AN: I don't own My hero Academia or Servamp
Tragic memory
"Are you sure you two will be ok?" The woman asked concerned while she held a suitcase in her hands.
The man before head nodded his head. "Of course. It's only a couple of days. Don't worry too much, Inko." Her husband tried to convince her.
Their one and only son followed his father's lead. He nodded his head enthusiastically while raising his hands to the sky. "Yeah, Papa will be good and me will be good too!"
"Come on, Inko. You got to have some fun with the girls." Her friend egged her on while she leaned on her shoulder. "The boys will be fine. Can't say much for my boys, but my demon is Masaru's problem for the weekend."
"I'll take care of Katsuki and Mitsuki as well."
"Me too!"
The blonde woman awe and pitched the father and son's duo's cheeks. Both groaned slightly in discomfort, but smile kept their smiles. "You two are such sweethearts. You really won the husband lottery with this one, Inko. Made such a cute kid with him too."
"Mitsuki!" she screamed with a blush
Politely, her husband bowed his head. "Thank you."
"Hisashi!"
Inko hid her embarrassment with both of her hand. This gave the opportunity for her two boys to surprise kiss her on both cheeks. It only further reddened her face. "You go have fun, my treasure. And don't forget we love you."
Smiling, Inko kissed them both. "I love you too."
It was a long time ago, but she still remembered it clearly. Her old high school friends were having a reunion trip. She was hesitant to leave her husband and son, but they wanted her to have some fun. So, she left. Inko remembered their smiling faces as she walked away waving. She still had a hard time believing it. That would be the last time I would ever say goodbye to him, or I love you…the next time I returned home there was police outside our home. Mitsuki who was their neighbour at the time was also in shock. At that moment she only cared about one thing.
"Izuku! Hisashi!" Inko dropped her things and rushed behind the tapes. Anyone who tried to stop her failed. Either the woman was too fast, or her friend was too strong. Mitsuki assisted her friend to break police lines. Even slapped and yelled down a cop or two. All the while Inko rushed to her husband's study. If he was anywhere, he was there. Maybe even her son too. She passed the doors and more police but not her husband or son. They tried to calm her down, but she was too frantic. Anyone would be in her situation. She just needed to know her family was ok. That's all she needed.
"We're happy to report your son is ok. He locked himself in the closet currently. We haven't been able to get him out yet," an officer explained.
Sighing in relief that only left one thing…it was not happy.
The policeman's eyes dropped. "Were so sorry miss but your husband…"
Her eyes widen in fear. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. It just couldn't be true. Her husband found dead in a construction site not too far from their home. Cause of death: murder.
"After that me and my son where taken in for questioning. It was difficult to say the least. I knew nothing of what happened. As for Izuku…he was young. He kept running way and hiding. Usually in a closet of some type. He kept saying that Hisashi would eventually come back…He just needed to wait longer. It took some time, but we were able to find out that the culprit was man, middle age, short hair and had red eyes. Other things that we knew was the man wasn't alone. Multiple quirk wounds were found on my husband's body and some of his research was stolen. They were never found along with the culprit." Inko was trying very hard to keep it together but the Todoroki family could see. With the way the woman's body shook. It looked like she could fall apart. If it wasn't for the fact, she was still holding on to the Servamp in her arm she would have fallen by now. "As you can see since then Izuku has been afraid of people with red eyes. He's been through a lot of therapy when he was younger. I had to ask my friend and her son to wear sunglasses to cover their eyes whenever they visited. He's better now mostly. Red eyes don't bother him as much as they did before. It's just that any talk about his father triggers reactions. Some worse than others. It's pretty much granted if he sees red eyes in that state."
"I am so sorry," Fuyumi cried. "if I knew I wouldn't have…"
Inko held up a hand to stop the girl. "It's ok dear. You wouldn't have known. Me and Izuku have tried to move on. As you see my son never healed completely. This is the biggest episode he had in a long time." Then her attention turned to the Servamp in her arms. He was still frozen and unresponsive. It was more than concerning. No matter what she did the Servamp remain with that vacant stare. "Kurama dear. Please," she begged while stroking the hair out of his eyes.
