Dawson started climbing down the cliff carefully with the two vines that him and Katherine made it to the bottom of the cliff. The vines were long enough and the rain finally stopped.
"Where's the egg?" Katherine thought.
"We have to get back up the cliff," Dawson suggested. "Basil is up there. And Grace is in the tree."
"Oh, Grace. I almost forgot about her. But the egg."
"You must forget about the eagle and leave this place. It's too dangerous."
"Oh, no, no. I'm getting this bird. And I have to find that egg to get her."
"Just let the eagle get it!"
"I've made it this far, Dr. Dawson. I'm not stopping now."
"You need to. Just let it go. Think about your daughter."
"But I need to do this."
"What about Grace?"
Katherine stopped talking and started thinking. Then she said, "Okay, we'll get Basil of Baker Street, my daughter, and then the egg. Right now, we need it."
"The eagle can get it so she doesn't have to hunt us."
"But I need to do something! I can't go on pretending my life is safe! It's not!"
"What are you talking about?"
Katherine sighed, "It's Albert. You don't know what he's like."
"Is he mean to you, not just Grace?" Katherine nodded. "Oh, now I understand. But we need to get to Basil and Grace."
"First Grace."
Looking around for the car, Dawson saw it on the top of a tree, stuck in the branches.
"I'm going to climb up there and get her," said Dawson. "Just wait here."
"I can go with you," said Katherine.
"It'll be best one mouse goes. The car might fall. Stay here."
Dawson walked to the tree as Katherine went to sit down next to the cliff.
Not up in the tree, but hiding underneath the leaves of the broken bush, Basil stirred awake. He first rubbed his head after he groaned and sat up. He pushed most of the leaves off him but that was when he saw blood on most of the leaves. Not just upon him but also around and it was from Albert. The bird ate him.
"Oh God," Basil groaned, knowing that could've happened to him.
Standing up was not a smart decision because when Basil did, his leg buckled on him. He moaned loudly and laid back down. There's nothing he can do now. At least he had Dawson with him who will return. As for now, he'd be with Katherine and Grace and coming back for him. Hopefully the eagle wouldn't see him in this state. It can still come back and finish him. The vibrations were gone that indicated the eagle left, going after its egg which Katherine was holding hostage. This was just like from Big Ben; the memories are coming back.
"There's no escape this time, Basil!"
"No," Basil mumbled, wiping his eyes. "No."
"Grace!" Dawson yelled while walking closer to the car. "Grace, I'm coming up!"
He came to the large elm tree that Dawson was lucky the branches were close enough for a mouse to climb. The only problem of him climbing up is the eagle. Birds can see prey from a long distance that he kept looking around him, hoping the eagle isn't anywhere near.
"I don't like this," he said to himself. "I never liked climbing trees."
He continued to climb even though he hated it. Dawson reached up branch to branch not stopping until he came to the car door. Inside was Grace knelt down by the steering wheel. Dawson opened the door while calling for her and he held out her hand by saying, "Grace, are you okay?"
"I threw up," said Grace nauseously.
"Just give me your hand." Grace looked at him skeptically. "I won't tell anyone you vomited. Hold my hand."
Slowly, Grace held onto the dashboard of the car to lean on it and reached over to take Dawson's hand. With his help, the two carefully climbed out of the car and onto the branches.
"Now the key to climbing," Dawson told her as they got on a big branch. "You don't look down."
Grace looked down and complained, "This is impossible. How are we going to-?"
"I'll help you."
Then the car started to moan and crack down onto a branch.
"Oh no," said Dawson realizing the danger. "Grace, go."
They climbed further down but again the car came crushing down onto them, close by Dawson who flinched. The car almost got him!
"Go, Grace, go!"
They started to climb fast taking Dawson's route. Halfway down, Grace looked up to the car when the headlights were on that the car was coming down on them.
"Go Grace!"
They climbed further down until the two mice came to the grassy and muddy floor ducking in time before the car could crush them with the front. They stood up and tried running for it but just as the car was leaning down, Dawson held onto Grace and they huddled just in time. The car fell back down.
"Well," sighed Grace. "We're backā¦in the car again."
"At least we're out of the tree," Dawson reminded her.
Together, they traversed out of the car and back into the woods. Now, they were safe away from the falling car.
"Where's Mommy?" Grace asked.
"She's over by the cliff. Let's go."
Dawson took hold of Grace and they walked back to the cliffs, where Katherine was waiting for the two.
"Mommy!" Grace yelled. She ran to her and the two hugged instantly.
As she held her daughter, Katherine went to Dawson and said, "Thank you."
