A/N: Just a quick fyi, im writing this chapter almost immediately after posting the first one. Ive got the story on my mind and im a bit excited tbh.

I had to walk a few hundred meters before reaching the first Dragonite nests. There were several long, wide ledges that ran along the cliff face, high above the east side of Gyarados Lake on the north end of the valley. We had landed nearest the second lowest ledge, which I didn't mind all that much considering most of the stronger Dragonite nest higher up.

There were several semi-natural ramps that go between the ledges, made out of smoothened stoned that was cut but water types, before being melded into the cliff by rock types. As the ledges were quite tall it took a bit of effort to climb, at least for 6 year old me.

I crested over the top of the ramp leading to the third highest ledge when i decided this was a good enough start point. Like with Salamence, not many Dragonite were nesting around this time and thus were absent from their nests. The closest one to me was a fairly average sized female, that was mostly nuzzling her three Dratini, and relaxing. That meant no egg, so I carried on. I looked around a bit more and realised that most nests contained baby Dratini rather than eggs by now so i didn't have much to look at. Besides, that is, a large male who was watching over two eggs. As i approached him, he looked straight into my eyes and I knew that he knew that I wanted one of his eggs. He disagreed.

So I went up to the second highest ledge, where, although few Dragonite occupied the space, more were nesting. Most of these Dragonite would wait until the very end of mating season to accept a mate, holding out for the stronger pokemon capable of breeding with Dragonite. More of these Dratini will have eggs moves from their parents, and better overall stats most likely. Most of the Dragonite who still had eggs here, were further from the cliff edge so that was where I went. The first Dragonite I approached, like the big male from before, denied me. The next seemed unsure, and gestured to a nearby nest where both parents were there. I assumed therefore they wanted to ask their mate and said,

"Thanks Dragonite, thats really nice of you. Most of the others I've tried were understandably reluctant so I haven't had any success yet. Would you mind if i looked and asked around a bit more, and yoy call out to me when your mate returns if i haven't found anything?" I asked. I wanted to ideally be done pretty quick, I was excited again about getting my own pokemon.

"Bawr" it said, giving a quick nod. I smiled and walked away, carrying on my search. I saw another two nests still with eggs, in both cases there wasn't currently a parent home. Technically I could take an egg, but I'd almost immediately be made to return, before being banned from having a Den pokemon again. The Clan took things like that very seriously.

With the second ledge having no confirmed success, I walked up the ramp to the top ledge. This was the crème de la crème of Dragonite. Only the strongest Dragonite nested here and almost all of them mated outside their species, all except the one currently next to me, the Dragonite who belongs to Professor Oak. Not many people know but after his very successful run as a trainer, Oak took to his passion and became a resesrcher. Most assume he started there. His league team from back in the day didn't do much of anything save what they wanted anymore. Oak very rarely had use for pokemon of that calibre. His Dragonite wasn't here often, but it seemed a late mating had kept it around. Nestled next to its belly, was a tiny pink Dratini, who was still surrounded by the remnants of its egg and nibbling on one of the bigger pieces. Dragonite looked up at me and gave a quick nod before returning his attentions to his newborn baby. It was at this point I again was glad I wanted to remain alive, because I very much would've cursed both Arceus and Giratina this time. A shiny Dratini, whose father is the Dragonite of Ex-Champion and pokemon expert Samuel Oak!! That would've been perfect for me.

Unfortunately not though, and so I trudged on far less enthusiasticly than before. On the top ledge here, there were more nesting Dragonite than anywhere else, at least this time of year. I moved on and as I was about to make my case to a very excited female, it was likely here first lay, there was a bit of a commotion towards the far side of the ledge. I walked over and once I saw inside the nest that now had several Dragonite surrounding it, I knew why. In the middle of a clutch of four eggs, sat the fifth. An egg, two and a half to three times the size of the others. It was at this point I fairly certain I had been hypnotised. I wasn't certain, because the only sure fire way to check was scanning the egg with a Pokèdex, but I may have just found a King Dratini egg.

A King Dratini. A King Dratini. As in, would evolve into a KING MOTHERFUCKING DRAGONITE!!!!!!

Phew. Heart attack over.

"Okay, which one of you is the parent??" I asked, and I really hoped one of them was here. The ring of Dragonite stepped back, except one. And suddenly it made sense.

There were many nesting grounds within the valley and mountains that comprised the Den. And the nesting grounds were used by a species of pokemon. Each mating season, the pokemon would perform whatever mating rituals they had. As this was the Dragons Den, mostly it was battling. The males had to fight it out to see who was strongest, before battling the female for the right to mate with her. If a female or male didn't pick a potential mate to battle, they went off in search of other species. Most of the stronger members left at the beginning, knowing their power. As each species did this, more inter-breeding occured and thus more egg moves passed down and such. The female Dragonite whose nest we all surounded hadn't layed a clutch for over 50 years and it was for one simple reason.

No one, ever, beat her.

