A/N…
Friends, this is a short story, I am working on the second chapter already, will be posting it soon and hence keeping "Remember Me" on hold for few days, sorry for that… :))
The plot of the story is from DuoJenny, thank you love for trusting me with your story plot, much humbled, and there was one thing I needed to share with you as you wanted it with TRIO only but when I started writing it, I felt the need of another character in it, still hoping that you will like it… :-* And thank you once again for suggesting me this theme otherwise I may would have never written on it, you in a way have given me a sort of push, that boost, and maybe that's all I needed and hence I immediately started working on it because I knew somewhere that if I won't write it now, I may never get the motivation to write on it again, hopefully you won't be disappointed reading it, love you… :-*
Friends, this story is not in the favour or against any character or targeting any person, it is an issue, an unreasonable thought, a sick mentality, in real I don't know what it is… And please, it's a humble request, please, in your life be very careful with your words, if you cannot be nice or kind then just be quiet, it's far better than saying something, which you may forget the very next moment but the person to whom you said that may get scarred for life… And if it is you who was bruised by some ill-minded people, then don't let those poisonous stings poison your life, as life is too beautiful to be wasted by someone else's opinion, so take control of your life and be invincible and please always try to be humble and nice because you know how it feels to be treated un-nicely and harshly… Love you guys… :-*
And lastly, friends please no bashing please… :))
A sincere apology in advance if any of my word will hurt anyone, did not intend to… :-*
Thank you,
Regards,
DUO-MRF…
Cremation Ground…
Evening was slowly moving forward, spreading darkness around but it was nothing in comparison to the darkness already spread on the hearts of few souls, who were standing there quietly, shedding tears in silence, looking at the flames coming out from the pyre on which a person was lying, finally free of every hurt, every blame and every pain… Many eyes were shedding tears on his departure, many people were mourning on such young death but only few knew how much that person bore even in that small life, and maybe today was the day when he was finally relieved, finally free and hence, finally happy…
Soon following all the rituals, the Pandit jee gave the Kalash having the Asthian of that person in the hands of that only person, whose eyes were completely dry and who had performed the whole post-ritual ceremony without speaking a single word to anyone…
Hugging the Kalash near his heart, like was trying to feel the warmth of his half soul near him, he left from there in the same silence he had arrived and no one stopped him understanding well that what that person had lost today, it could never be compensated and no consoling words they would speak, could sooth his aching heart…
In Car…
Seeing him quietly sitting on the backseat of the car, his driver drove off from there… Slowly resting his head on the seat's headrest, he closed his eyes while absentmindedly creasing the Kalash in the same way he sometimes used to crease in his half-soul's hair, maybe for one last time was sending his loved one in a peaceful sleep, trying to tell the departed one that he was always loved and wanted, always…
When his mind slowly took him 23 years back on the day where…
Childcare Hospital…
Lobby…
Outside the Operation Theatre, an around five years old young boy was sitting looking excited and impatient because his mother was inside that room, to bring him that small baby which god had left there as an answer of his constant prayers, for a bhai of his own…
Running out of patience now…
The boy turning towards the figure sitting beside him, asked her while making face as: Daddi jee, maa ko bhai nany mein itni dail kun lg lahi hai…? (Getting worried, hurriedly asked her as…) Maa ny guum tou nae kl dia maila bhai…?
Daddi jee while trying to manage a smile on her face replied as: Abhijeet, room mein bohut sarey babies hoon gy na baita tou unn mein sy aap ka bhai dhondny mein time la raha hai aap ki maa ko, hmm…?
Abhijeet suggested her as: Daddi jee, hum bhi andel chalty hain, main dhond lun ga maila bhai ftt sy…
Daddi jee replied him softly as: Baita ander bchchy nahin jaty…
Abhijeet instantly argued as: Kun, maila bhai bhi tou chhota baby hai, woh kun andel hai phil…?
Daddi jee shook her head in disappointed smile thinking that how difficult it was to raise an intelligent child, still tried again as: Woh tou bohut chhota baby hai na baita, baatien nahin kerta woh iss liye woh room mein allowed hai, aap allowed nahin ho, theek hai…?
Abhijeet presented the solution as: Tou main chupp kl k jaon ga, mun py fingel lakh k…?
