I will be honest, when the Fantastic Beasts movie first came out I was so in love with the characters and the worldbuilding going on in America. However, after seeing the mess that was the Crimes of Grindelwald, and especially all the controversy kicked up about Johnny Depp being let go from the franchise, I feel like all my inspiration or desire to work on this story is just gone.
It's not only that. With Crimes of Grindelwald out now I truly have no idea where I want to take this story. I have no idea how to work around the framework of the story we've been given while putting my own spin on it and inserting my own characters, at least not in any kind of interesting way, and I don't want to spiral off into complete AU after following the events of the first movie.
I'm not totally writing off this story. Maybe once the third movie comes out and I have an idea of the point I need my characters to get to in order to complete their story arcs, I might come back and try and work out a new and different way to get them there. As it stands right now though, I've sat down multiple times to try and make some progress, only to come up dry after writing a sentence or two, I come back later, hate what I've written, start over, and then… lather, rinse, repeat.
I've felt bad about this story for a while, I know some people have really enjoyed it and have been waiting for an update, and I felt guilty for leaving you all hanging, so I decided this was the best way to handle things, at least for now.
Maybe when I have a better idea of where the story of Fantastic Beasts is going ultimately, I will come back and complete this story, but for now, it's very firmly going in the hiatus category for me while I work on other projects that I have more of a passion for, things I can actually make progress on and enjoy.
