Disappointingly Hot

Steps echoed through the deserted corridor as the four Marauders made their way through it, in silence. An odd occurrence if there ever was one.

Two out of four of the boys were trudging along hand in hand while the others flanked them, looking ready to glare at anyone who even glanced their way.

They stopped, just outside of the Great Hall, Sirius and Remus' palms sweating together as one.

"Oh honestly, come on guys!" James cried in what he believed to be a reassuring voice. "You can't possibly be nervous now?! Especially not you, Sirius. Not after you streamed into the Hall on your broom, completely commando, during breakfast two days ago!"

Remus chuckled despite himself, "It was a sight to behold."

"I bet it got you a bit uncomfortable," Sirius smirked in Remus' direction.

"And, that's enough of this conversation," James said, drawing out the first word and taking advantage of the distraction to swoop around and steer the two bantering boys into the considerable space that was the doorway into the Great Hall.

Sirius shot a glare at James as Remus' hand tightened around his; he offered two comforting squeezes back.

The first person to notice was, of course, Dumbledore, whose seat at the head of the Hall provided him with an easy access to see whoever went in or out. He nudged McGonagall who turned to face him with an annoyed, "what?" Dumbledore gestured over to the four boys.

McGonagall's eyes wandered over to Remus and Sirius, the latter giving her a cheeky wave. She gave them a most un-McGonagall-like smirk and pulled out a piece of parchment and a quill from, seemingly, nowhere.

While this was going on, a boy in Ravenclaw robes had spotted the conjoined hands and was whispering to his mate next to him. And, in an excellent display of how fast Hogwarts gossip travels, the whole Hall was silent within twenty seconds. Many different emotions were illustrated on people's features around the Hall; ranging from surprise, amusement, jealousy to – in some cases – disgust.

"That's so disappointingly hot!" a Hufflepuff girl cried, where there would normally be a flurry of sound. Her eyes widened and her cheeks flushed an impeccable red once she'd realised what she'd done.

An outbreak of laughter made its way across the student body and they turned back around, chatting happily about what had just occurred. Sirius sent the girl a smile and a wink, making her blush deepen.

The fluttering of paper wings made all four boys look up. A small paper bird was hovering above their heads. Remus gently took it from the air and let go of Sirius' hand for a moment to unravel it. Inside, was McGonagall's neat script, portraying the words, 'Who asked who?'

They laughed as Sirius recaptured Remus' hand and gestured, with high exaggeration, that it was Remus who asked.

McGonagall gave another smirk and held out her hand, palm up, towards Dumbledore; who, still managing to look cheerful, passed her five galleons.

The Marauders laughed again as James and Sirius sent mock salutes over to their professors and took their normal seats at the Gryffindor table, chatting happily about the new revelation with their friends.

I sort of enjoyed writing this one; bit of writers block but that happens every time I try to write anyway.

I know many people put slashes as a warning but, quite frankly, I don't think that it should be seen as that :)

Stay safe,

bowwow :)
