The story is a bit cliche. I'll try not to make Ty a douchebag.
Hi. My name is Tyler O'Ryan, more commonly known as Ty. Right now, I am sitting in the library with my best friend, Annabeth Jackson. Annabeth has blonde hair and stunning grey eyes. I plan to ask her out eventually, but I figure that I have a better shot if we are friends first.
I glance at her worksheet, and notice something. She had written Annabeth Chase at the top of the page, in her painstakingly printed handwriting. People often overlook their dyslexia in stories.
"Annabeth?"
"Hmm?"
"Isn't your last name Jackson?" I point out
"Oh. Right. I forgot" I can't tell if she is being sarcastic, because she doesn't seem sarcastic, but I don't think she would forget her name. She leans over to get a book, and her necklace comes undone, and falls to the floor. I bend to pick it up. It is a leather necklace with a bunch of multicolored beads with icons on them, a piece of red coral and three rings. The first one looks like a college ring, the second one is made of some sort of bronze with a blue crystal in the shape of an owl, and the last one was a wedding band with a swirl between two metals, one a dull grey and one sea green.
"What's this?" I ask her.
"A necklace. They give it to you at my summer camp. One bead for each summer." She responds
"What about the other stuff?"
"The college ring is from my father, and the other stuff is from a friend" Not entirely a lie, Percy is a friend, plus Leo and Hazel made the rings The look on her face told me that I should give it up.
"Okay. So how about this homework?" We worked for an hour, then went our separate ways.
The first class I had on Wednesdays was English. Without Annabeth.
"Okay, listen up. Today we have a new student. His name is Percy Jackson." The teacher said. Next to her was a boy with raven black hair and sea green eyes. His skin was a tan olive color. I was immediately jealous of him. He waved, then walked over to an empty seat in the back, and plopped down in it. The teacher went on with the lesson, and I became less jealous of him. That boy was dumb as a bag of rocks!
I was by my locker, chatting with Annabeth, when that Percy kid came over and put his hands over her eyes. Big mistake.
"Get. Off." She said firmly
"I will, but I have a riddle for you about my identity." He said, his voice sounding deeper, like he was trying to to get recognized.
"Come on, man. Let her go." I intervened.
"No Ty. It's fine, I like riddles. Anyway, I can take him."
"Okay, here is the riddle. I am an alias, used by three different people. The second two had the help of a baseball cap."
"Nobody! That is a weak riddle." Annabeth said, but it was clear she was enjoying it.
"Fine" He grinned "What is the capital of Bulgaria?"
"Sof... You are not the sphinx, don't pull that on me, Perseus" She took his hands off her eyes and spun around
"Don't call me that, Chase"
"I can call you what... My name's not Chase, Seaweed Brain"
"What do you mean..." He looked confused "Ohhhhh. All right then, Jackson"
"Don't call me that. It'll make it confusing if I call you Jackson too." She smiled evilly, as if thinking of something "I can call you guinea pig."
"Don't even go there" He warned. Their faces were getting closer together with every sentence. I clear my throat, and they jumped apart.
"Do you know him, Annabeth?" I was hoping that the fact that they had the same last name meant they were related, but the way they looked at each other indicated otherwise.
"Oh yeah. Ty, this is Percy Jackson. Percy, this is Tyler O'Ryan." Annabeth introduced me
"What are you doing here?" She asked Percy
"I missed you. We haven't seen each other in three weeks. Plus, camp is crazy, and when you live near it, you get pulled into the craziness."
"What happened at camp?" Annabeth asked urgently
"Oh, nothing bad. Just an insane prank war between Katie and Travis."
"Can't those two just make out already and be done with it?" She sighed
"No. I think it is gonna take the whole Aphrodite cabin to lock them in a closet. They plan to do it next week."
"Aphrodite cabin? Like the Greek goddess?" I interjected
"Yeah. Our camp is Greek myth-themed. You are in cabins based on your skills and personality." Percy said
"Wow. That's cool. Can I go?"
"No, sorry. You need to have Dyslexia and ADHD, plus a single parent." Annabeth said firmly "Well some people only have Dyslexia and a single parent, or ADHD and a single parent, but those are the general requirements."
"Oh. What cabin are you in?" I asked smiling, but inside I was quite disappointed. Camp would be a great way to get closer to Annabeth.
"Athena! For smarts and war strategy. Plus being good with owls." She said proudly. "Percy's in Poseidon. He's the only member."
"Except for Tyson" He interjected
"Yeah, but Tyson isn't really around much." The bell rang, and we went to Greek, which I had with Annabeth and apparently Percy. I speak fluent Greek, because my parents made me choose a language to learn when I was young, but the class is mostly going to be mythology moving forward.
