Once he learned of Lust's death, Greed had been furious. That fury had led to his yearning to pay Father a visit; most likely to punch him in the face. He'd been muttering that exact sentence for the last hour much to both Aria and Kimblee's amusement. Bido of course had been left behind to protect the house or that was what they told him. The chimera wasn't a combat type so going to Central would get him killed; he was perfectly fine with staying behind. That may have been because he hadn't seen how much damage had been done to the house yet. Kimblee mostly fixed the house although they had no idea if it would be standing when they got home.
Currently, they were on the way to Central by train. It had shocked her that wanted criminals were able to simply take a train to the capital of Amestris then she realized that no one cared. Everyone was too busy going about their lives to even consider there might be a murderer or two onboard the train. There was also the fact that anyone who came to Central looking to pick a fight with the Homunculi was either insane or delusional. As she'd learned from Kimblee they were not the same thing. Also, Greed was a bit scary when he wanted to be left alone.
Kimblee himself was lounging with his hat over his eyes trying to ignore the mumbling Homunculus sitting beside him. She knew he wasn't asleep because he'd kicked the other man less than five minutes ago. After listening to Greed's muted words for over three hours he'd finally snapped and lashed out at the Homunculus who hadn't even noticed. She didn't blame him for getting annoyed, she was kind of irritated too but she was trying to sleep much to Envy's annoyance. Something she'd learned about Envy was that he always wanted attention.
Curled up on her shoulder as she leaned against the window, Envy had taken the form of a small black cat that was quickly becoming their favorite form. They didn't like to admit it but Aria did give the best ear rubs. Greed's easy acceptance of them had been shocking but they could already tell the man would hold their status as a possession over their head for the next hundred years. Smug bastard. Watching Aria sleep was boring, however, interacting with Greed would've been worse. Part of them wanted to run away; there was no way Greed's little revenge scheme would end well. Not by a longshot, so why did the man want to go through with it? They were betting that Greed let his emotions rule his decision making.
The moment the train reached Central, Aria's eyes opened letting the Homunculus know that she hadn't actually been sleeping. Not that they would have been able to sleep had they been human. Why was it the first moment they joined Greed, the man wanted to pick a fight with their Father? No, the reasoning was easy to understand; this was a middle finger to the man. They were going to his underground lair just to tell him to screw off. It was insane; given that Kimblee was a psychopath and Aria was blindly loyal, Envy had been the only one to protest the plan. Apparently, their opinion didn't matter compared to Greed's but at least the man hopefully had a plan.
Staying in their cat form, Envy clung to Aria's shoulder as she followed Greed and Kimblee through the streets to the underground entrance. They were kind of hoping that she would disagree with Greed instead she seemed unafraid by the idea of meeting the creator of the Homunculi. Did she not realize this was a life-threatening situation? Envy wanted to snap at them all that this was a bad idea, instead, they twitched their tail. Greed had gone over the plan he'd made just about seventy times since they left Dublith. They knew exactly how they were meant to deal with this family reunion. Still, it was hard not to be worried when there were two humans in the group.
Watching Kimblee wave as headed off to follow her directions to find the lab where she stole the Philosopher Stones, Aria turned her attention back to Greed who was standing stiffly. She could tell he was worried about putting her in danger. It was hard to blame him since she was a child; a fragile human child. Kimblee at least wouldn't be thrown right into the middle of a fight between immortals but she was going to be right at the center. So, no she didn't blame him for worrying about her, nor did she think it made him weak.
"Are you afraid," she asked softly. Feeling Envy twitch at her words, she reached up to rub his ears. The Homunculus melted, figuratively, the second her fingers brushed through his fur. Watching Greed closely she tilted her head when he didn't answer. She didn't blame him for being afraid of the one being who could reduce him back to lifeless stone. Still, she didn't like it when he doubted himself. Shifting on her heels, she said, "I once met a man so filled with greed that he took in a child and turned her into an Alchemist simply because he didn't have one. That man would never be afraid of a little family reunion."
Feeling his hand twitch, Greed chuckled at her words. He had been a bit eager to have an Alchemist, hadn't he? However, he'd made the right choice and he would never regret that. His Alchemist was amazing, the best part was that his Father didn't know that. It would be incredible when his Father who looked down on humans learned just how dangerous they could be. Grinning at the girl, he laid a hand on her head causing her to brighten; the small smile on her face was just as bright as a beaming grin.