The Servamp remained still. Any life that was in his eyes were gone. Hollow and cold. It was like he was lost in his own little world.
Having enough, Shoto shot out of the room presumably to try and find his friend. After hearing all that how could he not. The last thing he heard was his sister calling his name. But why would he stop? His friend is doing who knows what in god knows where. The last thing they should do was nothing.
Endeavour stood tall among the emotionally changed group. His daughter was frantically looking back and father between where his son left and the woman barely keeping it together. He could not even describe what was wrong with the Servamp. Oddly enough he looked the most broken. Like a doll abandon by their child. It would be unwise to leave him in that state. Course there was the boy running around his home that needed to be dealt with. So, he decided. "Fuyumi you stay with Miss Midoriya. Try and get that one back to his sense," he said while pointing to the broken Servamp. "I'll help Shoto find the boy."
His daughter nodded in understanding but before he could leave Inko called out with some advice. "If he's anywhere he's in a closet. Also please be delicate with him."
The hero gave the woman a look. It was neither harsh nor soft. It was an odd look for someone like him, but it still suited him. Firmly, he nodded before disappearing into the hallway. From one side of the hall he could hear the desperate calls of his son. Logically, he walked the other direction. Cover more ground. A closet huh? Best place to look then were the bedrooms.
All the while the girls took either side of the Servamp. Still unresponsive. "I've never seen Kurama like this before."
"What should be do?"
"I am not sure. But we have to try and reach him somehow." Inko lean in close and whispered in his ears. She said sweet things, calling his name, anything to get a response. Fuyumi followed her lead unsure of what else they could do.
Still nothing they said could reach the Servamp. It was like he was drowning inside. His biggest fear happened. It couldn't clearly register with him, but it happened. He saw the horror in his Eve's eyes. It was aimed at him. He hated it. something was bubbling up inside him. Suffocating him. His heart was being straggled just as much as his throat. He felt nothing. Heard nothing. There was nothing. Only melancholy.
'Did you really think that boy would have accepted you?'
A voice echoed around the Servamp in the empty void he found himself in. That one line. Repeated over and over. His world became cold. Yes. There was nothing but melancholy.
Shoto was rushing down the halls crashing into any door he could get his hands on. "Izuku!" he called but no response. He ran and ran. His heart beating in his ears. Terrible feeling eating away at him. This was his fault he told himself. Bakugo even warned him not to mention his father in front of Izuku. He felt so stupid for not listening to him. Why did not he listen. If he did, he would not be in this situation. Running around like some headless chicken. The worst part was everything was fine. More than fine. This was easily one of the best dinners he ever had in his home. It was usually so empty with just him and his sister. When his father was around it's heavy. This time it was light. His father's overbearing present seemed to dim with Inko softer tone. Having a friend over for once was pleasant. Watching his Servamp poke at his father was awkwardly entraining. He'd like to do it again if they'll let him. First, he had to find him. "Izuku!"
On the other side of the house Endeavour was calm. With only a slight haste in his feet, he opened the doors to the room. Walked over to their closest and opened them. So far, no child. When he confirmed such be moved on to the next room and calmly repeat his actions. His mind had only one thought. The image of Inko's heart breaking, begging face. She was a civilian in need. He may not be in costume, but he is a hero. As a hero it is his duty to response.
The father and son duo continued their search. Eventually one of them had to fine him. The boy whose heart was currently plagued with melancholy.
Hidden somewhere dark, Izuku was curled up in a ball. He wasn't really sure where he was. He just knew it was dark. Things hanged above him brushing his curls. He pulled himself even closer to his legs. He just needed to wait. That's all. Wait and he'll be here…who was he waiting for again? A sudden pin stuck at this head. Flashes of images burst from his mind. He hated every one of them. Those red eyes. That haunting voice…that smile. The surviving piece of his memory. That smile. His fingernails scratched his arms. "I'm sorry…I don't want to remember," he whimpered.
