Chapter 2: Just another day at the Office

"So anyone ready for the next universe?", Flit asked the audience, after they had their fill on their meals.

"I'm in!", Yang enthusiastically raised her hand followed by Nora.

"So am I!", Ruby seconded.

"Excuse me, Mr. Flit, you mentioned before that it will be a military-esque one?", Ironwood asked, wanting to see where this is going.

"Indeed, General. But we're going to start over the basics for a better experience, is that okay with you?", Flit asked the general as he nodded.

"Okay, here we go", Flit called out as a flicker of his hand caused the screen to flash before them to show a different universe.

A satellite shows the world in the present day. Vacuo and Mistral are analyzed as war breaks out in the two areas.

The Audience were in intruiged whereas Phyrra and a few others were in shock. She didn't like the thought of war, much less on her homeland, and she could only hope that it gets resolved quickly.

Meanwhile, Cinder and Salem were interested on how these two kingdoms were at war within, taking notes on how their methods would help them sow fear and chaos within the homeland.

"Good news first", Blake called out, the world's in great shape. We've got a civil war in Mistral, government loyalists against Ultranationalist rebels, 15000 nukes at stake.

"Nukes?", Ruby asked, not knowing the term while others had the same thought.

"Short for Nuclear Warheads, a single bomb is capable of leveling a single city to ashes, and the total amount here can level up to half of Remnant if possible", Flit explained as the audience were in shock. The thought of having such weapons frightened them, and the amount shown here is capable of levelling all of Vale if possible. Watts was intruiged creation, wishing to know how to formulate those kind of weapons while Ironwood noted to himself that no such weapons must be used if development was possible, seeing it as a bane to humanity.

"Just another day at the office", a voice replied to the Lieutenant. That is when a man's profile appeared on screen.

"Arthur Watts. Currently the second most powerful man in Vacuo. Now word on the street is he's got the minerals to be top dog down there. Intel's keeping an eye on him.", Blake replied.

Ironwood snarled the traitor's profile. Not catching him was bad enough but seeing him as a very powerful man was even worse in this standards, if they are going for an operation that involves his elimination, he would be glad to see it on screen.

Watts on the other hand, smirked at his portrayal. Though he half-expected the smartest scientist in the world instead, his other self had the resourcess needed to aid Salem.

"And the bad news", her superior asked.

"We've got a new guy joining us today fresh out of Selection. Her name's Soap.", Blake answered as the satellite tracks Sgt. Summer "Soap" Rose in Beacon, Vale.

The adults are trying their best not to laugh at the older Rose's codename here whereas Summer's eye twitched. Salem and Cinder were holding their insides. Taiyang and Raven, to the surprise of many, were laughing loudly. The Arc parents only chuckled, while Ruby is restraining herself out of respect out for her mother as did the rest of her friends though Yang could barely hold on. Summer only sighed and hoped that things would be good on her portraiyal.

A drop of sweat went down from Flit's head.

["F.N.G."]

[Beacon, Vale]

[Sgt. "Soap" Rose]

[22nd SAS Regiment]

Sgt. "Soap" Rose is at an SAS training compound with Blake in Beacon, Vale.

"Good to see you mate. Take one of the rifles on the table.", Blake ordered as Soap went to pick up the firearm.

"Usually, we use pistols to new recruits but at this point, she seemed to be trained prior to selection", Ironwood noted as Winter nodded in confirmation.

"You know the drill. Go to station one and aim your rifle downrange.", Blake said, her tone seemingly bored at the job.

"You don't seem to enjoy the job, Blake", Yang said to her.

"I'd rather be a writer than a drilling instructor", Blake replied, seeing her alternate self seemingly worn out at this one.

"Hmm-hmm?", Yang smirked to the Faunus, and Blake immediatley blushed as she knew what Yang was talking about.

Ghira and Kali on the other hand, didn't really see Blake as a military type but this is an alternate reality so they get to see on how she actually functioned at this one.

"Yes ma'm", Summer complied as she walked to Station One

"Now aim your rifle down range.", Blake ordered as the recruit did son. "Now. Shoot each target, while aiming down your sights."

"Why does it look like that Mom hasn't known how to use a rifle?", Ruby asked.

"It is likely a practice drill for their soldiers to remember, it is also how we do it at Atlas. Knowing how to use it doesn't mean you don't need to practice.", Winter said to the younger Rose.

