Aurora smiled back at the shy boy. So this, was Harry Potter. She smiled even harder knowing Draco would be pissed when he found out that she had met him first. Aurora noted not to react excitedly to his introduction. She was sure the poor boy had gotten that all morning.
"Well, it is very nice to meet you Harry and Ron," Aurora replied back. She was surprised how easy it was for her to talk to them. Who would've known that Aurora Greengrass could be a natural at making friends. She was already pleased by her progress.
"Anything from the trolly dears?" A plump witch called out from outside the compartment. Aurora looked out hungrily. She had not eaten breakfast this morning due to nerves, but by eleven she was starving. Getting up along with Harry, they peered at their various options on the cart. After ordering various sweets from the trolly, Harry and Aurora took their seats across a gruntled Ron.
"Mum always forgets I don't like corned beef," he said looking dejectedly at a crumpled sandwich in his lap.
Aurora frowned. She knew the Weasleys were not very wealthy purebloods like her and Draco. He likely couldn't afford anything from the trolley, but she would not humiliate him by asking if he could afford any sweets.
"Here have some of mine," she said pointing at her small pile of wizard candy.
"Me too," added Harry. His pile was far larger than Aurora's. He grew up in the muggle world, it was only expected that he would be excited to purchase so much of it.
"Better yet, let's just pool all the candy together," suggested Aurora.
Opening the package to a Pumpkin Pasty, Ron began to explain to Harry Chocolate Frogs, and moving pictures. The boy was a wizard with absolutely no knowledge of the wizarding world. Aurora did find his ignorance quite amusing. She couldn't imagine living a muggle life herself. They were so peculiar and frankly, quite helpless.
Time passed fairly quickly on the train to Hogwarts, after Harry telling the two about his home life, and Ron introducing his pet rat, Scabbers to Aurora and Harry, the trio began to discuss what awaited them at Hogwarts.
"So what house do you want to be sorted in?" asked Ron twirling around a rather old wand in his hand. Aurora could tell it was a hand-me-down. A unicorn hair was coming out of the end and there was a small crack on the base of the wand. She made sure to duck down. Ron didn't know any spells yet, but that didn't mean he wouldn't take out her eye playing with his wand as he was waved it around like a baton.
Aurora was about to explain her complicated situation. She knew she had to be placed in Slytherin, but she was unsure if she was truly befit of those qualities. The notion of pissing her father off also appealed to her. His temper no longer made her feel on edge the farther the train moved away from home. She was saved from having offer an explanation when a bushy haired girl with warm brown eyes opened the door to the compartment.
"Has anyone seen a toad?" she asked authoritatively. "Neville's lost it."
Ron rolled his eyes and Aurora attempted to hide her giggle at his present resentment.
"We've already told you that we haven't seen it."
Aurora didn't recall the girl coming by earlier, but the boys must've been bothered by her getting on the train or in the hall before finding her in the compartment.
The girls eyes scanned the compartment briefly before her eyes landed on Ron's unsheathed wand pinched between this forefinger and thumb.
"Oh you're doing magic! Let's see it then!" she exclaimed excitingly. Ron unprepared for the spontaneous attention was taken aback but quickly regained his composure for his audience.
This ought to be good. They haven't had a day of schooling and she found it rather pitiful that Ron thought he could perform a spell. Perhaps it was something his twin brothers told him about. He told Aurora and Harry all about his prankster brothers. She was sure this would be another one of their practical jokes. Aurora hoped she would get to meet them soon. Fred and George would definitely know how to make her first term exciting.
"Alright. Sunshine, daisies, butter mellow, Turn this stupid fat rat yellow." He chanted whilst waving his wand around viciously.
Unsurprisingly to Aurora, nothing happened. She couldn't resist laughing, but it went unnoticed from the other girl's reaction.
"Are you sure that's a real spell? Well it's not a very good one now is it? Im so excited to be attending Hogwarts. I'm not from a wizarding family so imagine my surprise when I got my letter. But of course Hogwarts is the best school, I looked into all of the others. I really want to be in Gryffindor, Albus Dumbledore himself was in Gryffindor. Though I suppose Ravenclaw wouldn't be so bad. I'm Hermione Granger by the way."
"Nice to meet you Hermione," Aurora replied back to her. She was in no place to reject any possible friends unless she wanted to be loner first year. Or even worse, stuck with Malfoy. She nearly shuddered at the thought. Hermione didn't sound half bad in her opinion. She came across as a know-it-all, which Aurora was sure she was, but she was unbothered by it the way Ron was.