Suddenly, light pieced the darkness of his hidey place.
Slowly, the boy's head looked up. "Papa?" What he saw was not the one he desired to see. Stern eyes glared down at him. He meant those eyes once before. Back at the sport's festival. The eyes of the number two hero Endeavour.
The man's massive fame completely covered the exit it way. If the boy had any desire to run the only way was through the hero's legs. Not the best of ideas. The hero stared at the boy, scrunched up in the corner. He looked like a small animal trying to hide from a monster. He guesses that analysis was accurate though. His body was leaving through that night that plagued his nightmares. Harping at how weak he looked was not the best way to respond. In the back of his mind he knew that. His mother even begged him to be delicate. Problem was how. If it was not so obvious the man had little experience with small children. He barely ever had too. Unless they needed saving form a villain or other disasters, he doesn't tend to interact with them. That was a job for his sidekicks. Then again, he was a father so how hard could it be. "I am not your papa."
Izuku said nothing. Only stared at the hero with a gaping mouth. They two of them stayed like that for an exceeding amount of time.
It quickly dawned on the hero that he had no idea what he was doing. Should he drag the kid out of there? That was what he did with Shoto when he was being unruly. He was half tamped to follow through with such an idea until he saw the trembles all over the boy's body. The more he looked at him the more the child really looked like a poor defenceless animal. To be delicate as Inko has asked of him was the only way to go. Sighing at this predicament, the hero squeezed his away into the closet. He had to move aside some cloths and boxes, but he just managed to put himself in. He hunched himself into a ball next to the boy and the small pile of boxes he made to wall themselves apart. Making direct contact with the boy might not be the best of idea either. That and he still had no idea what he was doing. At this point only two things came to mind. The boy shouldn't be alone, and he shouldn't push him. His conclusion was to stay with him in the closet. It was all he could do.
Stunned, the young Eve continued to stare at the hero. He couldn't see him that well in the darkness of the closet. The only real source of light was the crack of the open closet door. There was the also the faint glow of flames on this face. They looked more like ashes of flickering embers than flames. The hero said nothing. Did nothing. Just kept the child in company and waited. He didn't know what for…wait second. He's in a closet. Looking closer at the items round him he was in a girl's closet. What with the high heel shoes and the frilly tips of dresses hanging over top. "I'm so sorry," he screamed. "I'll get out now." The boy felt a heated hand clapped onto his shoulder. He turned back to the hero who was faced away from him.
"Don't try to move if you can't," he said simply. "Your legs are still shaking. So, don't force yourself."
The boy's attention then turned to his own legs. Yes, they were indeed still shaking even though he held them so tightly. How pathetic. His already bad vision blurred as he began to wail. He buried his face between his knees. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." He whimpered.
The hero didn't know what he was apologising for, but he listened in anyway. The boy continued to wail louder and louder as time went by. Honestly, Endeavour wasn't sure how much longer he could take it. He kept telling himself eventually the kid will stop. But at this rate he doesn't know anymore. It was oddly frustrating not knowing what to do. He thought of times his own kids cried but he doesn't remember doing anything. Usually, someone else stepped in. Either his wife, the help at the time, or one of his older kids. Funny he remembers that happening a lot. His fist clenched at the thought. Too much.
"I should have done something."
The hero turned to the boy of finally said something other than apologies. "Done what?"
"Something! Anything!" he yelled crawling at his sleeves. "I shouldn't just stay there like a coward. I should have called for help. A hero something!" his mumbles became more frantic and harder to interpret. Still the hero could make out one atrocious line, "It's my fault Papa died that day. if I just acted. Maybe he'd still be here."
"Don't be absurd!" the hero roared. Flames flickering brighter out from their usual placement. The boy jumped at the hero's sudden outburst. The two met eyes again. Izuku could clearly see the fire behind them. "You were a child back then. What hope do you expect to achieve in saving your father? You shouldn't blame yourself for such a tragedy that you clearly did not cause. Stop crying about it!"