Summer shoots the targets one by one as a ring is alarmed at every target hit. "Okay lass, one more time while aiming down your sights."

Summer complied as she shoots the targets.

"Most important factor in using a rifle", Ironwood said.

"Lovely... Now, shoot at the targets while firing from the hip.", Blake ordered.

Soap shoots the targets from the hip. "Now I'm going to block the targets with a sheet of plywood. I want you to shoot the targets through the wood.", Blake said as Summer nodded.

Soap shoots the targets behind the wood, them going down as a result.

"That would only depend on what kind of material is a bullet to the obstacle, vice versa", Penny noted.

"Good. Bullets will penetrate thin, weak materials like wood, plaster and sheet metal.", Blake explained as she looked at the console. "Now I'm going to make the targets pop up one at a time. Hit all of them as fast as you can.", she said.

"Yes ma'm", Summer complied.

"As long as you're aiming near the target, you can snap onto them by repeatedly popping in and out of aiming down the sight.", Blake lectured.

"Mr Flit, is it possible to record this universe? This could be of good use for potential recruits for the Atlas Military", Ironwood asked the man, clearly impressed on its methods in lecturing new recruits.

"Be my guest. I'll just send the CD to you after this", Flit said to the general.

Soap shoots the targets quickly as they appear one by one. With skill and accuracy, all targets were neutralized in a short amount of time.

Roman whistled in admiration to the woman's skill. He has to go back practicing with his cane.

"Nice shot, Summer", Taiyang praised his second wife.

"Thanks, Taiyang", Summer replied.

"Proper good job lass! Now go get a side arm from the armory.", Blake ordered as Soap up a pistol. "Good. Now switch to your rifle.".Soap switched her weapon.

"Now pull out your side arm.", Blake ordered as Summer switched her weapon again.

"Remember - switching to your pistol is always faster than reloading.", Blake noted to her.

Those who wieled rifles or swords in the audience are thinking of getting a pistol because of the suggestion.

"All right Soap, come this way. Using your knife is even faster than switching to your pistol. Knife the watermelon.", Blake ordered as Soap slices the watermelon with her combat knife.

"Nice! Your fruit killing skills are remarkable! The Captain wants to see you.", Blake noted to the recruit.

"Are your kill fruits that skilled, mom?", Ruby asked.

"Well I do wield more than just baking materials I guess", Summer sheepishly replied.

Soap exits the armory and sprints across the grounds with a lot of trucks and vehicles. Behind a fence, a highway with military vehicles, buses and civilians cars can be seen. There is a parking lot with HMMWVs and a field with three Black Hawks, while another is making a circle around the base, landing at each turn and taking off again. Several S.A.S. men are waiting at an obstacle course. When approaching hangar number one, the door opens slowly and Summer enters. In the hanger, a group of soldiers are waiting. Two of them face the player and the two others turn back to see. Half of them wear gas masks, except for one Lieutenant who had distinctive white hair and the Captain, who had raven black hair and mild facial hair on the lower part of his face..

"It's the F.N.G. sir. Go easy on her sir, it's her first day in the regiment.", Corporal Winter Schnee said to Captain Qrow Branwen.

"Right. What the hell kind of name is Soap, eh? How'd a muppet like you pass selection?, Qrow asked the recruit as Sumner only scratched her head awkwardly.

"WHAT?!" Ironwood and Winter shouted in alarm. Qrow himself almost spilled his drink. Qrow was most certainly not cut out for a career in the military, not in Atlas or any of the Kingdoms. To learn that he outranked Winter, who was a specialist, was inconceivable to everyone who knew the alcoholic huntsman

Qrow, recovering from the previous revelation, smirked once more and smugly began. "Captain, huh? I'm starting to kinda like where this is going. What kind of salary do captains get, eh Jimmy? I got a couple debts to pay, and there's some booze I've always wanted to try."

Ironwood looked as if he were about to say something, most definitely something in disagreement, but was cut off by Winter. Who stood up, pointed a finger at the huntsman, and shouted. "THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL THAT DRUNKARD WOULD BE A CAPTAIN! LET ALONE A SOLDIER! ENTIRE MILITARIES WILL FALL IF HE JOINED ANY OF THEM!"

Everyone was rather taken aback by Winter's sudden outburst, even Flit was slightly surprised. He'd seen her in multiple universes before he invited them here, and she did not often lose her cool like she had right now. Winter, upon realising that everyone was looking at her, hastily corrected herself and turned to face her superior.

