He never seems to talk to anyone, or anything, he sleeps through the entire class' sometimes and yet he's still the top 4th person in here. I don't understand, nobody knows anything about him and nearly everybody doesn't care to talk to him, only one I know who has attempted is Gray and he was complete twat about it, got pissy Natsu wasnt talking to him, only grumbles and the occasional nod, but keeping eye contact, I noticed that.
"Erza, are you ok? You seem to be dozing off into space again." Lucy Heartfilia said as she looked at Erza from her own desk, which was situated in front of Erza.
"Yeah Lucy I'm fine, i'm just thinking about talking to Natsu, I feel bad that he doesn't have anyone to talk to really, I NEVER see him with anybody." Erza said as she rested her head on her hand and looked over to Natsu, he's been on her mind a lot since she first saw him in their freshman year. It's been three years and she hasn't said a single word to him.
"Well why don't you? Christmas is coming up and if my calculations are right then I'd say he doesn't have anyone to hang out with outside of school either. He does seem like the loner type, only one that I truly believe could live with himself for the rest of his life." Lucy said as she glanced over at him, he was sleeping again, she never really saw him as boyfriend type, but more so scary guy type with a soft side. "I still don't understand why you like him so much, Jellal is basically drooling for you and you don't even blink in his direction."
"Well Jellal is sweet and charming yes, but I don't know, I just don't care for that sorta thing ok?" Erza said as she opened her math book to do some of her homework.
"Ooooh so you like those kinda guys that break your headboard don't ya?" Lucy said as she slapped Erza's book, making her jump back a small bit.
"Oh you know it, haha, but honestly I don't know, what if he just blows me off like with Gray? Everyone remembers that, and if I did start to talk to him, everybody would notice and focus on us, I don't wanna be shot down in front of a lot of people you know?" Erza said as she brushed Lucy's hand away and continued to work.
"Well for one, i'm pretty sure he'd be at least semi competent with you since you're a female and i'm at least 85% sure he's straight, I can't give you a 100% due to that hair, and what's your minimum amount of people to be rejected in front of?" Lucy asked as she got a slight punch to the head from Erza.
"Hopefully none, people would gossip about that and it'd get around the school in less time than it did for your virginity to be taken away." Erza said as she scribbled away on her school work as a fist slammed on her desk with Lucy growing fire in her eyes.
"I ain't a slut, it was one time with Sting, and nothing even penetrated, if at best he penetrated rogue because that's what he called out when i finished 'it'" Lucy whispered as Erza held air in her cheeks as she tried not to laugh.
"Look Lucy, i'm sure every freshman has gone through their 'secretly gay boyfriend' at least once, you're not the first one." Erza said as she pulled out another book.
"But why did he pick ME? Don't gay guys get the 'average' chick? I got triple D's for crying out loud." Lucy said as she slanted over in defeat.
"They actually pick the hottest girl they can get to impress their fathers, but was it funny watching him trying to chase you down and tell you 'it's not what you think' or did you give him the cold shoulder as you walked away." Erza asked while her hand stayed glued to her paper.
"He chased me with his pants down so yea, it was kinda funny." Lucy said as she laughed at the thought.
"You know I used to be a nice proper girl with pristine qualities before you ruined me with your humor." Erza said as she closed her books and pulled out a box with her lunch in it.
"Oh please no one likes a square with a stick up their butt, although Natsu probably does, wanna go over there and give him the 'royal feast' of your strawberries? Or are you gonna walk over there with a personality?" Lucy asked as Erza chomped down her strawberry cheesecake.
"Thanks for the messed up humor of a personality, i'm sure he'll love it, but I ain't getting up in class, imma chase after him after school, or during lunch, I don't recall seeing him in there." Erza said as she put away her box and pulled out a book to read.
"Whatever you say, Lunch is in thirty minutes anyway, so good luck finding him." Lucy said as she sat back in her chair and got comfy.
Thirty Five Minutes Later
"Erza where do you plan on sitting? Jellal asked me to ask you." Gray said as an empty soda can came from somewhere and hit him in the back of the head.
"I'm not sure, but tell him i'm not interested please." Erza said as she went back into the line.
