Next chapter is up! Quite an interesting night they had. I think Frieza is starting to learn the hard way that Lily is not one to back down. It's quite clear, if he continues to talk down to her; she will just throw it right back in his face. As stated earlier, Lily doesn't take crap from anyone. She's quite the headstrong one. She would have to be, considering who she has to travel with. Enjoy :)
Lily was awakened to being roughly shaken by the shoulders. She groaned and opened her eyes and glared at Frieza.
"Get up, we need to get going." He said.
She looked out the small window to see the sun was barely up. Meaning, it must have been the crack of dawn. 'Was he kidding? It's still way too early.' Even more so for her. She was never really a morning person. It took Lily a while to get use to her early morning schedule for work as it is. Even then, she still dragged her feet until she had to leave in the morning.
"Give me one more hour." She groans and rolls back over.
He was not amused and getting impatient. So he put his hands under the thin mattress and tipped it up so high she rolled off it and onto the floor.
"What the fuck is your problem you ass?!" She yelled.
"I said it was time to get up. Not my fault you are lazy and don't listen." He stated.
Lily scowled. "Fine Lizard Boy, let's go follow the yellow brick road. But if you do something like that again. I'll tie that tail of yours into a bow."
He didn't understand the first term. But got annoyed about the tail comment. "Keep it up, and I'll ensure you a broken jaw. If that means it will shut you up for the rest of this trip."
She gave him a mock salute and started packing up her things. Along with the remaining supplies they would need in case they hit anymore trouble out there.
The sun was barely up yet and it was already unusually warm. It must be Summer here still. Nevertheless, they set out in the direction the town was in. They remained silent for most the morning much to his relief. Around noon, Lily stopped momentarily again to grab some water.
"You know if we keep stopping like this, it's going to take twice as long to get to our destination." He complained.
By now Lily was sweating bullets from the heat that was getting worse as afternoon approached. The lightweight training outfit Whis had created for her always worked well enough before. But then again, even on Lord Beerus's World it wasn't nearly this hot. She also finished the last of the little food she found last night earlier this morning and was starting to get hungry again.
"Are you telling me this heat doesn't bother you at all?" She said, between pants.
"No why should it? My kind can fair well in extreme weather conditions. Both hot and freezing temperatures." Frieza said, as if it were no big deal.
'The warm climate statement did make some sense since she always believed Frieza to be reptilian like. Though the rest of that statement with cold weather baffled her. Seeing she knew reptiles don't do well in the cold at all.
"Your not even a little thirsty? I saw you take a couple small sips earlier and that was it." Lily continued.
He sighed. "How many times do I need to tell you? I can fair on far less than your kind can. You might as well get use to having little reserves. Because I doubt we will be lucky enough to find anymore abandoned dwellings throughout this journey. We also don't know when and if we will hit civilization again after we reach this establishment. Need I also add, that that sack you carry around doesn't look like it's big enough to carry large amounts of supplies as it is."
Sadly, he had a point. She was too engaged with their dangerous struggles last night. That it didn't occur to her at the time, of this new potentially big problem. "We will have to make due somehow. It's true, humans can go without three meals a day if they have to. But no matter how much we train our bodies. We're simply not meant to go days at a time without food, water, or sleep." She said.
'He was about to say that's her problem, not his. But then remembered if she were to become weakened from lack of sustenance then she could die. Such a frail race humans are. To his distaste, he had to be tethered to one as a sick joke by a lunatic with a staff.' "Listen for today we need to keep going. Once we arrive you can get more supplies...and hopefully directions to this sacred area that crazed sorcerer was going on about. The sooner we get there the better." He replied.
"He also said it was on the other side of this world. If that's the case, then traveling there by foot will take us forever to get there. Maybe once we get to...what did Carter call it, Elysium? They can lend us a vehicle, better yet a plane." She said.
"Hmph, if only we had my ship. We could get there in no time flat." He mutters.
"How much longer do you think it may take to get to Elysium?" She asked.
He rubs his chin. "It shouldn't be that much longer. That is, if you don't keep stopping and delaying us."
She rolls her eyes. "I can already tell this is shaping up to be a great trip. Your going to be a blast to camp with. I can hardly wait."
