"Her eyes showed not an ounce giving, feeling or even color, though I found her expressions filling me with such warmth and comfort. She was a phenomenon that brought both simplicity and complexity. Through the small bits she had told me, I knew that her past was full of adventure but also a thick layer of sadness and hurt. Even so through the sadness she fought the best she could to bring joy to those around her. It always bewildered me at the way she could overcome such emotions. Even so with the time we had come to know each other I began to sense it as an undertone. I knew the problems I faced couldn't compare in the least.
As I made my steps in her direction, I could just see her ears perk up. As I spoke her name, she turned around towards me with simple ease.
Setting her hands on the counter before her, she then went forth to tell me how her name wasn't Blythe, it was Blight. How that replaced a smile, brought about by my presence, went to be replaced with a downhearted expression. To hell with that was how I felt and I was unwilling to budge an inch as I mentioned how my will was made up a time ago. None of me cared if that wasn't your name, Blythe fits you much better. That name she had been given went against everything that she herself was. So of course it had to be changed to Blythe, the only plausible option. How her sadness was quickly replaced with a look of surprise, followed by a small smile, which helped me see I was proper in my speech. Why anyone would choose that name for her over such a small thing was beyond me. They really were the ones who couldn't see a thing.
Recovering from her slight shock she then asked what I needed, sending a spark to my memory. I explained to her that I was going to be heading out of town for a few days to deliver manuscripts, for important business within the house. I bit my tongue as I knew part of me wanted to invite her along but the other half knew full well how dangerous it was, on top of it being impossible that she would be allowed to leave.
None of me had doubts about her abilities to take care of herself but I was slightly surprised when she spoke sharply telling me to tell her the full truth.
Of course she would know I thought to myself laughing slightly. Her and her ears were not something that should be underestimated. Hesitate as I was, I just told her about the small home that teetered along the edge of the darkness, which had housed my grandfather along with me needing to take care of work with it.
Even so I did leave out a bit of the rest of the truth, for fear it would hurt her. A small forced smile cut her lips as I said my goodbye. Then as I left the small room I looked back seeing that her head was hanging down. What was going through that head of hers? Never would I know even with how much I wish that I had.
As I was making my rounds, I packed my bags into a small cart, all while checking how sturdy it was. Throwing the brisk sackcloth back over it, I walked to the front of the cart, pulling on the bag on my back. The cart was held by a Pokémon that looked similar to a horse. I believe the driver had called it a mudsdale. Even so I look at it with skeptical eyes as it was rugged with age, patches of fur missing along its side.
I guess seeing my look, the rider holding it spoke again of how it was a sturdy horse, especially for the route. Then how I was getting a great deal for where I was going and how no one else would even take me. I knew he spoke the truth, so I'm a gruf I heaved myself on to the cart. Opening my bag I did another check on my gear, my stress getting the better of me. Along with this I pulled a small blade and sheath and hooked to my waist and slipped on a small wristlet. Shuffling in my seat I looked over to the driver, a rifle sitting agains a notch between us. I was then hit again with the driver telling me how stupid this whole ordeal was. I'm not sure if he was just trying to psyche himself out or squeeze more money out of me.
Before answering I handed him a bag full of coins explaining how I didn't need to hear that again since this was an important ordeal. He mumbled something about Hunter as he looked inside the bag and shuffled it around. Then feeling it's weight, a smile crossing his face. Slapping my back, he told me how convincing I was and something about retirement. He absently scooted the rifle over to me as he mentioned that he could only go to the abyss edge. Tired of how much he clarified things, told him I knew and then we finally took off. The horse grumbled slightly before waking. Feeling a small breeze I looked to the horizon, dawn beginning to crack, before looking back at the town a pang of sadness filling me. I was leaving it for who knows how long, maybe even forever. But even so, I needed to find the truth. The entire truth."
Hope you enjoyed the chapter. I plan to do more of these readings throughout the story. So if you can let me know what you thought of it. Thanks again and until then peace out.
I'd also like to say a big thank VGS2 the sexy sausage for the awesome reviews. And also big thanks to everyone who has followed and favorite my story. I really appreciate it. Also I'm currently working on the next chapter. Life's been a bit crazy and limiting to my writing.
