Forgive and Forget
It was oddly comfortable in this concrete cell. A little bit chilly but nothing as bad as what he felt before. He's been in worse places. Sleeping next to garbage in a dark alley while mother nature shots you with rain. Yeah, this isn't so bad. That and he's mostly alone. Just the way he liked it. No one bothered him and tell him what to do much. Other than that manual labour stuff, that's kind of a pain, and the food was… let's not talk about it. Nothing can describe it. But hey it's prison so he shouldn't expect that much. At least he has his bed. He kind of had to after he tried to kill all his previous roommates. Being violent can have its perks.
Shigaraki lazily draped himself across his single bed. He didn't give a damn about posture he just wanted some sleep. Sleep was all he can do most of the time. Other than eating, manual labour and his talks with the little green hero there's not much to do. He can't escape thanks to these specialised cuffs restrains on his quirk. So, he can't disintegrate his way out of here and trying to break them is too much of a hassle. So, he just sleeps and whines the day away waiting on that lumpy mattress for Izuku...no no no. Not that brat. He's waiting for his sensei. He'll come for him for sure! Then it' bye-bye stupid cell. Bye-bye stupid guards and pathetic inmates. And bye-bye...Izuku. For some odd reason, he felt… sad? No that can't be. The boy means nothing. Nothing! He's just another stupid hero wannabe. He'll leave him just like the rest of them. Why does he feel so doubtful about that? He knows it's true it must be. So why? He lifted one of his chained hands. It was the one the boy so foolishly held. So stupid. He's so stupid! Closing his tired eyes, he couldn't help but recollect the whole event. The warm feeling. That bright smile. The lack of fear in his eyes. "Stupid brat."
Hey Tomura! I'll be there soon.
The sudden voice echoing in his mind caused the young villain to jump. He was in such a shock he flipped off his bed. "The fuck!" he hurriedly jolted his head around the empty cell. Nothing. Same stone-grey walls. Same iron door. Same tiny window mocking him with what little sunlight to freedom they had. Vigorously, he shook his head. "Ok, I'm going crazy. Hearing the brat's voice." He hopped off his feet and marched to the iron door and bashed his cups against it. "Hey, assholes! You put something in my food! I'm hearing things that I shouldn't! Hey!"
He's constant hammering was answered by someone he didn't expect. Instead of seeing one of the many forgettable faces the random guards, it was detective Naomasa that greeted him with the smile. The detective waved his gloved hand as if he was greeting a friend. "Morning Shigaraki. It's good to see you up and active. Midoriya is here to greet you. He was passing by on his way to school. Isn't that nice?" he said casually.
Shigaraki blinked twice. "Wait. what?" It was a surprise to hear. It's not normal for the boy to come by this early in the day. He usually drops by after class or near noon on weekends. "Really? He's here?" he asked with rolling eyes. He tried his best to disguise his joy with a pout, but it wasn't enough. His high-pitched tone, as well as the gleam in his eyes, were more than enough to tell he was happy. You don't need to be a detective to see that.
The detective just smiled. "Alright come along. We don't want to keep him waiting." Things were going well between the two of them with each interaction. Reformation might not seem so impossible. He'd been filling out a case in the background. With any luck the boy could become a free man provided he goes through the necessary procedures. But that's for a later date.
By near instinct, Shigaraki followed without delay. It was like his body was on autopilot. After all he'd done this so many times it was like second nature. He didn't even need anyone to escort him anymore. He memorised the path. It's only a 5-minute walk at most. Soon they made it to the promised door. A simple metal door activated with a swipe of a card. That's the only thing the detective or any of the guards are good for at this point. They are the only ones with the key to open it.
With a swipe, a little green light flashed. The door's gears creaked with movement. Smoothly, it slid to the side to reveal the shining light smiling at him. Just like any other day. "Good morning Tomura. How are you?" greeted the hero with his usual bright smile.
The villain pouted his lips and spat out a fine. He sloppily waltzed to the prepared chair and slouched down with a yawn. "So, what the fuck are you doing here this early?" he asked bitterly while holding his cuffed hands above his head. It's become somewhat of a tradition. More of a signal for the detective to take the damn things off. In this room with him, some other guards and of course this brat here. That's the only time he's allowed them off. It was a simple task with the right key. The detective made quick work of it. It felt great to have his hands free. The weight lifted off was a dream. It felt too good to crack his fingers and stretched them out. They would die and wither away from the numbness if they weren't set free every once and awhile.
While the villain twisted his wrist around, Izuku smiled happy to see him comfortable. "I just thought I'd come by to say hi. Oh, and did you get my message?" the boy asked with an unusual excitable shine in his eyes. He always had that look in his eyes during their discussions.
Shooting a questionable look at the hero, the villain spoke, "What message?"
"Oh hum...I guess I should explain," the boy replied with nervous laughter. He then extended his hand and called upon his leads in their primary form. The phantom black and green book and pen hovered into his waiting hands. "You see I found out I can send messages to more than Kurama by using my le... I mean quirk. I'm still getting used to it since how it operates is complicated. At first, I thought I had to look at a person to give them a message but that wasn't the case."
The boy then began to mumble on about his inner turmoil about sending a message to a stranger. Not like the message was creepy or mean. Just a simple hello and maybe a can you hear me? He spent a good 15 minutes staring at a random student he didn't know. Debating whether it was a good idea. He might scare them. Although he already succeeded in that even without the message. Being stared at for longer than well anything was an uncomfortable feeling. Once he finally got the courage to send it nothing happened. The words remained on the page. They didn't go anyway. With that failed attempt he tried to do someone he knew that was right next to him: Uraraka. It was a success and the girl told him he was being silly. Of course, she could hear him she was right next to him. With the stranger test being a failure but the friend test was a success, he tired it with his other classmates that he spotted nearby. Just saying hi and they all responded. So, he concluded he needed to know the person he's sending the message to. He did try a couple of other strangers, but the results were still the same. The words remained on the page.
When he turned home, he stayed outside his door and wondered if he even needed to see his indented target at all. So, he did one last test. He quickly wrote a little greeting for his mother and with her image in his brain he sent it off. To his surprise, he heard a simple greeting through the door.
"When I asked her about it, she said it was so loud she thought I was right next to her. Like in her head or something. Therefore, so long as I know the person I want to send the message to, they don't need to be in my line of sight. But then there's the distance to think about. So, I sent out a message to you on my way here. Did it work?" Getting a little too overly excited, Izuku was already on his feet leading closer to the glass wall the separated them.
Shigaraki thought back to a little earlier the voice he suddenly heard. That explained so much. "Yeah, it worked alright. Scared the shit out of me!"
Immediately, Izuku dropped back to his seat and bowed his head. "Sorry. I'm sorry."
"Yeah whatever," Shigaraki spat carelessly. While his eyes rolled, they wondered until he noticed something odd. Something was missing in this picture. A very small, annoying and fluffy something. "Where's the furball?" The hero made a shock almost shameful expression. He just couldn't look the villain in the eye as his lip quivered. On the other hand, the villain tilted his head. He could see something was bothering the young hero but wasn't entirely sure how to face him. He wasn't that dumb by any means. If anything, he was just childish, but that childlike mindset has a few advantages. "He's still mad at you, isn't he?" One is being brutally blunt.
Izuku fell off his chair by how blunt he was. The fact that his tone was so deadpan didn't help either. "Was it that obvious?" he nervously asked while climbing back to his chair.
"Well yeah. What else could it be?" the villain huffed while leaning back in his chair. "This is dumb if you ask me. How long has it been now? A week?"
Yes, Izuku told him everything. The villain was sharp despite being a man child. It only took a couple of visits for him to notice something was wrong. Once again, the hero cried his feeling out. "Why he's so mad. I know he was just worried about me but still. He does need to completely avoid me like the plague." His eyes wandered to his scarred arm. They marked him like hideous sharp stripes. They don't hurt more but looking at them he can feel the tingling pain lodged in his memory. "I still don't regret anything, but I miss Kurama. We still haven't talked since then. I can't even find him anymore."
The sunshine smile Shigaraki was so used to seeing was gone. Replaced by this gloomy expression that's been appearing on the hero far too often for the villain's liking. "You look like a puppy that lost its owner. Just kiss and make up with him, damn it."