Daddi jee shook her head with: Nahin phir bhi allowed nahin ho gy aap kyun k aap bohut chhoty baby nahin ho…
Abhijeet frowned in frustration when Daddi jee took a relaxed sigh seeing him turning quiet when after few moments…
Abhijeet asked thoughtfully with: Daddi jee, blly allowdd hain andel…?
Daddi jee, whose attention had now again shifted towards her daughter-in-law's wellbeing, nodded absentmindedly as: Jee…
Abhijeet instantly exclaimed in joy as: Tou phil aap chali jaien andel maa ki help klny, main yahan baitha hoon achhy bchchy jaishy…
Daddi jee getting well now that the kid was having solution of every problem, turning her attention completely towards him, told him softly as: Daddi jee bhi ander nahin ja saktien Abhijeet, ander sirf maa jati hain, Baba bhi nahin… (Caringly placing hand on his cheek, told him as…) Abhijeet, Baba, Daddi jee, sb bahir baith k Maa aur baby k liye bhagwan jee sy pray krien gy k Maa jaldi sy Abhijeet ka bhai ly k wapis aa jaien, theek hai Daddi ki jaan…?
Abhijeet nodded agreeably in small smile and his Daddi jee placing a soft kiss near his eye, signaled him to pray and hence closing his eyes, Abhijeet prayed for his mother to return soon with his brother… After completing his prayer, opening his eyes he was going to tell about his prayer to his Daddi jee when noticing someone coming there in hurry…
Abhijeet jumped down from the bench in joy and ran towards the person with: Baba…!
Daddi jee too looked in the direction he ran and whispered worriedly as "Pradyuman" when now holding Abhijeet in his lap…
Pradyuman sir directly making his way towards his mother, asked her instantly in tension as: Maa, kya keh rahy hain doctors…? Kaisi hai Sakshi…?
Daddi jee slightly shook her head with: Condition theek nahin hai bahu ki, doctor ny kaha tha operation kerna ho ga foren tou main ny paper sign ker diye, iss samey operation chal raha hai, dua kro bs k sb theek ho…
Pradyuman sir just nodded worriedly while getting seated on a bench there while Abhijeet, who was a very good observer in comparison of other kids of his age, very well noticed that rose of tension in the atmosphere hence had kept silence still sitting in his father's lap…
When noticing the OT's red bulb turning off, making Abhijeet sit on the bench, they both stood up instantly exchanging a worried glance and soon seeing the doctor emerging from there…
Pradyuman sir hurriedly moved forward with: Renuka jee, Sakshi kaisi hai aur maira bchcha…? Operation kamyab raha na…?
Dr. Renuka replied in composed tone as: Aap ka bchcha theek hai bilkul, baita hua hai aur woh bilkul healthy hai… (Taking a momentary pause, added as…) But I am sorry, hum Sakshi ko nahin bcha skky… (Pradyuman sir looked at her in extreme disbelief, stepping back in shock while his mother was also looking in real shock-filled-pain where the doctor added as…) Main ny aap logon ko ussi samey samjhany ki koshish ki thi jb aap ka woh accident hua tha k aagy chal k complications ho sakti hain, iss liye behter tha k aap tabhi baby abort…
Daddi jee cut her in pain-filled-shock as: Doctor please…
Dr. Renuka apologized her with: I am sorry maa jee, maira maqsad aap ko takleef pohanchana nahin tha bilkul lekin uss samey Sakshi ki pregnancy initial stage py thi, sirf saat hafty hoye thy tb… Aur aaj uss k bchchy ka bch jana bhi kisi chamatkar sy kmm nahin hai… (Taking a momentary pause, she concluded with…) Operation k doran excessive bleeding k karen complications bohut berh gaien aur hum apni puri koshish k baad bhi Sakshi ko nahin bcha skky, I am really sorry for your loss…
And giving a consoling nod to Daddi jee she left from there…
When somehow composing herself for her son, Daddi jee approached Pradyuman sir, who had turned completely quiet now and…
Daddi jee fighting back her tears pressed his shoulder with: Pradyuman sambhalo khud ko baita, himmet kro, tumhien hi ab sb sambhalna ho ga…
And with teary eyes she gave a comforting rub near his shoulder but all she got in reply was a deep silence… When seeing the nurse emerging from the OT now, grabbing a small baby wrapped in a towel, Daddi jee wiping off the moisture from her face had left towards her and caringly grabbed the baby from her, sidewise giving her some money…
Placing a soft kiss on the baby's forehead, Daddi jee brought the baby near her son while thinking that the baby would be a medicine for her son's aching heart and…
Daddi jee still lovingly looking towards the baby, told him as: Pradyuman daikho issy, kitna pyara hai na yeh…
Pradyuman sir without looking at her or the baby replied in injured-whispered tone as: Yeh mujhy pyara nahin lg sakta maa, humien Renuka jee ki baat suun laini chahiye thi ussi samey, aaj issi k karen Sakshi mairy sath nahin, ager iss ka janam na hona hota tou mairi Sakshi aaj zinda hoti, zinda hoti woh…
Daddi jee, who was too shocked to listen that, replied in disbelief as: Pradyuman tum hosh mein tou ho, ptta bhi hai kya bol rahy ho tum…?