"Good thing I'm not afraid then," he stated before making a shooing motion with his hands. Returning his grin with a small nod she began following the directions Envy gave her to reach Father's chambers. The plan was quite simple as long as nothing unexpected happened; she doubted that everything would go smoothly.
She wasn't an idiot, she was loyal, not foolish. Doing this was the same as picking a fight with a god. What they were doing here today was impulsive and reckless, but it was what Greed wanted. She would always put his desires first when compared to her own. Standing outside the chamber door, she would forever deny her nervousness as Envy shifted into human form. The gentle way his hand settled on her arm for a moment was enough to make her relax.
It was strange to think that she was about to meet the man who created both Greed and Envy. He was bound to be stronger than both of them; that was the only thing that made sense. Who would create a being stronger than they were? All they had to do was follow the plan and everything would end fine. It was something she wanted to believe, so when she entered the chamber, it was mildly terrifying that the plan was already going wrong. Feeling Envy's hands tighten on her arms, she paled a bit at the sight in front of her.
There was a fight going on between the tall bearded blonde man who she guessed was Greed's creator and a dark-skinned man with a scar on his face. This wasn't expected in any way. For Gluttony, Pride, or Wrath there was a plan, but for an all-out chaotic battle, she had no idea what to do. To make things worse both Wrath and Gluttony were fighting a golden-haired boy, suit of armor, and a black-haired teen as well. It was slightly terrifying to see Wrath again, but she pushed it down. Right now was not the time to feel any kind of emotion let alone fear.
Hearing Envy mutter something about pipsqueaks, she blinked in surprise but put a terrified expression on her face. Glancing up at the Homunculus who wore an amused smirk, she didn't move as he called out to his creator. That action caused Father to look in their direction before waving his hand so casually it was insulting. She didn't even have to fake the way her eyes widened as the floor shifted to grab everyone but her and the Homunculi. Hearing the blonde boy cry out in shock and rage, she felt in awe of the show of power, however, that didn't stop her from flinching. It was the same boy that Kimblee played with before they left Central.
Digging her heels into the floor as Envy dragged her to where his Father stood, she couldn't help but glance down at the long-haired teen who was clawing at the floor. Rage and horror were painted on his face, but his sword was just out of reach. Catching his dark eyes with her own she felt a spark of curiosity at the lack of fear on his face. Envy was trembling, she could feel it through his arm as he led her toward his creator; she needed to hide that. Brittle nails dug into her jacket as she tried to press herself closer to Envy; she was genuinely uncomfortable in this situation yet, he was the one who was trembling. Was that a little girl over beside the scarred man? Strange, she'd thought Greed was the only person that collected skilled children.
A callused hand closed around her chin forcing her to look up at the man who thought he could become a god. This close it should have been child's play for him to sense the Philosopher Stone hidden in her necklace; if he did then she wouldn't be able to do anything more than standing there like a pretty little decoration. Instead, he could only sense Envy's stone. Their plan was working, all she had to do was wait for the signal. Keeping the scared expression on her face she shifted her foot back to rest against Envy's. He finally stopped shaking.
"So this is Greed's pet. Did you find Kimblee, we had such high hopes for him," Father asked. The dull tone in his voice caused her hand to twitch even as Envy tightened his grip on her arm as if he was going to pull her away early.
"Crimson jumped ship the second they got out of Central. He's probably out destroying a village or something; honestly, I'd rather be doing the same thing," the Homunculus holding her stated. He was a wonderful actor his voice didn't even tremble as he spoke. His foot pressed against hers as the blonde released her and took a step back.
"Indeed, is the girl a viable sacrifice," he asked as if she wasn't standing in front of him. Sweat ran down her forehead as the sounds of struggling was heard behind them. Just a little longer and the plan would be put into action.
"I wish, she just has tattooed hands. If we made that illegal it would make finding sacrifices easier," Envy said a hint of mocking in his tone.
"Then she is of no use to us, Wrath dispose of the girl," Father ordered as he turned away. The sudden lack of interest would have confused her if she hadn't been expecting it.
Still, it was too early for Greed to arrive. They were supposed to stall a little longer before putting the plan into action. Aria tensed as the hand on her arm tightened the shocked cries from behind them went ignored as the leader of Amestris started walking toward them. They needed to buy more time. She could freeze the room right now, however she didn't know if Greed was prepared to react yet. It wasn't time for him to be in a position to attack, nor had Kimblee been given enough time to break into the hidden lab. Stalling was the only option, but she had no idea how to do that without turning the entire chamber into a frozen death trap.