"Easy for you to say!" Izuku yelled back "I don't even know where he is!"
Somewhere else in the world: "Achoo!" sneezed a little voice.
The weaken hero stared up at his golden locks. There was a new addition in his hair. It weighed quite a bit on his head. Good thing his bones were stronger than they look otherwise he would have a snapped neck. "You ok? Got a cold?"
"No. I think someone is talking about me." Replied the fox as he scratched his little nose with his soft paws.
"I bet you it's young Midoriya."
"I bet you your right."
How did things end up like this? Toshinori sighed in his head. It was strange. Extremely strange. He never thought he'd see the day when Kumara would, on his own free will, join him for anything. Or make his hair into a nest like he does with young Midoriya. The fox gave him no warnings. He just wandered into the staff room one morning, jumped on his head and then curled up to sleep. At first, it was a sock. The little guy rarely allowed him the simple pleasure to pet him. Let alone rest on his head. It's been like this for a week and he's still not used to it. It was also kind of embarrassing to hear a few of his colleagues' awe at the sight. They even tried to take pictures but that backfired quickly. The second before they could click, the fox would attack and try to bite their hand off. Mic almost lost a finger one time. It was very odd behaviour for the little fox. There's only one reason why. "You and young Midoriya still haven't made up yet."
"So, what if we haven't," the fox huffed with whipping his tails displeased.
Toshinori sighed in dismay. It's not like he didn't like the little fox. On the contrary, this was better than his previous harsh treatment. Still, it was kind of strange to have him around this much. Even going as far as using his hair as a bed. "I don't understand why you're still mad. All he did was tried his best."
"And look where that got him!" the fox snapped back. "a broken arm and scars. That duelled colour brat isn't worth the effort."
Toshinori arched an eyebrow. "Are you sure that's everything? You can't be mad for this long just because of that. Besides Midoriya's injuries have already healed and he already promised not to be so reckless with One for all again. What more could you be mad at?" It was just confusing to him that the fox is still like this. Everyone has moved on at this point. Recovery girl gave them both more than an earful about using his power differently without destroying his bones. Although that is another problem to deal with.
"You don't understand!" the fox suddenly yelled with a screech. Aggressively, the fox bared his claws at the hero's locks and leapt out taking a few clumps of hair with him. Then he strutted away from the whining hero who found himself raving in pain from receiving a few bald spots. The fox didn't even bother to look back. He stepped out the door with his head held high. Then slapped the door behind him.
As for the hero, he checked for blood. There was a bit. His eyes followed the ghost steps that fox made. "You're right I don't understand." He whispered in disappointment. "You could have just told me though." As he is laid there looking at the ceiling above, he couldn't help but think. What should I do? His successor is having a hard time with his 'quirks'. He can't handle either of them. "Am I even good enough to teach the kid how to use One for all? I don't even know how I used it when I was his age. The fact that it gets stronger with each generation doesn't help either. Then Tsubaki is going AWOL. Damn it there has to be something I can do."
"A PHONE CALL IS HERE! A PHONES CALL IS HERE!" chimed a familiar ringtone.
Casually, Toshinori fished the phone from his pockets and pressed it against his ear. Not bothering to look at the caller ID. He would soon regret it. "Hello?" his tiny blue eyes cracked in fear from the familiarity of the voice. Memories flooded into his body as he left the pain again. Oh, how his body remembers. Immediately, he straightened up his position. "Yes hello. It's been a while." A crusty voice of rage yelled at him on the other end. He knew it was a mistake to not tell him about young boy. It's not like he wouldn't have told him. It just slipped his mind that's all. Hopefully, this lecture will be his only punishment… "What? I see. I'll talk to him later about it."
"Sigh..." Izuku gloomily walked along the U.A corridors. His talk with Shigaraki ended up being quite the heated argument. He just couldn't win at all. Not like he had any desire to. He knows he should talk to Kurama and sort out their little squabble but that's hard to do when he still has no clue where he ran off to. He kind of knows where he is when he's home. The fox is usually somewhere around the apartment in the evening, but he just couldn't talk to him. The minute he tries to approach him he runs off. It was so frustrating.
"Hi, Midoriya."
Izuku had to take a second or two to register the voice. He then leapt up in surprise. "Oh, hey there, Todoroki. Didn't see you there," he greeted the dual quirk user with a quickly formed smile. "How's your neck?"
The boy stroked the suspicious-looking bruise. It was deep purple, but it doesn't hurt as much as it did before. The swelling stopped and stung less. However, the strange thing about it was that it looked vaguely like a handprint. "It's nothing serious. It should be gone in the next couple of days. I can barely feel it now. What about your arm?" He said in a rush trying to change the conversation.
It worked. "Oh, it's fine." He then flexed his sacred arm proving his flexibility. "See all better. I can't even feel it."
Todoroki then gave a single calm nod of satisfaction, "that's good to hear."
"Hey, Todoroki. Did you ever figured out who was the villain that punched your dad that bad?" asked one of their nosey classmates. "It's all anyone's been talking about. That villain must have been something else. To be able to punch a cool hero like that and leave a bruise."
"You mean fiery," one sported out jokily. "That man can burn through anything like nothing. Is your dad amazing or what?
Their words of praise and curiosity left a sour taste in the young boy's mouth. If only they knew the truth. Then they wouldn't sound so cheery. "My father isn't that good of a man." Todoroki spat before turning to Izuku yet again. "I bet your father is, Midoriya. He's certainly better than mine."
...
Something triggered inside of the young boy as those words. His sunshine glow disappeared in an instance. A sense of melancholy hovered over the boy. It clouded his eyes with dullness. "My father?"
"Oh yeah! You always talk about your mom, but you never really talk about your dad much, Deku," Uraraka joined into the conversation with cheerful curiosity. She hopped beside him with a smile hoping to learn more about her dear friend. "I bet he's cool like you."
"Anyone related to you must be quite the character," Asui joined with the equal amount of curiosity. Others soon joined in as they talked about this and that about their parents. Whether they were the strict type, the type to tease overly loving or the worry type. It was supposed to be an everyday type of students talk. Something light. Family-friendly.
However, the was an ominous dark cloud quickly covering young Midoriya. It Coiled around him. Suffocated him like a snake. The words couldn't escape his mouth. Not with this feeling choking on his pipes. It hurt. It hurt. Not as much as his head. It was a buzz with something. Static images began to play. That damn night. He can still hear it sometimes. The voice of a desperate man huffing in pain. Desperation. He couldn't see their face. He almost forgotten. Only the memory of their lips moving up and down in a frantic manner stuck with him. He's trying to remember but it hurts. It hurts so much. A drill was stabling his brain trying to dig through. Finding memories. Where are they? Where are they! Then he heard it. That one line from the past:
Stay in here. I promise I will come back.
No one knew what to do. No one knew what to say. Not when young Izuku cried silently. It started unexpectedly. The tears dripping down is freckled cheeks with a vague expression in his eyes. He was known for crying but not like this. Not with this emotionless yet pained expression in his eyes. It was so unneutral they couldn't help but stare in uncertain silence. They just sat there; watching their usually happy classmate cry in such a way. It was a heart-breaking sight. Although it was not as nearly as heart-breaking as the next words he uttered. "Papa..." such an innocent, broken whisper. It was like hearing a whimpering puppy that has been cruelly kicked in the stomach.
"Deku, what's wrong? Deku?" His friends tried to call him but no response. The tried to shake him but no response. They tried to comfort him but no response. He remained still with tears running down his dead eyes. "Deku, I'm sorry if I said anything wrong. Please stop crying. Please say something. Deku, please." The poor girl was close to tears as well as a few others. If only they knew what to do.
Luckily for them, someone did know. "WAKE UP NERD!" There was an explosion on that could wake up a rock. "IT'S TIME FOR CLASS! SO, PAY ATTENTION!"
It all happened in the blink of a second. The cloud that hovered and coiled the boy was suddenly blown away by the explosion. The dullness in his eyes disappeared as life shined into them once more. His tears stopped flowing as well. "Huh? Kacchan what happened just now?"