Because of this, the Clan had given her an unofficial nickname of Godmother, because while she hadn't layed any eggs herself, she was often seen helping out in nesting season. I looked up at her face, and what I saw genuinely surprised me. I saw fear. From a pokemon recognisable by the battle scars and strength they had, fear was not a comforting emotion to see. Unfortunately, I can't understand pokèspeak and so I can't ask her who the father is. I can deduce its another species, none of the Dragonite here try to fight her anymore because they've learned they'd lose.

I of course wanted that egg, but there was no way she'd let me take it, surely. As I looked back at her again, she took a step into her nest and carefully, without dislodging the others, nudged the King egg over to me.

Arceus you wondeful God. I as your faithful worshipper, thank you ever so much.

"Are you absolutely sure? You know what this means don't you?" I asked. I really wanted the egg, but I wanted to be certain she wasn't going to attack me later on for stealing her baby. She stood back up to full height, looking more resolute than her hesitation from before, and gave a firm two nods. I knew there was a reason she was willing to give me the egg, and it was definitely more to do with whatever monster the father is, but as I picked up that huge egg with an odd mild-orange and blue pattern, it didn't really matter to me. Whatever problems that may come, I would just have to train this Dratini as hard as possible so that when the father eventually comes knocking, we can send him running with his tail between his legs.

With my egg officially found I headed back to the flyers, briefly stopping to let that other Dragonite know I was grateful to her but I now have my egg. A few of the Dragonite I passed saw the size of the egg and were a mixture of nervous, excited and jealous. The pokèmon that would one day hatch from this egg would be an exceptional specimen, even with mediocre training it would find its place in the upper echelons of the species. With my training, I would make sure it became not just around the top, but at the very pinnacle of Dragonite.

By the time everyone was back in sight, the sun had passed mostly behind the western mountain peaks, meaning it was around late afternoon. When they saw me, and consequently my egg they looked more shocked than I was,

"Oh my god, Matt, where did you find that thing?! I don't think I've ever seen an egg that big before." exclaimed my mum, while all three of them were so wide-eyed I rhought their eyeballs were going to fall out.

"What kind of pokèmon lays an egg that big?" asked Clair.

"Well, I didn't believe this myself until I saw it but this egg belonged to Godmother." I replied, and cur the even more stupified looks.

"Matt are you certain? We haven't seen Godmother with a clutch in half a century." Tobias said.

"Like I said grandpa, I didn't believe it myself until she came over and nudged the egg in my direction. I even asked her with words, to be absolutely certain, and she nodded pretty resolutely. She meant for me to take this egg."

"Well, this will certainly cause a stir but hey, you've got an egg! I'm very proud of you Matthew." he said, a warm and comforting smile on his face.

"Its getting a little late in the day so I think nows a good time to head back. Unless you want to try and find another egg, but remember it could take a while so if we stayed we'd have to camp out." said Clair, looking off at the sun before turning to squint into the distance, trying to make out the wall.

"Would you guys mind if we stayed, Theres another two pokèmon I absolutely wanted for my team and the bedlum colony's pretty close by right?" I asked, while absolutely not putting on a puppy dog face and teary, pleading eyes. Absolutely not.

"I suppose it wouldn't be too bad for these old bones to be amongst nature for a night." said Tobias, looking over at my mother.

"Well, I guess we could. But, there's a condition. If you can't find a Beldum tomorrow, you try again in two years." said my mum. I think my looks stopped working on her some time ago now, to be honest.

"Deal. And don't worry. I'll find one way easier than today, promise." I said. After I had placed the egg into my backpack, I climbed on to Altaria's back and prepared to take off in search of a nice forest clearing.

The next morning, I woke up before evryone else and after about 12 seconds of being awake alone, decided to go for a stroll. We'd camped pretty nearby to the Beldum colony's cave system so I thought I might as well try my luck.

The cave system was quite big, but the main cavern where most of the Beldum were was the largest one, about 30 meters above the entrance, and 100 or so into the mountain. It wasn't a straight line but I got there fairly quickly. I couldn't see all of them but there must have been at lesst 300 Beleum alone, with the Metang and Metagross as well there must have been 1000 pokèkon in the cavern. The majority of the Metang and Metagross were toward the centre of the colony so I slowly but surely picked my way through to the eggs.

They were a dull, dark blue colour with a patch or two of silver and they were all grouped together in a large crater like dent that was surrounded by Metagross. The largest one of them was hovering above the eggs and as it turned to me its eyes glowed a bright blue as it used its psychic abilities. I felt a prescence brush my own mind, which is an odd and confusing feeling. Its like when you feel eyes on the back of your neck, but all around your head instead and its like they're about 3 feet away.

Before I could say anything, I saw an image in my head of a vague humanoid shape picking up one of the eggs from a previous batch, before lots of other similar shapes doing the same. It was clear then that it knew why I was here, so I tried my best to project(?) a feeling of curiosity and waited for a response. In return I saw one of the eggs about halfway to the middle float above the rest before coming over to me. I took it in my hands and noticed it had two more silver patches than normal, but otherwise it was a fairly ordinary looking egg. I said thank you to the Metagross before carefully returning to the cave pathway that lead to the surface.

Once I was outside, I saw that everyone had woken up and was preparing to leave. It seems they knew what I was up too.