Pradyuman sir turning his gaze towards her, getting little hyper said little aloud as: Maar dia hai iss…
Daddi jee, glancing worriedly over Abhijeet, cut him in low pitched angry tone as: Pradyuman chup ker jao, aik shabd aur nahin, Abhijeet suun raha hai, yehi sb bithana chahty ho kya tum uss k kchchy dimagh mein, haan…?
Pradyuman sir without having any other word with her or even glancing at the baby had marched out from there while Daddi jee was still too shocked on his that ridiculous approach…
She always knew that how much Pradyuman sir loved his wife and how devoted she was towards him, they were a happy family blessed with an intelligent healthy son and were excited for the arrival of the new member of their family, after five years of countless prayers and wait…
When going towards the hospital for regular check-up, a drunk driver from behind had hit the car Pradyuman sir and Sakshi were sitting in little hardly and that loud jerk had caused complications in Sakshi's already difficult pregnancy but later on they had taken all the precautionary measures because no one wanted for the things to change such drastically but what they dreaded had happened…
Trying to compose her thoughts for now and talk to Pradyuman sir later, Daddi jee had looked towards Abhijeet to find him sitting there still looking confusingly in the direction his father had left…
Inhaling deeply…
Daddi jee moving forward had sat beside him with: Abhijeet…!
Abhijeet turning his attention towards her asked her confusingly as: Daddi jee, Baba ko kya hua…? Aul ks ny maal dia, kss ko…?
Daddi jee while trying to compose herself, replied him as: Aap ko ptta hai na Baba k kaam ka, aik bad uncle ny aik good uncle ko hurt kia hai tou Baba wahin gaye hain jaldi sy… (Abhijeet nodded believing on what he was told as that was something he had very frequently seen happening at his home while Daddi jee added as…) Aur Abhijeet buri baat hoti hai na baita, aap ko samjhaya hai na, brron ki baatien nahin suunty, hmm…?
Abhijeet instantly protested feeling blamed as: Main ny nae suni, Baba itni zool sy boly, main dll bhi gaya, hunh…
Daddi jee knowing well that he was saying right, dropped the topic with: Achha Okay, sorry… (And then trying to divert his mind, she smilingly showed him the little fella with…) Aur ab yeh daikho, aap ka bhai…
Abhijeet turning cheerful again, smiled beautifully seeing his bhai and looked at Daddi jee in innocent-excitement as: Daddi jee, main iss ko touch klon…? Looye ga tou nae…?
Daddi jee slightly shook her head with: Nahin, aap pyar sy touch kro gy na tou bhai bilkul nahin rooye ga…
Abhijeet nodded agreeably and with the purest form of love and care, he very softly touched the answer of his prayers' face, instantly turning into the happiest being in the whole universe and turning his twinkling gaze towards his Daddi jee…
Abhijeet asked her excitedly as: Daddi jee main bhai ko goudi mein lun…? (In the same breath, added while trying to assure her about the safety of the baby as…) Maa ny sheekhaya hai mujhy, shach…
Daddi jee nodded in composed smile, again remembering what the kids had lost today and no one of the two knew about it when her trance broke with…
Abhijeet, who was sitting there with crossed legs now, fully prepared of taking his brother in his lap, told her as: Daddi jee daikhien, goudi bn gae…
Daddi jee letting out a soft chuckle placed the small baby in his small lap, letting him feel the happiness of being an elder brother now…
When the same time noticing a stretcher coming out from the OT's now opened door and instantly knowing, who was on it…
Daddi jee turning her attention towards Abhijeet, told him as: Abhijeet, baita aap ny sirf bhai ko daikhna hai, yahan wahan nahin daikhna, bhai slip ho sakta hai iss tarhan aap ki goudi sy, theek hai…?