Bakugo stood proud with his usual scowl. His hand firmly on the poor boy's desk; leaving perfect burn mark imprint. It was a typical sight. Nothing the boy hasn't seen before. "You were falling asleep nerd. That's what happened. Seriously, class is going to start soon so wake the hell up," he spat before swiftly turning his gaze away. Its heated wrath aimed at his classmates. None dared to speak.
"Oh, sorry must have dozed off a bit. Hahaha..." It was like they turned on a switch. Or more so flipped back the switch to the Izuku they were more familiar with. The one that smiles all the time. The other Izuku one complete vanished and the current Izuku seemed to have no recollection of him. It was strange to see the boy casually touching his cheeks while he questioned why they were so wet. They all knew the answer, but none were brave enough to say anything about it. They just stared at the boy while he wiped away the evidence.
"But Deku." A firm grip on her shoulder forced her mouth shut. Uraraka turned to meet the flaming eyes of Bakugo. They were giving her a warning. Shut the hell up if she knew what's good for her. She glazed back to her dear friend who seemed back to normal. Although he looked very confused. He couldn't remember at all. That might be for the best. Defeated she returned to her seat.
The others were about to follow but not before Bakugo caught the duel quirk user's eye. He said something to him. Something that only he could hear. "Don't talk about Deku's old man. He's not All Might if you're that desperate to know. He was cool but not All Might. If he was..." for the first time Bakugo's tough-guy act showed cracks. His hand trembled and tighten at the boy's shoulder. It was like he was using him for support. His eyes were hidden away in his spiky ash-blonde locks, but his expression wasn't. It was easily to see the pain of his quivering lips. "Forget about it." Just like that the conversation ended.
Unaware of anything that happened, Aizawa entered the room and was hit with a depressed aura. It's normal for kids to feel like this on a Monday morning. Heck, he feels their pain. However, there was something different about their energy. It was sadder. He knew one of his student's family member is in critical health so that might be it. No matter the day must go on. "Alright, just to let you all know. This you'll be choosing hero names today. So, start thinking. Now let's see who's here."
Hero names? Izuku wondered. That's a good question. What could I use as my hero name? He thought back to the good old days of him playing with his mom. He always wore this All Might onesie everywhere he went. He loved that oneise. He's willing to bet his mother has it hiding somewhere too. He would always pretend to be his beloved hero idol even going as far as to come up with similar names like All Might juror. It was embarrassing but what can he say. He loved All Might so much as a kid. Yet he knows he's not ready for a name like that. As much as I would like to have something like All Might I'm not strong enough. I would only be a disgrace. So what? He remembered a conversation he had with Shigaraki recently.
***Flashback***
"So why did that blond kid call you Deku anyway?" asked lazy the villain as he leaned back and stared at the ceiling. "A nickname? He didn't seem very friendly to me. Especially, after he when he went on a rampage after they said you couldn't fight."
It was so obvious who he was asking about. "Oh, you mean Kacchan."
Shigaraki eyed the boy with a questioning expression. "Kacchan? What kind of sissy name is that?"
Frantically, Izuku waved his hands around. Luckily Bakugo wasn't there to witness to this whole exchange. If he was it would be very messy. There would definitely be a few good holes in the walls. "No no, that's not his real name. Just a nickname I gave him years ago. That's what Deku was too. An old nickname," he explained. "You see if you look at the characters of my name it could be read as Deku and it means…"
The boy's sudden silence made the villain pause in thought. He glanced at the boy who hanged his head in shame. It was easy to get the hint. "I'm guessing the meaning isn't as cutesy as it may sound."
Izuku nodded confirming the villain's thoughts. "It meant useless. Defenceless Izuku. Since I was diagnosed quirkless that the time it seemed pretty fitting." In the past, he would have let this feeling of sadness weigh on his mind. But he's stronger now. Deku doesn't need to mean useless. He can change the meaning. "Coming to U.A, meeting everyone and getting some real friends. I know Deku doesn't mean useless. It means can do! I will do whatever it takes to be a hero," he proclaimed proudly to the villain who listened to each word carefully. Izuku's shine was back while he fondly remembered his first days of U.A. his life turned around. "One of my friends even said it would be a cute hero name."
It was at the point Shigaraki couldn't whole his laughter. "MWHAHHHAHAHA! Oh, that's rich. Perfect even. Hahaha hahaha!"
"Huh? What's so funny?"
The villain was sliding off his chair from his laughter. Izuku could do nothing but blankly watched him with a clueless expression. "Hahaha! Don't you get it? Deku and insult being used as a hero name. That's the biggest 'fuck you' I have ever heard. Ahaahahaaah! Like just imagine the look on the asshole's face as you announce Deku as your hero name. I bet it would be priceless. You need to take a pic of it. I will pay you if you do."
"Whoa there. I never said Deku was going to be my hero name."
"Hahahaha…" Shigaraki laughter stopped abruptly. With a calm yet serious expression, he looked at the boy pass his mess of bangs. "Why not?" Izuku remained silent. He didn't have an answer for that, so he was at a lost. Before he could even come up with an answer Shigaraki continued: "it's got a story. I inspirational one at that. the public would eat the shit up. It has a positive meaning that matches you to a fucking T. Plus it's cute and easy to remember. A pretty good hero name if you ask me."
***end***
Izuku remained seated at his desk replaying those exact events in his mind. Especially that one question. 'Why not?' Soon a grin formed from ear to ear. "You know what Tomura. You're right." He finally has an answer. One by one each student presented their chosen names. Some were accepted with roaring applause. Others not so much. King explosion murder? Seriously, Kacchan? Eventually, it was his turn. Proudly, he marched to the front of the class with his board hidden in his chest. He turned to face his class. "I thought it would be hard picking a hero name for myself at first, but the more I thought about it I knew it had to be this." He turned his board to the class and was met with mixed results. Some were slightly concerned knowing what the name used to mean. Others were glad and thought the name was fitting. One had a bitter look of annoyance but the wasn't such a surprise. Someone asked if he was ok using that name but Izuku was quick to answer. "No doubt about it. Deku has to be my hero name."
"Woohoo! It's perfect for you Deku!" Uraraka cheered with a standing ovation that won over most of the class. It made the boy red as he hurried back to his seat.
Lazily, Aizawa popped up from his sleeping bag. "Ok anyone else?"
"Uh there's one but they're not…"
Izuku glanced at the empty seat not too far from him. It was very unusual for this student to be missing, but considering the circumstances, it is also understandable. Iida's still with his brother. It was all over the news some villain got him. I hope Iida is ok. His bother too. The class continued with the announcements of internships. Many of his classmates got offers from various hero companies. However, it was a surprise to his name was one of the top 3 that got the most recommendations. The only people higher than him were Todoroki and Bakugo. Their recommendation list almost doubled his own. Still, it made him all giddy. Once the bell rang for lunch each student was given a list of their requests. They were told to think it over during their free time. For Izuku, some of the names were instantly recognisable. "Yoroi Musha asked for me! And Edgeshot too!" He couldn't hide his fanboy excitement. He could barely keep in his squeals in.
"Wow, two top heroes? That's lucky, Midoriya. You going to choose one of them?"
"Maybe. Yoroi Musha is old but he's been in the hero business longer most. He might have some words of wisdom for me. That and his swordplay skills are incredible. He could teach me a thing or two. You know perfect my current style and all. However, Edgeshot is higher in the hero ranking and is a tactical genius. His shinobi skills are also top-notch. They might be useful when using my primary lead. Find and collect information the sending them off easily. Still, I'm leaning more on Yoroi Musha if I must choose either of them. I feel like I would be better studied with him…" his words were at a complete loss when he scanned through the other names. He just couldn't believe his eyes. As much as he respected and adored the other two, he just could pass up the opportunity to work for this agency. For good reason too. "Sir Nighteye asked for me!" his squeal was so high pitched it broke a few eardrums. "Sir Nighteye. Thee Sir Nighteye. All Might's old sidekick. I have to work for him."
"You really are an All Might fanboy huh, Deku?"
His cheeks burned pink as he hid behind his stack of papers. "Well, he is a well-known hero that worked for the number 1 hero. Anyone would love to work under him. Even if it's just for a like while…" something caught the corner of his eye instantly. Something small and black and white. In an instant, his body reacted. "Kurama!" he called out and instinctively rushed out the doorway. He wasn't the only one with fast reflexes. The second the young hero stood up the fox bolted.