"Oi! Did you hear that? Erza dumped you again!" Gray yelled towards the lunchroom doors and another can hit him, this time in the face. "You gotta stop drinking these, it's literal poison for your body."
"Erza, I found him." Lucy said as she ran behind Erza. "He left the school and I saw him go to his car." Lucy said.
"He owns a car? How come I never noticed?" Erza asked.
"Probably because you respect others' privacy. Also I got this." Lucy said holding a ring and giving it to Erza.
"What's this?" Erza said, not wanting the answer.
"His, I stole it so you had something to talk about, just say he forgot it on his desk." Lucy said proudly as Erza's life drained from her face.
"Wha-wha-wh-why?!" Erza said as she held onto Natsu's potentially very valuable item.
"To give you a footing in talking to him, please stop freaking out, nothing could go wrong, it's just a ring." Lucy said as the lunchroom doors opened and Natsu stepped through the door. Since he's constantly sleeping or slouching and is never seen outside of the classroom really everyone couldn't get a good view of him, he stood straight and seemed to be 6'5 if Erza had to guess, but since this is his first time seen outside of the classrooms no one knew how to react.
"I take that back, that ring means a lot to him, and you might have to fight him." Lucy said as she walked away.
"Wait don't leave me!" Erza said angrily as she watched her meat shield walk away. She turned back to Natsu who looked around and walked over to the principal who was eating and asked him something, the principal responded but Erza couldn't hear, Natsu said thank you and walked out again. It was the first time anyone heard his voice other than when he mumbled to Gray.
"Wow, never thought I'd hear his voice, how are you holding up?" Mirajane asked as she walked up to Erza.
"Oh i'm fine Mira, just something came up." Erza said as she walked out the doors and followed Natsu, who was already out of the building, she caught up to him and reluctantly called out to him. "Hey uh Natsu!" She said as he turned towards her and made eye contact. "Ohh shit." She said to herself. "You forgot this in class on your desk, I just wanted to return it. "Sorry for the inconvenience." Hoping to get something he looked at her and nodded, getting in his car, a 1969 Mustang.
"Goodbye!" Erza said with a smile and wave, as Natsu pulled out he waved back at her and drove away.
"Well that was something." Lucy said as she popped up.
"More like nothing he just mumbled and nodded." Erza said as they walked back into school
"Rejection is a bitch ain't it?" Lucy said.
"How is this rejection? He didn't even say no, and I didn't even ask him out." Erza said as she walked away.
The Next Day
"Hey Erza, you ran off on me yesterday, what's up? You seem more distant than usual." Mirajane said as she stood next to Erza's locker.
"I was dealing with something important, but it turned out to be nothing so it's no big deal." Erza said as she cleared room in her locker.
"So what did you think? He did hold himself right, I didn't know he was that tall though, boy was like a tree haha!" Mirajane said as she cackled to her friend.
"Natsu? Yeah I guess he was tall, his voice though threw me off, I never really heard it before." Erza said as she reminisced about the voice.
"I also heard that he got a ticket for parking in the principal's spot, but someone just removed the sign and put it in front of his car so they didn't give a ticket." Mirajane said.
"So it worked out for him, he didn't have to pay for it or anything?" Erza asked as she closed her locker.
"Yeah the principle found out who did it and they were in trouble." Mirajane said.
"Hell of a coincidence." Lucy muttered as she walked next to Erza.
"Lucy!" Erza said.
"Don't worry she told me everything, you found his ring and wasn't sure how to find him, and that just so happened to be on the same day." Mirajane said as they walked into the homeroom, where Natsu was the only one in there since it was ten minutes before class started.
"Hey Mirajane I need help with my locker real quick, could you help me? I'll give you 20 jewels." Lucy said as they walked away, leaving Erza alone.
"Of course." Erza said as she had her head down and walked over to her seat. She sat down and just looked at her desk thinking about yesterday, how Natsu's voice seemed to echo 'thank you' over and over again until she snapped out of it and saw Natsu standing next to her.
"Uhh i'm sorry? I was daydreaming." Erza said as she blushed and looked up to the towering Natsu.
"I said 'Thank you' for yesterday, I kinda left in a hurry, my job was on the line." Natsu said and Erza didn't know how to react for a solid five seconds.