"Wouldn't quite say that," Ron mumbled under his breath. Harry kicked him from across the compartment in response.
"I'm Aurora Greengrass and this is Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley."
"Ron," Ron corrected.
"Well Neville and I need to find his toad. You guys better change soon, we're getting close to Hogwarts. You have some dirt on your nose. Did you know that?" Hermione said abruptly, pointing to Ron then left. Ron proceeded to scrub furiously at his nose, mumbling obscenities under his breath. This kid sure had quite the vocabulary. Aurora's mother never let her cuss, she didn't find it befitting of a young lady.
"She was nice" Aurora said as the compartment doors slid to a close. Ron cackled sarcastically in response.
"Bloody hell. I hope I'm not in the same house as her, that'd be bloody miserable." Ron complained.
"Where do you think you'll be sorted?" asked Harry to Ron.
"Gryffindor. My whole family has been sorted into there. Fred and George are in Gryffindor right now along with Percy. He's the annoying prefect. Ravenclaw wouldn't be too bad either, but the embarrassment of being sorted into Slytherin. I think I'd die right there."
Aurora flinched slightly at his words. She didn't want Ron to reject her friendship already at the possibility of her joining the Slytherin house. Though she wasn't so sure at this point if she wanted to join that house either. Getting up she announced she was going to change in the loo to give the boys privacy. Aurora agreed she would meet the boys again once the train stopped at Hogwarts.
Quickly making her way to the lavatories, she could hear Draco's obnoxious voice further along down the train corridor. The pompous idiot was bragging already. She rolled her eyes and continued on her way, unaware of the blonde staring at her as she opened the girls' room door.
After changing she exited the stall in her Hogwarts robes, and caught a glimpse of her reflection in the mirror. Aurora never thought of herself as vain, but to be around a large group of her peers for the first time, she was anxious and wanted to look her best. Smoothing down her skirt and messing with the hem, she admired the uniform. She rather liked how she looked as a student at Hogwarts and was beginning to be cautiously optimistic about her future at the school. She was debating what to do with her hair when a voice startled her.
"Admiring yourself are we?" Draco questioned smugly. His posture was relaxed, his back against the bathroom door and his arms crossed.
"What are you doing in here?" Aurora snapped. "This is the ladies' room you know." This boy had absolutely no sense of boundaries.
"Oh, is it? Then why are you in here?" he sneered.
Aurora was just beginning to enjoy herself, why did Draco always have to show up at the worse time.
"I don't blame you for looking at yourself though, those skirts are making my day," he responded nonchalantly whilst bending down slightly to get a better look at Aurora's legs.
She immediately wrapped her cloak tighter around herself to obscure his view in which he rolled his eyes in response.
"But of course, your face kills the vision."
"You shouldn't be in here Malfoy." She glared into those piercing gray eyes. She was pissed that he dared to enter the ladies' room. He had some audacity to look at her like that too. Malfoy was too conceited for his own good.
"I could report you, you know."
"Don't get your knickers in a twist, I'm just keeping tabs on you Greengrass, don't flatter yourself. Janus will be very angry if his perfect pet doesn't behave herself at school."
Aurora balled her hands into fists, fighting her urge to hit him square in the jaw. Her hatred of her father might be beat out for her hatred of Draco. The year was just starting and she couldn't get rid of the little slime ball. Knowing he would only continue to get more enjoyment from their banter, Aurora decided against it and attempted to push past him.
"Ah ah. You want to leave, give me a kiss first." Draco started again smirking. If he kept smirking maybe his lips would fall off his face Aurora hoped.
"You are slimy little weasel you git," she spat in his face. "I am not kissing you. I would never kiss you. I'd rather kiss the loo seat than you. You foul disgusting little-"
Finally agitated his relaxed posture stiffened. He rose from his dropped stance and wiped the spit off of his face, and cut her sentence short.
"Now you listen here Greengrass." He snapped grabbing her chin. "You might be two measly inches taller than me, but I'm still stronger than you. I'm the one whose been given the reins here from our fathers, and I'm the one whose going to make our families proud. You are just my ounce of help on the ride. My toy to control." Releasing her chin, he pushed her back, and Aurora fell onto the bathroom floor. Using her arms to brace herself, she was able to prevent herself from landing flat on her back, and instead fell onto her hindquarters. And with that, he left. Agitated, after a few moments, Aurora rose from the bathroom floor, dusted herself off, and followed out of the room after him. The train had finally come to a stop. She had arrived at Hogwarts.
