Summary: When Ray teases Kai about Hilary. He blurts out something which makes Hilary to question her self-worth. Can he clear the misunderstanding? Or will it be too late?

Worth
The Granger Dojo:
It was a lazy day in dojo. Tyson and Max went out to buy icecream and popcorn for the movie night that they have been planning since few days prior. Grandpa was cleaning the backyard rather enthusiastically.
Ray was lazily leaning against the wall. While Kai was meditating in the room.
" So.. What's up with you and Hilary?" asked Ray suppressing a smirk.
Kai who had been meditating opened his eyes, startled.
" What are you talking about?" Kai feigned ignorance.
" You don't think I'm dumb enough to miss you sneaking glances at her when you think no one is watching. Do you?"
" You must be mistaken. There is nothing of that sort." Kai denied immediately.
" Is that so? Then why do I see a red tint on your cheeks? Is that by mistake a blush?" teased Ray.
Kai's cheeks flushed even more on hearing Ray's words. Trying to overcome this embarrassing moment, Kai spoke whatever came to his mind without any filter.
" Ray, Have you lost your mind? Hilary and I? That must be a joke! She is bossy and annoying. She isn't worth my time."
Saying this, Kai was about to close his eyes to continue meditation but was interrupted by gasp followed by sound of cokes tray hitting the surface.
Kai and Ray turned their heads in that direction only to be faced with a teary-eyed Hilary with her clenched fist on her mouth trying to stifle her sobs.
Ray looked at Hilary worriedly. While Kai stood there shell shocked. Then what she uttered made Kai regret what he said.
" I didn't know that you think of me as worthless. Don't worry, I won't be imposing on you anymore."
With that being said, Hilary ran out of dojo ignoring Ray who was shouting her name.

It had been two days since that incident in dojo. Hilary have stopped coming to dojo and hanging out with Bladebreakers. The absence of ever energetic brunette left a gloom in atmosphere. No one raised question about Hilary's absence as they were informed of the incident.
" That teaches her a lesson not to boss around people." Tyson said obnoxiously when he heard about incident.
Grandpa whacked Tyson's shoulders forcefully to which he winced.
" Hey Gramps! why did you do that?" grumbled Tyson.
" You can't say such mean things Tyson!" Grandpa chided him.
Then only did he notice Ray and Max glaring at him while Kenny frowned at his laptop. Kai remained silent, his arms folded and eyes closed.
" Hey, Atleast Kai is on my side! Right Kai?" Tyson looked at Kai for support.
Kai abruptly stood up and left the room. Everyone watched Kai's retreating form as he left to practice in backyard. Then-
Silence.
Click.Tap.Tap.Click-
Only Kenny's furious typing can be heard. Until-
" What's up with Sourpuss?" Tyson grumbled.
Everyone sighed.

Boys were slumped on the floor. Exhausted. Today, Kai was particularly cruel in training. He made them battle eachother repeatedly for three hours.Without any break.
Everyone could see Kai was bothered. Kai was quiet. Quieter than usual. Everyone had a clue as what bothered Kai. Or not.
" What crawled up your ass and died there? You are more cruel than usual ! " Tyson moaned tiredly.
Rumble!!
Tyson's stomach growled hungrily.
" God! I'm hungry. Gramps what's for dinner?" Tyson perked up remembering food. Exhaustion forgotten.
Everyone sweat dropped at Tyson's antics.

Two more days passed. But still there is no sign of Hilary. Neither in dojo nor in school. Bladebreakers became restless. They stayed away from Hilary to give her space. But they felt something is not right. Not only with Kai. But also in atmosphere. At last -
" Guys, We need to go and talk to Hilary." Max said with concern.
"Yeah, She is not even attending school. Let's go and check up on her." Kenny piped in.
Kai who have been looking out the window turned to look at Tyson expectantly and asked,
" Where is her house?"