'If he could make it another night without strangling her in her sleep. That would be the highlight of this quest.' He thought, with a pulsing vein on the side of his temple and a twitching eye.
They trekked on further for what felt like the next couple hours. By this time Lily was huffing and puffing. She was also getting low on water. But tried not to show how hot and exhausted she was getting. She didn't want to hear him bitch at her again. Surprisingly though, this time it wasn't her that decided to stop.
"Wait." He said. "Do you not hear it?"
At first she didn't know what he meant. But there it was, quite faint. It was the sound of running water from a brook or a stream. Yes, it was unmistakable now. There's water not far from their position. Best part is, it sounded like it was a few yards ahead of their direction. Despite being hot and tired. Lily picked up the pace and continued forward. Frieza was just a couple strides ahead of her. After about another twenty minutes, they found a medium size stream. It was taking in water from a small brook. Which emptied out into a small narrow river beyond the stream.
She tested it with small sips and found it to be fresh and clean. She filled up her stainless steel water bottle to full capacity and capped it. Then doused her face and neck with water to cool off. If she didn't remember who she was traveling with she would've dove right in, then and there. But she knew he'd get impatient and soon tell her to hurry up. No sooner did she finish that thought, Lily heard a disturbance in the water to her right. It was Frieza, he went into the stream. He waded in until the water level came up to mid-stomach on him.
Guess it was a bit deeper than she thought. "Yo, what are you doing? You kept bugging me to keep going. Yet here you are taking a bath."
"Silence girl, I only came in here to wash off the grime and dried blood. It was starting to get itchy." He said.
She figured she'd tease him. "Is that all? Because you were starting to smell pretty ripe. Almost like an old gym bag sitting in a full Summer Sun. If it weren't so hot, I would've started holding my breath those last few miles back."
He was too relaxed by the refreshing water to care about the teasing.
He had his eyes closed and grinned. "Why don't you follow my example? If anyone reeks around these parts, it's you. With your body's constant need to sweat. You were starting to smell like one of your planet's domestic farm animals."
"For that, I'm going to stay right here on this bank and wait for you. Why wash away a smell that's going to thoroughly annoy you for the rest of the hike." She replied with a big smile.
He opened his eyes and made a few steps toward her. She didn't know what just happened. First she was standing on shore and he was standing a couple feet away. The next, she was in the water. She broke the surface sputtering water. 'The bastard pushed me in with his tail!'
He started laughing at her soaked state. "There was that so difficult? And look, most of the offensive odor is gone already."
He went from laughing to coughing when he got a mouth full of water from her splashing him. Now it was her turn to laugh. She managed to splash him a couple more times before he grabbed her shoulders and pushed her under. She came up after a few seconds rubbing her eyes.
"You forgot to wash behind your ears." He teased.
Trying to keep up the playful banter she tried to jump on him and force him under too. She should've known it be futile. He hardly budged even when she tried throwing her weight into it. He didn't know whether to laugh at the straining faces she made. Or her hilarious attempts to force him under. The last attempt is what did him in. When she moved to jump him he quickly moved out of the way. Which resulted in her doing a comical belly flop with Lily waving her arms everywhere.
He can't remember the last time he laughed so hard and so much. But her antics were just so highly amusing to him. Eventually, she too gave in and started to laugh a little. After a few moments they were able to compose themselves.
"Now that we are thoroughly cooled off I think we should be on our way." He stated.
She smirked. "Oh, so you did do it to cool off. You really were bullshitting when you said you weren't getting hot."
He didn't say a word. Just gave her one last splash to the face with his tail and exited the stream. She smiled while shaking her head. Then followed him out of the water. She took one last sip and packed up her water bottle. She didn't bother with drying herself off with the blanket. It was hot enough that she'd let herself air dry. It would keep her cooler longer that way.
"Ready? Let's move on." He said.
Just like that, all his playfulness before turned back into a mask of indifference. She sighed. 'Well it's a start at least.'
Sorry, if it seemed this chapter dragged a bit in the beginning. Though I made up for it by adding the cute little water scene. As serious and arrogant Frieza tends to be. I'd like to think it's possible for him to have a somewhat playful side that pops up every now and then. Who knows, you may see a little more of it in future chapters. Not right away of course. He still has a long way to go. In the next few chapters, he may go back to being a jerk to Lily. Until Next Time ;)