In Greek, I sat on one side of Annabeth, and Percy on the other.
"Okay class, so far we have been learning basic Greek phrases, but today we will be talking about Mythology. Can anyone tell me an Olympian god or goddess and what they are the god of?"
A couple hands shot up, including Annabeth and Percy. They go to Greek camp I remembered.
"Yes, you. What's your name?" She pointed at Percy
"Percy, Ma'am. There is Zeus, King of the gods, He is also the god of the sky, and Husband to Hera. Then there's Hera, Queen of the gods, goddess of marriage and birth. Poseidon, ruler of the sea, and god of the sea, earthquakes, and horses." He smiled at this name "Demeter, goddess of farming and agriculture. And cereal. Athena, goddess of wisdom, war and weaving. Artemis, maiden goddess of the hunt, childbirth and chastity. She also runs a group of maiden hunters. Her twin brother, Apollo, god of the sun, medicine, archery, prophecy and a bunch of other things. Ares, god of war. Hermes, trade, thieves, travelers, sports, athletes, and border crossings. Hephaestus, god of fire, forge, masonry and metalworking. Aphrodite, goddess of love and passion. There is some debate over the 12th Olympian. It was originally Hestia, first born Olympian and goddess of the hearth, but she gave up her seat to Dionysus, god of wine." He finished, breathless.
"Very good. I only asked for one, but that'll do."
"He forgot Hades!" A girl in the back called out.
"Hades isn't an Olympian. He mostly just does his own thing in the underworld." Percy added.
"Yes, Percy is correct. I have written the Olympians up on the board, but today we will be talking about heros. Can anyone tell me a Greek hero?" I raised my hand.
"Hercules, son of Zeus." I said
"Very good." She said, but Percy and Annabeth's hands shot up. "Yes, Annabeth?"
"Actually, in Greek times it was Heracles, not Hercules, meaning 'Glory of Hera', because he would get his fame from Hera trying to ruin his life. It became 'Hercules' in Roman times, then stuck." She corrected
"Okay, I'll keep that in mind. Now, we are going to talk about a different hero. He his arguably the greatest Greek hero before Herc- Sorry, Heracles. He is well known as the slayer of Medusa. Does anyone know who it is? Yes, Annabeth?"
"Perseus." She said
"Aww, Annabeth, I appreciate you thinking I am one of the greatest greek heroes, but I think she's talking about Ancient greece." He joked
"Vlákas" She muttered, "Not you Seaweed brain, the hero Perseus. Son of Zeus. As in Perseus and Andromeda." I noticed that he flinched at the name, and Annabeth looked guilty.
"Yes, Annabeth is correct. The hero is indeed Perseus, and he married Andromeda. He then had nine children, and one of them, Electryon, had a daughter named Alcmene, who in turn gave birth to Heracles, making Perseus his great grandfather, and also his half-brother." The class went on like this, with Percy and Annabeth having all the answers, laughing at a few things, and flinching at others.
At lunch, I sat with Percy and Annabeth. They were across from me, holding hands.
"So you guys are dating?" I asked, and they smiled
"You could say that." Percy said, and my heart sunk. Well they can't have been together for long, because I've never heard of him. I've known Annabeth for almost a year.
"How long have you been together?"
"Almost 3 years" Annabeth said "But we've know each other for 6 or 7."
"How'd you meet?" My heart was sinking lower and lower, but then I realized that after so long, they'd probably get tired of each other.
"I got badly hurt on my first day of summer camp, and she helped nurse me back to health. Now that I think about it, why did you do that? Not very Annabeth-like." Percy grinned
"I thought you were a big three kid."
"I am a big three kid!"
"Don't let it get to you." I decided to interject
"What's a big three kid?" I asked
"Well, at the camp we go to, most of the people are from a specific family of sorts, and the big three are like the leaders of it. Really powerful." Annabeth said awkwardly
"I thought it was for kids with single parents."
"It is. The family Annabeth is talking about is the side that you didn't grow up with, that you don't know. You could say that they get around, Annabeth had like 11 half-siblings." Percy explained
"If my mother heard you saying that she 'gets around' she would murder you." Annabeth warned
"Well what's a better mortal friendly term for it?" He asked in Greek
"Mortal?" I asked. Percy jumped and Annabeth rolled her eyes.
"Just a nickname thing." He said nervously "So, you speak Greek?"
"Yeah. My parents made me learn it. What about you?"
"Well my dad's Greek, but I didn't learn it until I was 12, and Annabeth taught me." This Percy guy is hiding something, and I'll find out what it is.
