Chapter 9: Retaliation
"End of screening you guys", Aeralyn announced to the Audience, who were awed at the Bizarre Multiverse they had witnessed.
"THAT WAS AWESOME!", Yang happily yelled out after seeing how badass she was during the battle.
"The planning, cunning and resilience between two geniuses is splendid, I cannot deny it", Ozpin praised as Glynda pushed her glasses with a smile of approval.
"At least I went down like a boss, not sure about you, Emerald", Mercury snarked as she punched him in arm as he laughed.
"I honestly prefer that version of you, Mercury", Emerald shot back.
"I can't hate Mercury for what he did to Jaune and to Yang. But their battle was marvelous in several respects", Ren praised.
Aeralyn before she noticed Flit standing up and walking towards her. "Take, a break 'Lyn", Flit suggested, taking the remote from her. "I'll take over this time"
"Told you I didn't break it", Aeralyn sassed with a nod as she took a seat while munching a meat bun.
"Now that has been concluded, we do another screening before we take a break. There is a guest bedroom over there enough to accommodate all of you if you needed a shuteye. Now is everyone ready?", Flit announced as the students shouted "YES" before he smiled and pushed the button of the remote, flashing the screen once more.
The voice of Taiyang Xiao-Long narrated as Vale soldiers are shown searching the buildings for any surviving Faunus troops ."Our grip tightens around the black heart of Kuo Kuana. The Khan demands all to shed their last drop of blood in its defense. The old... the young... the weak. If they stand for Mernagerie... They die for Menagerie. Building by building... Room by room... One rat at a time.", he narrated as images Faunus prisoners hiding were being pulled out by Vale soldiers as the screen suddenly faded to black.
"This universe again...", Ironwood gritted his teeth at the possible outcomes of those images.
"What happened here?", Ozpin questioned Flit, who took a deep breath.
"Following the assassination of General Adam Taurus at the hands of Raven Branwen, Menagerie forces began to lose their ground where they lost the Battle of Beacon, until they were eventually driven back completely from Vale. Until then on, Menagerie forces were slowly pushed back as Vale forces liberated Vacuo and Vytal from their control until they stormed Menagerie, occupying almost the entire country until Kuo Kuana remained, unleashing their vengeance along the way.", Flit explained to them as the Faunus paled, remembering the atrocities their kind had committed back at Beacon, and they had the reason to retaliate for what they did.
Ghira, however, was not accepting that statement, not wanting to imagine their safe haven being turned into a warzone. "That can't be! Why didn't they just surrender?!", he asked Flit who only looked down as he continued.
"Sienna Khan was stubborn in fighting on, and most of the people have undying loyalty towards her and they followed her wishes. Those who tried to surrender or flee were shot, branding them as traitors of the state. At least one assassination on her had occured in an attempt by army officers to negotiate a truce with the Vale forces before the war could reach their homeland but failed when White Fang's secret police flushed out the conspirators and, owing to her own growing paranoia, ordered hundreds executed and thousands arrested on suspicion on being traitors", Flit explained as Ghira was fuming, remembering to take back the White Fang from her control before she could lead the White Fang in a darker path.
Weiss and Winter wondered if their father had anything to do with this, seeing company being responsible for the suffering of many Faunus citizens that drove them to violence. If that is the case, the two will not hesitate to oppose their father and his ideals.
Blake looked at the screen with distress, as her homeland was surrounded by vengeful Vale soldiers, Ruby put a hand on her shoulder to remind her it's not her fault. And she smiled at her re-assurance.

It was a dark and stormy night as Raven Branwen stood ready along with Taiyang and Pvt. Bartholomew Oobleck inside a building in Kuo Kuana, Menagerie. Her ears perked as she heard Taiyang calling her. "Raven, are you ready?", he asked to which she nodded as the three moved out where they entered the next room, where a Menagerie prisoner of war being interrogated by Vale soldiers.
"Don't kill me!", the prisoner begged as he was surrounded by vengeful Vale soldiers.
"He wants mercy!", a Vale soldier holding a rifle said.
"You do not deserve mercy!", a second Vale soldier spat as he slaps the prisoner.
"What mercy did you show to our people?!", another soldier said as he kicks the prisoner, sending him to the ground.
"Oh, god", Ruby looked away, not wanting to see how this goes.
"What are they gonna do to him?", Nora fearfully asked.
"What happens in war, I'd bet", Roman said to them.
"Please!", the prisoner begged as he cowered before the soldiers in front of him but a soldier lost it and loaded his rifle. "Time to die!", he declared as he aims his Mosin Nagant at the prisoner.
The students covered their eyes in anticipation while the adults were uneasy at what they're watching.
"Wait... Wait! He may help us!", a Vale soldier stopped his fellow comrade from shooting him.
"A tolerable solution", Ironwood remarked as the students opened their eyes once more.
But the soldier was not taking it. "Help us?!! He can die for us!", he declared as he shoots the prisoner, killing him while a soldier was holding his laughter
The students winced at the display.
"What's funny about that!?", Ruby yelled at the soldier from her seat, having just witnessed a cold-blooded murder of a prisoner.