"You're welcome, my name's Erza." Erza said as she stuck out her hand, which Natsu shook gently and let it fall next to her slowly.
"Natsu." He said as he walked back to his chair and sat back down.
"Oh my god." Erza silently said as she heard a slight knock, she looked over to Lucy making obscene gestures involving kissing.
A Week Later
"You still haven't talked to him?" It's nearly Christmas time, he's starting to walk home just follow him after school today, we'll do it together, it'll be fun." Lucy said.
"I'm not stalking him." Erza said as she laid her head down on her desk, they were the only ones in class, skipping lunch.
"Fine, I'll stalk him alone, or I could bring Mirajane with me, and tell her your whole crush thing." Lucy said as she awaited an answer.
"You wouldn't." Erza said as she looked up to her.
"You wanna bet there strawberry shortcake?" Lucy said with an evil grin.
"I'll only follow until we see where he lives." Erza said as she angrily bit her arm, she does not like stalking.
"Hey, it'll be fine, besides I'm leaving tomorrow for my family break, I gotta make sure you got something done here." Lucy said as they stood up and walked outside, where it was freezing.
"You'd think he'd bring a coat or something, starting to remind me of Gray, bet he's cold to the touch as well." Erza said as they followed slowly in Lucy's car, staying one block away from him.
"Why didn't we just ask if he needed a ride? Seems kinda douchey just to track him in a nice warm car while he freezes his ass off. Who wears a t-shirt and jeans though in the middle of December?" Lucy asked as she turned the heat up in her seat and slowly relaxed.
"Yeah, he said he had a job, but his clothes and location seem questionable." Erza said as they passed a broken neighborhood with many houses that have more ply wood boarding up their windows and doors.
"Cheap house maybe, might be saving up for something." Lucy said as they passed another block and watched him walk into a garage next to the house., they pulled up and got a good look at it. It had all the windows, the door was decent, and the front porch only had a half missing step, but the rest seemed ok. When Natsu walked in the garage they could see his car with the hood popped open, that's why he had to walk.
"Alright since we've tracked him down, I feel accomplished, so now we can leave and you can continue your stalking party tomorrow." Lucy said as she drove down and did a U-turn, with Erza having an angry face nearly the entire time while she had the top part of her head poking up from the car.
"How am I supposed to explain how I knew where he lived?" Erza asked.
"Just say you asked the teachers. Hell it's what I would do." Lucy said as they turned around and headed back home.
"Teachers wouldn't disclose that kind of information." Erza said as she put her head in her palm.
"Be honest with your husband then, I don't know." Lucy said as she felt daggers stare at her.
"I'm not even gonna feed into that." Erza said as she pinched the ridge of her nose.
"Y'know ya wannnna." Lucy teased as the smirk ran across her face.
The next day, 2 weeks before Christmas.
"Lucy is gone and now you get me to talk too, how quaint." Mirajane said as she impersonated Lucy's signature grin.
"Stoop I already miss her, you know you do too, so what are you doing later?" Erza asked as the two walked down the hallway together.
"She gets 2 days off before our break as well, she said they are going upstate for christmas and won't be back until the 28th she only gets to hang with us for 5 days before we have to come back to school." Mirajane said as they entered their classroom, where Natsu wasn't there early, and Erza noticed. "Miss him already?"
"WHO TOLD YOU?!" Erza screamed, she knows how devilish Mirajane can get once she knows who anyone likes.
"You just did, I've suspected it for the last 3 years, you really think I wouldn't notice you daydreaming in your chair this entire time? Throughout our entire youth you were always the first to sit in the front of class to get the best "hearing range" from the teachers to learn better." Mirajane expressed with air quotations. "And out of nowhere when we got into highschool on the first week you sat in the front then progressively went back a row of desks every other week until you sat behind his row and kept taking glances at him. I'm surprised no one has called you on it or at least told him, although he does have a scary vibe, maybe that's what saved you." Mirajane explained and watched as Erza couldn't find words to defend herself with.
"Wh- H- Whe- I- I- Nats- I Don-...How obvious have I been?" Erza said defeated and looked up at Mirajane with puppy eyes.