"Midoriya wait!" the dual quirk user tried to call out, but it was too late. The other young hero was gone. Disappointedly, Todoroki peered into his chest pocket. There was a golden shine shimmering out from its shadowy hole. Another missed opportunity. "I guess I'll ask later."
Unfortunately, for the hero, the fox wasn't only fast he was small. He easily rushed between the cracks in the cowards of wondering students. It was the beginning of lunch, so students were already flowing out of class and flooding the hallways. It made finding the fox a lot more difficult. "Kurama!" he called out again, cutting through the crowds as best as he could. The fox didn't stop nor turned back. What's with him? That's all the boy could think about as he rushed forward. Eventually, he bumped into a student. It was bound to happen but who he bumped into was an interesting coincidence.
"You really should watch where you're going," said a tired voice.
"Sorry I was in a hurry," Izuku apologised not even paying attention to who he was talking too. "You haven't seen a fox…" then he released who he was talking too as he met with a pricing violent gaze. "Oh! Hi Shinso."
The brainwash quirk user sighed while cracking his neck. "You're weird. Seriously, why couldn't you have been this talkative when we fought."
Laughing awkwardly, Izuku straightened himself and tried to strike up a conversation. "Oh yeah…so how you been."
Shinso paused and eyeed down the smaller boy. It's rare for anyone to talk so casually with him after finding out his quirk. Then again after his brief meeting with this kid, he could figure out he's got a few screws loose. "I'm fine…just looking for uh…I think his name is Aizawa. I got this note saying he wants to see me."
"Oh really," Izuku's eyes lit up at the name. "You know now that you mention you two would be great together. Aizawa could teach you a thing or two. His's quirk isn't offensive either and is kind of scary for this day and age. But still cool. He's an underground hero too which helps him surprise unexpecting opponents. He could help you the more now that I think about it. The lesser villains know of you and your quirk the better. That and he's great at close combat. Oh! He could give you some training tips…"
Izuku just rumbled on and on about how amazing Easerhead was as well as how underground heroes work. He would be a perfect fit to teach him that much Shinso could tell, but this kid didn't need to recite an entire essay about it. He just kept going on and on with no end in sight. It was no secret that the brainwash user was getting annoyed. The headache was a pretty good sign of it. "Midoriya."
"Yes?"
"Be quieted." On command, Izuku's eyes became can as his words were lost. Once again Shinso let out a heavy sigh. "You would have been such an easy opponent. Now I'm going to snap you out of this. Then you will tell me where I can find Aizawa." With a good flick on the forehead, Izuku groaned awake.
"Sorry about that," he said while rubbing his newly acquired red mark. "He's probably in the teacher's lounge by now. Either that or still in my classroom. Last one down this hall. If you see someone in a bright yellow sleeping bag that's him. Oh, and have you seen a fox? A black and white one." With that out of the way, the other boy nodded and casually pointed a thumb behind him before going on his way. Izuku spat out a quick thank you and ran off at full speed. He rushed through the U.A hallways trying to find even a glimpse of that slippery fox. Sadly, it appears he lost him again. Defeated, the young hero slumped down on the wall and sprawled his legs across the floor. "Now what?" he asked himself.
As soon as he said that a hand reached down for his. "Are you ok?"
The boy looked up to see an angelic light or maybe it was just the ceiling light. Either way, there was a girl right there offering a hand. Her head was lit up like there was a halo over it. The best part was he knew this girl. It was easy to recognise that thorny vine hair. "Oh! Y-yes I'm fine," he replied while accepting her hand. "You're Ibara Shiozaki from B class, right?" he asked as he was lifted back to his feet. The girl gave a simple nod which was returned but the boy's bright smile. "You kept your hair short. It's cute."
The sudden compliment made the girl blush. She shifted her eyes away from that blinding smile. "Yes, I thought I would try a new look. I could always regrow it later."
"That's interesting. Is there a limit to how much it can grow?" Before he could go off on another tangent, he slapped himself. He didn't want to waste any more time. "Never mind that have you seen a black and white fox!" he yelled out; eyes engulfed with desperation and hope.
Shiozaki Didn't know why surprised her more. The fact the boy suddenly slapped himself. Or the fact he suddenly yelled for a fox of all things. Luckily for him, she did see the little critter running about. Not too long ago in fact. She informed the young hero that it bounced right by her and scampered into one of the teacher's offices. She then pointed to the door making the young hero's job so much easier. He bowed as much as he could in a couple of seconds before saying farewells.
The boy rushed to the office door. Once quick glace made things somewhat clear. "Mr Yagi? Kurama has been hiding with him this whole time." A part of him thought it was a little strange. The two of them don't seem to be on the best of terms. Then again All Might had been acting a little strangely after the sports festival. Or more so he hasn't seen him as much this week outside the odd class or two. He assumed he was busy, but could he have been busy hiding the little fox from him? That could be it. However, Kurama could easily scare his mentor to silence from what he's seen. Then again maybe they've gotten closer throughout the week.

*knock knock*
Still no response
"I know you're in there, Kurama." Or at least I hope you are. "Come on talk to me it's been a week."
"…"
"Kurama…if this is about the sports festival, I already said I'm sorry. I'll try to control One for all better. I'll figure something out, so I won't get hurt. I promise. So please talk to me." Izuku begged beyond the door. He begged and begged, given the doors a few good knocks every so often. Passer byers would occasionally give him an awkward stare, but most decided it was none of their business and continued their day. There were some whispers here and there between them. "Kurama…" Izuku whined. His legs gave way as the exhaustion finally hit him. The boy could barely continue knocking. "I miss you." His last resort. "I really do." He already apologised so many times now. He was practically a broken record at this point. So, he might as well sing a new tune. "It's really weird not having you around the house. Mom noticed it. She knows you come by since your food bowl gets empty at some point. But you're never at dinner anymore. Sometimes we'd wait a little longer just to see if you'd come. Tomura noticed as well. He's doing pretty good by the way. He always notices when somethings wrong. I think I can even call him a friend now. He was kind of concern for me in a way. Yelled at me to just make up with you. Hahaha…he's such a kid sometimes. So blunt." There was still only silence. A part of him wonders if he's wasting his breath. Is the fox even their still? "You know they're thinking of signing him to a rehab program. A proper one. Seeing him interact with me was a big reason according to Mr Naomasa. Maybe one day we can hang out like normal friends. That would be cool right? I'd love it if you would be there. I think you two could get along well. I hope. So please…can stop being angry at me…please…" he didn't know when he started but somehow, he curled himself into a ball. Tears just ran down his face. Like a sudden wave crashing across the sandy shores, he realised just how much he missed his little pet fox. It's only been a week, but it felt so much longer. Too long. "Please…I don't like you being angry at me."
"I'M NOT ANGRY ANYMORE YOU IDIOT! At least not anymore." Cried the voice he missed so much.
"Huh?" Izuku jerked his head up at the sudden familiar voice. It's been too long. "Then want's wrong? Why have you been avoiding me?"
"You're such an idiot at times Izuku." The fox started. His voice cracked ever so slightly. "A selfless stubborn idiot." Izuku could hear the slight tremors of something hitting the door with each word. Was he in his human form? "But I'm the bigger fool." His voice wavered more into a whimpered. Izuku could almost hear the tears falling down his face as well. "I should have never let you fight alone. I should have been there. Right by your side protecting you. I am you're Servamp and it is a Servamp's duty to protect their Eve. I couldn't even do that. I failed." Is that want he was thinking this whole time? As Kurama's cries grew louder Izuku's seemed to stop. He just sat there on his keens listening intently at his Servamp's broken voice. "You got hurt because of it. This wouldn't have never happened if I disobeyed you. Forced you to let me fight with you. I could have protected you, so you didn't need to use that stupid power. But no. I didn't. I gave in to your stupid demand and let you go on your merry way. Look where that got you. A broken arm and scares to boot. That would have never happened if I was with you. I should have been with you. I failed you. I can't look at that arm and be remained of my failure. I'm supposed to be sensei's perfect creation. For me to fail this badly…he must be rolling in his grave. I failed you, I failed him I failed myself. If anyone should be sorry it's me. I couldn't do anything but watch you break your arm and get blazed with fire and ice. I'm so sorry Izuku." Then he just cried.
