Chapter 6

The Calm Before the Storm

"What, on earth, convinced you that Killing her was the best option?!" Laura screamed as they passed the threshold of the Hale house.

They had done everything that they could to make it look like an animal attack, without leaving any trace that they had been there. They moved Paige out of the gym and outside taking her to the woods and placing her where she would be found. It was hard trying to make sure that nothing was left considering that Alex was consistently bleeding. Though, they managed it was still hard on Derek. Once they made it home and had Alex situated on the table in the dining room, all hell had broken loose, and Laura was throwing an absolute fit.

"For the love of God, Laura shut the hell up!" Alex yelled as they made their way over to him.

"What was that?" Laura turned her fury on Alex.

"I have an Alpha wound the size of a freaking toaster oven on my side, and don't feel like hearing you screech!"

They had ripped his shirt the rest of the way off and were prepping the cuts on his side for stitches. He hissed at the sting of the alcohol and held his breath when he felt Julie's hand on his hip. This wasn't something he had been prepared for. He had jerked himself out of the vision before he had even processed what was going to happen. He didn't see this as one of the outcomes, not that it really would have changed anything. He still would have rushed in like an idiot and would have still gotten hurt, even if he did see it happen.

"How dare you talk to me like that!" Laura screeched, tears springing in her eyes.

"Derek did what he thought was best!" Alex yelled as the first stitch entered his skin. "He was doing the humane thing, you brat. Don't belittle him for having the humanity to put someone out of their suffering. You're next in line for Alpha, you should know better. Don't act like leaving her there to suffer would have been the best option. Now, if you would please get out!"

He wasn't meaning to be such a prick himself, but he was in some serious pain. Not only that he could feel the emotions radiating off of his twin and it was slowly killing him. He and Derek were as close as twins could get and their sister was making everything worse. Her attitude was making Derek's pain worse, which in turn was making him hurt twice as bad.

"Mom," Alex called as the pain in his side turned to burn.

"Yes, dear?" Talia said taking his hand in hers. Black veins appeared on her arm and he silently thanked her for taking some of the pain away.

"First, please don't let Mieczyslaw in here. I don't want him to see me like this. Second, I can feel my powers growing."

"What do you mean?" Talia asked looking down at her son.

"I could hear the other Alpha. Hear what he wanted to do to Paige, Derek, and I. It wasn't good, momma. That thing wasn't an Alpha anymore. It like he had lost his human part and was completely wolf. Those images, I'm probably going to be having nightmares from that alone."

"What else is new," A new voice called as they stepped into the room.

"Emotions, I can feel emotions," Alex replied to Claudia.

The pain in his side decreased, as they finished up the stitches. It still ached, but not as bad as his head. There were too many people thinking, feeling. It was all too much too soon and he growled at how pathetic he felt. First the visions, then his eyes being purple, of all colors. His wolf presenting not too long ago and having to learn how to control that, and now this? How many more powers was he going to get.

"Thomas, how strong was the clan you originated from?" Claudia turned to the Alpha mate, a serious look on her face.

"I'm not sure. There hasn't been a witch born into our side for quite some time. I think the last one was over fifty years ago." His father replied as he gazed into nothing. "But from the stories, we haven't had a very powerful witch for like six hundred years? Or something like that."

"That's what I thought."

"Can someone tell me what's going on? And I mean tell not think, because Laura your thoughts are starting to make me angry," Alex growled his eyes flashing at the girl standing not too far from him.

He had caught on her thoughts, as they were the angriest. She was still upset about Derek's decision and at his words. He caught the words dumb, stupid, idiotic, and betrayal. He was not going to put up with that. Derek had done what he thought was right and no one was going to make him feel even worse for that. He had to kill the girl that he loved and it wasn't fair to make him relive that over and over again. He was already going to have enough issues with it as it was and he didn't need to see the future to know that.

"Then what am I thinking?" Laura replied snarkily. Sneering at Alex in the way a child would.

Alex didn't reply, choosing instead to turn his purple eyes on her. He growled, letting his displeasure be known to those in the room. This wasn't how he had wanted his day to go. He really wished that his visions came with a time frame like Claudia's did, but no his had to either be happening or they were going to happen very soon.

"Laura, go upstairs with Olivia and help watch the kids. There's six of them and only one of her." Talia demanded, giving no room for objection. Laura sighed and nodded making her way up the steps and to the kid's playroom. "And do not tell Mieczyslaw, 'Stiles', about Alex's condition, there's no need to make him worry."

"What's wrong with Alex," 'Stiles' asked coming down the stairs.