"This is...this is terrible", Blake muttered out as Kali embraced her while Ghira looked regretful at his choice in leaving the White Fang in both realities..
"This is not justice...", Ironwood muttered out, clenching his fists at the sight.
"Will this cycle of hatred ever end?", Ozpin thought to himself at seeing the atrocities.
Everyone leaves the room and they proceded to the rooftop in silence until one of them spoke, "This is not war. This is murder!", Oobleck protested from behind.
"At least Oobleck still held his passion here", Ozpin lamented while the other soldiers seemed to act like barbarians at this one. He could not say the same to Taiyang.
"There will always be soldiers with a good heart as they serve", Winter defended Oobleck, not seeing him like his comrades.
"This is how you end a war, Oobleck!", Taiyang said to him as an incoming rocket hits a large group of letters on the roof, knocking some over.
"Sad but true", Cinder remarked while Salem nodded in approval.
Oobleck continued to protest, "This is madness! Our rockets are tearing the city apart!". But Taiyang ignored his words simply ordered. "Get inside."
The Vale soldiers goes inside and down a staircase. There are Menagerie soldiers unaware of their presence here. "Stop!... Shhhhh! Move quietly, take them by surprise.", he ordered as they moved quietly.
There is a group of Menagerie soldiers standing guard, obvious of their rather dire situation. One of them is using a telegraphic key, trying to send a message.
"The Vale soldiers keep on advancing", one of them spoke out as they spoke to one another.
"We are almost entirely surrounded"
"Our situation is dire."
"Is this what I am supposed to tell the General?"
"He should have figured this out by himself already ..."
"Except he is as arrogant as the Khan herself!"
"They will try to flood the underground tunnels as they fear the Vale forces will attempt to reach the Eastern sector this way."
"God be with us.", the soldier finally muttered.
"No, he won't", Mercury pointed out to the soldiers who stood ready behind their backs.
"Their situation is desperate", Winter assesed.
"Well, the Capital is surrounded by hundreds if not thousands of enemy soldiers with no hope for supply or reinforcement. Yep, desperate indeed", Qrow remarked.
Taiyang lay low as he and his men get ready. "Take them down, quickly. Ready?", He asked his men as they all readied their weapons.
"Cut them down! Kill them all!", Taiyang shouted as they ambushed the unsuspecting Menagerie soldiers. Raven threw a firebomb at them as it burned soldiers to death. A Menagerie soldier attempted to hit Raven with the butt of his rifle but Taiyang quickly pulled out a pistol and threw it at Raven, who shot the soldier dead in the head. Oobleck loosed the pin of his grenade before throwing it at the Menagerie soldiers, blowing them up until no one remained.
"Room clear!", Taiyang shouted to his group as they venture deeper into the building. As they did the building begins to crumble. "Look out!", a Vale soldier warned but Taiyang continued to move on.
"Watch your heads.", he simply ordered.
"The building is collapsing around us!", Oobleck exclaimed before they encounter a group of Menagerie soldiers. They quickly dispatched them and come across a Menagerie soldier preparing to kill a Vale prisoner of war.
"Killing me will not save you. My comrades show no mercy.", he warned with defiance while the Menagerie soldier smirked. "Your comrades are not here.", he replied as he prepared to kill the soldier but Raven sneaked up on him and slit his throat with her knife, and the soldier joined their squad.
The group ventures through and makes it to a large room with several soldiers, who fired back as it shot down several advancing Vale soldiers.
"The area is heavily defended! Raven, throw a Firebomb down there! Burn them!", Taiyang commanded as Raven lit her bottle with her lighter and throwing it towards the group, softening the resistance as she fired back with her MP40. The soldiers were taken care off but in the downstairs hallway, an MG42 covering the hallway mowed down several soldiers.
"MG42!", Oobleck warned as they went out of the line of
"Head on attack is impossible!", Taiyang exclaimed to the squad.
"And suicidal", Ironwood remarked.
"We'll keep fire on him!", Oobleck told them.
"Move upstairs!... Flank them from above!", Taiyang ordered as Raven and a few members of her squad engage the Menagerie soldiers until they found the nest, where they gunned down the machine gunner.
"Good work.", Taiyang complimed as the group make their way through a hallway covered in smoke. "Stay low. Smoke can steal your breath.", Taiyang warned his squad.
"I can barely see!", Oobleck complained.
"I can hardly breathe.", a Vale soldier pointed out as Taiyang scoffed.
"Complaining will not help... Just keep low. In Beacon, Raven and I crawled through many smoke filled buildings. DO you hear her complaining?", he asked the soldiers as they shook their heads as the group fight their way near the outside of the building.
"We are almost at the street!", Taiyang announced as they make their way outside. "Kuo Kuana will be in ruins by the time this war is over."
Ghira clenched his fist as the Vale soldiers wreaked havoc on their homeland that was created to escape discrimination from humans. Although he cannot deny the atrocities that they committed at Vale, this was not justice at all.
Blake was in tears as her homeland was being torn apart. Although she did leave it for Adam, it was still a part of her that she cherished within. And seeing it being destroyed was enough to break her. Kali embraced her daughter, grimacing on what they had seen.