Now that Izuku thought about it this was the first time he ever heard Kurama like this. He was always kind of cheerful, mischievous to the point of scheming and mostly calm. Sure, he could get aggressive. He'd lashed out many times. But Izuku never heard him so sad before. It was usually himself that was the emotional one. Crying to him when he was a child. It was refreshing in a way. "Haha…you know you're pretty stupid yourself, Kurama."
"Oh? And what makes you say that," Kurama spat highly offended.
"Because you've been avoiding me this whole time for something so silly. You didn't fail me. You did what I wanted you too."
"And you got hurt. I couldn't protect you."
"I didn't want you too!" Izuku augured back with an uncharacteristically. "Like I said I wanted to see how far I could go on my own and it was pretty far. I learned a new tick for my lead. Your sword fighting training showed and I'm pretty good now. I won against Todoroki somehow. Sure, I've broken an arm and passed out for the rest of the festival, but I won. It was bittersweet but I'm thankful. You let me see how far I could go and I'm sure I can go further next year. I just need to learn how to use One for all and…"
Izuku thought back to that final fight. That final move. He still doesn't know what to make of it. He doesn't know how it happened. Why it happened. Heck, he doesn't even know what happened to begin with. He tried. He tried to recreate it. The rainbow sword and shield but nothing. Then he remembers those shadow figures and the man with the parasol. He hasn't seen them since they sports festival, but something told him they were responsible for that anomaly. Maybe he didn't win on his own like he wanted to. Then again were they even real? It was like a weird dream. The fact he hasn't seen them since made it seem more like one. Even so, it made him more determined to get stronger regardless. "I'm grateful you let me fight on my own like that. So please don't say that you failed me. If anything, you succeed. I would have been really mad at you if you ignored my wishes."
"…really?"
"Really."
"Wouldn't…sensei be mad at me?"
Izuku raised his eyebrows. This the first time he heard Kurama mentioned anything about a sensei. Who is this sensei? A question for another day. "I don't know who this sensei is but I'm sure whoever they are they'll understand. You only did what I asked you too. Isn't that a part of a Servamp's duty as well?"
*Creak*
A little white paw poked out of the door crack. Beyond it was the refection of a tear stained red eye. "Yeah… you make a fair point." Then the fox bolted into his eve's awaiting arms. Of course, his eve happily accepted him and cuddled him close. "I'm sorry. I missed you too," he whimpered hiding his face into the boy's uniform.
Izuku could feel the dampness growing but he paid no mind. Lovingly, he stroked his fox's head assuring him everything is alright. "Are we friends again now?" Rubbing his face clean, the fox lifted his head to meet the eyes of his eve. Those green orbs showed such purity and love. How could he even begin to say no to those eyes? so, he gave his usual single nod and curled into his arms. The fox then spotted the boys scarred arm and buried his head deeper into the child's chest. Smiling softly, Izuku stroked the small fox with the same arm. "See it's fine. I can still use it. It's not like I lost it or anything."
"Please do not put that image in my head," the fox groaned making the boy laugh a little.
"I see you two have finally made up."
Izuku lit up at the voice. "Al…I mean Mr Yagi. Yes, I have," he greeted his mentor who just wandered into the scene. He was in his normal skeleton-like from holding a bento box that looked far too big to just be his.
He smiled happily to see them back together again. "Perfect timing, I needed to talk to you both about the upcoming internships. How's about we talk with some lunch my treat," he said while holding out the oversize bento. "I got some more salmon sushi," he teased while catching Kurama's complete attention. The little fox jumped at the sound of possibly getting some of his favourite fishy delectable dish.
Happily, Izuku nodded while his little fox drooled at his imagination. "Lunch sounds great and I been meaning to ask you a few things. There's a hero I'm interested in that asked for me. I was wondering if you could give me some insight on them. You were pretty close in the past."
"Really now…" Toshinori was slightly wary to ask who it was. He had a couple of ideas none of them all too great. Still, he hoped he could convince the boy to take a different one. He's not proud to admit he isn't the best teacher to teach him how to use One for all. At this point, the kid needed the help. "Well, there's someone else from my past that asked for you. His name is Gran Torino and honestly, I think he's your best bet to teach you how to use One for all. He was the one who taught me in my younger years. He was also a good friend of my mentor. The previous one for All users before me."
"You don't say," Kurama joined in intrigued but not in the context of the conversation. Oh no, his eyes were more interested in one other thing. "Say No Might. What's wrong with your legs."
"Huh? What you mean?" he tried to laugh it off. Although it's clear to both the fox and his successor that they were shaking the branches in a storm. The fact his legs were pretty twinge like to being with helped with that analogy. Honestly, they were both worried about the man's health. Those legs looked like they could break at any second. "You should go, my boy. He's a little rough but I'm sure he could help you…better than I can." He could barely say that last part through his gritted teeth. "Come on let's just get inside and talk over lunch."
Meanwhile…
Young Tenya Iida sat defeated. Right next to him is his older brother. A hero. At least that's what he used to be. He doesn't look so heroic now. Not while covered in bandages nearly head to toe and attached to an oxygen machine. It's still unbelievable no matter how many times he looked at it. His brother was one of the best hero's out there. To see him like this…Iida clenched his fist tightly. His lip was close to bleeding with the amount of pressure his teeth bite on them. How could a villain do this to him? His legs were completely paralysed. Without them…the realised hit him again. Again, the tears fell. Is this the end of his brother's hero career? It can't be. It just can't be!
"Tenya," a lady hesitantly popped her head into the room. She didn't want to be there longer than she needed to. It was too painful. "Your school sent me an email about your internships. They gave me a list of agencies that asked for you." He handed the phone to the young boy. He scanned through the names in haste looking for any of them to sand out. "We would have asked for you too but with what happened to your brother. I don't think myself, or your father can take any interns this year. I hope you understand."
Firmly, Iida nodded understandingly and gave the woman a kind smile. "It's ok mother. I am aware. In fact, I see an agency here that looks interesting. I think I'll intern there."
"Oh? That's wonderful dear. Make sure to send a request to your teacher before the weekend. I'm sure any agency would be happy to have you." The woman then hurried her way out the door. She could bear to see her own flesh and blood in that condition for long. She didn't want her other boy to see her cry again. It's hard enough to keep it together.
Alone once again, Iida eyed the agency list. The agency didn't matter. The location did. It had to be in Hosu. He had to find the scum that did this to his bother. Luckily, there was one agency that had what he was looking for. It was a small one. He hasn't heard of the hero who runs it either but that didn't matter. All that did was revenge. "Don't worry bother I'll make the villain that did this to you pay. I swear to you. I will not rest until he's behind bars." Then he stood up and gently touched his brother's hand. It was cold but there was still some warmth thank god. After a little goodbye, he marched out like a man on a mission. His eyes only had one target in mind. "You better watch yourself. Hero killer stain."
Back in U.A, it was nearing the end of the school day and the young Todoroki has yet to do what he attended for a while. He stared at the golden tickets in his hands. He had these things since the beginning of the week and now the show's tonight. There's no time left. What am I going to do? He wondered to himself. If I don't do this now these will be useless. I only have one more chance. He glanced at his target. The green hair boy was happily chatting away with his usual group of friends plus one new member. The fox. Instinctively, he rubbed his neck. Despite the time passing, he could faintly feel the warmth of the fox's hands. How the coiled and tighten around him. He even forgot to breathe for a good few seconds. He had countless of chances before. More so with the fox out of the picture through most of the time. Now he's back in the picture it might to be the best decision to go. Still, he can't afford to miss this last chance and waste the tickets his brother gave him. No doubt he would complain endlessly to him. No scratch that he was never one to complain so openly. The silent treatment is more like him. Not like that's any better. His eyes drifted back to the tickets again. He must at least try. He can't let a little fox scare him now. Summoning what little courage he had, he marched over as calmly as he could. It got harder to stay calm when the fox caught wind of him. In a matter of seconds his red eyes shot to his direction. Its ice-cold gaze was enough to slow him but not stop him. It was lucky he had enough resolved to keep going.
