline and Olive, pass out the safety goggles. Thank you!"
Following the guidelines of the Chemistry room, Sora slipped on the white coat, buttoned it up, and let the goggles press against his forehead. Glancing at Kairi, he saw that she was letting her pair rest against her neck.
When the people who'd given out the materials sat back down and put on theirs, Ms. Aro turned to the covered whiteboard, and pulled off the sheet that concealed it. A set of directions was written there:
1. Update Table Of Contents: Mento Volcano Activity
2. Stand Up, Pair Up!
3. Pass Out and Glue In Activity Worksheet
4. Begin and Finish Project (directions are on worksheet)
She turned to the class with a mischievous smile, "By what I've written down here, you know what we're doing today. If this wasn't clear enough, let me know and I'll tell ya."
The class laughed for a good minute.
"I'll give y'all five minutes to update your TOC and get into pairs," she said, returning to her desk. "Starting now."
Sora turned to Kairi with a grin. She smiled back, moving her chair a little closer to him to show that they'd partnered up. Then they took out their Chemistry notebooks and updated their Table of Contents. While everyone else was debating who to pair with, he whispered, "Did you text Riku about History class yet?"
Kairi nodded. "Yeeeup. As usual, he answered a few minutes ago and was complaining about how horrible Mr. Creftar is."
"Can't say I blame him."
"Oh! He just texted me again. Hold on..." Kairi peered at the screen, then slapped a hand over her quickly-opening mouth in order to smother a laugh.
"What?" Sora leaned forward earnestly, "What'd he say?"
She took her palm away from her face, grinning, and showed him.
SilverLining: Ugh, honestly, he needs to learn how to teach instead of blabber all day. I mean, come on dude, literally no one in this class cares about your personal experience with the dinosaurs!
PaopuGirl: OMG, Riku! That's so mean! I'm not in History but I KNOW he isn't talking about that!
SilverLining: I don't even know what he's really talking about because of how stupidly monotone his voice is. The rest of the class would agree with me.
Sora grinned and snickered quietly so no one except Kairi would hear. "Riku's always in such a bad mood when he's in History."
"So is the rest of the Academy," she replied, then glanced back to the front of the room. "Okay, now shh. Timer's up."
This turned out to be true, as when Sora turned back so he faced the front, Ms. Aro was standing again with a huge smile. "Now! I'll be passing out the worksheets, so glue them in as quickly as possible so we can spend as much time on the activity as possible."
When the paper was handed to him, Sora looked it over as he glued it into his notebook. The whole process was sort of kiddish...but in Ms. Aro's class, everything was an exception.
As she went over the basic instructions- Sora was excited because they were going to make a volcano out of Coke and Mentos- his phone vibrated slightly. He made sure no one was looking and casually took out his phone to see what it was; Riku had texted something on their group chat.
SilverLining: Hey, does the sky look a little weird to you?
Sora cocked an eyebrow, then replied:
Hotel4Hearts: Dude, if this is another one of your 'made u look!' jokes, I'm not falling for it.
PaopuGirl: Didn't u say that the last ten times?
Hotel4Hearts Oh come on, Kairi!
SilverLining: No, I'm serious this time.
Hotel4Hearts: You said that the last ten times too.
SilverLining: Sora, just look out the freaking window!
PaopuGirl: Swear on it!
SilverLining: Fine, fine, fine, I swear on our friendship.
PaopuGirl: I think he's being serious.
Hotel4Hearts: Kay I'm checking.
Quickly hiding his phone again, Sora and Kairi shared a quick look before turning their heads to the window. For a moment it looked completely normal, and he thought that Riku had been lying again. But then he gazed a little more intensely.
Was it just his eyes playing tricks, or were the clouds turning...black?
Not just a stormy grey-blue color. It was as if ink had been spilled into the air, tainting the once white clouds with their darkness. It was beginning to cluster and gather, casting long shadows on the earth and buildings outside.
