AN: Hey guys! I had a glitch so this chapter didn't upload. Sry!
"I think that's it!" I exclaim, gathering the last of the dirty napkins off the tables. Emma and Stewart left for their honeymoon an hour ago. The guest filed out soon after, which left us bridesmaids and groomsmen on clean up duty.
"Bye guys!" Megan and Simon wave, followed by Becca and Theo.
"See ya!" Cassidy and Tristan give me a high five.
Darcy grabs my hand and we walk toward the parking lot. A few yards from the car Darcy takes an abrupt left toward the park.
"Darcy, the car's back that way."
He chuckles. "I know, I thought we could take a walk through the park."
"It's 2 in the morning and I can't see anything."
He pulls out a flashlight. "Bring back memories?"
"Definetly."
He smiles. "You don't even know how nervous I was."
"You were nervous? I never thought that was possible."
He laughs. "It's rare."
"What other times have you been nervous?" I ask. He thinks for moment.
"Talking to you about staying together during college,"
"Why?"
He runs his hand through his hair. "I didn't know if you wanted to stay together or not. I wanted to, but I didn't know if you wanted to."
I squeeze his hand. He smiles.
"Oh yeah, and asking you to move in together."
He starts picking up the pace and we end up in front of a gazebo. He grabs for a string in the darkness somewhere and tugs it. A bunch of twinkle lights light up the gazebo. I gasp and he walks me inside.
"Anything else you were nervous about?" I ask.
"One more thing."
He gets down on one knee. My eyes widen and goosebumps appear on my arms. Darcy grabs a tiny box out of his pocket with his one hand and grabs my hand with the other. My knees are shaking, and It feels like his hand is the only thing keeping me from falling.
"Jess," He starts. My breath gets shallow and my eyes start watering. "You're the first person I wanna look at when I wake up in the morning, and the one I want to kiss goodnight. You're the person I want to spend the rest of my life with and I've known that for a long time."
Now, I'm full on crying.
"I promise you that I will do anything to make you happy. And I'll do anything to make you smile because you have the most amazing smile, Jess. And what I'm trying to say is Jessica Delaney, will you marry me?"
"Of course." I whisper. His smile is so big my heart almost explodes.
He stands, picks me up and twirls me around, he doesn't put me down but instead, he kisses me. I wrap my arms around his neck and kiss him back. We're like that for a while until he finally puts me down. I look at the ring which is gorgeous.
Darcy watches me. "You like it?"
I nod my head and bite my lip to keep from crying again.
I hug him. "I love you."
"I love you more."
I look up and smile at him. He smiles back down at me.
"We can't tell anyone yet. I don't want to steal the spotlight from Emma."
"Kyle, your parents and my parents know, but that's it."
"Okay, we'll tell everyone after Emma gets back from her honeymoon."
Darcy turns off the lights and grabs my hand. We run back to the car and drive home.
"Okay guys, no homework this weekend." The high schoolers cheer and high-five me as they walk out of class. I laugh and collect the papers on my desk. I teach calculus and choir at Alcott high.
"Whats that about?" Darcy asks walking in and kissing me on the cheek. He teaches history and coaches varsity football, hockey, and baseball. Practically every sport in this school.
"No homework." I reply sitting down in my desk chair and pulling out my lunch.
He laughs and pulls up a chair next to my desk. I don't know how my senior boys fit in those things. Darcy looks huge compared to it.
"Emma and Stewart come home today." He says, like I haven't been waiting two weeks for this day.
"Yeah, I told Emma we'd go over there right after work. There isn't a game tonight, right?"
"Nope, we have a bye this week."
"Good I was thinki-" There's a knock at the door and I gesture them in. Three Senior girls come in, Renesmee, Quinn, and Alice.
"Hi, Ms. Delaney, we were having an argument and we thought you could help."
"Of course, what's it about?" They go silent and I see them glance at Darcy. He laughs.
"I guess that's my cue." He winks at me and walks out. The girls all watch him leave. Darcy has become popular with the girls here, which, of course, he's oblivious to, and which I find hilarious.
They're gaze snaps back at me. "Okay," Quinn starts, "So you know how Alice has been with Derek for like forever?" I nod. "Well she doesn't know if she should stay with him during college or not"
"I think she should." Renesmee chimes in. "My parents are high school sweethearts,"
"Yeah well, your parents are perfect." Quinn replies. She's not wrong. Mr. and Mrs. Cullen are flawless.
"Ms. Delaney and Mr. Hawthorne are high school sweethearts." Alice adds.
"Really?" Quinn asks. "But you're not even married."
"They're engaged," Renesmee replies. "Look at the ring" Quinn and Alice look at my hand.
"When did that happen?" Alice asks.
"This weekend." All the girl's sigh. "Ok but do you guys want my opinion on Derek." The girls nod. "I think, Alice, stay together for now. Put a lot of effort into that relationship, and if it doesn't work out, you'll know that you at least did all you could, and it just wasn't meant to be." The bell rings and I wave to the girls as they walk out.
Darcy is waiting by the car when I get outside. He opens the door for me, and I get in. We pull out of the parking lot and starts driving towards Emma's. Darcy grabs my hand. "Excited?"
"More than excited. I've been waiting to tell her for so long."
He laughs. "It's been two weeks."
"Yeah but you could tell Kyle."
"True." He pulls into the driveway and I practically catapult out of the car. Darcy laughs and runs after me. I ring the doorbell and the door swings open.
"JESS!"
"EMMA!"
She grabs my arm a pulls me to the kitchen. There's a bunch of ingredients for cookies.
"Just like old times!" She says.
I laugh and grab the bowl and start cracking the eggs. Darcy and Stewart go to the living room and start talking sports.
"Tell me all about it!"
She stops mixing for one second and sighs. "It was so romantic Jess. First we went on a boat ride through the cayman islands then we…" I listen as she relives her two weeks. She skips the really intimate parts but other than that she gives me every detail.
I take the cookies out of the oven and the room fills with the smell of chocolate. Like magic, the guys come running into the kitchen.
Darcy put his arm around my waist. "What do we have here?"
"Chocolate chip cookies but be careful they're hot." Obviously, temperature means nothing to them when it comes to food, and Darcy and Stewart scarf down three cookies each.
"That was delicious." Stewart says patting his stomach.
"Agreed" Darcy replies.
"Good, it's the only thing I can cook." I say. Cooking is not my strong suit, and thankfully Darcy got the cooking gene from his dad. I can bake cookies and cakes but that's it.
Emma grabs the leftover cookies and puts them in a tin for Darcy and I to take home. "So, did you guys do anything fun while we were gone?"
Darcy looks at me and winks. "Actually," I start. Emma tilts her head, curious. "Darcy um…" Emma's brows furrow as she looks at Darcy for a translation. He nods his head toward my hand that has the ring on it. Her gaze focuses on my hand and then her head snaps up.
"You're engaged?!" She crys. "When did that happen!"
"Two weeks ago." I reply.
"At our wedding?" Stewart asks.
"After your wedding, technically." Darcy chimes in.
"Why didn't you tell me!" Emma yells.
"I didn't want to steal the spotlight off of you or Stewart. Don't worry only Kyle and our parents know."
She runs over to Darcy and I and hugs us. "You're engaged!" she squeals. "We're going to be sister-in-laws!" She tugs us to the living room. She sits on the sofa. "Tell me all about it."
