Hey Folks - Here's the next installment of Lazy Sunday Mornings. This one isn't exactly about a Sunday morning but inspired by another of Cassie's super Darvey drawings colored by me. Harvey isn't exactly enamored by Donna's choice of client for him as she asks him to take on Whitman "Kalabos" Cyman (fictitious) a musician/singer who was once Donna's boyfriend. Let me know what you think. I enjoyed writing this one. Thank you again for all your responses. I feel truly loved when I receive them. Love - Carebearmaxi.
Making Up Is Hard To Do
"Harvey, stop! You're not listening to me," protested Donna to Harvey as they stood in the file room of Specter Litt Wheeler Williams. Donna backed up against the first row of metal shelves full of white boxes of files. Donna had taken refuge in there after the disagreement she and Harvey had had over a new client. The problem was that it was an old boyfriend of Donna's and Harvey did not want anything to do with him. One thing, Harvey did not handle musicians per se, and the second thing was that Harvey did not like the guy's attitude toward Donna.
"I'm sorry. Donna, but you know that I don't take crap from my clients. I'm sorry. I don't like the fact that he thinks he is still your boyfriend," Harvey responded stepping forward as Donna backed up. He reached out to touch her shoulder but she shook him off. She had never done that before.
"Here we go again! How do you think that makes me look to a prospective client?," Donna continued to shout near tears as Harvey kept trying to reach for her. His touch always made her weak. One touch, one kiss and all would be forgiven. They had never had that kind of relationship. Why start now when they were finally together? Harvey's insecurities aside, she did have her own; and all were not personal.
"Donna!" Harvey shouted as she walked away down another row of file boxes. He followed her.
"What exactly did I say to humiliate you? I know the meeting was-" Harvey shouting.
"Uncomfortable? Is that what you were going to say? As far as Whitman's behavior toward me, I think it was fine," she protested.
"Donna! The man was pawing you as if you belonged to him."
"Harvey, I moved away from his subtle move or did you not see?"
"What if I took him on as a client and he decided that he needed to see you more instead of me? I don't trust him, but, hey, if you want him to be my client, he's my client."
In a more reasonable tone of voice, Donna quietly said, "He's worth millions to this firm as a client. His retainer alone could allow for us to make improvements and create better opportunities for paralegals and support staff."
"You've done the research?" Harvey asked with an upturned eyebrow.
"Of course, I did the research. I'm not COO for nothing, you know," Donna reminded him as she moved forward a little closer to him backing away from the metal shelves.
"I know," Harvey voiced softly giving her his puppy-dog eyes.
Harvey wore only his shirt having discarded his jacket and tie about an hour ago when he thought he would be working in the office for a long night on some cases he had to know for court. Only a few minutes before, Donna came to him with her red tresses tied up in a messy bun wearing that violet caped dress showing that cleavage that Harvey knew made him hard in the middle of the day to ask him if he had made a decision about singing star Whitman "Kalabos" Cyman. Apparently, he had been Donna's former boyfriend long before she was employed at the D.A.'s office and ever knew Harvey.
When Harvey stated he did not think taking him as a client was a good idea, Donna protested fiercely. An argument ensued and became loud, so Donna ran off to the file room to cool down. Needless to say, she did not welcome Harvey when he followed her there loudly arguing why he did not want to take Whitman on as a client.
They stood in silence for a few minutes as they sized up each other. Donna was only thinking of the firm's advantages. She had already run the prospective client by Louis who agreed with Donna that Harvey would be the right lawyer for him. Louis did voice some reservations, but he accepted Donna's assurances that she could use her Donna power on him to make him see things her way.
Not quite. Donna felt Harvey was just acting insecure as he had previously when there was a difference of opinion. She thought they had gotten past that. Donna had no feelings for Whitman and she made that clear when she had received word through her mysterious sources that he was looking for representation. The "Kalabos" name in funk/pop music was what Michael Jordan was to basketball. Harvey was the best at handling these type of high strung, very wealthy types. Harvey had spread some of his client wealth around to the other partners including Alex and Samantha, but this one was right for Harvey. Donna only wished he would see through the veil of jealousy and the fact there was no need for any.
They came together. Donna looked up briefly and then turned her head away leaving Harvey's lips to meet her forehead and his hands to reach her arms. She put her arms around him and he pulled her close.
Harvey acquiesced. "Ok. I will take him on as a client for a trial period of three months. Just don't tell him that."
Donna looked up into his dark eyes as he continued to negotiate with his COO.
"Now, you will tell me if he tries anything, if he lays a hand on you, or if he even speaks to you inappropriately. Before you shake your head, yes, Donna, tell me you won't flirt with him."
Donna's eyes went wide with astonishment. "Flirt with him?! Is that what you think I do when I see prospective clients and employees or whatever? Flirt with them? You should know better than that, Harvey. If I flirt with anyone, it's not on purpose. It's my empathic power and I use it for gain not fun."
"Really?" Harvey asked tilting his head and smirking.
Donna put her full arms around him and whispered in his ear.
"You're the only one I flirt with. Always have, always will, Mr. Specter."
Laying a very soft almost not there kiss just underneath his hear, Donna turned and walked away. Just before she swayed her hips at the end of the aisle, she looked back at Harvey and winked.
Harvey, at her mercy, swiftly followed.