"I'm only playin, I think I'm the only one to notice, I always found it funny when you get lost in his sight. Hell one day I saw drool slip out of your mouth and that was the only time I've ever seen you drool." Mirajane said as she held in a laugh."
"I never thought anyone would have seen that." Erza said as she blushed.
"You probably thought that cause I had to turn around and contain myself, I was actually seconds away from bursting." Mirajane said as she chuckled harder as other classmates came in. "So what are we doing for our break?"
"I don't know, you could come hang out whenever you want at my place, parents left me with an allowance for the break so we can have some serious fun, rent movies and go shopping for a bit." Erza said.
"Kinda hurtful your parents left you alone though, isn't it?" Mirajane asked, not trying to prod.
"No they needed a vacation, they have been working hard this entire year and we have had sooo many family vacations, this is literally the first holiday i'm not going with them, they need their alone time." Erza said as she smiled, she was genuinely happy her parents could enjoy themselves.
"Oh that's so sweet, if only Lucy were here, we all could have lived in your place for the 2 weeks and absolutely wrecked the place." Mirajane said. "We'll talk after class, hopefully Pinky shows up." She said the last part quietly in her friend's ear and went to sit in her seat in the very back of the class. But for the rest of class Natsu never showed up.
After school
"How come you've never told me about your crush by the way?" Mirajane asked as they walked down the street in the cold snow.
"I'm still worried that you have a plan or something to mess with it and try to push it like with Sting and Lucy. You also kinda scare me when you have knowledge on situations, I still love ya but your whole energy just reeks of demonic playfulness." Erza said as Mirajane giggled.
"I'm not even mad, I like that actually, you never know when I'm gonna strike." Mirajane said ominously.
"Please don't do anything, I really want this to work out." Erza begged as Mirajane looked over.
"How long have you known him? And how many attempts have you made, by yourself?" Mirajane asked with a cold stare.
"I gave him his ring?" Erza said in an asking tone.
"Lucy stole it." Mirajane said with dead eyes.
"Did she tell you or did you figure it out?" Erza asked, annoyed.
"Neither, you just told me again." Mirajane said as Erza got angry and red in the face with steam leaving her head, when all of a sudden Natsu's Mustang pulled next to them.
"Hey, are you alright, It's cold out here and a blizzard is about to roll through, do yall want a lift?" Natsu asked from the inside with his window rolled down. Erza visibly couldn't speak.
"You're such a sweetheart, thank you! We really would like a ride." Mirajane said as she slid next to Erza, they could hear Natsu open the other door so Mirajane pushed Erza to the other side and shoved her in next to Natsu.
"Uhh hi." Was all Erza could say as she got pushed into him by Mirajane getting in as well.
"I live 2 blocks down the road if you wanna drop me off first." Mirajane said with a smile, Natsu looked at his backseat and saw where Mirajane quickly took off hers and Erza's coats and threw them back there with their backpacks.
"Alright." Natsu said as he reached for the stick shift which rested between Erzas legs.
"Sorry i'll scooch over." Erza said as she tried but to no avail as Mirajane took up the rest of the seats.
"You don't gotta force yourself, it's fine." Natsu said as he reached for it and shifted it, hitting Erzas thigh and he focused on the road with one hand on the steering wheel, one hand on the stick shift. "It's beyond slippery out there, I'm only keeping my hand here in case I gotta emergency brake." He explained the situation as Erza kept quiet and silently screaming.
"Hey Natsu, I noticed you in class and I was wondering who you are." Mirajane said as Natsu tilted his head forward and made eye contact.
"What do you wanna know?" He asked and went back to the road.
"Do you have a job, and what is it if you do?" Mirajane asked.
"I work in a shop that also does a little blacksmithing. We can fix cars and we can make weapons, but we mostly just make props for shows or movies, when business is slow for vehicles our boss looks for people looking for prop weapons, we also have a small section of jewelry." Natsu explained.
"That is actually an interesting profession, a bunch of different jobs and you can do all of that?" Mirajane asked.
"Yeah, i'm one of the few who works in all sections, but that's because I've been at that place since I was 13." Natsu said as he pulled up to the traffic light.