Sora glanced around again- the materials for the activity had been placed on his and Kairi's desk- before looking at his partner. She looked back, biting her lip as she hesitantly started pouring the unscrewed Coke bottle into the volcano as they had been instructed to do. He took out his phone again, fumbling for the chat.
Hotel4Hearts You're not kidding!
Hotel4Hearts: I don't think anyone else has noticed though...maybe it's just a weird storm?
SilverLining: I'm just hoping my eyes are playing tricks on me...
PaopuGirl: Ugh now I can't focus on the volcano project. The sky looks so weird. Should we be concerned?
SilverLining: Let's just ignore it for now. Focus on your project so you don't lose points. Mr. Creftar didn't notice Shizukana get up and leave the classroom.
PaopuGirl: Why'd she leave? Other than the fact that History is the #1 worst class to have ever existed in the Academy.
SilverLining: Mr. Creftar was taking attendance because he forgot to do it at the beginning of class. Maybe he forgot because his brain kicked it out of his memory to save all of his experiences in Jurassic Park or the Mesozoic Era.
PaopuGirl: RIKU! He's old, but not THAT old!
Sora quickly pocketed his phone again so any other things Riku sent wouldn't make him laugh out loud and get caught for texting in class. He and Kairi, who had also put away her phone, grinned at each other. Centering the artificial volcano on the safety tray, Sora opened the pack of Mentos and dropped two of them into its mouth.
There was a fizzing sound, and some brown foam spilled over the edges of the volcano.
While Ms. Aro appeared out of nowhere and fawned over it, saying something about how she was so proud of her students(?), Sora suddenly felt nervous, like fear was gnawing at his heart. Was something bad going to happen?
He could've sworn the black clouds were grinning malevolently at him.
Riku had said not to worry. So Sora pushed away the fear best he could, smiling and thanking Ms. Aro for the praise. When she left to talk to other students, he handed the Mentos to Kairi. She happily took one, then paused and asked, "How many do you want to put in?" Her eyes glimmered mischievously.
He grinned, and grabbed four other Mentos. "Put them in on three, okay?" She nodded, and they let their hands hover over the opening. "One...two...three!" All five Mentos plopped into the fake volcano.
Within seconds, a bunch of Coke and foam bubbled to the top, completely overflowing. It fizzed and sizzled as it calmed down, spilling over the opening. It was a good thing the entire structure was placed on a tray.
Sora grinned wider. He liked the noise. It was somehow really satisfying. Other people were finishing up, and were dropping their Mentos inside as well. The fizzing was random but loud, and he listened absentmindedly while he filled out the worksheet.
About fifteen minutes later, he'd finished the questions. Kairi dropped her pencil a couple heartbeats after he did- she was done as well. At this point they basically had free time. Sora took out his phone again and checked if there were any new messages from Riku. There was, from a few minutes ago:
SilverLining: Shizukana came back. Mr. Creftar didn't even notice. Now two of the people in her friend group are gossiping. Or daring each other to skip class. I can't tell with those two.
Sora hid his smile and replied:
Hotel4Hearts: R they gonna go thru with it?
SilverLining: Probably.
PaopuGirl: Oh, you mean the skateboarder and the rich girl? Yeah, I've talked to them a few times, we have music class together.
Hotel4Hearts: I think I've seen them around the Academy. What were their names again...?
PaopuGirl: Rich girl is Arashi, skateboarder is Ellia. They're really funny.
Hotel4Hearts: Oh, now I remember! One time Ellia nearly ran me over with her skateboard.
PaopuGirl: See? Hilarious.
SilverLining: I wonder whose fault THAT was.
Hotel4Hearts: Gimme a break, will ya?!
Their conversation was brought to a halt when a sudden, violent jolt shook the school. Everyone shouted in surprise, nearly falling over at the force of it.
"Goodness!" cried Ms. Aro, "Was that one of the volcanoes? Bonus marks for whoever did that!"