Alex wrapped the tatters that was his shirt around him so that the seven-year-old wouldn't see what had happened, but it was too late. 'Stiles' eyes zeroed in on all the blood around Alex and seen the stitches that had taken up half of the boy's side. Tears appeared in the child's eyes as he rushed forward and climbed onto the table.

"What happened!?" 'Stiles' screamed as he hugged Alex as lightly as he could.

His breath was coming out in sobs as he looked at his best friend. He was having difficulty keeping his tears a bay. Alex was fine not too long ago, now he was covered in blood and pain. What had happened in such a short amount of time?

"It's okay little guy," Alex mumbled ruffling the boy's hair, "I'm fine. A mean man was trying to hurt my brother and you know how overprotective I am. I got hurt trying to save Derek."

"Your clumsy," 'Stiles' muttered, tears pouring down his face, "I don't like seeing you hurt."

"I know buddy," Alex said letting the boy hug him. He felt the pain that the boy was experiencing, and didn't like that it was all at his expense. He wished for the life of him that he had thought his actions through, wished that the boy hadn't seen the condition that he was in.

"Alex will be fine 'Stiles'," Claudia whispered pulling her son away from the injured boy.

"NO!" 'Stiles' yelled slapping at his mother's hand clenching tightly to Alex's arm. "I'm staying with my Alex!"

"'Stiles'-"

"I said no!" The boy screamed, "He's hurt and I don't want him to be!"

"It's okay Mieczyslaw," Alex laughed climbing to his feet. "I'm going to lay down on the couch. Do you wanna come watch some T.V. with me?"

"Yeah," 'Stiles' said, scrambling off the table to follow after Alex.

"What does the advancing of his powers mean?" Talia asked once the two were situated on the couch.

"It means that we're going to have a lot of issues," Claudia muttered gazing after the two. "Did you see the flicker in 'Stiles' eyes when I went to remove him?"

"No, I didn't, but it's normal for a destined one to take on the characteristics of their mate. It normally doesn't happen so early in life, but then again our kind doesn't typically find our 'destined ones' so early in life," Talia replied.

"We really need to soundproof the rest of the house and not just the study," Alex yelled, "At least I can get out of hearing your actual words then. By the way, Olivia and Laura are about to start a yelling match upstairs."

"JUST SHUT THE HELL UP!" They heard Olivia scream, followed by a door slam. The girls came rushing down the stairs, Laura's eyes glowing gold as they continued to scream at each other.

"You can't tell me what to do!" Laura yelled.

"Well, you're getting on my last nerve!" Olivia screamed.

"June, Julie, will you go watch the kids? See if you can get them down for a nap?" Talia asked and the two women nodded making their way up the stairs.

"Laura's about to shift," Alex stated, his eyes still on the T.V.

"YOU'RE GETTING ON MY LAST NERVE!" Laura shouted, whipping around to show Alex her golden eyes. He just raised a brow at her, showing that she didn't scare him. She snarled, causing 'Stiles' to whimper in fear.

Alex's eyes flashed purple in defense, huddling the boy close to his body in response. She snapped her teeth at his showing that she didn't care and Alex jumped to his feet hiding the kid behind his back.

"Don't you dare," Alex growled, watching as Laura took a step forward. "I can hear what you're thinking, and I suggest that you don't."

"I already don't like this power," Laura snarled her features shifting.

Talia walked up behind her daughter, eyes flashing a bright ruby, red. She snarled one good time, letting everyone know that she wasn't playing around. Laura whipped around cowering at her mother's gaze.

"There is a child right there and if you do not calm down I will bust your ass. Seventeen or not you are still my child and living in this house and you will follow my rules. Do you understand me?" Talia said, eyes returning to green.

Laura nodded scrambling out of the house and into the woods. Alex sat back on the couch huddling the scared six-year-old in his arms, letting him cry.

"Now," she said turning to look at her oldest, "what the hell was that all about?"

"She just wouldn't shut up, momma. I will not say everything she said, nor will I repeat any of it. Derek is standing there and he already feels really shitty about all of this. Plus, I don't want Alex hunting her down." Olivia sighed.

"Okay, you can tell me later. Alex, you'll do the same with her thoughts. We don't need any distractions, we already have a lot going on and this is only the beginning."

"Momma," Alex said, his head jerking up from the child in his arms. He had heard her thoughts and he really didn't want to ask.

"I'll explain later son," Talia replied, knowing that her son had invaded her thoughts on accident. She was thinking about the fire that, according to Claudia's estimations, was happening very soon.