Over by Basil, he laid on the ground when he heard a chirp. A small bird's chirp. That was enough to make Basil twitch, knowing he's a small mouse, but he at least stayed still. From his right was a small yellow finch bird digging through the mud looking for insects to eat. He just watched the bird, hoping it wouldn't come to him but he thought too soon. The finch came running to Basil along with its fellow birds. They were running around circling in front of Basil until there came a huge vibration on the ground and a squawk. There came the golden eagle and attacked one of the finch birds. The other birds flew away in a group as the eagle chewed upon the small bird.
"I'll never look at birds in the same way," Basil whispered to himself.
He stayed still noticing the eagle was slightly blind. It only saw whatever moved or made a sound.
"It's vision's based on movement." But not for a rat who still came to mind.
The walk to the egg wasn't too hard, Dawson, Katherine, and Grace found it next to weeds at a small river.
"Got it!" said Katherine, taking hold of the large egg. "Now I will have vengeance! And we can save your friend."
"Mommy, can we just get out of here?" Grace asked her. "I want to go home."
"Mommy needs to do this, honey."
"I want to go home. And where's Basil?"
"Think about your daughter, Mrs. Meadows," Dawson said to her.
That was when Katherine was quiet. She looked to the egg and then to Grace; then the egg.
"The eagle can find the egg and we'll go home."
"I can't go home," said Katherine miserably. "You don't know what Albert can do to me. I'll be in trouble."
"I would gladly help you."
Then Katherine looked to Grace, the egg, and back to Dawson saying, "Okay. We'll go home."
"Should we give the egg to the bird?" Grace suggested.
"Sure," said Dawson.
It wasn't that long until Dawson and the two climbed up the cliff and looked around. The tree with the opening was in front of them but not Basil.
"The nest is up there," said Katherine as she held the egg.
"Oh no," said Dawson worriedly. Now he knew that something was bad about the tree: The eagle's territory. This is where they encountered her and why the eagle arrived. He has to find Basil. "Put the egg next to the tree. We have to find Basil."
Katherine did so with Grace's help. From Dawson's right was a pile of leaves and blood upon them. One guess would know who this came from and not Basil.
"I think this was Albert Meadows," he suggested. Katherine was next to him that she hung her head yet smirked.
Not that far was a loud squawk from the eagle. The three looked around, grateful that it wasn't close.
"I think it's ahead of us," said Katherine, as Grace huddled with her.
"It could be anywhere," Dawson reminded her.
Close by came a moan. Under a pile of leaves is where the moan came from that Dawson uncovered the leaves and found Basil. He was laying on the ground and has an injured leg.
"Basil?" said Dawson.
"Remind me to thank the Meadows' for a lovely weekend," Basil replied.
There was another squawk.
"Any chance we can move him?" Katherine asked.
The squawk came again.
"Please chance it," said Basil as he sat up.
With Katherine's help, Dawson had Basil to stand on his feet after he put a tourniquet on him. He had to hold Basil since he couldn't use his leg.
"I remember I saw another car out here," said Katherine. "I'll look for it."
"Just stay with us," Dawson told her.
Katherine ignored him and looked around the cliffs and trees. Her and Grace walked around as they held hands that Katherine looked behind a tree.
"I found the car," Katherine told them.
Basil and Dawson walked together to Katherine and Grace.
"Oh, thank God," Basil sighed quietly. Then he spoke loudly. "See if the car is working."
Katherine got in the car, found a set of keys, and started the car. It went on.
"Yes," she exhaled.
"Ok, come on," said Dawson. "Let's get you in Basil."
The car was able to fit all of them that Basil sat on the back seat with Grace while Dawson and Katherine sat up front. Katherine switched seats to let Dawson drive. Close by them was a puddle in the formation of the eagle's feet and talons that Basil and Grace watched it vibrate due to the shakes. They came back and twice it occurred.
"Anyone hear that?" Basil asked. "Come on, come on. We've got to get out of here. Right now. Right now!"
Dawson started the car and drove away from the tree, away from the eagle's nest. From the trees, as the shakes occurred again came the squawking large golden eagle. Basil and Grace were facing it that Basil said to Dawson, "Must go faster."
The eagle squawked again running to them without flying.
"No, no, no!" Katherine screamed. "I don't have the egg!"
Basil backed away as Grace started to scream and Dawson drove faster as he saw the bird on the rearview mirror squawking again. The more he drove, down the muddy pathway, there was a large log in front of them that dangled from a tree. Because of that, Katherine shouted to everyone, "Look out!"
Basil looked behind him that he saw the log. All of the mice ducked in time that the mirror of the car crashed from the loose branches. The eagle easily ignored the branch that her size broke it. They kept going that the bird is getting closer to them that she rammed her head against the side car, giving it a large dent.
"AAAAAHHHHH!"
Grace was the mouse who screamed that Dawson drove faster than usual away from the eagle. The car was fast enough to outrun the eagle that it stopped and grunted in frustration. All of the mice were out of its way that Katherine sighed in relief. Also, Dawson grinned knowing he outsmarted the eagle. From behind, the eagle squawked again but in defeat.
