Chapter 1: Birthday Wishes

The first few weeks of summer vacation have been nothing but utter torture for Harry Potter. He was on the brink of turning 15 and all that his Muggle relatives, the Dursley's gave him was nothing but a pair of socks and Dudley's old used clothes for his birthday. Sure Harry did appreciate the gifts, but he didn't like the fact that he still had to wear old shirts that are stretched out like Saturn. "Harry, get down here and set the table!" yelled his Uncle Vernon. His uncle was a very moody man, fat, and grumpy man. He often treated Harry as a slave most times and made him work to the bone. Soon Harry would be of age in the Wizarding World next year. This would mean that he would own an apartment or he would stay with the Weasly's. Both were good options but that would be a long time yet.

"BOY GET DOWN HERE AT ONCE!" Uncle Vernon shouted. Harry sighed as he sat up from his small twin-sized bed and walked out of his room.

Harry walked down his stairs and saw his Aunt Petunia in the kitchen still cooking Sunday roast for dinner. As he entered the kitchen, he looked to his left and saw his cousin Dudley on the couch watching the soccer game. "Harry the plates," said Petunia. "Yes ma'am," Harry said with a sigh. As he set the table and cups and his Aunt placed the food on the table, everyone was able to sit on the table and begin the feast. However, his Uncle Vernon told Harry that he would only eat a small portion. Harry nodded and took a generous portion of the roast. Only 10 minutes into dinner and Harry was already done with his plate. He slumped into his chair as he saw his so-called "family," devour the food as if they hadn't eaten in over 3 weeks.

After dinner, Harry was told to wash the dishes and clean the table as everyone else went to bed. He was able to finish his tasks in an hour and he walked back to his room upstairs. He closed the door behind him and sat at his desk. As he sunk into the wooden uncomfortable chair, he thought to himself, "why on God's green Earth am I still here?" He sat there for a while, looking into the sky above Privet Drive. He then noticed a small flock of unknown objects moving slowly towards him. As he stood up and squinted his eyes, he was able to figure out that the flock heading to him were owls. He quickly opened his window to let the owls stand on his window. As each of them landed, mails and parcels tied their legs, Harry untied each of the gifts that had been sent to him. He had noticed that each of the gifts that he received was from his friends at school.

He gave each of the owls some treats and freshwater and sent Hedwig into her cage to rest. As Harry sat on his twin-sized bed, he read through each of the letters and ripped through the papers that were covering his gifts.

Dear Harry,

It's been quite an odd summer ever since the Triwizard Tournament. I and my family had recently visited the Forbidden City in China. Oh, how wonderful it is to see all the ancient buildings of the country. I was able to buy you a small gift that should suit you well. I can already tell that you are confused about what it is. It's a miniature statue of Emperor Kangxi, an ancient Chinese ruler during the Qing Dynasty. He ruled with an iron fist but was quite wise like you.

Well, I hope it will suit you well, as it is known to give luck to the person it is given to. Please write back to me as soon as possible. I desperately want to know how well you are and how the Dursley's are treating you. I will be at Diagon Alley on the 25th of August, just the same time as Ron and his family. I also want to wish you a Happy 15th Birthday Harry. Hopefully, the next school year will turn out better…

Love, Hermione

Harry gave a small smile and grin while looking at the letter and the statue that was given to him. He then started to open Ron's gift. He noticed that Ron wasn't the best gift wrapper as he saw that the parcel had slight rips in it. As he opened the gift though, he noticed a little bit of candy that was sticking out. He managed to open the entire box and saw around a dozen types of candies that were surrounding an object covered in a disposable towel. He ignored it and began to open Ron's letter.

Dear Harry,

Happy Birthday! My entire family all decided to send you something this year (As you can tell by the 5 barnyard owls…). You can read those later but I just wanted to let you know that I sent you a bunch of candies from Fred and Georges's "business." They have all sorts of products ever since you gave them your tournament winnings. Anyway, if you notice the strange object in the center of the gift, that's a Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder. This would come in handy when were off on strange adventures with Hermione.

The Burrow was quiet these past few weeks. Dad, however, has been working double shifts at the Ministry so he can earn extra for our school supplies. Fred and Geroge are helping as well. Bill is still busy with their lives but would stop by to visit occasionally. Charlie is still in Romania dealing with dragons and as for Percy, he's still being a suck-up to Minister Fudge. Ginny and Mom have been pretty boring as well. They spend most of their days cleaning, cooking, or reading.m And as for me, well not much.

But besides that, I'll be in Diagon Alley on August 25th with Hermione. Write back to me to let me know if you're coming or not. It would be nice to see you again. Oh yeah! One more thing. Ginny sent you copies of the Daily Prophet dating back to the end of the last school year. But other than that, Happy Birthday!

Ron

Harry was quite happy at all the gifts that were sent to him. He opened the rest of his gifts for the next hour or two and was grateful for the things that were sent to him. Mr. and Mrs. Weasly gave him a new jacket, Ginny gave him copies of the Daily Prophet and a Holyhead Harpies badge, and the twins gave Harry a few new prototypes of inventions but Harry was feeling anxious to try them.

It was now 2:07 am in London, and Harry was just about to settle down for the night. As he laid down and slowly closed his emerald eyes, he started to dream about what it was like to be back at Hogwarts again. He imagined walking down the corridors of the castle, walking through the various stone walls that surrounded him. Suddenly, as he turned to the next corner, he noticed someone (a student perhaps) who was sitting down on the bench near the courtyard. They looked to be sobbing due to them having their faces covered with their light skin hands. As Harry got closer, he started to notice that the person was a girl. A very beautiful girl. She had long black hair and very light but soft and smooth looking skin and was wearing what looked to be school robes. Harry crept towards the girl as slowly as possible trying not to startle her. He laid his hand on her shoulder very gently and asked "Are you okay?" with a whisper. The mysterious girl turned around with a shocked expression on her face. At that instant, Harry recognized the crying girl. It was Cho Chang, the Ravenclaw Seeker, and Cedric Diggory's girlfriend or so he thought. Cho looked at Harry with a scared expression and jumped to her feet and ran from him. "Wait, Cho!" he yelled. Harry started to run after her and followed her through the various turns of the school. He slowly lost her when she turned to a new corner. Harry stopped and put his hands on his knees trying to catch his breath. As he sat down on the dirty floor and closed his eyes, he felt the groid start to shake. He looked around him in a panic and noticed the floor slowly fell piece by piece. The last of the ground fell with Harry on it and he started to yell for help. "AHHHHHHHHH!" he screamed With an instant flash, Harry awoke from his dream, sweating like a construction man. He looked at his clock next to his bed and noticed that an hour had passed since he closed his eyes. Harry started to control his breathing and in the corner of his eye, he noticed a grey owl standing on his window. He knew it wasn't Hermione's or the Weasly's since their owl was brown or black. He walked up to the owl with a confused look and noticed a letter tied to the owl. He slowly but gently united it from the owl's leg and gave it a treat. He then sat down at his desk and turned the lamp on. The young boy looked around the letter and saw nothing that caught his eye to whom the letter was from. As he opened the letter though, his eyebrows raised as he saw the initials of a certain someone. The initials were traced in excellent form in black ink and read...C.C.

Thank you again for reading this sample kind of story. Once again, feel free to comment on some things you liked and things I can improve on. LOOK OUT FOR CHAPTER 2 COMING SOON!
