A Eureka fanfic. This story was inspired by a Stargate SG1 episode! Well as always I do not own Eureka or any of its characters, Enjoy(:
Rated K Family and Friends. Hurt/Comfort
Henry, Zane, Carter, Allison, and Fargo gathered in a new testing lab at G.D. "So this armband in theory will increase all of ones natural abilities such as speed and strength. If they work it could give military operatives a much greater physical advantage. It could also be used in law enforcement.". Said Henry looking at Carter with his classic grin. "Hey I like the sound of that.", Carter said with a big smile and a Chuckle. "Zane, Fargo and I have been developing this prototype for a year and Fargo will be wearing it for the next week to test out its effects.", Henry explained to the others. "On this tablet I will be monitoring his vitals and any change in Fargos physiological condition.", Zane said. "If anything goes wrong we can simply remove the arm band." Zane took the armband and placed it on Fargos forearm. The bottom peices automatically clasped together, locking it in place. It was silver and thick with the G.D. symbol that glowed a deep purple. "I cant wait to try this out! When will I begin to feel the effects?", Fargo asked eagerly. "Probably in a few hours. We'll have you come in every day for a physical and a workout to better see your progress.", Zane responded with his typical toothy smile. "So how does it change his actual physiology?", Allison asked. "It releases a type of artificial virus through the blood stream that is able to stimulate strength, speed, and other attributes.", Henry replied. "Will it affect his brain activity or any other bodily systems?", Carter asked. The others looked at him with surprise. "What I know things!", He said to their looks of surprise. Henry chuckled and responded, "As far as we can tell that shouldnt happen, but thats why were testing it. If anything does go wrong like Zane said we should be able to detect it.". "Come on super strength! Whoo!", Fargo said excited. "I mean I'll go on the treadmill thats hooked up to our sensors for a pre-test to help get a better frame of reference.". Allison shook her head and laughed. "Just be careful Fargo and send me any important updates. I'll see you all later I have to go brief general Mansfield. Wish me luck.", she said walking away. A few hours later Fargo and Henry were working on another project involving particle physics. "So are you feeling any effects yet Fargo?", Henry inquired. "No not yet.", said a disappointed sounding Fargo. "Well they'll show up eventually. It takes a while for your system to process the virus.", said Henry. Fargo just nodded his head in agreement. As Henry kept his eye on the project he blindly reached behind him for some precision pliers when he accidently knocked over a beaker with nitric acid off the table. Fargos hands grabbed the beaker in less than a second. They both looked up in surprise. "I guess your reflexes are improving.", Henry commented looking at the beaker. "I guess so", Fargo said with a shocked chuckle. "That felt amazing! It was like nothing ive ever felt before!" Fargo said looking his hands with awe. "I can imagine!", Henry said with a happy chuckle. Later that day he discovered his strength increasing when he ripped his front door off of its hinges. Fargo was up almost all night using his strength and speed in different ways. The next day Fargo, Zane, and Henry were in the testing lab. Fargo stepped off the treadmill after running at over 500 miles an hour which ended up frying the machine. "I can fix that...", Fargo said. "Ok sit over here and squeeze this ball it will measure your strength.", Zane explained to Fargo. "Uh yea I invented it remember.", he replied. "Oh yea.", Zane chuckled. "Wow. These readings indicate your strength has increased by 500%.". "Cool!", Fargo replied. "There is some strange activity in your prefrontal cortex. That effects rational decision making. Not a big difference to worry about yet though. I'll keep monitoring it.". Later that day Fargo was working in his lab on his computer. "Hey Fargo whatcha doin?". "Hey sheriff! Im writing a paper on theoretical physics in antimatter properties. Ive been wanting to do it but never had the time. Now I can type up to 3,000 words a minute. The computer cant even catch up with me!", Fargo said excited. "Well Henry sent me down here because he says your body temperature is slowly increasing. And the activity in your profractal corntex is growing. Come with me back to Henrys lab.". "Prefrontal cortex. And im not going. They'll just take it off which is not happening. Dont you see what ive been able to accomplish!? Im not gonna let them take it off.", Fargo