"Ok my house is 5 houses down, it's the big white one with the porch light on and the reindeer next to our steps." Mirajane pointed down and to the left.
"Thank you Natsu." Erza finally peeped up.
"He hasn't dropped you off yet, save that for the special moment." Mirajane joked as Natsu chuckled, catching both of them off guard.
"Consider it payback for returning my ring to me, it was the last thing I got from my parents, I was worn out that day and coulda sworn I had left it on my finger, my heart dropped as I saw it was gone, instantly relieved when I saw you." Natsu said as Erza smiled.
"She didn't know how to give it to you when she found it, she saw you come in the cafeteria and that was her chance." Mirajane said with a chuckle.
"Well i'm thankful, it means a lot to me." Natsu said as he pulled over and let Mirajane out, who reached back and pulled Erza's belongings where she was sitting so Erza couldn't move over.
"Thank you Natsu, you're sweet!" Mirajane yelled back as she ran into her house with Erza blushing like crazy.
"So where do you live?" Natsu asked.
"I live about 10 blocks away, I understand if you don't wanna go that far." Erza said bleakly as she reached for her stuff and got Natsu's hand grabbing her stuff and putting it in the back.
"Don't worry about it, just give me directions." Natsu said as they locked eyes and Erza lost her voice again.
"Your hand is so warm and your eyes and voice are so alluring, I don't want to move but I don't want to bother you. My heart wants to speak to you but it's so scary." Erza thought as she continued to blush in front of Natsu.
"Do I go forward or do I take a turn?" He asked as a smile went across his face in an unsure way.
"Oh sorry uhh yes, please we should go forward." She finally said and coughed into her hand, as she felt her pocket vibrate, she received a text from Mirajane.
"Let's hope he doesn't take you back to his place by force, we both know you wouldn't be able to fight him." Erza read and her voice left her body as her brain started firing scenarios.
"I know I already said it but for real, thank you. That ring means more to me than this car or my house." Natsu said as he looked over at a paralyzed Erza who dropped her phone in her lap and had blood running down her nose. "Oh my god are you alright?" He asked as he pulled over quickly and went for his glove department for some napkins.
In Erzas head
"Just sleep Erza" Natsu said as he held a cloth with unknown substances on it to Erza's nose. "Don't worry about where we're going, just know we are both gonna be happy." Erza heard in her head as reality came back and saw Natsu reach for her face with an actual cloth looking object.
Reality
"WOoa" Erza squeaked as she looked into his eyes as he dabbed at her nose, taking her out of her fantasy. "Sorry I didn't realize that happened, that's never happened to me before."
"Are you alright? That's serious if it's never happened before, is your parents home, can they take you to the hospital?" Natsu asked.
"Oh no I live by myself right now, they are on vacation." Erza said and quickly questioned why she would tell anybody that information besides her best friends.
"I'd be a little nervous telling that info to people, some sick minds out there." Natsu said as Erza looked into her hands.
"I'm one of them." Erza thought.
"So what do you like doing Erza? Have any passions or interests?" Natsu asked.
"No nothing yet honestly, I've been looking into sword fighting though, I love the idea of combat." Erza said.
"That's badass, I'm rooting for ya." Natsu said with a smile.
"I know I said it before like you did, but thank you for the ride again, I've been wanting to know you for some time as well, you always sleep in class yet you remain near the top of all students, i'm one of the few to actually be above you." Erza said with a laugh.
"Yeah I explain the situation with the principal and teachers and they give me a break and let me use study guides at home you guys don't get, I study in my freetime and get caught up within a saturday night for the week, class is the only time i can catch some sleep in, sorry if it seems rude but I just can't help it, I gotta pass out." Natsu said.
"I don't find it rude, I always wondered. The day Gray tried to talk to you was the only time I saw you awake other than recently of course." Erza said as Natsu looked puzzled.
"Grey? He tried to talk to me? I don't remember any of this." Natsu said as he got stopped by the traffic light.
"You might've been so tired you don't remember but I saw you keep eye contact and mumbled to him." Erza said to which Natsu blushed.
"Shit I don't like that, I better apologize to him next time I see him." Natsu said.
"Oh no no no, you didn't seem rude, you just seemed really tired so after that no one tried bothering you again, everyone says you have a scary aura, I was always curious." Erza said.