"Understood."
One-step and her heart started to beat faster. This was the man who killed Dolcetto and the others. If he got within range she would freeze him solid. The second step, her eyes landed on the sword in his hand; it had been covered in the blood of her family. Rage began to flow through her blood far colder than any of the Alchemy she wielded. The third step, her hand clenched into a fist as her face began to fall into its apathetic mask. The ouroboros in his eye would make a lovely target.
"Wait," Envy shouted just before she could lash out. Jolting in his grip, she twisted her head to look at him. He didn't return the favor but she knew that he realized what she was about to do. Wrath's gaze burned into her as Father raised a hand for Envy to speak. Swallowing thickly the Homunculus asked, "Just like that, aren't we going to use her to draw out Greed?"
"Do not worry, your brother will be dealt with soon enough, or is this some form of concern for the human," the blonde asked. Glancing between them she tried to look as frightened as possible. The raised eyebrow from Father contrasted with the fierce frown on Envy's face. Apathy and emotion violently trying to kill each other with their gazes.
"No, I'm just annoyed that I wasted an entire week tracking her down when you're just going to kill her without doing anything useful with her," Envy snarled. Stumbling as he shook her for emphasis, Aria made sure to cry out in fear. Repositioning her feet as the Homunculus stopped she took a calming breath; just a little bit longer.
"I see," Father stated although he didn't seem to care. Sighing as if he was dealing with a five-year-old rather than a Homunculus he said, "Envy...this human is unworthy of being used in our plans. We have more than enough sacrifices and she will never join our side. Wrath."
"Damn it!"
Crashing to the floor as Envy shoved her roughly, she flinched as his foot slammed down onto the floor. Staying completely still as Wrath continued his approach, she closed her eyes. The Philosopher Stone seemed to pulse in response to her silent plea as frost gathered on her fingertips. Above her Envy was howling with anger like a petulant child; it was the perfect distraction. His seemingly careless action had put her even closer to Father but the man paid her no mind. All his attention was on the Homunculus, not the frail human girl who was within grabbing distance.
"Please don't act like a spoiled child," Father stated. The childish attitude being displayed was getting annoying. Opening his mouth to chastise his child, he fell silent as an ice-cold hand closed around his ankle.
Aria glared up at the man as her necklace glowed a vibrant red. The way his eyes widened in shock more than made up for the fact Wrath had started moving faster. Envy's hand closed on her jacket but she didn't break eye contact even as the Homunculus tugged her away. Almost weightless she flew backward before twisting to land a single hand on Gluttony's shoulder. Flipping away as the fat man stumbled she landed on her feet while Envy kicked Wrath across the chamber.
Screaming Gluttony reached up to hold his head as icicles began sprouting from his body. Dropping to his knees the creature struggled to hold his body together as red lightning accompanied his desperate bid for regeneration. Across the chamber, Father was slowly turning to ice as the blood in his body froze. It wouldn't be enough to kill either of them, but the enraged glare from Father made her wish it was. Tilting her head back in defiance as Envy moved to stand beside her, she crossed her arms. Her sudden change of emotion was enough to throw the hostages into stunned silence.
Sharp clapping filled the air followed by amused cackling; he sounded more like a villain than anything else. Ignoring the dumbfounded captives, Aria smiled as Envy rolled his eyes. Walking into the chamber with enough smug satisfaction to fill an ocean, Greed couldn't contain the wicked grin on his face. This was the best moment of his life. Ignoring the shocked sound from the Fullmetal pipsqueak, he put a hand on his hip wondering if he should take a photo of his creator's shocked expression.
"Well Pops, looks like my Alchemist just bested you," he mocked. Laying a hand on Aria's head as reassurance and praise, he didn't take his eyes off the rapidly freezing man. That was why he saw the rage flash through his eyes so clearly; this really was the best day of his life.
"Greed," his creator stated almost snarling at the man. The cocky arrogant expression didn't fade at all as Greed had the audacity to wave at him.
"Wrath kill them."
Chuckling at the order, Greed dropped his hand from Aria's head. For just a moment he remembered laying on the cold stone unable to move as his chimera were slaughtered, then he blinked. Letting his ultimate shield cover everything but his face, he kept a cocky smile on his face even as Wrath started walking forward. Aria reacted almost instantly by throwing out her hands. The moisture in the air condensed and froze before creating a dome around the man who simply rose an eyebrow.