said with furrowed brows. "But Fargo..", Fargo cut Jack off. "Look Carter! Im very busy so if you would please", Fargo motioned rudely towards the door. Carter walked out thinking he needed to talk to Henry and Zane. "Hey guys.". "Hey Carter, wheres Fargo?", Zane asked. "Well he wouldnt come with me. Hes acting really weird, well weirder, and said he wouldnt let you guys take the armband off.", Jack explained. The two other men looked at each other with concern. "Well hes right, we were going to remove it. It seems to be affecting not only is bodily functions negatively like his temperature but also his hormones and as you can see, the area of his brain that controls decision making and rational thinking. If we dont take it off I have no idea what the virus could do to him and I think things are gonna get alot worse than just a fever and a cranky Fargo.", Henry explained. "Wed better try to take that thing off him now.", Zane added. The other two men nodded in agreeance. About 5 minutes later the three of them approached Fargo in his lab. He didnt look away from his computer. "What do you three want?", Fargo said in an annoyed tone. "Were taking it off Fargo. I dont like the growing side affects.", Said Henry. "Fargo by law you have to comply.", Jack added. Fargo tried pulling off the armband. It didnt budge. "Having trouble complying.", Fargo said. Carter, Zane, and Henry all tried pulling it off but the armband wouldnt unclasp. "Why isnt it coming off?...Maybe the main circuitry board didnt connect to the sensory output.", Fargo commented. "I dont know, but until we figure it out your confined to this lab. And im linking the tablet thats recording your physiology and vitals to the infirmary just in case the virus takes a turn.", Henry told Fargo. "What?! Why!?", Fargo said furious. Henry shook his head and replied, "Your decision making is impaired and your temperature is still rising. With your strength and speed this is the best place to keep you.". Fargo just nodded. Allison then walked in looking at Carter. "We have an emergency. Theres a pipe burst in the underground synthetic water system under Eureka. Its letting in a highly explosive chemical from one the acidic testing labs. If theres the smallest spark Eureka will be nothing but a crater. We need to send a drone in there to go find the leak and seal it. We'll have to operate it remotely and its not going to be easy. I wish I could send a person down there to do it but I cant risk sending anyone. Evacuation ". "Let me go. I can fix it in no time with my enhanced strength and speed.", Fargo stated. "No. Youre confined to this room like I said, there's no way youre going on a mission like that with your decision making skills impaired. And I have yet to fully find out what the virus is doing to your body.", Henry said. Carter left with Allison and Henry and Zane went to help in any way they could. Fargo sat in the chair thinking up a plan. He waited about ten minutes then he easily broke down the door and went to get prepared. He knew he was the one that had to go down there. Back at the site where they were controlling the drone remotely, Zane was looking at the tablet that recorded the readings from the armband still attached to Fargo. "Henry look!", Zane said. "What!?", Henry asked worried. "Well it looks like the virus has created its own antibody. So he'll become immune to the virus and the armband is going to come off on its own.", Zane explained. Suddenly a gush of wind blew by with a flash of black. "Was that who I think it was?", Carter said. "I think so...", said Henry. "I told him not to leave! What was he thinking!?", Henry continued. "He wasnt thinking. And now hes down there with abilities that he could lose at any second.". Zane said seriously. Allison and Jack looked at the others with concern."If hes down there to long being exposed to the chemical leakage it could cause some serious problems. And not only that but according to these readings if we dont get to Fargo soon, the antibody in his system will cause his organs to start to shut down.", Zane said to a group of concerned faces. Down the huge tunnel type hole Fargo climbed down the ladder that led to the underground syn water system. He reached the bottom and in under 3 seconds already reached the section that the leak was in. He paused for a second to look around when suddenly he started to feel lightheaded. "No ive got to do this. Its probably just the toxins that are leaking. Just contain the leak and get out of here.", Fargo said to himself. He sped down the hallway to find the leak coming from a pipe that came lose. As he reconnected the two pipes he felt the unconscious pulling him in. But he pushed on knowing