Abhijeet, too involved in loving his brother while constantly talking god knows what with him, nodded still without moving his gaze away from his brother's face and hence getting satisfied from his side, Daddi jee stood up and slowly left towards the stretcher which was now brought out of the OT…
And the car's honk slowly made him open his eyes and unknowingly he looked at the Kalash now present in his lap, secured in his both hands, just like the first time he had securely wrapped his brother in his lap…
A Home…
Inhaling deeply, he looked in front of him to find the car had reached on the gate of their home or maybe on the gate of the place they used to live and the security guard was now opening the gate for the car and soon the driver drove in…
After the car got parked, Abhijeet getting down from the car slowly walked in the home and without even him knowing, he ended up coming in his brother's room…
Daya's Room…
Closing and bolting the room door, Abhijeet turning towards the room had looked around like was hoping for that someone to come from somewhere denying the cruel reality that he was holding the Asthian of the same person, he wanted to see there alive…
Slowly moving forward like he was walking in some kind of trance, Abhijeet reached near his brother's bed and silently sat on it… Placing the Kalash on the bed, Abhijeet very caringly spread his hand on the pillow on which his brother used to place his head and he knew it that, that pillow was the best companion and secret-keeper of his brother which had absorbed countless tears of his brother and had heard his aching heart and soul… As his brother was quite selfish about his pain and liked to keep it in his heart only…
Abhijeet did not know when he had grabbed that pillow, when tears started falling down from his eyes like two streams and when that silent rain of salty water turned into a wild storm… Falling on his side while burying his face in the same pillow his brother had trusted for sharing his pain, he was just crying and crying, hugging the Kalash near his heart, he cried to the extent that tears were no more coming out from his eyes and his throat was aching like anything, turning his loud harsh cries into quiet hurtful sobs…
The door knocked, he heard it but did not move… The door knocked again and followed by a well-known voice, still he did not move… And the third time it was just knocked quietly replied by silence…
Abhijeet closed his eyes dropping two fresh drops that silently got absorbed in that pillow… He remembered how his brother had kept holding the Kalash having their Daddi jee's Asthian near his heart though he did not say a single word, he never said anything and that's what hurt his brother the most, him silently bearing everything…
Abhijeet clearly remembered like it happened yesterday when his Daddi jee had asked him about any suggestion for the baby's name and he enthusiastically suggested "Bhai" bringing a soft smile on his Daddi jee's face, and as the name his father had suggested for that innocent soul was already rejected by her hence as Abhijeet was named by his mother, she herself named the baby as "Daya" being the only mother Daya ever knew and from that day forward, Daya had started growing up under the love and affection of his Daddi jee and elder brother, longing for the love of his father, not understanding why he was always denied that, until he knew why…
The room Abhijeet was now present in and was now known as Daya's room was earlier Daddi jee's room who after Daya's birth always tried to keep Daya close to herself, to somehow compensate for the cold behaviour of her son towards him and Daya too was really attached with her, she was the only person in front of whom Daya sometimes pour his heart out but when he was around seven and Abhijeet was around twelve, Daddi jee had passed away following an illness, affecting immensely both kids, especially Daya who had turned completely quiet after that, speaking only when being spoken too…
Abhijeet remembered his last talk with his Daddi jee when Daddi jee was lying on the same bed he was lying now and on her both sides, her both grandsons were lying when…
After confirming that Daya was sleeping now…
Daddi jee called him softly as: Abhijeet…! (Abhijeet instantly tried to sit thinking she wanted something when Daddi jee hurriedly stopped him with…) Shh laity raho baita, aaram sy, Daya soo raha hai, ager woh uth gaya tou main aap sy baat nahin paon gi… (Abhijeet nodded understandably when she added in slow tone as…) Aap aap k Baba ka behaviour tou bachpan sy daikh rahy ho na Daya k sath…? Aur aap dono ko uss ki wajah bhi ptta hai… (And hearing silence in reply, she added in urging tone as…) Abhijeet, baita Daya ka koe dosh nahin…