"Envy, Aria, free the humans," Greed ordered knowing that the dome would hold for only seconds. Glancing at Gluttony who was still wreathing on the floor, he chuckled; the fat Homunculus wouldn't be much of an issue. Flexing his claws, he said, "I'll keep old Wrath busy. Hey, maybe we can finally talk about his retirement plan."
Obeying the order instantly as Greed lunged toward the dome, Aria rushed to free the blonde boy first while Envy went in the opposite direction. Ignoring the inquisitive golden eyes watching her she turned the stone holding him in place to water before doing the same to the suit of armor beside him. Shattering stone could be heard from Envy's direction as she went to free the black haired teen only to hesitate when the blonde boy muttered that she had a Philosopher stone.
Sending him a frigid glance, she kneeled down beside the black-haired teen only to still at the look of look in his eyes. He was obviously foreign if the clothing and skin tone was anything to go by. However, what made her hesitate was the expression of hunger in his gaze when the stone was mentioned. Deciding to question it later, she reached out laying a hand on the stone that seemed to tremble before rippling under her touch. Watching him shiver as the water cascaded off his skin she went to retract her hand only for him to grab her wrist. The grip wasn't painful just tight enough to keep her from moving away.
"Is it true," he questioned eagerly. She knew he was asking about the stone and saw no reason to hide it. For those that knew what to look for she'd already given away the fact, she held one. Nodding, she noticed the relief in his gaze just before the grip on her wrist tightened. His expression reminded her of the time Martel had given Dolcetto his favorite meal; it should've been unsettling instead she found the expression interesting. Did he really desire the stone so much?
"Aria!"
Twisting to glance behind her at Envy's scream, she found Gluttony lunging at her. Jaws wide open the Homunculus threw everything into his movement; just for the chance to swallow her whole. The glittering drool flew out behind him leaving a trail as the world seemed to move in slow motion. The hand on her wrist tightened as if he was going to pull her out of the way, however, she reacted before he could. Yanking her wrist from his grip, she lunged upward as her hand lashed out to slam into the Homonculus's chin.
Warm blood hit her skin from the creature bitting his own tongue seconds before his blood turned into ice again. Stepping aside as he screeched, she turned back to the teen who stared at her in shock. In fact, all the humans were staring at her as if she was some strange animal they'd never seen before. Tilting her head innocently even as Gluttony sobbed in the background she felt more than saw Envy approaching. Offering the Homunculus a smile she walked over to the sword seemingly forgotten by the teen and picked it up.
Looking down into the shinning metal for a moment she idly wondered if she should cut her hair before pushing away the idea. Handing the sword back to the teen, she turned her attention to Greed's fight even as her fellow humans gathered around her. The sharp glances being given to her by the golden-haired boy was slightly annoying. Once Greed gave the signal she would have to cover their retreat. Tugging on her gloves, she allowed Envy to lead her and the others closer to the door.
Greed was still cackling even as he dodged and parried Wrath's strikes. If anything his lack of fear was annoying the other man who was trying to cut off his head. Smirking he flipped backward glancing at Aria as he did so. They were in position; it was time to stop playing around. Landing he allowed the smirk to fade as he caught the blade heading for his chest. Kicking Wrath away much to the man's anger he rushed to stand beside his Alchemist as she turned the chamber into a winter wonderland.
Seven walls of ice formed between them and their enemy as Aria stumbled. Even with the stone she still looked exhausted although he had to wonder if it was emotional more than physical. Picking her up easily, he caught the insulted glance Envy threw in his direction but said nothing to tease his sibling. There was a time and place for mocking and this wasn't it. He would have all the time in the world to tease Envy later; right now they needed to get out of here before Wrath broke through the ice.
"Right let's retreat," he ordered. The commanding tone keeping any of the humans from arguing with him despite the fact he knew they wanted to. Nodding at Envy to take the front, he kept a gentle grip on Aria.
Hi guy's sorry this chapter is late. I had a bunch of assignments due Wednesday and then a lab yesterday; my class dissected a pig heart (yes it was as weird as it sounds).
Moving on what did you guy's think of this chapter? The next chapter will have Aria losing her temper just a bit along with some cute Ling and Aria moments.
-Stay safe and have a good day
