The next chapter is up! Looks like they may make it to the town know as Elysium in one piece. Can't imagine what the interactions may be like between them and it's citizens. Enjoy :)
The stream ended up being closer to their destination than they originally thought. Good news is they only walked on for another hour and a half. Finally, making it to the edge of the woods and into the clearing. The bad news, it looked to be another two and a half to three miles away. Frieza didn't seem to mind, but Lily had enough of walking for the day. It was a lot bigger than she thought it be. Even from the edge of the woods you can see quite a few tall buildings mixed in with smaller ones and homes.
Judging by the position of the sun it must've been around three in the afternoon. Lily's iphone had a time on it. But obviously, it was the wrong time seeing as her phone flashed 11:13pm. The battery was still mysteriously charged to one hundred percent. It didn't change the fact that she had no signal. They kept going, not wanting to be out in the open any longer. It was about another two hours before they made it there.
Strangely enough, they couldn't get in though. There was a fifteen to twenty foot high wall or barricade in front of it. Which appeared to stretch as far as she could see on both sides. It must've surrounded most, if not the whole town. Not only was it built to keep intruders out. But looked like it was built to maim or kill anyone who tried getting in.
The wall in itself was transparent. It had these thick metal posts a few yards apart. In between them, was this light blue thin plasma looking barrier. How did Lily know it was dangerous? It was because only moments ago a poor unfortunate bird flew into it. Next thing any of them knew, there was a bright flash with a cracking sound. Where the bird once was was some smoke and a couple of stray burnt feathers dropped to the ground.
"They must use this high tech barricade to keep those atrocious creatures out." He said.
"That's great and all. Now how are we going to get in? It looks to stretch on for miles in both directions." She said in a slight panic.
They both tried to check for possible openings and entrances but had no luck. After about a half hour, another one of those hover cars came out of the field from the west and approached the town barrier. She ran over to get their attention while Frieza just walked behind. She barely got there in time.
"Hey excuse me! How do you get in?" Lily asked.
The passengers were a middle aged man and woman. "What do you mean how do you get in? Everyone knows how to get in."
"We are not from around here and unsure of how it works." Lily said.
The woman just looked at her funny. "Is this a joke? Every single population that resides here on New Earth has the protective barricades all around their populace. Unless...your not a resident of this world?"
Lily was getting impatient yet again. "Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. We are not from around here. So can you please tell us how we can gain entrance? We've had a long day and a night from hell. It took us quite sometime to get here. We journeyed here on foot from the woods."
The woman's face paled on what Lily just told her. "Did you just say you came on foot from the woods and spent the night out there?"
"Have you not heard a word she said? That's exactly what the young woman just said." Chimed in Frieza.
Lily turned and gave him the look of 'I'll handle this.' "Yes, we have and we need some more supplies. Also if possible, somewhere to stay the night."
The man in the driver's seat who was quiet the entire time during the exchange finally spoke up. "You two can get in the backseat if you want. We're heading in now."
She thanked the man and hopped in. Frieza hesitated at first. Then eventually followed her in. The backseat was not as spacious and already had some baggage on parts of the seat. This left Lily and Frieza with very little room. It left their outer thighs almost touching as they sat in the crowded seat. The car began to move forward towards the barricade. Just before it looked like the car was about to touch. The wall receded back wide enough to let them through and into town.
It was surprisingly a very lively place. Even more so, is the inhabitants were not only humans. There were various kinds of what could only be aliens mingling in with the crowded walk ways. Loads of hover cars and trucks took up most of the street. 'Well that explains why the people they met so far weren't fazed by Frieza's inhuman appearance at least.' Buildings, merchant shops, and restaurants lined the street they were on. Lily was betting the other streets looked no different.
In a way, it reminded her of New York City during their biggest tourist seasons. She was so enamored by the sight. That Lily was caught off guard by a loud banging sound, that came from one of the trucks nearby. The bang startled her so much, she fell into none other than Frieza's lap. She stared at his face for a brief second before quickly jumping off his lap, before he could say something. Her faced burned with embarrassment. Frieza surprisingly enough, didn't utter a word. Just a bit baffled by the sudden intrusion.
He was quicker to compose himself than her and soon brushed it off. Their ride lasted for about ten minutes. Before the couple finally pulled off to the side of the road. "This is as far as we can take you. But these merchant shops and shacks on this street should have the things your looking for. Just about all of them you can pay with your fast card."
"Sorry, but what exactly is a fast card?" Lily asked.
The man and woman looked at each other before looking back at them. "You poor girl. You really have must've been living off the wild. It's a card that allows you to buy what you need and make payments. Just about everyone has them."
"Oh." Lily says suddenly very down.
She does have her wallet that has her I.D., credit and debit cards, and some money. But if what this woman is saying is true. Than her money and cards may not work here like she hoped.
"You know what here," the man said.
He fished a small rectangular luminescent card out of his pocket and handed it to Lily. "Just take mine, I'm having a new one coming in the mail any day now. There's nothing wrong with this one. Use it for whatever you may need. I just ordered a new one, because I had it custom made. My wife and I can just share hers in the meantime."
Lily was stunned by the man's generous offer. Who just gives away something like this?
"I...don't know what to say. I couldn't..." She stuttered.
He waves his hand. "Young Lady, I was poor and struggling myself when I was a kid up until I was a young man. Trust me, it's challenging living on the streets. Struggling to survive without the proper necessities to live. You. Will. Need. That. Card."
She smiled. "Thank you, so much for this. And thank you for taking us into town."
He nodded while the woman spoke. "Your welcome dear, and may the gods be with you."
Then she gave Frieza a look. "I'll pray for you."
With those parting words they were off. Frieza finally broke the silence. "You just make friends wherever you go don't you?"
She just gives him a teasing smile. "Well, it certainly can't be your sparkling personality their all commenting on."
He snorts. "Well come on then, you want to restock your supplies or not?"
They started heading to the nearest shops.
Yay! They finally made it to town. Tune in, to read up on their upcoming stay in Elysium. Until Next Time ;)