"Hey, look! I got a Beldum egg as well." I said, holding it up for them to see.

"Good job kid, not many of us go for the Beldum colony, to enamoured with the dragons around here. It's definitely an excellent choice though, it'll serve you very well in future with it's steel typing" said Clair, what packing away the tent.

"You're going to be very busy in the upcoming months Matt, one egg is a big responsibility but two is something you will have to devote almost all your time too. I believe you'll do great son, and i'll be there for you if you ever need any help." my mum said as she released her Altaria.

"Right then, let us be off and back home."

And with that, Tobias climbed onto Clair's Dragonair right behind her as I clambered up onto Altaria's fluffy back before both took to the air, headed for the end of valley.

As it turns out, there are a few ways to incubate and egg. Of course, leaving it with its mother or father is a pretty good way to ensure it gets the heat it needs to hatch properly. When we humans take an egg, or are given one, we have our own ways to help them hatch.

Typically fire types (those who are trainer pokèmon) with their naturally high body temperatures, in particular those with the ability flame body, keep the egg close by until it is ready to hatch for their trainers.

We have also developed technology to do this job for us, the egg incubators available from any Silph Co. supplied store, i.e: pokèmarts and other independant shops, will be more than adequate in keeping an egg in optimal conditions to hatch into a healthy pokèmon.

However, there are a sect of pokèscientists who believe the heat generated from the incubators, while perhaps particularly helpful to Electric and Steel types, are less so for other's. There is as yet no explanation as to why but it has been recorded that, for example, Ground and Rock types hatch into healthier pokèmon why their eggs are heated through warm rocks or in an underground environment. It is speculated that it is because, as an egg, all the nutrients the pokèmon needs tongrow are already within the shell, except the heat. Thus, for healthier growth, the heat provided is best coming from a source rich in the energies of the baby pokèmon's type. For example, a Fire type egg is best heated in a fire, a Water type egg is best hested with warm water, a Grass type egg is best heated outdoors in a forest with the heat coming from the sun like photosynthesis. With dual typings it is theorised a combination is best, for example the species Lantern whose pre-evolution Chinchou are Electric and Water types. Therefore their eggs are best heated through either electrically charged warm water, or through electrically powered heaters, that are used to warm the water the egg will rest in.

Therefore, as I possess a future Dragon and Flying type, but who will hatch into and continue to be just a dragon type for a long while, a draconic environment is best. The city of Blackthorn mostly does that itself, so I plan to have several Dragon Fangs and Dragon Scales around the egg in a blanketed basket, as well as a few Sharp Beaks, to help with the future Flying type.

With the Beldum egg, I plan to leave it in the incubator in front of the tv most days, the heat and sound from the incubator and tv respectively both come from metal devices and thus help provide Steel type energies, the words and communication from whatever show is on will help develop the Beldum's thinking process and Psychic energies too. I plan for the Occasional walk carrying the incubator to perhaps get it used to me and a direct human mind, as supposed to one through the tv.

By the time we returned home it was approaching midday, so we all went inside and after my mum had a chance to prepare something, ate lunch together.

My mum made some salad and had baked a couple of baguettes for us to share, and it was all in all a very refreshing meal.

Clair and my grandpa had to go attend to Clan business once we'd finished so I set the Beldum incubator infront of the tv and turned it on before heading up to my mums room and getting out her dragon artifacts box. This was where she put all the fangs, scales and what not from the dragon types she trained, as well as a few from the ones out in the valley. It was also going to act as a giant supercharger for my future Dratini to feed from.

With the two eggs prepared for their hatching and everything they would need, for now, attended too there was little else to do and little time to do it in. Therefore, the next 2 yeard passed me by in a flash.

So, thats chapter two done. I dont know if this is considered a fast upload time or slow, but ive seen so many different kinds i figured im somewhere in the middle which i prefer i think. i dont jave to feel pressured into writing at a particular pace but my own compulsions still keep me adding things when the ideas come to mind.I actually had this chapter at least half way done nearly immediately after the first and then reached a point after the dratini egg where i didnt know where to go. Do i end the chapter there? It would have been way shorter than the first one so i didnt really want to, but at the same time i didnt know what to add next. So it sat that way for a week or two i think and then i added the beldum, kinda badly in my opinion ngl, but while beldum will be a central team member dratini was the main focus, and will continue to be so throughout. As you may be able to tell theres a time skip of 2 years to Matts 8th birthday where he gets to go again for a 3rd pokemon. idk if hell succed yet, or what itll be, but i think itll be good. There arent really many long fics about dragon types, which i find odd considering i popular they at least appear to be in the wider fandom. but at the same time theres very few fics in general that focus on a character whose specialised in a particular type of pokemon, so.Anyways, thats pretty much everything i wanted to say so tell me what you think of the chapter, and the stroy in general. Premise, content, plot. Anything. just be constructive, dont tell me its shit and i shouldnt write, how is that helping anyone or anything? besides, i dont know you personally so any comments like that mean nothing to me. Praise however, is welcomed, and of course much appreciated, all 2 of you who may wish to give it.