Abhijeet cut her while getting restless as: Daddi jee please, main Baba nahin hoon, mujhy ptta hai Daya ka koe dosh nahin tha aur na hi main ny kabhi iss ko doshi mana hai…
Daddi jee appreciated him softly as: Shabash baita, shabash, kabhi nahin bhoolna aap yeh baat please, kabhi iss sy easey baat nahin kerna jaisy aap k Baba kerty hain…
Abhijeet replied injured-ly as: Woh baat hi kahan kerty hain iss sy Daddi jee…
Daddi jee feeling pain in his voice, placing hand on his head had placed a soft kiss there and then composing herself, told him as: Abhijeet, baita ab aap ko Daya ka pehly sy bhi zada khayal rakhna hai bchchy… (Taking a small pause, told him in balanced tone as…) Ab sy iss k paas sirf aap ho gy kyun k main ussi ghar mein ja rahi hoon jahan aap ki maa humien welcome krien gi…
Abhijeet getting shocked instantly sat on the bed while looking at her with teary eyes with: Daddi jee nahin, please nahin…
Daddi jee lovingly wiping off the fallen tears from his face, told him politely as: Roony ki permission hai lekin udaas rehny ki bilkul nahin… (Loving cupping his face, said softly as…) Daddi ki jaan hai na Daddi k ladly mein tou, hai na…? (Abhijeet feeling unable to control his tears hugged his Daddi jee while burying his face in his Daddi jee's shoulder, crying with low voice who was constantly rubbing her fingers in his head, telling him softly as…) Bahadur bn'nana hai mairy baity ny bohut, sb ko sambhalna hai ab aap ny, khas kr apny bhai ko… Daya ko bikharny nahin daina bilkul, promise…?
Abhijeet just nodded between his silent sobs, unable to speak anything though he never forgot his promise or his that conversation with her which was his last conversation with his Daddi jee…
As when their mother departed, Abhijeet was told that after listening to his prayer, god was so pleased with his mother for raising such a pure child that he offered his mother a home near his own home and she had accepted that offer and hence had left with bhagwan jee… Abhijeet got really excited and happy back then and wanted to go in the neighbourhood of his bhagwan jee who had given him his bhai but was told that he was too young to be allowed there, to be there, he needed to grow old and from that day, Abhijeet had started waiting to grow old until he realized where his mother actually went and what that story he was told, actually meant…
And today his Daddi jee was also saying about going in that home and since now he knew exactly where that would lead, he was not willing to let her go, he did not want that to happen as after their mother's departure, she was the mother he knew and the only mother Daya ever knew, her departure could hugely affect the lives of everyone in that home and it did affected when the next morning, both kids had opened their eyes but not their Daddi jee who had went into eternal peace, in her sleep…
Abhijeet wiping off his teary face had looked towards his brother who was sitting there in complete silence still holding his Daddi jee's cold hand in his both hands like some precious treasure and looking at her face, like was waiting for her to open her eyes and give him a life-filled smile and a kiss on his cheek, like she always used to do…
Abhijeet called him in composed tone as: Daya…! (His voice had started becoming teary now as…) Daya…!
But the latter was sitting there like he did not even know anyone else was present there, looking present in some other world now… Moving down from the bed, Abhijeet left towards his side and sitting next to him, had softly shake him while grabbing his shoulder, finally breaking his trance, who after looking around had looked at him with same silent eyes and then again turned his gaze at his Daddi jee's face…
Abhijeet gulping down moisture in his throat, asked him softly as: Daya, Daddi jee ka hath chhor doo, unhien jany doo please… (But still silence from the other side, Abhijeet while placing hand on his hands, tried to pull back his hands though not being harsh or forceful, with…) Daya please… (And his tears started falling down again but Daya was still present there like some statue… Abhijeet turning towards him, placing hand on his cheek, turned his face towards himself, telling him while fighting back his own tears as…) Daya roo lo, aik baar dil khol k roo lo… Daddi jee kehti thien na hamesha, roony ki permission hai, udaas rehny ki nahin, hmm…?
