Nouns and Adjectives

"Beautiful, precise, gentle, fast, powerful, the best —"

"A noun," Remus suddenly said.

James looked up. "What, Moony?"

"A noun, James. You need a noun in there." Seeing that a confused look persisted on James' face, Remus added, "Every sentence must include nouns and verbs in order to be a complete thought. Adjectives can rarely be used without a noun."

"Oh..."

"So?" Remus smiled. "What's the noun?"

With a quick, "My broomstick! I was obviously talking about my broomstick," James resumed polishing it.

...

"Evans?"

"No, Potter," she replied, "I'm not going out with you. And I really don't have time for this now."

"But... That's not what I was going to say." Not yet, at least. Not before preparing the ground.

Bemused, she asked, "Really? Then, what is it, Potter?" her voice genuinely curious.

James suppressed his grin and looked into her eyes. Getting lost into those emerald green orbs, he exhaled, "You're a noun."

"What?"

"You heard me. You're a noun while I'm an adjective."

As her expression turned flabbergasted, he ran away.

Now he understood it. He was an adjective, an excellent adjective, even.

But he needed to be accompanied by a noun.

And that noun... He had already found it.

He just had to make her understand it.
