I had a daydream about this, so I decided to write it out. Hope you enjoy!
11:27 p.m. on a cloudy half-moon night, there are a few rain droplets running down the windows
Charles looked at the ring, it was beautiful. He had bought it not too long ago. It was pricey, but he hoped it was worth it. What would Ellie think of it if he proposed to Henry? Ellie thought Henry and Charles were cute together, and she was super overprotective of them. He remembered she said once:
"Don't hurt my boys!"
And no one did. Charles shook his head and quietly laughed, looking back at the ring. Two matching ones. One for him, one for Henry. But Charles still had questions. When should he do it? Where should he do it? Charles had a few idea's, but he still wanted time to think about it. This would be a big event in his lifetime. He and Henry had been dating for about seven months now. Should he wait a little longer? Or was it around a good time? He didn't know, but he was planning to do it soon before Henry finds the rings he had. He kept them hidden, from both Henry and Ellie. But maybe he should tell Ellie that he was planning to propose to him? What if she could help? Charles thought he should tell Ellie. He silently walked out of his room, where Henry was sleeping, and walked into the living room. Ellie was there, she was looking at her phone. "Ellie! Can I talk to you for a second?" Charles asked. Ellie looked back at him. "Sure thing." She replied as Charles walked over and sat down next to her. "Okay, keep your voice down, Henry is asleep." Charles told Ellie as she nodded. "I have a plan, I want to..." Charles started, but trailed off. Man, this was hard. "Well, I, uh... I want to propose to Henry." He managed to say. Ellie's eyes widened. "Wow, really? Good for you! I was waiting for you to do something about it." Ellie was happy for him. "I assume you want help?" She finished. Charles nodded. "Oh man! I'm so excited!" She started up again. Charles laughed a bit and looked at her again. "What do you need help with?" She finally calmed down. "Everything, sorta." Charles replied. "I have two rings, however."
"Okay. Can you show me?" Ellie was excited. Charles nodded. "Don't tell Henry, though." Charles told her. "I swear I won't. I want this to be a surprise as much as you want it to be." Ellie was doing her best to keep herself from squealing in excitement, Charles could tell. He stood and silently walked back into his room. Henry was still asleep. He's so cute! Charles thought, taking the rings out from where he had hidden them. They were each in small, black boxes. He silently left his room, careful not to wake Henry. "Their inside of here." Charles hesitantly handed Ellie the boxes. "They look the same." Charles told Ellie again. Ellie opened one of the boxes. "Wow..." She was surprised, looking at the rings. "Are these made out of real diamonds?" She looked up at Charles, and Charles nodded. "Of course they are! Why wouldn't they be? I thought Henry would love a ring made from diamonds." Charles seemed confident. "Yeah, especially because he stole a expensive diamond awhile back." Ellie nodded, closing the box and handing both of them back to Charles. "Where do you plan to propose to him?" Ellie asked. "I dunno yet, somewhere special though." Charles confirmed to Ellie. "Hm..." Ellie said, thinking for a moment. "I had a few idea's for places, but do you have any?" Charles asked Ellie. "Huh, what were you thinking?" Ellie looked back at Charles. "Well, maybe I was thinking in that one spot behind the government base we all went to after defeating the toppats? I dunno, just somewhere special." Charles told Ellie. "Thats a good place. But when?" Ellie nodded, then asked. "I was thinking sometime around sunset or nighttime. Henry likes it when its later rather than earlier." Charles told Ellie. "Yeah, thats... thats a good idea!" Ellie told Charles. "You should do it soon, though. But don't be nervous." Ellie placed her arm around Charles' neck and onto his left shoulder and pulled him a bit closer. "You have my support." She nodded. "Thanks, Ellie." Charles nodded. "No problem." She'd reply.
Charles woke up the next morning, and Henry was still asleep, right next to him. Charles smiled, and sat up. He took off his ear muffs and put on his headphones. He left his room quietly, making sure not to wake up Henry, and he closed the door. "Good morning!" Charles heard Ellie's voice. "Morning." He replied. "Are you excited?" She asked. "Yeah, a little. But I'm nervous, too. Actually, no. I am excited!" Charles told her. "Excellent. Don't you worry, everything is gonna go great!" Ellie nodded. I hope so... Charles thought. Because this is one of my greatest plans possible.