"General Ironwood, sir. I apologize for my unprofessional break in conduct." Winter said, returning to her usual cool and collected behaviour, though her face was flush with embarrassment

"Of course. Take a seat, Specialist Schnee." Ironwood replied, he himself not entirely sure how to react to his subordinate's explosion of emotion but is stern to the fact that Branwen is not military material.

Summer only elbowed Qrow at the arm for his seemingly bossy outlook. "You're gonna do me like that, Qrow?"

The Captain continued, "Soap, it's your turn for the C.Q.B. test. Everyone else head to observation. For this test you'll have to run the cargo ship solo in less than 60 seconds. Blake holds the current squadron record at 19 seconds. Good luck. Climb the ladder over there",

"Seems you're a bigshot Blakey", Yang complimented, impress on her record.

"I would like to see how Mrs. Rose performs at the course", Ironwood said, wanting to see how Summer would perform and this would be the highlight for the training video for the recruits.

Soap climbs the ladder to the top of the course. "Pick up that MP5 and four flashbangs.", Qrow ordered as Soap equips the inventory. But she picked up the second sidearm here.

"On my go, I want you to rope down to the deck and rush to position 1. After that you will storm down the stairs to position 2. Then hit positions 3 and 4, following my precise instructions at each position. Grab the rope when you're ready.", Qrow said as Summer keenly observed the course's route.

"That's a complicated one", Weiss said as the rest of her team nodded. Blake could only wonder how did she managed to finish the course in 19 seconds since it is unlikely for her to finish it in the real world.

Soap grabs the rope, slides down, and begins the course. "Go, go, go!", Qrow called out from the side, watching the monitors.

Soap comes to the "bridge" where she shot them down with her rifle at position one before she followed the red arrows and continues through the course.

Soap clears the room, passes a door and another door with Mess painted on it. Several other arrows are painted on the walls and on the floor. Qrow kept giving orders as Soap used a flashbang, causing targets to sprung as she quickly shot them with her rifle. Using the last of her bullets of her rifle at position 4, she pulled out her pistol to take down targets at position 5 in a rapid pace. Soap arrives at a door which is exactly the same as the other that was passed before where she threw a flashbang, through the door where two targets pop and took them down in one bullet.

"Final position go! Sprint to the finish!", Qrow called out as Soap sprints to a red circle painted on the floor. She turns to look at her score, with the record, 15.5 seconds.

"That's a new squadron record, Soap. Not bad at all.", Qrow remarked.

"Awesome!", Ruby cheered to her mother as did her family. Raven at least let out a smile at her teammate's performance.

"Now that is a specialist effectiveness", Winter noted, having been awed by Summer's speed and accuracy.

Soap walks to the monitors as Qrow briefed them of the operation. "Gentleman, the cargo-ship missionis a go. Get yourselves sorted out. Wheels up at 0200. Dismissed.". The screen then fades to black soon after.

"End of Part One, proceeding to Part Two", Flit called out as he waved his hand for a new screening.

"Is it the operation this time?", Ironwood asked, wanting to see how this goes and Flit only nodded on replied.

The satellite tracks and analyzes a cargo freighter ship in the middle of the sea..

"Bravo Team, the intel on this Op comes from our informantin Mistral... ...The package is aboard a medium freighter. Mistralian registration number 52775... There is a small crew and a security detail on board.", Qrow briefed to his team.

"Rules of engagement, Sir?", Blake asked. "Crew expendable.", was Qrow's only reply.

The satellite tracks Sgt. "Soap" Rose and the SAS team in a Black Hawk helicopter flying towards the ship.

["Crew Expendable"]

[Day 1 - 1:23:36]

[Somewhere near the sea of Mistral]

[Sgt. "Soap" Rose]

[22nd SAS Regiment]

The helicopter carrying Captain Branwen, Sgt. "Soap" Rose, Blake, Schnee and the SAS team flies towards the cargo ship. Qrow is smoking a cigar on the way.

"So you're a smoker than a drunkard? That's new", Raven remarked while Qrow merely rolled his eyes in response.

"It seems Mr. Branwen has little regard of his health even in another universe", Ozpin called out as Glynda nodded.

"I'm glad uncle Qrow is only a drunkard, I think the rooms would smoke all day if he was smoking instead of drinking", Yang teased as the audience chuckled, with Qrow grumbling and taking a drink from his flask.