Izuku filched at that last line. His smaller body huddled into his corner tighter. The hero also tucked back. Slightly regretting raising his voice. The boy sniffled a few of his remaining tears way. "Still, I'm such a horrible son," he whispered. His tone more stable than he was before. "I've forgotten nearly everything about him besides that night. Mom is too afraid to hang up his pictures to avoid another episode. I don't even remember what he looks like anymore. I've forgotten everything expect for that stupid night. I just want to forget it. Why can't I forget it?"
Endeavour was at a lost. How was he supposed to handle this? He's no child therapist but he wanted to try anyway. He couldn't let this child have a compete mental break down in front of him without doing anything. Controlling his own breathing he put on a voice much softer than his usual "Slow your breathing, boy. Tell me what you do remember."
Sniffling still, Izuku nodded and complied. Taking a deep breath, he told the hero about that night it all happened. He was sleeping in his room cuddling his all might toy. The hero visibly winced at the sentence, but he kept his cool. Well as cold as a guy with a flame beard could be. The boy told him that his father suddenly burst into his room. Scooped him up. He was sleep at the time, but he remembered his father being heart was racing a lot. Sweating quite a bit too. He rushed into his study. With him in hand. he was looking for something, but he remembered he wasn't able to find it. then there was a knock on their door. He remembered his father freezing at the sound. In a split-second decision, his father rushed to the closet in the study and placed him inside. Then he said the words so heavily engraved in his mind:
"Stay here. I promise I'll come back."
His father was known for keeping his promises for what little memory he had left of him. Whenever he promised to get him something, he got it for him and his mother. Whenever he said he be somewhere he will be there. Whenever…he was sure of it. The naïve child that he was he agreed and stayed. He waited. And waited. And waited. A creak entered his room. Someone who was not his father entered.
***Flashback***
Hidden in a cramped space Izuku held his All Might plushie for protection. He tried his best not to cry. The fear and oddity of the situation settled in the longer he waited for his father. A door suddenly creaked open. He spotted an unknown figure through the cracks of the blinds of this closet door. Their heavy footsteps echoed in the eerie silence. Foolishly, he leaned closer to the crack of blinds to get a better look at who it was.
As if knowing that the dark figure stopped. They eerily turned its head towards the boy's direction. Bright blood-red eyes stared back at the child. He stubbled back deeper into his closet. He attempted to hide his scream by covering his mouth. It wasn't enough.
"Is someone there?" called a haunting voice.
Little Izuku prayed to whatever force that might be listening to him. Let this man go away. He didn't like him one bit.
No one heard him. The figure step closer and closer. Their arm reached out to the child's hiding spot. He wanted to scream so badly but someone beat him to it.
"Hey!" he recognised that voice. It was his father for sure. Just beyond his vision was the blurry silhouette of his father. He was holding something in his hand, but he couldn't make out what it was. It was some sort of thick regular item. His father head it high above his head and yelled. "This was what you're after right? If you want it so bad you better come and get me." After that his father disappeared from the door frame.
The figure hummed. He gave once last glanced to the closet door. His red eye stare forever etched into the child's memory. With a final huff, the man leisurely walked way presumably following his father.
Izuku remained still. His heart could jump out form his chest if it wasn't for the fact, he was holding his all might plushie so tight. He was tempted to wonder out. Fined them. find his father but his words rang into his little mind. All he had to do was wait. His father will come back in no time. He just needed to wait. So, he waited not knowing then that his father will never come back. The first promise he ever failed to keep.