the town and everyone in it was at stake. He used a high tech sealent around where the pipes met so there was no chance of a future leak. He didnt even have time to wonder what was happening to him as he succomed to the sleep that pulled him in. His head hit the hard floor and the armband released. A few minutes went by that felt like hours. "The leak has been sealed!", said Henry. Everyone cheered. "So wheres Fargo?", asked Jack. "If the armband released already it should take him a while to get up the ladder.", said Allison. But several minutes went by and no Fargo. "That armband isnt giving me any more readings which keans its disconnected. That also means Fargos system has most likely started to fail and he doesnt have a lot of time.", said a worried Zane. "Cant we send someone down there?", said Jack quickly. "I cant, there might still be remnants of the acidic toxins.", said Allison. "We'll use special masks that can filter out any foreign bodies. I think I speak for Henry and Carter, were going down there.", said a determined Zane. The other two men nodded in agreeance. "Ok. Bring an extra mask for Fargo and hurry.", said a reluctant and worried Allison. In no time they got the masks and were headed down the tunnel. "Why is it always heights?", said Jack looking down towards the bottom with a look of terror on his face. "Come on we have to hurry. It might already be to late.", Said Henry with a look of worry. After a few minutes they finally reached the bottom. They looked at the map on Zanes tablet and headed towards Fargos estimated location. They turned down the corridor where the leak had been. "Fargo!", Jack yelled while running down the hall. They all reached him as fast as they could. "His pulse is almost gone.", said Henry. Jack put the mask on Fargo just before Zane swung Fargo over his shoulder as they headed back to the tunnel entrance. Once they reached it Jack tied a rope around Fargos waist and they all climbed out of there as quickly as they could. They finally reached the top where a medical team and a very anxious Allison and Jo waited. Carter and Zane pushed Fargo up as some medics pulled him out and put him on the gourney. "No pulse. I cant find a heart rythym.", said one of the medics. They all stood in disbelief. Jo started to cry turning away. "No. Come on youve got to do something, he just saved the whole town! Come on!", Zane said angry. "No. Not Fargo.", Allison said determined as she began CPR. 1 minute passed. "Come on Fargo! I need defiblerators! Now!", she yelled. "CLEAR!". Nothing. "CLEAR!", she said once more as the electricity coursed through his heart. Allison hung her head. Zane was holding a crying Jo. Jack couldnt grasp what was happening and just sat on a rock nearby with shock. Henry teared up and muttered something to himself. All the sudden Fargo sputtered out a cough. "Oh my gosh Fargo", Allison said as she hugged him tight. The others practically leapt toward the gourney. There was nothing but utter relief. Fargo just sat up, closed his eyes and sighed from exhaustion. Jo wrapped her arms around her friend and softly kissed him on the cheek. "DONT scare me like that again or I WILL have to shoot you!", she warned with a smile. Fargo chuckled tiredly. "So what just happened?", Fargo asked. "Well the virus from the armband created an antibody and it seriously jacked up your organs. You were down there breathing in toxic acidic fumes by the way when the armband deactivated.", Zane explained. "Yea and you could have died you almost did. That was really brave.", Henry said with a grin as he patted Fargo on the back. "Nice job Fargo...and I guess im glad your not a corpse.", said Zane with a toothy grin. "Jo are those tears?", Fargo asked with a slight smile. "No. I do NOT cry. Come on let's get you to G.D.. "I don't know im pretty sure I saw some tears.", Said Jack teasing. Jo punched him in the arm as everyone chuckled. As Fargo started to get off the Gourney Allison put a hand on his arm softly. "Wait Fargo youre not out of the woods yet. Lets just make sure your ok and not take any chances.". Fargo looked at Allison and raised his eyebrows with a slight smile. "Ok im just worried about you what do you want from me im a mother. Just lie down you.", Allison said with a big sweet smile. The others all looked at Fargo. He looked worn out and exhausted. They were all secretly shaken at what had happened but were more than relieved to see Fargo okay and being himself. They all walked behind or next to the guerney without leaving Fargos side. He already fell asleep out of exhaustion and they just watched his chest rise and fall making sure he was alright and assure themselves that he was still breathing.