Ding - Dong !
Boys stood in front of Tachibana residence waiting patiently for someone to open-
" Oh, Open the door! How much longer should I stand here?" exclaimed Tyson rather impatiently.
Or not so patiently.
Max opened his mouth to retort but closed his mouth as the door was opened by a middle aged woman with brunette hair.
The woman looked tired as if she was bearing entire world's weight and her chestnut brown hair has grey hairs inbetween making her look older than her age.
" What can I do for you?" came her polite but feeble voice.
" We came to see Hilary. She is not coming to school. What happened to her? Is she okay?"
Kai asked her in flurry gaining knowing looks from everyone and weird stare from Tyson.
" You.. don't know?" Woman asked slowly with teary eyes. That seems to catch everyone's attention as everyone snapped their eyes to older woman.
" Mam, What are you talking about?" asked Kenny.
Woman's eyes brimmed with tears as her eyes showed longing and pain. Her shoulders shook with her efforts to suppress her sobs.
" Hilary. She- She died on Saturday last week." Finally came her heart breaking answer.
" What?" Everyone asked in union.
" How?" came Kai's trembling voice.
" Accident. She was hit by a car. We admitted her in hospital. But doctor said it was too late. Her brain was dead."
By now, She was sobbing heavily. Her tears freely ran down her cheeks in rivulets.
Everyone stood shocked.
" No, this is not true. It's not happening. oh nightmare." Kai muttered to himself repeatedly.
Suddenly, They were no longer standing infront of Hilary's house. Everyone disappeared. Kai stood alone. In a void. Wherever he looked, it's dark.
Darkness.
A strong gust of wind came around taking Kai into air and he fell down in darkness. Distinctly, he heard a voice. It was calling his name.
" Kai! Kai!! "

" Kai! Kai!! Snap out of it!" came Ray's voice.
Kai came out of his daze. He blinked his eyes. It was an illusion. He immediately felt immense relief. But, wait-
" Where's Hilary?" Kai asked with worry.
" She ran out-" Kai didn't bother to listen to the rest. He dashed out of dojo and started searching for her in streets.
After sometime, He found her in a park.Hilary sat on a swing staring at setting sun.
He stepped on a twig. She snapped her head in his direction. Her eyes were red as if she has been crying. She looked sad.
But her sadness turned into anger as she realised it was Kai.
" What are you doing here?" she asked him angrily.
" Hilary, I came here to apologize for-"
" No need. You don't have to say anything. I heard enough." Hilary interrupted him in mid sentence.
" But, Hilary. What I-"
" Kai! Save it. I.Don't.Want.To.Hear.Anything. Understood? " She punctuated every word forcefully as if she is trying not to burst out.
She jumped from swing aggressively and crossed Kai to leave. But Kai grabbed her hand preventing her from moving any further.
She tried to snatch her hand. But, Kai's strong but gentle grip didn't allow her to take her hand away.
" Leave my hand Kai!"
" No."
" What? Kai leave-"
"Please." Kai interrupted her angry rant with a plead.
Hilary stilled her movements with shock. Anger forgotten. Seeing as Hilary is no longer protesting. Kai seized the chance.
" Hilary, I am sorry for what I told about you. That's not true."
" Then why did you do that?" asked Hilary feebly. Exhausted.
"Do what?" asked Kai.
" Bad mouthing me. Calling me bossy, Annoying and worthless." Hilary glared at him fiercely.
Kai immediately felt guilty.
" I am sorry Hilary. I didn't mean one thing in what I said. I- I was-" Kai broke off in mid sentence struggling to say something.
" You was what? Tell me." She encouraged him to tell further.
" Hilary, I- I like you." Finally Kai admitted what he was trying to cover infront of Ray. He felt relieved. But at the same time, tense.
Hilary just received shock of her life. If possible, her mouth would have hit the ground.
" Kai, What did you say? Did you say you like me?" asked Hilary slowly as if in disbelief.
" Yes, Hilary. I like you. I was interrogated by Ray. I was flustered and spoke nonsense." Kai hurriedly added trying to make her understand the situation.
Slowly tears dropped from her eyes and Kai panicked,
" I'm sorry Hilary-"
" I like you too, Mr. Sourpuss. Shut up and kiss me." she interrupted Kai.
With that said, She stood on her tiptoes. They both leaned closer to each other. When their lips met. Their eyes met filled with passion before they closed on their own accord, enjoying the moment.

Dojo ( Movie Night ) :
Movie was going on. But no one paid attention to it. Everyone sneakily glanced at couple snuggled together. Hilary's head was on Kai's shoulders and Kai's head on Hilary's head.
Tyson who was concentrated on movie asked Ray to pass the popcorn. But not getting a response glanced at him annoyed. Only to find not only him but also everyone else sneaking glances at Kai and Hilary's direction.
" Guys, What's happening?" he enquired curiously.
Everyone sighed.
We all have that oblivious friend who doesn't know what's happening around him/her. Don't we?