Daya was looking at him like the ice was slowly melting when the same time Pradyuman sir had entered in the room in hurry followed by Kaka, who had told him about their irreplaceable loss… Both kids' attentions had turned towards them when seeing him there, Daya's grip automatically loosened on his Daddi jee's hand and without saying anything he pulled back his hands and standing from there, had left inside the bathroom…
Abhijeet wiping off his teary eyes, still lying there had looked towards the Kalash and started talking with it like it was not it but he and was listening to him like he always used to…
Abhijeet whispered moistly as: Kisi k samny na sahi lekin akely mein bohut rooye thy na tum uss rooz Daya…? Main yahin tha, main ny suni sb aawazien tumhari, bohut dil bhi kia tumhien glly lgany ko, tumhary aansu saaf kerny ko lekin tumhien shaid tb tk akely roony ki aadat ho chuki thi… Daddi jee ki baat aaj sach ho gae lekin afsos bohut dair ho gae, bohut dair…
And he closed his eyes while cuddling himself and hugging the Kalash near his heart remembering the day when the reason they always tried to hide from Daya finally came in his knowledge…
Daya was nearly five and a half years old then and after always receiving cold attitude from his father's side, who always pretend like he did not even exist, he had naturally got very attached with the other three members of the home that included Kaka too… He was so talkative, lively, always chirping around, doing little innocent mischiefs that brought smiles on his loved ones faces…
Both brothers usually play cricket in the evening and Abhijeet was mostly on batting line because Daya used to get bored real soon there as there was no running in batting and standing there holding a bat was not his style… He loved to run and the way Abhijeet used to throw ball towards him, using minimum force so that he won't even accidentally get hurt, it made running for him nearly impossible on the batting line even though some times Abhijeet intentionally used to take a little longer to bring back the ball, by pretending looking for the ball or moving the ball little far by stealthily kicking it himself because Daya couldn't make big shots, hence Daya loved to do ulti-seedhi balling because with balling comes fielding and that's the real charm for him in cricket…
Today's evening too, both brothers were busy in playing cricket when Abhijeet made a shot, resulted the ball disappeared behind the bush and Abhijeet chuckled softly seeing Daya like an electric rabbit had run in the direction the ball fell, not having the slightest idea that soon his whole world was going to collapse on him…
As the ball fell near the study room's window of Pradyuman sir and while looking for the ball, Daya's ears stood up listening to his name from his father's mouth, which was something really new for him and hence now grabbing the ball in his hand, he excitedly stood near the window to find out what his father was talking about him when heard…
His Daddi jee saying frustrated-ly as: Pradyuman panch saal ho gaye hain lekin tumhary dimagh sy yeh baat nahin nikl rahi, aakhir tum sachchai kb daikho…
Pradyuman sir cut her angrily as: Sachchai yehi hai Maa jo main janta hoon aur aap maan nahin rahien, panch saal hoon ya panch soo saal, main yeh kabhi nahin bhool sakta k Daya k karen hi aaj Sakshi iss duniya mein nahin… Ager Daya ka janam na hua hota tou Sakshi aaj mairy sath hoti… Daya ny khoon kia hai apni maa ka… (The ball fell down from Daya's hand and was standing there frozen while listening as…) Mujhy na aaj koe lgaow hai Daya sy na aagy kabhi ho ga, mairy liye maira sirf aik hi baita hai aur woh hai Abhijeet, bs, mairy ghar mein tou Daya ki jagah ho sakti hai lekin mairy dil aur mairi zindagi mein kabhi nahin…
Daddi jee told him in pain-filled tone as: Tum pachhtao gy Pradyuman, aik rooz tum apny kahy inn alfaz py aur Daya k pertih apny rawiye py bohut pachhtao gy, bohut zada…
Pradyuman sir replied him coldly as: Jb woh samey aaye ga, tb ki tb daikh lien gy…
And there was a door banging sound, jerking Daya hardly who still looking shocked had turned to find Abhijeet standing just behind him who came there to look for him when he did not return and now was looking at him with pain-filled moist eyes while Daya's face was already wet with tears and without saying anything, he ran from there inside the home, in his room…
And from that day onward, Daya never remained the same, he was consoled by the people who loved him and who wanted him in their lives, wanted him to be happy, was told again and again that that was not his fault, but that innocent soul's fragile heart was bruised badly by that "Truth" that was harshly slapped on his face and no one's any effort was ever going to undo that…
And slowly that emotionally drained, mentally exhausted and physically tired broken person silently cried himself to sleep while the salty drops were still present on his eye-lashes…