"I don't think that was a volcano!" squeaked Crane.
"Earthquake!" someone screeched, sending the class into an uproar of arguments. People yelled at each other, bickering over what they should do.
A large growl silenced them all. From outside, the inky clouds were growing. Thunder rumbled, briefly rolling across the sky and illuminating the black with terrifying light. Rain was beginning to pour down.
"Well!" Ms. Aro chirped, unfazed, "Ain't that an interesting sight? We need some excitement here in Destiny Islands Academy! Looks like y'all won't be having P.E. today if this rain keeps up, huh?"
"Hooray!" Someone randomly called out. Sora twisted around to see who it was.
Hotel4Hearts: Uh...Riku?
SilverLining: What?
Hotel4Hearts: Where's Arashi?'
SilverLining: Oh, stars. She's gone and Ellia's looking at her phone like she's gonna explode with laughter.
Hotel4Hearts: She's in here. Grinning at her phone. I think they're FaceTiming.
PaopuGirl: Lol. Mr. Creftar is still oblivious?
SilverLining: Yep. Still droning on and on about the Precambrian Age.
PaopuGirl: OMG RIKU STOPPIT
SilverLining: I know you think it's hilarious.
PaopuGirl: M'kay, I concede. What's he actually talking about tho?
SilverLining: ...I think he's talking about some old legend. Hold on, I'll try to listen as best I can to his monotone robot voice.
Sora rolled his eyes.
Hotel4Hearts: Thank you for your noble sacrifice, O Riku the Great.
Then he pocketed his phone as Kairi smothered a giggle. He looked over at Arashi, who had plunked herself behind him where an empty seat was. The occupant had gotten up to chat with his friends.
"Hi, Arashi!" Kairi chirped, "Skipping classes?"
Arashi grinned. "Skipping History. Can you blame me?"
"Nope." Kairi waved at the decorated phone in the blonde girl's hand. "Can we say hi to Ellia?"
Arashi held it up, and on the screen was the familiar face of Ellia. "What's up, Kairi? Hey, Sora!" she greeted, somewhat quietly. "Did you guys feel that jolt?"
"Who didn't?" Sora grumbled, rubbing his spiky hair. "Mr. Creftar didn't even stop lecturing?"
"Nope! Old coot is still babbling about a kingdom or something like that."
"Can you see Riku from here?" Kairi inquired.
Ellia nodded, "Yeah, one sec." There was some rustling, and then the camera was being directed at Riku, who was sitting in the second aisle in front of them.
Sora grinned, "Pssst! Riku!" he whispered loudly.
The silver head lifted and turned in surprise. Then he saw who it was and scoffed, "Seriously?"
"Not happy to see us?" Kairi teased.
"Maybe."
"Here," came Ellia's voice, and it looked like she'd handed her phone to Riku.
"Thanks," he replied, and looked at his friends, "How's Chemistry?"
"Awesome," laughed Sora. "Take a look." He moved aside so his friend could see the fake volcano on his desk. Arashi tipped her head curiously, and Riku cocked an eyebrow. "So, just a volcano project?"
"It has Coke in it," Sora explained, then took another Mento and handed it to Arashi. "Drop it in."
Obligingly, she leaned over, angling her phone so Riku had a good view (Ellia had moved to sit beside him so she could see too), before plopping the thin little cylinder into the volcano. After a moment, the foam sizzled to the top.
"Isn't that fun?" Riku peered at it. "Well, I can't wait for Chemistry."
"You said Mr. Creftar was talking about a legend?" Sora inquired.
He blinked. "Uh, yeah. Here, listen." He took the phone and placed it face down so all they saw was darkness. There was a brief moment when Ellia said, "You realize that's my phone, right?" before it faded to the horribly flat voice of the History teacher. Sora somehow was able to ignore that aspect and listen to what he was actually saying.