"Baseplate, this is Hammer Two-Four. We have visual on the target. E.T.A sixty seconds.", the pilot said to command.

"Copy Two-Four.", the leader responded.

"It seems you are in charge of this one General", Winter said to her leader, recognizing the voice.

"Thirty seconds. Going dark.", the pilot said as they near the ship. The helicopter flies alongside the ship after twenty seconds. "Ten seconds. Radio check. Go to secure channel."

Qrow tosses out his cigar. The team gets ready by putting on their gas masks. Sgt. "Soap" Rose pulls out her MP5SD.

Qrow ordered to his team, "Lock and load."

"Never thought Qrow would say that", Taiyang said to Summer.

After ten seconds. They reach the bridge and main deck. "Green light! Go! Go! Go!", the pilot said, giving the signal to the team. Qrow, Soap, and and Schnee fast-rope down from helicopter, landing on the main deck and outside bridge with crew members inside.

"Weapons free", Qrow ordered via radio.

They take out the bridge members at the same time, "Bridge secure.", Winter said in confirmation.

"Hold your fire! Blake - stay in the bird till we secure the deck, over.", Qrow ordered via radio to his Liuetenant. "Roger that.", she replied.

Qrow kicks the bridge door open. The team make their way inside and down the stairs. "Squad on me! Stairs clear."

They go down the stairway to find a drunken crew member and they quickly kill him.

"No witnesses it seems", Roman noted.

"Bottoms up. Hallway clear!", Qrow motioned they enter the crew's quarters and kill two sleeping crew members. "Sweet dreams", Winter remarked.

"Crew quarters clear. Move up.", Qrow ordered as they move out. "Forward deck is clear! Green light on alpha, go!", the pilot signaled to them.

Blake,Velvet, and Coco rappel down from the helicopter and group up with Qrow. "Ready sir.", she informed her commander.

"Fan out. Three metre spread.", he ordered as.They move up the ship. They see two crew members with flashlights on patrol on a platform.

"Got two on the platform.", Blake motioned to her team. "I see 'em. Weapons free."

The team quickly dispatched the crew members. "Target neutralized.",Velvet said to them. They reach the end of the ship. They are engaged by crew members on the second floor. "We got company.", Blake said to her team.

"Hammer Two-Four, we got tangos on the 2nd floor.", Qrow said to the pilot as the helicopter loomed over them. "Copy, engaging."

Hammer Two-Four sprays its minigun across the floor, killing all enemies in a rapid phase. Two-Four takes off and heads back to base.

"Bravo Six, Hammer is at bingo fuel. We're buggin out. Big Bird will be on station for evac in ten.", the pilot informed.

"Copy Hammer. Scarlatina, Adele, cover our six. The rest of you, on me.", Qrow ordered. "Roger that.", Soap replied.

Velvet and Coco stay behind the watch for enemy crew members while the others stack up at a doorway. Blake pulls out a shotgun. "I like to keep this for close encounters."

"Way to pull the big guns, Blake!", Yang called out to her teammate.

Ironwood and Winter observed the operation in complete silence. So far everything is good, and their tactics are properly executed. The soldiers here would prove to be proper role-models for new recruits.

"Too right mate.", Winter replied as they stood tense in front of the door. "On my mark - go.", Qrow ordered before he opened the door. They enter inside.

"Check your corners! Move. Check those corners!"

"Clear left.", Blake motioned.

"Clear right.", Winter seconded.

"Hallway clear! Move up!", Qrow ordered.

"Clear right.", Winter said.

"Stairs clear.", Qrow said as they head down the stair where they were spotted by the ship's crew members. "Movement right.", Winter called out before they killed a small group of crew members at the end of the hall.

"Tango down.", Blake confirmed as they continued on and they stack up at a doorway. "Standby. On my go.", Qrow motioned. "Standing by", Winter said as peeks around the door, but moves away as hostile bullets almost hit her. Qrow throws a flashbang into the room. "Flashbang out. Go.". They clear the room and then move up and clear a catwalk. "Catwalk clear. Gotcha covered, move up.", Winter confirm and they clear the room.

Soap takes point as a hostile with a Desert Eagle appeared behind a crate and attempted to kill the operative. Soap knocked his gun away as she butted him on the chin with her rifle before shooting the hostile with her pistol. They stack up at a door to the next compartment. "Stack up."