Soon, Izuku himself noticed his approach. "Hey, Todoroki. You need something?"
Without warning, he whipped out the golden tickets towards the boy. "Come with we to my brother's concert tonight," he demanded bluntly socking most of his classmates while simultaneously gaining their attention.
The sudden random question caused Izuku to pause. His eyes travelled to the golden tickets. He didn't know what they were, but they looked expensive and fancy. Several questions popped up in his head: What are they for? Why me? How much were they? But the one that popped out of his mouth was, "you have a brother?" It sounded so stupid coming out of his mouth and was an instant regret in his part. "Sorry I didn't mean to sound rude or anything. I didn't even know you had a brother. Then again you did say you had siblings. I guess it would make sense that you would have a brother. Or sisters. Sorry, I'm rambling."
The boy shook off his apologies. "It's ok. We haven't talked until recently. So, you want to go or what?" he asked again bluntly.
"Oooh, so bold," of their classmates cooed making some others giggle around them.
"I..uhm…" Izuku's brain was still grinding its gears trying to figure what his next move should be. "Uh…why me?" Not the best way to phrase it, he knows, but he couldn't help but ask. It's not like they were the best of friends yet. That and it kind of came out of nowhere.
Sheepishly, Todoroki darted his eyes to the side and attempted to hold back the heat on his cheeks. "Well, my bother gave me the tickets and asked me to bring you along. Don't know why but I thought I might as well ask."
"That's such a boring reason. I thought it would be something spicier," one of their classmates whined. So, others lost interest as well.
"A concert sound like fun," Uraraka cheered excitedly. "You're bother's a musician or something?"
With a nod, Todoroki simply answered, "Yes. He's a pianist to be exact. Maybe he heard of him. Licht Jekylland Todoroki."
The was a sudden high-pitched scream in the background. Soon, the squeals of classmates and the scratching of moving chairs and tables. The ansamble of noise were well paired with rushing footsteps and ended with a roar of a desk slam. "Licht Jekylland Todoroki. Thee Licht Jekylland Todoroki. He's like one of the greatest pianists of his generation. He's your brother?" The conductor of all that noise was A class A's musician Jiro. Her violet eyes were wide with shock and excitement while her earphone jacks wiggled around. "That's insane. I mean I know you two are brothers. You don't even look that alike."
"My brother is naturally white haired. He dyes his hair black because he likes how it looks. That and his eyes are a much clearer blue compared to the rest of us. Comes from my mother's side of the family. She's partly European. That's why his name isn't very Japanese." Todoroki spoke calmly clearing out any questions the girl may have. Many have asked him before whenever anyone realised that fact.
A black, spiked ponytail girl nodded in agreement form her set. "Yes, and if you do some digging you will be able to find he's the son of Endeavour. They're just both private about family life." Yaoyorozu added. "He's an excellent pianist by the way. The way he plays is like no other. So calming and elegant. You feel like you're flying to heaven."
"Seriously, you heard him play?" Jiro whined in jealousy
"Yes, I was able to catch one of his shows while he as touring in Europe. It was a wonderful performance."
"Lucky. I hear those ticks cost a fortune." Jiro whined more. Then she sneakily sild closer to the younger Todoroki, eyes sharking with hope. "You don't happen to have an extra ticket, do you?" He gave her a head shake much to her displeasure. Gloomily, she sild away from the group and seek the comfort of her dear friend Yaoyorozu. She assured her if she ever gets the chance to go to another concert, she'll take her with her. That made the sad girl a little happier.
With that out of the way, Todoroki asked Izuku once again if he'd be willing to go with him. Once again Izuku was hesitant. He wasn't the biggest music lover, but it would be rude to turn the boy down. That and his brother did ask for him for whatever reason. That made the boy very curious. Does his brother want to talk to him or something? It's also Todoroki, so it might be fun to hang out with him. Maybe a little awkward if it's just the two of them but still it might not be so bad. After a short debate in his head, the boy decided. "Ok I'll…uagggg." His sentence was rudely cut off as his fox yanked his tie to the point of near strangulation and dragged him to a corner. Once they were far enough, he let go allowing the boy to breathe. "What was that for, Kurama?"
"Say no." He demanded in a whisper.
"Huh? Why?"
"Please, Izuku trust me. Say no." The fox's eyes gleamed with something the boy can't pinpoint. Fear? How silly. Why would he be afraid? Even so, he'd rather not have another fight with Kurama. They just made up for crying out loud. Best of follow along and ask questions later.
Sighing, Izuku turned back to his friend with the best smile he could muster. "Sorry, Todoroki, but I just remembered in have to meet up with a friend this evening. So, I can't go." The boy's eyes dropped in clear disappointed. Izuku couldn't help but feel a little guilty. His fox, on the other hand, seemed relieved. Like he just dodged a bullet. "You could always ask someone else," The boy suggested.
Thinking a bit, Todoroki shook his head and turned to the two girls. "Jiro, do you want the tickets?" The raven-haired girl immediately bounced to life at the question. "Here take them," he handed her both goldened tickets which she accepted in aweing hesitation. She had to make sure she could take them both. "Yeah not like I have use for them anyway. I hear my brother play all the time when he's home and you seemed to want to go. So why not? Better than wasting them. I'll just text him later that I can't make it. I'm sure he'll be fine with it mostly."
Happily, Jiro jumped at the taller boy giving him a good squeeze of joy. She kept repeating thank you while the boy calmly asked her to let go. Eventually, she did and skipped to her friend smiling gleefully. "Wanna come with me, Momo?" That shouldn't be a question. Of course, she said yes. Not only would she love to hear the wondrous melody of lich again, but she could enjoy with a close friend who was equally excited. The tow to them made quick plans to meet each other after school. Maybe even have a little dress up and makeover girl time. Got to dress up as well. It was a classical concert.
All the while, Todoroki watched as Izuku's little fox dragged him out of the class. He wasn't so sure if he should worry since the fox was dragging him by the tie. Controlling the boy by like an amateur puppeteer. He hoped he was ok. Probably was. However, there was this bitterness in his mouth. while his classmate laughed and said their goodbyes around him, he just paused and thought of what might have been. It would have been nice hanging out with Izuku in a newfound setting. No doubt his brother would enchant the boy as he did with everyone. He could vaguely image the awe sparkling in his green eyes while listening to the music. Then there's his smile. That pristine image was enough to bring a small smile on the dual quirk user face. He'll ask him another time perhaps. It doesn't even need to be his brother's concert.
"And that's all that happened today," Izuku wrapped up his little recap of the day while gleefully stroking his little fox. The fox purred at the touch. They were both back together to see the young villain once again at the usual time and place.
Shigaraki was on one side of the glass, as per usual, slouched at his chair. He listened somewhat to the young hero's rambles. He's got a mouth on him, so somethings don't stick too well. "So, you chose Deku to be your hero name. Cool," he said uncaringly while fidgeting with his fingers.
Cheerfully, Izuku nodded. "Thanks for that by the way," he said in a tone that matched the shining smile of his.
Shigaraki tried to act cool as he shifted his head away from that blinding smile. "Yeah whatever," the boy spat thankful his hand mask hind the heat on his cheeks. He needed to think of something to get the hero to stop smiling at him like that. "Also, I told you it would be easy," Shigaraki added. "Just kiss and made up and balm! Here you fucks together again."
"Watch your language," Kurama hissed.
The boy hissed back, "I didn't miss you at all."
"If you say so."
"Don't look so smug at me furball."
Izuku had to hold the fox back before he jumped at the glass. "Well, it wasn't easy to find him," Izuku whined. He tried his best to keep the fox still but that did stop the two of them to have a death glare contest. Just like usual. It was kind of refreshing to see again. "I'm really happy to have him back though." The boy cuddled his fox feeling his soft fur brush against his cheeks. He missed this feeling. Though he there was this small nagging itch he just got to scratch. "Hey, Kurama, why didn't you want me to go with Todoroki? He's a good guy I promise and that stuff that happened between him and me at the sports festival is water under the bridge. Right?"
The villain clicked his tough and rolled his eyes. Knowing first-hand just how protective the fox could be; he had a pretty good idea why the fox would do that. It was clear in his mind this Todoroki kid was making some sort of move on the young hero. Knowing the hero, he was probably too dense to see it. "Yeah, why cockblocked the kid? What did he ever do to you?" he spat under his breath.
