Diner Dad, Cute Kid, Coffee Addict, Star's Hollow's Girl
Chapter Seven
Rory was in the library checking out the latest releases when she saw a familiar young girl sitting at the table she walked over and smiled.
"Can I join you?" she asked not surprised to see April in the library either.
"If you want" she replied with a sigh. Rory looked at her.
"You okay?" she asked her
"I am fine" April replied faking a smile
"No you're not, you are doing the same fake smile mum does" Rory replied "Spill," the girl said knowing she was upset about something.
"I am worried about dad, he's not sleeping well, he is barely eating and all he does is work or sit on the sofa lost to the world, he won't go out for long or socialise and I am worried he's isolated" April admitted glad she had someone to tell her worries too.
"Luke too? Mum's not much better, she's so bad she has even stopped drinking coffee" Rory replied.
"What? Coffee?" April said shocked
"Coffee" Rory replied
"Coffee?" April went on
"Coffee," Rory said
"Coffee?" April said to shocked to say anything else
"I think we have established it's coffee" Rory replied. April sighed.
"It's funny he was fine...well not fine but he didn't seem to bad by the breakup then one-day last week out of nowhere he got way worse because of it" April replied going on with the problem.
"I can relate, during my first break-up at first I was fine, then one day it hit me...and that's it, I was a wreck, sometimes it takes a while to sink in" Rory replied explaining
"Is there not something we can do?" April asked
"No, break-ups are like grieving, yes the person you love hasn't died but you can't see them or be with them anymore, it is very similar, all we can do is support them, but as for making it better we can't" Rory explained knowing at her age April wasn't too wise about relationships.
"I just wish we could help them talk properly again, and we could do something" April replied. She had no idea at the time they would be talking again soon because she had no idea what was going to happen.
The next day, Lorelai was out with Rory and Christopher, exploring the town. They turned the corner out of their house and walked up the street, they were passing Kim's antiques when they saw April ride past on her bike, Lorelai and Rory lifted their hand to wave at her, and she waved back before riding off just as a car zoomed past them at full speed.
"What an idiot, learn to drive!" Rory shouted as they were almost thrown off the pavement.
"Could he be any closer?" Christopher asked wondering why the person was so far out in the road. They turned around to watch in shock shaking their heads so they all saw as the car drove past Luke's daughter at full speed, the wind mirror colliding with her handlebars as he was so far out, knocking her right off the bike before driving away.
"APRIL" Lorelai shouted her mothering instincts kicking in at an injured child she rushed over, Rory on her heels. They bend down seeing the girl was rolling her trouser leg up.
"Are you alright hun?" Lorelai said hoping she wasn't to badly injured. She then flinched and turned away as she saw blood.
"She doesn't like blood" Rory explained "That's a nasty cut" Rory replied. Lorelai turned back but kept her vision of the blood.
"Should I call your dad?" she asked her
"He's not here, he's gone to talk to my mum and meet her new husband as she wants me to start going over again" April replied as she pulled off her helmet, she wasn't crying but held her leg.
"Right come on back to our house, it's just up the road, I'll clean that cut-up," Lorelai said hating blood but knowing she would deal with it like she used to when Rory was little.
"I don't want to intrude..." April said
"You're coming, our house is nearest unless you want Mrs Kim to attend to you" Rory suggested
"I will come to yours thanks" April replied standing up. Rory picked up her bike and started wheeling it towards the house, Lorelai was about to put her arm around April to help her towards the house when Christopher spoke.
"Can I have a word?" he asked. Lorelai turned to look at him.
"Now?" she asked thinking it was a bad time.
"Yes now" he replied. The woman sighed and followed him a little way away, as she saw Rory put her arm around April as she rolled the bike with her other hand.
"Are you crazy?" Christopher started "She is your ex's kid," he said as if it was obvious what the problem was.
"So?" Lorelai replied
"So why are you letting the enemy in our house?" he asked her
"Oh for goodness Chris we arent fourteen anymore we are too old to have enemies, plus I don't care whose child she is, whether she was Kirk's or Taylor's or Lane's, I wouldn't leave a child bleeding on the street" Lorelai replied wondering why Christopher acted like a child so much.
"But once she's in the house, she and Luke are back in our lives, plus what if he gets angry, he doesn't want you and April together" Chris went on explaining
"I am willing to take that risk and how will that happen?" Lorelai asked "That driver was crazy, were lucky she wasn't hit into the road, I know you hate Luke but if you trust me at all you will let me do this" Lorelai told him.
"If you think it's right to go ahead, but once you have patched her up take her home, it's our home, we should be able to relax in it" he replied.
"I will do, don't you worry, now I have to go," Lorelai said as she ran to catch the girls up, not understanding why Christopher was so angry, she put her arm around April, relieving Rory so she could push the bike better, heading the short way home.