***End***
"After all that me and mom moved out of the neighbourhood to our current apartment. I had to go through therapy too, but I never really help. I remembered I had to take those sessions in a closet because I kept thinking eventually, he'll come back. I used to do that a lot according to my mom. When I eventually stopped, I started forgetting. Every memory I had about my father gone. They said it was my child brain trying to ease my memories of that night and everything associated with it. Instead it become the only think I truly remember. I hate myself for it." tears ran down the boy's cheeks again. "I'm the worst"
Carefully analysing the boy, Endeavour remain silent. He listened to the boy's tragic tale form start to finish. Ingesting every word. This child. "If you say that about yourself. What does that make me." he said almost jokily. Izuku turned the hero. Sadness glossed his own eyes. He thought about his own son. His own family. The more he did the more he couldn't think of many good memories either. He was half tempted to laugh at himself. "Tell me, boy. Do you truly not remember a single good thing? Surely there must be something happier you remember."
Silently, the boy thought it over. Every once and awhile he would grip his arms tightly. You could tell he was trying hard to think of anything other than that night. There had to be something. Any small thing. "I know he was a researcher. He studied mythology and the history behind them. Dragons were his expertise. I don't remember much other than his study. It was the room I was stuck in there during that night. I think he was good looking. He was in shape at least and." The boy was trying real heart. He can hear the gears cracking in his heads letting out stem. He just kept coming back to that night. He hated how everything about his father went back to that night. He hated the fear he still had from it. There was to be something. Anything. That was when it hit him. It was small, but it was something. "He smiled a lot."
"Smiled?"
"Yeah. I can't remember his face, but he was always smiling. It was kind smile. I'd be crying and the sight of his smile would cheer me up. He was always really kind." He looked up into the darkness. The faint image of his smiling father appeared before his eyes. Yet again his mind was led back to that horrific memory. "He was smiling that day too…he was a good man yet." A sudden strike of rage hit him. His teeth bared in a growl and he screamed at the top of his lungs. "Why wasn't anyone there to save him! Where were the heroes that night! Surely someone would have noticed. Suspicious behaviour. Noise something. But no one saved him. No one came. Why!"
The boy's sudden burst of anger surprised the hero. Although it wasn't unfounded, or anything new. He has been in this business long enough to know. Sometimes heroes fail. It was a harsh reality that gets gloss over a lot by their usual success. Sometimes they are not around or too slow to react. No one has died on his watch yet and he hoped no one will. Still be could save everyone out of his reach. In the case of the boy's father he was clearly out of his reach. He hasn't even heard of a case like his. He wanted to say sorry, but his pride shut him up. He had no reason to say sorry to something he had to power over. "We cannot save everyone. That is the harsh reality of life," he just about managed to say.
Izuku seemed to understand that. He hurried brushed away his tears. "I know, I know I'm being unreasonable now. Not everyone can be saved." He remembered his therapist showing him this video of All Might. Knowing how much he loved the hero they hoped it would help younger him understand. It did somewhat after his however many something re-watch. "Even All Might said so himself in an interview. He knows he can't, but he wanted to try anyway. Save everyone in his reach. I want to do that to." His eyes lowered. Yet again his mind wandered back to that memory. "He was in my reach, but I couldn't save him. I don't want to let something like that happen again."
"And you won't," the flame hero said sternly. "You're going to be a hero are you not? You'll do want we all do. Save as many as we can."
Smiling lightly, Izuku nodded. "I'll do my best sir."
Then the closet doors slid open again. Standing there red in the face and panting as if he ran a marathon twice in a row was young Shoto. His hand anchored themselves in the side in closet doors. It was the only reason why he wasn't falling on top of them form pure exhaustion. "I…heard…screaming," he panted heartily. His eyes coldly scanned his father on one side before a concern look landed on his friend. "Are you ok, Midoriya?" he asked before eyeing his father suspiciously again. "He didn't do anything to you did he?"
Izuku was quick to deny anything while shaking both his head and hands. "Not really it's fine. Mr. Endeavour helped me a little. I'm fine now. I'm sorry for acting to weird."
"Don't be. My fault for pushing." Shoto's eyes then wondered back to his father. They both stared at each other with the same unreadable gaze. They seemed to have found some telepathic way to speak as the hero nodded. He stood up and walked out of the closet. Izuku soon followed close behind.
The hero looked down at the child while his eyes winced readjusting themselves to the light. "Are you sure you're alright now?"