Too bad for him, Izuku's ears caught wind of his questions. Although he's not entirely sure that they meant. Innocently, he tiled his head. "Cockblocked? What does that mean?"
"…don't you worry your innocent heroic head." Shigaraki had this strong yet odd urge to pat the pure boy's head. Maybe because of those doe-like confused eyes. They were asking to be petted.
Meanwhile, Kurama was silent. His simile dropped to a frown. "It's not the boy I have a problem with. It's his brother." That surprised both the young hero and villain. The fox was wary to speak anymore into the matter after seeing the interest in their eyes. He'd rather not speak of the matter at all. He wanted to bury the past. Every piece of it, but pieces keep turning up. Little by little. How annoying. "I was hoping the same last name was a coincidence but the moment he said his full name I knew it was him. I met his brother quite some time ago before I met you, my Eve. Let's just say the last meeting it was … unpleasant. We should stay away from him. Trust me on this. Please."
The begging tone of his fox's voice pulled his heart. He wanted to ask more but was too scared to. Fortunately, or unfortunately for him, he wasn't alone. "Sounds like you did some bad stuff to whoever the hell you're talking about. What you attacked him? Maybe killed someone he liked," the villain said fair too casually for anyone's liking. Izuku even yelled at him for that which he yelled back in a much higher volume, "Oh come on! You've seen what that crazy fox could do. I won't be the least bit surprised is he had a couple of skeletons in his closet. He threatened to fucking kill me. Why the fuck, do you have him around?"
The young hero couldn't bear to hear anymore and stood up and yelled at the villain, "You threatened to kill me too you know. I still want you around."
Seeing it as a challenge, the villain stood up to using his height to seem more intimidating. "And that's why you're fucking weird!"
"Can we all move on to a different subject. Please!" the fox cut them both off before they could dig any deeper in the subject. "Brat, did you know they're thinking of putting you into a proper rehab program!" he thought of the first subject the came to mind. Anything to get them both off the current one they have. Sure enough, that got Shigaraki attention more than a little bit. The young villain eyes were wide between the gaps of the hand's fingers. His legs become weak while his chair caught him.
"Oh yeah. Surprise," Izuku tacked on awkwardly. "Isn't that great, Tomura? When you pass rehab, we can hang out somewhere else other than a prison. We can go to the arcade, go to a café or something. I could even introduce you to some of my friends. Doesn't that sound like fun?" the boy said gleefully.
However, he did not receive a gleeful responded. The villain turned his face away from the hero. he couldn't look into those eyes. Not those big, hopeful, innocent eyes. He knew the boy wanted him to be happy but he's not. Then again, he's not mad either. The thought doesn't repulse him like it did when the two of them first interacted. It might be nice. Fun even. To get out of these grey walls and walk out into the sunshine. Freeform cups, chains, everything. To just be normal. Go to an arcade. Get some coffee or whatever. Having this weirdo laughing right next to him. It sounded too good to be true. It was too good to be true. How could he possibly have a normal life after everything he did? After society rejected him. His hands aren't as clean as the boys. They never will. Then there's Sensei. How could he betray him after all he's done? Then again, he'd pretty much left him to rot here. No that's not true. That can't be true. Sensei cared. Right? If he was feeling anything it was confusion. And fear. "There's no way that could happen," he finally responded. "I'm a villain. There's no turning back for me."
"Yes, there is!" Izuku injected passionately. "I know you're not a bad Pearson. Just a little miss lead. In time I'm sure you can be a normal civilian again."
No possible. It's just not possible. Not after all these years of hate and scheming. He couldn't just throw that all away. Could he? Then there's his past sins. Subconsciously, the young villain stroked the dismembered hand across his face. The memories were vague, but he knew what he has done. He looked at the hero before him. His green eyes burned with the same amount of passion he always has. He wonders if that passion will still be there if he knew. "You know I'm a murder right. This hand isn't a prop. I don't know if you forgot or something, but you know that I AM a villain." He said as a matter of fact. He watched the hero carefully. He wanted to see all of it. Just how strong is this hero's resolve. "Knowing that. Do you really think I have a chance to be normal?" The hero's gazed dropped. A sure sign of hesitation. Of course. He should have seen this coming. How could a freak like him ever be…
"It's not going to be easy I know. But I also know if you but your mind to it you could become anything you want to be. You don't have to go back to villainy," the hero responded with such certainty.
Speechless was one of the words that could describe the villain right now. Shocked was another as well as slightly mad. "What the… how the fuck can you believe all that? Are you that naive? I killed people. Hell, I almost killed you. I want to kill your stupid symbol of peace." He doesn't know where this anger was coming from. Was he just frustrated at the other child's naivety? Or perhaps he's mad at himself for having that tiny sliver of hope. Maybe he could have a normal life. Foolish. "Do you even believe I fucking deserve that? Do you trust me that much?"
"Yes," Izuku responded almost instantly. The villain stared at the boy. He looked more determined than ever. His eyes lacked doubt. They lacked lies. It almost hurt to look at them. Their sincerity could burn through any wall the villain could put up. Any excuse. Any half-baked threat. The hero could see through them all. "I don't know everything you've been through, Tomura. I wouldn't mind if one day you'll tell me. What I do know you were hurt by heroes because they weren't able to save you. I've been thinking about it a lot. Why you hate All Might so much. I think I got it now. you're mad because All Might wasn't there to save you or any hero for that matter."
Huh? Shigaraki felt something poked his heart. He never really thought about it before. The young hero wasn't right, but he wasn't completely wrong either. He hated All Might because he hurt his Sensei but maybe that was just more fuel for him to feed his existing hatred for heroes. Why wasn't anyone there for him back then?
"You know it's not All Might's fault or anyone. Sometimes…heroes can't save everyone." It hurts for him to say that. Truly it did. "You can be the best person in the world and a hero could fail to save you. I know…I know it hurts." An image flashed briefly in his mind. It went by so fast. So unclear. He could only see a smile. A warm smile he hasn't seen in a long time. He missed that smile. He wished he could see it again. "You could feel brayed and angry. Heroes try to save as many people as possible but not everyone. I'll probably fail a bit went I become a real hero. I'll try my best not to. It doesn't matter who they are. Where they come from. Villains or civilian. I want to save as many as I can. So, fewer people would be hurt."
It was an odd sight to see. Not like the villain hasn't seen it before. He'd seen the young hero upset before but not like this. There was a solemn aura around him. It was calm yet clearly broken. As if he was trying his best to keep it together or maybe forget. The way he said those things. It was like he was speaking from experience. "Did a hero failed to save you?" the villain asked curiously.
"No," the hero's voiced cracked. "No one failed to save me."
That was a lie? No, it wasn't. Or at least it didn't sound like it. There was something wrong. something the hero wanted to keep for himself. "If a hero failed you. Why are you so desperate to be like them?"
The hero gave a little chuckle. "Really no hero failed me, and I already told you why in want to be like them." for a moment that gloom on the hero's face disappeared into deep thought. I thought for a while at the question once more. He wanted to be a hero because he wanted to be like All Might his idol. He also wanted to be useful and no longer be useless Deku. Help and inspire others that felt like he did. There were lots of little genetic reasons like wanting to help people indeed. Nothing the villain wasn't heard before or could have guessed for himself. However: "if I were to give another reason it would be because there will be more heroes. That means more people will be saved. I want to do my part and save as many people as I can. Even you."
He said that so many times now. That he wanted to save him. The funny thing is Shigaraki's starting to believe it. "Haha…you are something you know. How could someone like you exist? Such an idiot."
"Tomura, are you ok?" Izuku asked with sudden concern.
"I'm fine. Why?"
"Boy, you're crying," Kurama answered.
"Wait what?" Shigaraki took his hand mask off and stroked his face with a finger. It was wet. "What. Why?" the Tears keep rolling down his dry and cracked face. His dry skin sung with the sudden stream of salty liquid. It just wouldn't stop. "This is stupid. You're stupid."
Bump!