The group go up the street toward the metro.
"Stay with the tanks! MG's up ahead! Third floor! Keep moving...", Taiyang commanded as Vale and Menagerie forced clashed, the former pushing back the latter further. A tank fires on abuilding, which killed most of the Menagerie soldiers and shellshocked Raven in the process.
"Make sure they are all dead.", Taiyang commanded with malice as Vale soldiers began to execute unarmed and wounded Menagerie soldiers laying on the ground.
Velvet turned away from the screen in tears as Coco consoled her, to which Flit led them out temporarily in order prevent her from being scarred mentally. Ozpin and Glynda frowned at this heinous act while Taiyang silently cursed himself for the actions he committed.
"Is war just all about murder?", Ruby muttered out..
"Various reasons, Ms. Rose. Most of the time, depending on how they saw it fit", Aeralyn said to her.
"An eye for an eye...", Raven muttered, disliking the actions the Vale soldiers undertook.
Mercury and Emerald were wide-eyed at this, not liking the merciless retaliation that was displayed to them. Cinder simply said. "The end justifies the means"
"Kill them all. Wipe this scum from the streets.", Taiyang commanded.
There are a few standing Menagerie soldiers desperately trying to open the entrance to the metro. Vale soldiers have lit Firebombs ready to throw at them. "Oobleck! What is going on?", he demanded an explanation.
"These men are trying to surrender.", the Private exclaimed as Taiyang was unimpressed before gesturing the surroundings.
"Look around you, Oobleck... Do you think these men will be denied their revenge? Death comes only two ways, fast or slow. Raven, it is your choice.", Taiyang said to his squadmate who aimed at the surrendering soldiers.
"Come on, mom. For once, please don't follow dad!", Yang muttered, not wanting to see her mother committing murder in cold blood.
"If she does, she won't be any different as the others", Summer said to them.
Raven was silently praying to herself that she wouldn't do it this time.
Raven took aim with her MP40 at the soldiers, but she lowered her rifle and shook her head in response and the Vale soldiers burn the surrendering soldiers with Firebombs.
"You should have shot them, Oobleck. It is only cruel to prolong an animal's suffering.", Taiyang berated as the soldiers burned to death. "Quickly, into the metro! This way!"
"I just wished that dad isn't a war freak...", Yang muttered out, disturbed by ther father's behaviour.
Oobleck pries the entrance open and Taiyang secures it open with a block of wood. "Split up. Cover both platforms."
Raven went right as they engaged numerous enemy soldiers. While fighting the Menagerie soldiers in the metro, a loud rumbling will cause the lights to turn off. "Shhhh! Stay where you are. Give your eyes a moment to adjust to the darkness.", Taiyang commanded as they moved forward.
"MG42 on the left platform!", a Vale soldier warned and in a few moments, their visibility improved.
"OPEN FIRE!!! Find your targets as soon as the lights come on.", Taiyang shouted to his men as hell went loose and the lights turn on in the metro. "There! On the platform!"
More Menagerie soldiers arrive in the station. Raven quickly ran forward, eliminating several soldiers with her MP40 before sliding down where she grabbed a soldier and unpinned his grenade belt before kicking him away towards his comrades before exploding, sending a rain of blood and gore towards her.
The students felt like vomitting at the sight while the adults flinched.
The battle continued on as Raven used her pistols to dispatch several riflemen and the Vale soldiers behind her advanced. "Cut them down! Move. The place is collapsing."
"We are going to be crushed... Or buried alive!", a Vale soldier warned.
"A combination of both, maybe?" Roman remarked.
"Move, faster!", Taiyang commanded as he gunned down a Menagerie soldier.
"MG on the right platform!", a comrade called out.
"We need to find a way out!", Oobleck yelled at the group.
"We will... There will be an exit at the other end of the platform! We will regroup there...", Taiyang commanded as more tremors happen and caused the lights turn off again.
"Stay where you are.", Taiyang instructed before more Menagerie troops appear at the end of the platform. "Send them to their graves!"
The group fight their way past the trains and find a gate that needs to be opened as Taiyang attempts to open it. "Keep firing! I need to get the gate open! It's stuck! Damn! Hold them back!"
The group returns fire while Taiyang beats on the door in an attempt to open it. There is a rumbling sound audible. "What is that noise?!", Oobleck called out as he returned fire.
"That doesn't look good", Yang uttered, afraid for her parents.
"They need to get out. And fast!", Jaune exasparatedly said.
"Return fire! Keep them off me!", Taiyang commanded as he continued to try and open the door. That is when rats begin running past the group.
"Okay, now that does not look good", Weiss fearfully said.
"Almost got it!", Taiyang grunted to his men.
"Hurry, Sergeant!", Oobleck shouted.
A huge wave of water comes straight towards them. "Raven! LOOK OUT!!!", Oobleck shouted.
"Got it!!", Taiyang shouted as it finally opened but the wave closed in.
"My God!!!", Oobleck shouted the wave hits the squad and the screen turns black.