It had been almost an hour, and Henry had woken up. Charles and Ellie just talked and Henry used sign language to join on the conversation. They were all great friends. Henry met Charles when he was going to infiltrate the Toppat clan's airship. Henry met Ellie when he was at The Wall. They made a good team, known as Triple Threat, to Henry, atleast. Charles had a plan, he was going to propose to him today. He felt confident after talking to Ellie about it. They didn't have any plans either. They usually just played video games together most of the time. Charles was really good at video games. Sometimes, they even played single-player games and watched the story play out. It was fun, now that the toppats were gone, they had a lot of time to kill. "Ellie, can I talk to you in private for a second?" Charles asked. "Yeah, sure thing." Ellie lit up a bit, Charles thought she knew what he wanted to talk about. "Come to my room." Charles said to Ellie. "I'll be right back, Henry." Charles told him. Henry nodded. Charles stood up and walked with Ellie into his room. "So, what did you wanna talk about?" Ellie asked Charles. "I'm gonna propose to Henry today." Charles told her. "Oh my gosh, yes! You should do it!" Ellie nodded, looking very excited. Charles nodded. "Yeah, I'm gonna do it at sunset."
"So around like, seven p.m.?" Ellie asked. "Yeah, around that time." Charles nodded again. "Oh my god, you have no idea how excited I am for you!" Ellie looked as if she couldn't contain her excitement. "Mhm." Was all Charles said. "Okay, let's head back out. I don't wanna keep Henry waiting for us." Charles looked at Ellie. "Okay, yeah." Ellie nodded back as they left Charles' room.
A few hours passed by and it was almost seven p.m. and Ellie was looking at Charles with excitement gleaming in her eyes. Charles sighed and looked at Henry. Henry looked a bit concerned at first, but quickly realized that Charles and Ellie were excited. "Hey Henry, can you come with me somewhere? There's something I want to show you." He asked him. Henry nodded. Ellie lit up. "Hold on, there's something I need to get from our room, wait here." Charles told Henry as Charles stood, walking to his room. He picked up the small black boxes and put them in his pocket. He got really nervous. Oh god, what if I mess up? He thought. No, no. Your gonna do just fine. (Dang, even I'm starting to legit feel anxious for him. Your gonna do great, Charles!)
"Okay Henry, let's go." Charles said, getting into his helicopter with Henry. Charles sat in the pilot's seat and started up his helicopter, getting into the air.
The sky was a golden orange, pink, and purple. The sunset was beautiful. Charles landed his helicopter at this spot. He took a deep breath and got outside of the helicopter with Henry. The view was amazing. "Great view, huh?" Charles asked Henry, looking at the sunset with Henry. Henry nodded. Charles braced himself for what he was about to do. He REALLY didn't want this to go wrong. "Hey, Henry, I brought you here because I wanted to tell you something. I've always loved you, ever since I picked you up from outside The Wall, you've never escaped my thoughts, ever since we started dating, and you escaped The Wall with Ellie, I've always just..." Charles began. Henry looked at him, smiling. "And, I have this one question for you..." Charles reached into his pocket and turned to Henry. Henry's eyes widened, his eyes glittered with joy. Charles braced himself again as he pulled out the little black box out of his pocket, kneeling in front of Henry, as he opened the box. "Will you marry me?"
Henry was staring at the glittering diamond ring and Charles back and forth, looking as if he were preparing to say something. "Yes!" Henry spoke. Charles got overwhelmed with joy for a few moments, he couldn't do anything in that short amount of time. Charles took the ring out of it's place in the box, and pushed it onto Henry's ring finger. Charles stood, closing the now empty box. "It's beautiful!" Henry said, looking at the ring that now belonged to him. Charles could tell Henry meant it. Henry only spoke when he was feeling a strong emotion. Like joy, shock, sadness, anger, and more. Charles squeezed his eyes shut for a minute, he felt something. Were those tears? It was. He was crying in joy. He was going to get married to what he thought was the love of his life. He blinked a few times. "Hah, sorry, I just-"
Henry pressed himself closer to Charles. Henry was smiling! This was for once in a while. Charles smiled and wrapped his arms around him and gazed at the sunset. Yes! I did it I did it I did it! I actually freaking did it! Charles was thinking, excited. Mission success.
Charles and Henry returned home. Henry hadn't left Charles' side since he proposed to him. Ellie swiftly turned to him. "Did ya do it!?"
Charles nodded, lifting his hand which now had the same diamond ring as Henry's on it. "Good job! I knew you could do it!" Ellie chirped. Charles nodded and looked at Henry. He couldn't wait for the wedding.