The noise brought the villain's attention back to the hero. He was rubbing a new formed red mark on his forehead. Feeling the other boy's eyes on him made his cheeks glow with a similar red colour. "Sorry I forgot there was a glass wall there. I jumped up without thinking and you looked like you needed a hug."
This brought a smile to the villain's cracked lips now on full display. With His hand mask taken off he couldn't hide it at all. He laughed through his tears with such cheer. "See you're so stupid. How could you forget, you idiot?" The villain laughed and laugh that the hero expense. The hero just pouted as the redness travelled to the tips of his ears. Even his own fox betrayed him as he chuckled along with the villain. When his laughter died out, Shigaraki wiped out his tears. There was still a small smile on his lip. "You know, a trip to the arcade with you sounds like fun."
Izuku perked up at the villain's words and gave him his bright smile. "I'll do my best to make that happen."
It was late in the evening, the full moon and stars shined beyond the arching glass window farmed scarlet red curtains. Classical melodies poured through the white cream walls of this brightly lit room. It was furnished with the most elegant furniture. Hand crafted with intricate details and padded with the finest of velvet fabric. The scent of a meadow of flower almost suffocated the room. It was to be expected given the fact nearly half the room was filled with flowers. Some were ribbon together. Others found homes in vases. A few were paired with wrapped gifts. All had some sort of card attached to them. They were nice sure, but nothing could compare to the sounds of wonder that graced the ears of anyone that heard. It filled their heart with a type of peace. However, the slightly muffled melody of heaven was interrupted with a buzz. The unwanted noise made the only listener lounging on a coach frown annoyed. Who dared interrupted his peace? He swiped the culprit off the glass table. His frown only grew, "awe. A mission. Seriously." He messed around with the device and read the details. Yawning every once and a while. Soon the melody ended and replayed with cheers. This just made him more annoyed. He missed the final tones of his wonderful angel. "Such bad timing."
"What's bad timing," the door clicked open. There walked in the cold angel himself. He was dressed in a suit. Simple black and white with a touch of purple on his tie. Smart, elegant, it fitted him well. At first glance at least.
"You got here quick Licht," the man greeted and casually threw the device at the pianist. It was an easy catch. The pianist was skimming through the message barely paying much attention to any of it. He wasn't really in a good mood himself. "Just one disappointing thing after another. First, your little brother couldn't get that little angel here. Not only that but was a no show himself. Now we got ourselves assigned for a mission. Apparently, there's a subclass running rogue. A pretty tough one too that Already took down quite a few heroes. Last known location was Hosu."
"I see," Licht sighed and tossed the device back. "Can't they find someone else. I rather work on this new song."
"No can no angel cakes. Once assigned we're pretty much stuck with this boring mission. I'm sure you and I can take on one measly subclass easy. Then you can work on that new song all you like."
Licht just humped and took a seat at his table. He stared at his reflection form the mirror. His cold eyes staring back at him. He allowed his mind to wonder. Mainly at his small strand of natural hair. He twirled the pieces between his slender finger. Soon he noticed them stained with back. He might he to re-dye them soon. The more he looked at himself the more in notice some parts of his black hair were fade to grey splodges. His eyes then wondered to a signal picture. Despite the fact, the frame looked pristine the picture was clear worn. Some of his colours lost and a corner was partly burned. There were six individuals: the hulking form of his father stood pridefully at the back, the meek yet graceful form of his mother stood close to his side, his sister held one of her hands with a happy smile, her other arm was occupied by the small form of his youngest brother shying away, finally there was him coldly staring at the camera while holding the hand of his other younger brother. Unlike him, the boy was smiling the best he could while using his free hand to wave at the camera. It brought a rare smile to his lips. "Have I ever told you why I dyed my hair?"
"Well, that's quite random. Still, I don't think you have."
"It was an accident. My younger brother Touya was going through a rebellion phase. He wanted to dye his hair to tick off dad. Instead, I thought it was soap and I ended up dying my hair. It was a pretty bad job. There were patches of white here and there, but I liked it. So, I kept it." As he fondly retold the story, he twirled his single white stirp more. It was relaxing to him. All the while his partner dragged a seat closer and sat on it backwards. He used the chair's smooth back edge to lay his head on while his arms acted as a pillow. Then he egged the pianist for more which he was to give. "There's not much more to say other than him being mad I stole his dye. I offered to buy him more, but he said it would be pointless. Dad would just think he was copying me so he wouldn't be mad like he wanted. He just demanded I treat him to ramen and fix the dye job. I kept a piece since I liked how it looked."
"Awe, you and your siblings get along so well. Better than mine." The man sighed as he dropped his arms letting them hang over the chair. "I really wanted to see Tsubaki today. May I'd have better luck than Kuro you know?"
"You think so?" Licht questioned sceptically. "Does that demon even know you haven't gone back to hell yet?"
"Eh?" for a second he was confused but soon quickly understood what he was asking. "Oh! You have a point. It's been 10 years I kind of kept forgot he almost killed me that one-time hahaha." Then he hopped off his seat and twirled showing off his bountiful energy. "It's pretty hard to believe huh, angel cakes. Thanks to you I escaped certain death and fixed the generous gift you have me." He soon stopped to face his partner with a playful grin. One of his hands were pulling on a small silver chain. It was wrapped loosely on his neck and there was only a single silver rounded rectangular plate attached it. Hacked onto the plate was an inscription of his given name. Perfectly intact like it was never broken. "Guess it will be a surprise the next time we meet."
AN: finally done…honestly this would have been done sooner if those personal issues didn't pop up. More than half of this was done months ago for crying out loud. Then exams and other school related things kicked in and I lost track of time. Still it's done. Granted this is a pretty dull chapter. Mainly just tying lose ends and setting up a lot of things in the near and far future. Next couple of chapters are going to be interesting for obvious reasons. Well…When I eventually get around to it. Anyway, on with the reviews:
zero fullbuster, TheLightFairyHearts and Victoria1676 – glad you all love the work so far and here's the update. I don't know when the next one's going to be since I'll be switching back to one of my other works chapters. Still hoped you all like this chapter none the less.
Leafeon12 – I loved making last chapter so I'm glad you liked it. And yeah, I just wanted Izuku to have this little victory. Not a complete victory but a victory none the less. That and I wanted to give him a little more fight for the fun of it. And yes, poor Kurama. Form last chapter and a bit in this chapter. And the hug. Adorable.
Wildtrance – that scene with Endeavour was my favourite scene to write last chapter for many reasons. Yes, know of this work. It is adorable a very fluffy. I love it. But there is another that caught my attention. If anyone is interested look for a series called Neutral Deception on AO3 it's pretty much up to date with everything that has happened so far in the manga. Which is a lot. My god that arc was insanity. It starts with a story called Logical Ruse and it's a real treat for Deku x Shigaraki.
Otakushoujo- oh my we go a big one here. Fun! Let me see. First off feel free to refer to me as Ren if any of you would like. It's a little easier. Also, I am thankful for understanding. Reality hit me so hard this year. And I appreciate the Undertale references. They made me laugh. Also, I don't really see Endevour as a fake. Just overly ambitious to the point of madness and even cruelty. He went way overboard for the sake of his ambitions and that's why he needed a slap of reality. I don't think this was quite was you and anyone else was expecting when the ticket thing when down and Shoto asking deku out. Kind of. Honestly, I probably could have made life a lot harder for little Shoto but I mainly wanted to focus on other things like Izuku's and Kurama making up, more Deku and Shigaraki interactions and quite a few trails of bread crumbs leading to other bigger chapters/ reveals. Away hoped you got your wifi back and reading this little response.
Chasta-Dex Twitches – yes. The feels were very strong.
CallmeCrazylol – hum… I may consider this for something that will happen later. Also, yes. Endeavour's pride is hurting a lot right now. Oh, the things I will do to you sir…although those things aren't set and stone quite yet. I want to do something with you and your three sons. Yes, I said three.
Youknowwho – uh…thanks…I don't really have much to say to this one.
That's all everyone. See you whenever that maybe as we go into the hero killer arc starting with god old Gran Torino. That will be fun. But first I need to finally finish that god damn exam for students of Shinketsu high. I scarped the original draft because I hated it. Now me will build in from scratch. That is going to take a while. Then there's school starting up again…I will figure something out.