"...and in the History books I gave you, the last section is titled 'Legends and Lore'. Two of the legends it focuses on are that of the Keyblade War and Kingdom Hearts. If you want extra credit, you can either write a report about one of them, or propose your own theories about other details there may be about these legends. There is an interesting poem in there as well. If you try to interpret that, I'll accept it as extra credit too. Moving on from those optional assignments..."
The voice was blocked out by rustling, and the video feed blurred with color before focusing on Riku and Ellia's faces. The latter was holding the phone in her hand. Sora tilted his head, "Yeah, I never look at that book..."
Ellia shrugged, "That's because no one ever needs them when we get History assignments. The homework is so ridiculously easy. Not that I'm complaining."
Riku snorted. "He's probably too busy reminiscing about his days talking to velociraptors to notice how the work he gives us could be completed by a third grader."
Kairi gasped, trying to smother her laughter, "Riku, that's so mean!" she squeaked.
"True though." Ellia pointed out.
Arashi snickered, piping up, "Nah, I think some of those questions are a little challenging. I mean, come on, who puts 'name' as the first question?"
Kairi let out a sputtering laugh, Riku smiled and shook his head, and Sora smothered a snicker. Ellia rolled her eyes, "You stole that from Shizukana!" she accused.
"What? It's a good insult."
Sora looked around aimlessly, "Hey, do you guys know anything about those legends Mr. Creftar mentioned?"
"Mmm...nope!" the two blonde girls chirped simultaneously.
"Are you actually interested in them, Sora?" Riku inquired with an amused expression.
"...A little."
Kairi clicked her tongue, then started typing something on her phone. "Hold on, let me search it up..." Her eyes darted across the screen as she said, "The result that it gave says that the Keyblade War was an event that no one is sure took place or not. Apparently there were these special weapons called Keyblades that chose their owners...? People who wielded them started to fight over something, yada yada yada... Yeah, this doesn't give a lot of detail."
Sora thought about it, then rummaged around in his backpack before taking out a thick, heavy auburn book labeled 'History' in fancy golden letters. The girls exchanged surprised glances, while Riku lifted an eyebrow, "Do you keep that thing on you all the time, Sora?" he asked disbelievingly, "How are you able to walk with that on your back all day?"
"Never know when you might need it," he muttered, before opening the book and checking its Table of Contents. The last section was labeled- as he expected- Legends and Lore. Underneath it were at least fifteen entries. He saw a few interesting ones, like 'The Theory of the Other Worlds' and 'The Keyblade'. While the latter was linked to what he was looking for, Sora wasn't yet intending to read it.
He found the two entries he was searching for: 'The Keyblade War' and 'The Legend of Kingdom Hearts'. Checking the page numbers, he flipped to the entry about the War and filed the other away in memory.
"The Keyblade War," he read aloud. "There are many theories over what started this war, if it ever happened at all. Some say that fellow Keyblade wielders-" he glanced at the footnote that said to look at the entry 'The Keyblade', "-started to grow jealous of one another's powers and drove each other apart, sowing distrust and hatred for one another.
"Others claim that the wielders clashed over ownership of light, the force of goodness. Still others say that they fought about the balance between light and darkness: some believed darkness was an intriguing thing and needed not to be suppressed, others thought that only light should reign supreme, and the rest were convinced that complete balance needed to be kept between the two.
"And there are many more theories, none of which have ever been declared the most logical or the best. Whatever the truth may be about the Keyblade War, one thing is for sure: whether it be legend or fact, the stories clearly show that many lost their lives in the process."
He stopped. The article was over. The last sentence had another footnote that pointed out a different entry: 'The Keyblade Graveyard'.
"Dark," Arashi noted.
Riku made a grim face. Kairi bit her lip, and Ellia tilted her head, "What about Light?" she snickered in a sudden attempt to lighten the mood.
"Or Shadows." Arashi played along.
Riku rolled his eyes, "If you want shadows, look outside."
