Morgan, whose name was already decided between her/his parents, wasn't revealed to friends and family at Pepper's birthday dinner, since she was still in a very recent stage of pregnancy. So it was decided that the news would be announced a few weeks later, but not too late, or the woman's belly would denounce them.
The couple never imagined their plan would be ruined by morning sickness.
- Chief, the car is readyooh my god! - Happy was suprised to enter the kitchen and find Pepper vomiting in the sink and Tony holding her hair.
- Hey, Hap! - he smiled.
- What's going on? Is she okay?
- She's great, don't worry.
- Sorry about that. - the woman said quietly, wiping her mouth with a paper that her husband handed her. Then she returned to the table to finish (or restart) her breakfast.
- Why are you guys acting like this is normal? - then he realized what was going on and his eyes widened. - Ohhhh she's pregnant! You're pregnant! Oh my gosh!
- Happy, calm down!
- Who else knows?
- No one! And we would like it to stay that way, so stop screaming!
- Okay, my bad. - he calmed down. - How long have you known this?
- Since my birthday. - Pepper said, before drinking some water.
- Yeah. And we were planning to tell everyone at the beginning of the second trimester. With a big party and everything.
- No, we weren't! - Pepper disagreed with a grimace.
- So you don't know if it's a boy or a girl, right?
- No.
- We don't - they said in unison.
- Can I feel it?
- Of course! - Pepper smiled, placing her glass on the table. Then Happy crouched down beside her and gently put his hand on her belly.
- Hi baby. This is Uncle Happy! I know you're just a bean and can't understand anything I say, but we're gonna be great friends! - he smiled excitedly and looked at Pepper, who had watery eyes. - Chief, you gonna ruin your makeup.
- It's waterproof... - she wiped away her tears. - I had to start using these often, because this happens all the time... - more tears appeared when she said.
- Do you really wanna go to work?
- She'll be fine in two minutes. Passion fruit or mango juice? - Tony handed her another napkin.
- Passion fruit, please... - she wiped her tears.
And then they continued their breakfast.
During the day at work, Pepper didn't experience any nausea. But she also avoided anything that might cause one by having videoconferences instead of locking herself in a room with dozens of different perfumes and scents; and eating only simple salads for lunch, so she wouldn't be surprised by the smell of fish or chicken. Due to that, obviously, she had to tell her assistant that she was pregnant. With that, two people already knew the big news. Bambi helped her with anything she could, both with the food and asking anyone who had an individual meeting with her boss to not use perfume, claiming the woman was allergic:
- I would love to be able to exhibit your company and this project at Expo Stark, but we canceled it due to the latest events...
- I understand.
- But I hope that the sponsorship will be enough to expand and promote your project.
- It is. Thank you very much. - the entrepreneur shook Pepper's hand and left the room. Soon after, Happy entered.
- Ready to go?
- Yeah, I'll just get my stuff...
- Let me do this. - the man ran to get the woman's folder and cell phone.
- God, you're just like Tony... - she complained. - Wanna help? Take me to an ice cream shop. I'm desperate for a chocolate one.
Arriving home, the woman went after her husband. And she found him in the garage, distracted with a hologram above a table on which rested a plate with the remains of a sandwich and an empty glass, dirty with green juice. Heavy rock played at the place, but the music was stopped as soon as she entered.
- Good to know, that you've been eating... - she walked over to him. - That sandwich is from today, right?
- It is. - Tony wrapped his arms around the woman and kissed her hair, before looking back at the hologram.
- What are you doing? - Pepper asked him, feeling something brush against her shoulder. Then, involuntarily, she raised her arm and caressed Gerald's head.
- Trying to find a way to fix this shit.
- And?
- Nothing. Because the only way to fix this shit is going back in time and time travel is impossible, even for me. - he said tiredly, making the holograms disappear with a simple gesture.
- But you're trying, and that's something. - she kissed him on the shoulder and placed her head there. - Tony.
- Yes?
- Why is the alpaca here?
- Why the alpaca would be he... GERALD! - he broke the hug with the woman and faced the alpaca, which was still receiving affection and didn't even pay attention. - What did I say about no alpacas in the garage? Come on, your place isn't here! Pep! - he looked at her, asking for help.
- Oh no, don't even start with this Pep thing. It's your alpaca, you deal with it. - she stopped caressing Gerald's head and walked towards the exit. - And after you deal with this, meet me upstairs! I was thinking of telling my parents about the baby, now that everyone already knows...
- Sure, honey! - Tony said quickly, focused on trying to get the attention of the alpaca, who sniffed some papers that were on the table. - Wait, everyone who? - he found it strange the words the woman used, but she was no longer there.
There would be no time to arrive for dinner at the Potts' house in Connecticut, so they had to tell the news by video call. Pepper's parents burst with joy and promised that they would visit them at the weekend, before ending the call and going to spread the big news to the whole family.
Then there was only one person left to tell the news:
- I can't believe I was the last one to know. - Rhodes said seriously, transmitted by the screen projected in front of Tony, who was preparing a bowl of ice cream.
- Actually, you were one of the first to know. After a lot of people.
- I'm your best friend!
- Literally the entire world doesn't know yet.
- You're a terrible friend.
- OK! Sorry. - Tony stopped pouring caramel sauce on the ice cream and looked at his friend. - When we find out the sex, you will be the first one to know.
- Fair enough. And I knew it, by the way. Pepper told me this morning, after Happy found out.
- You son of a…
- Ice cream before bed? - Pepper entered the kitchen, tying her robe.
- Err... - Tony looked like a child who knew that was in trouble. Then Rhodes waved a smile and hung up. - Yeah…
- Great idea! - she stole the bowl and brought the spoon to her mouth. - Thank you darling! - she smiled and left, leaving Tony with the task of having to prepare another bowl of ice cream for him.