"Well I wish I didn't alienate the whole class from me, but I guess it's deserved. So let me get this right everyone is scared of me?" Natsu asked.
"I'm not, like I said, neither is Mirajane by the way, as you could tell." Erza said.
"Hmm that's good, thank you for trying to reach out to me. No one has in years." Natsu said with appreciation.
"I would have done it years ago had I known you were this kind." Erza said with a laugh.
"Oh so you WERE scared of me?" Natsu said with a sly smile that made Erza's heart jump.
"Not scared in the sense of you being scary." Erza said with a huge blush.
"Ok so let me get this right, you've been wanting to talk to me for years, you never knew how to start the convo and it wasn't because I was scary?" Natsu asked.
"Please don't figure it out, Please don't figure it out, Please don't figure it out, Please don't figure it out, Please don't figure it out, Please don't figure it out, Please don't figure it out, no wonder this guy is in the top of our school while fucking sleeping 24/7 Please don't figure it out, Please don't figure it out, Please don't figure it out." Erza's mind panicked.
"I appreciate you being worried about me, but I guess i've been a loner my whole life, I understand if you were just wanting to make sure I was happy, and I really do like that, I hope we can hang out more, but I want you to know i'm alright, no need to worry about me." Natsu said with his smile fading and his eyes locking on the road.
"So I know this is personal and all but do you have anyone at home? Like any siblings or roommates?" Erza asked shyly.
"Only my pet cat, his name is Happy, minds his own business and eats plenty of fish, lovable little guy." Natsu said as he pulled the sun visor down and showed her the picture of the blue kitten.
"Oh my goodness he's adorable." Erza said as she smiled.
"Don't tell the little bastard that, it'll go to his head." Natsu said as Erza laughed. Which she hadn't done with anyone in her life, even her friend only got chuckles or giggles. Never a blurt out laugh, which embarrassed her to no end and she forcibly covered her mouth.
"Please don't tell anyone about that." Erza asked as her entire body turned red.
"I like your laugh, don't see the problem, but alright, i'll keep it secret." Natsu said as she melted in her clothes.
"Why me?" Erza thought. As her phone vibrated again.
"Natsu and you totally go together, your children would be sooo cute xoxo" From Lucy this time. Sending Erza in another fantasy dream.
Erza's mind
"Momma how did you and daddy meet?" a young girl with pink hair asked, a bright smile and hazel eyes.
Reality
"So I hear names sometimes when I'm resting and I was wondering about Jellal, only time I hear about him is when you have to reject him, or someone has to reject him for you." Natsu said. "When is he gonna get the point?" Natsu asked as he laughed.
"I have no idea honestly." Erza said as she rested her head in her hand and sighed hard with a total exhausted expression, when a lightbulb went off in her brain. "Actually, the next time it happens, could I get you to tell him?" She asked.
"Oooh we gon use my scariness to spook him off ya?" Natsu asked playfully.
"Hopefully he is afraid of you, and if you told him in front of people, it would be talked about by everyone." Erza said.
"Interesting." Natsu said as he pulled into another traffic light. "We have hit every single one I swear."
"I don't mind, I like talking to you." Erza said confidently.
"Same to you, honestly as sad as it seems this has been my favorite conversation this whole year." Natsu said as he continued forward.
"My house is the big red one, it has a strawberry on the upper right window, it's my window decoration." Erza said with a blush.
"Is that you always eating a strawberry in class? I smell it almost everyday." Natsu asked as he took an inhale.
"I didn't think someone could smell the strawberries, how good is your nose?" Erza asked with a smile.
"Better than average." Natsu said as he looked around the block and saw his big red target, he pulled in and Erza stepped out, grabbing her stuff.
"Thank you Natsu, I hope to see you tomorrow!" Erza said as she waved at him and walked to her house, only when she got to the door did she notice that he was still waiting, when stepped in and closed the door she heard him drive off, she slumped on the floor and got giddy and kept giggling to herself, she grabbed her phone and quickly texted Mirajane. "He just dropped me off, he waited till i closed the door to drive away and we had a fun talk and we laughed!" Not 5 seconds passed before her phone started buzzing.