"Ready sir.", Blake motioned as Qrow kicks open the door. "Go.", and they move up to the catwalk. "Movement right.", Blake signaled as they open fire on crew members on the opposite catwalk. "Move up!". They move across the catwalk and engage some hostiles as they come down the stairs. They clear the room. "Forward area clear.", Winter noted before Qrow ordered them to stack up at a door.

"Stand by. On my go", Qrow stated as they stood their ground.

Blake:One ready.

Winter:Two ready.

Soap: Three ready.

Qrow nods as he threw a flashbang into the next room. "On my mark - go.", he ordered as they move in and engage hostiles spread throughout the compartment. They clear the room. "Tango down.", Winter confirmed.

"Report- all clear?, Qrow called out to his team. "Roger that.", Blake confirmed.

Everyone watched in silence most of the time during its operation. They were all impressed how this team led by Qrow of all people managed to get to their objective without losing a single man yet. Raven inwardly wished her brother was this skilled in his leadership, Ironwood was impressed at their performance while Winter could not help but to respect the drunkard on his planning of the operation.

Blake gets a radiation reading from one of the crates at the end of the room. "I'm getting a strong reading sir. You might want to take a look at this.", she said as she opens the crate to reveal a nuclear device covered by a flag of Vacuo.

"Hmm... it's in Vacuan... Baseplate, this is Bravo Six. We've found it. Ready to secure package for transport.", Qrow said via radio.

"No time, Bravo Six. Two bogies headed your way fast. Grab what you can and get the hell outta there.", Baseplate warned to the team.

"Fast movers. Probably fighters. We'd better go.", Blake confirmed. "Soap, grab the manifest in the container. Move.", Qrow ordered as Soap grabs the manifest. "Alright - Everyone topside! Double time!"

They begin to head out where Qrow called out to his two squad members. "Scarlatina, Adele, what's your status?

"All ready in the helicopter sir. Enemy aircraft inbound...Shit! They've opened fire! Get out of there! Now!", Coco shouted on the radio just as an explosion erupts in the ship as the fighters open fire on the ship. The team falls to the ground briefly.

"Bravo Six! Come in! Bravo Six, what's your status?", the helicopter, callsign Big Bird tries to contact Qrow.

"Shit! What the hell happened?!", Winter cursed as she got up. The ship begins to tilt and sea water starts to flood into the ship. "The ship's sinking! We've got to go, now!", Blake shouted.

"Bravo Six, come in, damn it!", Big Bird called again in frustration. Qrow helps up Summer as the ship continued to sink.

"Big Bird, this is Bravo Six we're on our way out! On your feet, soldier! We are leaving! Get to the catwalks! Move move move!", Qrow ordered as they make their way topside. "Move your asses! Come on, let's go!", Blake shouted as they ran. They begin to make their way off the ship. They reach the catwalks. Water bursts in, making them lose balance. "Back on your feet! Let's go!", Qrow ordered. Parts of the comparment begin to fall apart all around them. "Watch yer head!", Winter shouted.

"Go! Go! Keep moving!"

The catwalk begins to break away. "It's breakin' away!", Blake called out as the team make pace. "Come on, come on!", Qrow called out. They enter the hallway, the pipes on the walls begin to burst. "Watch the pipes!", Blake warned. They continue moving through the ship as they near the decks.

"Talk to me Bravo Six, where the hell are you?!", Big Bird called out.

"Stand by. We're almost there!", Qrow responded as they move up the stairs out of lower hall. "Which way?! Which way to the helicopter?!", Winter shouted. "To the right to the right!", Qrow answered with distress.

"We're runnin' outta time! Come on! Let's go!", Blake called out as they continued to run. They turn to the right towards the exit. Objects begin to roll as the ship capsizes further. They managed to reach outside the decks. "Keep moving!"

"Where the hell is it?!"

The helicopter arrives and the team boarded just as it takes off as Soap was catching up to them. "Jump for it!", Winter shouted to Rose.

Soap jumps. She begins to lose her grip on the ramp but luckily Qrow grabs her and pulls her aboard. "Gotcha! We're all aboard! Go!"

"Roger that, we're outta here. Baseplate, this is Big Bird. Package secure, returning to base. Out.", the pilot confirmed as helicopter flies away as the ship sinks. And the scene fades to black.
