Authors Note: Thankyou so much for the views and follows! I'm still very early in this story but have loved the support I've received so far.
This is a shorter chapter, I really like that it explores the relationship between Angelina and Prue more.
Hope you enjoy!
Prue's feet thunked against the stairs as she sprinted down them towards the Great Hall as fast as she could. Her tie still laid haphazardly around her neck where she had flung it as she ran out of her dormitory and the heavy weight of the heaving bag on her shoulder pulled towards the ground, threatening to spill its contents with each step she took.
The first few weeks back at Hogwarts had left her busier and more exhausted than she'd expected. Her overstuffed course load was spilling out into the rest of her life which is how she found herself tired, hungry and running through the corridors to get to breakfast early and meet Angelina.
She shoved her white shirt into her skirt while she pushed her way into the Great Hall, running up against people as she tried to squeeze through the doors. Her eyes searched quickly, scouring up and down the length of the Gryffindor for Angelina. Spotting her dark hair pulled back into a tight bun against her neck Prue speeds up to reach her.
Angelina sits in the middle of the table, her brow furrowed as she scribbled notes in a book that lay on the table in front of her. Her other hand grasping a piece of toast that she swings towards her mouth intermittently before huffing in frustration and returning to scrawling her notes, having missed the opportunity to eat her toast. It seemed as if lately Prudence and Angelina only saw each other in the classes they shared, between their schoolwork and Angelina's quidditch captaincy they barely found enough time to say goodnight from their adjacent beds. They had been struggling to find opportunities to talk without a professor hovering over them, and Prudence was desperate to explore her theory about a particular red-headed twin filling Angelina's crowded schedule.
"Hey," Prue panted as she sat down beside Angelina out of breath. She hastily reached for a mug and filled it with piping hot tea, Angelina looked up at her with a glowing smile.
"You're up early!" Angelina laughed, closing her notebook with a snap and pouring herself her own cup of tea.
"Yeah, I wanted to come to breakfast early and try to catch you! It seems like you've been out of the room and finished with breakfast before I can even open my eyes in the morning lately" she replied, motioning towards the notebook she asked, "Were you working on Quidditch plays?"
"Yeah, we have keeper tryouts tonight, and I wanted to put together some drills to run through with the team. I feel like I haven't had time to do anything for Quidditch with all the homework Snape has been giving me."
Prudence focused on buttering the toast in front of her, trying to find a way to artfully ask about George.
"Can you pass me the marmalade?" she requested, she couldn't stop thinking about the sugared citrus spread lately, as Angelina handed it to her she continued "So you've just been extra busy with Potions homework is that all? Nothing else taking up your time?"
So much for subtlety, Prue thought.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean I sit next to you in class, and we have most of our classes together, but somehow you always seem to be late to our next class, and a certain red-haired twin seems to wander in either exactly 30 seconds before or after you." she teased, watching Angelina's mouth pop open in surprise, a blush creeping across her skin again. Shoving toast into her mouth, she inquired "Not as subtle as you thought?"
"No… clearly not as secretive as we thought we were," she finally replied.
"I'm your best friend, it is kind of my responsibility to spot these things, I'm sure everyone else is still in the dark" she assured her "Except for Fred, he must have worked it out."
"Why?" she quizzed back.
"He's stuck walking to classes with me since you and George have mastered a disappearing act."
"I think you overestimate how much Fred notices when he's in your presence" Angelina retorted. As if she knew what kind of response Angelina was going to give her Prudence rolled her eyes in tandem.
"So what is making you so late to class anyway? Are you walking really slowly or are you making use of some hidden spots between class?" she could tell from the blush that was yet again creeping across Angelina's face that she'd probably guessed correctly with the latter.
Before Angelina has the opportunity to hit her with a scathing retort, Prudence saw her eyes flick up to the entrance of the hallway and an excited look park on her face. She didn't need to lift her head to know that at least one lanky twin would be sauntering in their direction, and that likely there were at least two.
Prudence was quickly proved right as a long arm reached over her shoulder, pressing faintly down against her shoulder. She turned her head to see Fred leaning over her, his hair pushed back away from his face. He grabbed a piece of toast from her plate and lifted it to his mouth with a wink in her direction. She flung her legs over the bench, spinning so that she sat facing him now.
"Mmmm marmalade, my favourite, Buchanan" he joked, crumbs of toast stuck to the corner of his mouth.
"Weasley!" She snapped, her voice softened with a laugh "What do you think you're doing?
Fred arranged an exaggerated pout on his lips as he looked down at her "Buchannan, How do you expect me to learn effectively without a nutritious breakfast?"
Prue tried to stifle her laughter "Forgive me, I didn't realise effectively learning was so important to you?"
Fred lent down to her, his face now level with hers. His lips resting just centimetres from her own.
"Not sure why you find the idea so funny Buchanan" he grumbled.
"Are you ready to go Ang?" Fred straightened at the sound of George questioning Angelina, pulling his face away from her own.
"I'm really sorry, I need to go and talk to Harry about quidditch trials today, I'll meet you in class." George's shoulders dropped slightly in disappointment as she spoke.
"Pru I know it's not usually your thing but will you come and watch the quidditch trials this evening?" Asked Angelina as she packed her notebook and began to walk away from the table.
Prudence nodded in the affirmative, allowing Angelina to see her response just as she turned and jogged off, trying to catch Harry and his friends before they walked out of the hall.
"Well, should we go then?" Prudence asked the twins.
Fred bent and placed his arms around her waist, pulling her up off the bench.
"Come on then Buchanan"
She turned to him ready to tell him off, but before she could open her mouth, she heard the twins.
"You should probably grab that last piece of toast Buchanan before it…" George and Fred's voices mixed together as they spoke at the same time.
Prue just had time to pick up the toast off her plate as the food, cups and plates vanished off the table.
"All right let's go" she responded walking off towards our first class of the day, the twins trailing behind her chattering.