Instinctively, they all glanced back out the window. The clouds had gotten worse.
"...wow." Ellia frowned. "I think the sky's having a bad day."
"Night," Arashi smirked, then looked at it again with a tad bit of worry. "Is this, like, some sort of science phenomenon? Like, if we ask Ms. Aro, she'll give us a lecture on the makeup of the sky and molecules or something like that?"
"At least you don't have to fill out a worksheet on it!" chirped Kairi.
Riku scoffed, "Mr. Creftar hasn't even noticed us video calling you."
"Since when has he noticed anything?" Ellia snickered.
"Hey, Sora." Arashi nudged him, "Do you think if we asked Mr. Creftar about the sky, he would start talking about his near-death experience with the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs?"
Kairi let out a sputtering laugh while Sora tried to hide his snickers. Ellia cackled with no shame whatsoever, and Riku shook his head with exasperation.
"Ooh, what'cha laughing at?" Ms. Aro flitted over to them out of the blue, "Tell me! I love laughing!" Her eyes glittered, passing over Arashi as if it erre perfectly normal to have her here at this time.
"Uh, we were talking about the sky." Sora answered sheepishly.
That was the truth...mostly. He hid his phone from sight (not that she would gave noticed anyways). Riku and Ellia had gone dead silent.
"Sky jokes?" the teacher pressed.
"Yeah!" Kairi grinned. "There's this joke Riku likes pulling on us all the time, and we usually fall for it."
"Oh? Well, come on and share it! I'm sure the class and I would love a little prank!"
'Thank goodness for Kairi.' Sora stifled a laugh and, with all eyes on him, pretended to hesitate and mull it over as he exchanged glances with Kairi. Then he looked at the window, pointed, and shouted, "Hey, it's snowing!"
Everyone, including Ms. Aro, who questioned, "In spring?", immediately swiveled their heads towards the window.
It was indeed not snowing. It was raining, actually. The clouds were black and Sora was slightly worried that they seemed to be tinted with dark red and crimson.
Kairi, however, burst out laughing, "Made you look!"
This elicited a loud cackle from Ms. Aro, "That's a good one! Give Riku a thank you frok me, because that probably just made my day!"
"Sure thing, Ms. Aro!"
"Uh..." Arashi spoke up, "Not to be a killjoy or anything, but isn't the actual sky a bit worrying? It looks like it's raining blood."
As if having noticed her for the first time, Ms. Aro blinked owlishly at the blonde girl, peering at her. "You're in this class...?" she hummed.
"Right now I am. Seriously, I'm not joking this time. Look at the sky."
Frowning, though mostly at the comment of the sky's state, the teacher turned her gaze towards the glass. She blinked once, twice, thrice. She walked over, her eyes narrowed unreadably, and opened the window. Ms. Aro cupped her hands together, and stuck them out, collecting the fast-falling water.
She brought it back inside, looked at it, and pales. "Great stars..." she shook herself, allowing the water to splatter on the ground, and fumbled for her phone, swiftly dialinga number and waiting for them to pick up, her foot tapping rapidly. The class stared with collective horror at the ground.
It didn't look like water- it looked like blood.
The sky snarled.
Review Responses!
verdance: Thank you so much for your review! I was so happy when I read it and it spurred me to finish this!
OH. MY. GOSH.
After like FOUR HOURS of sitting here, typing away, the first chapter is DONE!
So I was looking through some prewritten stories I wanted to post, and I came across this one, read it, and decided 'why not?' It's a lot newer than most of my prewrittens, but I can't EXACTLY remember where I was originally going with it, so please bear with me.
I remember that when I was first writing this, it took me three months to finish this first chapter because my inspiration died...
My goal is to update every week to every other week. I only have like five and a half chapters prewritten, so after that this is going to get a little messy XD.
Remember: this is an AU! A lot of things will be different!
I might make the chapters shorter than this...
Hope you enjoyed!
somibel, OUT!