With a quick yes, Izuku put on his brightest smile. "Thank you for listing to me."
Briefly Endeavour's eyes widen. Something in his chest hummed. The corners of his lips curled slightly while he turned away without saying another word. Shoto stayed back with his friend. Scanning him from top to bottom. He questioned if his father did anything to him. Izuku constantly had to tell him that his father did nothing to him and he shouldn't worry. Of course, with thin walls and the man in question not too far behind, so he caught every word. He was a little miffed that his son would ever assume that he'd stoop so low as to harm a crying child dealing with issues. The irony of that though quickly dawned on him. A lot of things dawned on him today. He stared at this own hands. Thoughts of the pass years flickered through his mind a film reel on two times speed.
'Was it worth it?' the Servamp asked.
Honestly, he doesn't know what to say any more. After all this time doing everything in his power to get even a step closer to that man. Always striving yet failing. It was getting tiring. The talks of the people get at him more every day. He'll never reach him. He can never surpass him. All Might will always be better. He was never the type to admit defeat. He always liked a good challenge but they're only fun if there was a way to overcome it. This challenged stopped being fun along time ago. Yet he kept going. Made so many missteps. All in the hopes of beating an unbeatable challenge. His obsession become so crystal clear it was ugly. His hand then place itself on his cheek. The one that Servamp slapped a while ago. He can't help laughing at himself now. That man has given him several realty slaps in the face. Both figuratively and literately. Then he thought of what that woman said:
"It's not about what you did. It's about what you're going to do…anyone can change they just need to want that…so what are you going to do?"
He stopped beside a mirror and took a good look at himself. He remembered himself younger. Full of confidence that he could take on anything and anyone. Then All Might appear and now his look was uglier. Clearly older. Stress wrinkles here and there. The look of his eyes was the thing that changed the most. They were hard and cold. Almost terrifying to look at. He did not like it. Not anymore. "I want… change."
"Change what, sir?"
He looked down and spotted that the children have caught up to him. His son still had a specious look in his eyes. The other one stared at him with eyes that look too innocent for someone his age. He quickly turned away from them unable to face either. "Nothing. Let's go."
It was raining again. It was always raining here. In his red tinted rain world. Dark and empty. Same as always. Kurama, found himself skinning into a puddle of his own creation. He was staring into his broken rippling refection as he skunked deeper into it. His refection's eyes were hallowed while a steady stream of tears poured down from them. He could not bother to move. It was too much trouble. So, he allowed himself to sink deeper into the puddle. He does not know how long he stayed like that. It just came to a point where his mouth was submersed. Soon his nose. All that was left were his hallow eyes. They will be engulfed soon enough. Into the puddle of his own melancholy.
Footsteps splashed into the puddle. Kurama tired eyes looked up to face a shadow fox. It looked much like those carved statues in front of temples only it was all black and its form seemed unstable. Its outline shifted like static. Its long-pointed face tilted to the side. "Are you really just going to drown yourself?"
Kurama said nothing. Only continued to sink.
"Come now. You should have known better. The pureness of that boy. Did you really think he would accept you if he ever found out? That look in his eyes was only just a taste. Imagine how horrified he'd be once he found out."
No word came out of the Servamp's mouth. not like they could. His mouth was already covered and now half his eyes were.
"Honestly, sensei created you to be stronger than this. But if you want to keep going suit yourself."
Then he disappeared into the puddled. Drowning deeper and deeper. The heaviness of his body weighed him down faster. It was sufficiently dark down there. The only form of like was that small puddle he entered from. Even that was disappearing fast. Evaporating way into nothing. The Servamp was feeling tried. He couldn't see anything, but he was sure he was closing his eyes. He just felt so weak. So, he let himself drown…
Smack!
"SNAP OUT OF IT DUMASS!"
Kurama eyes shot wide open. He groaned at the sudden stinging sensation on his cheek. It was like a hammer punched him. No human should be able to make him feel that type of pain. That was when he noticed how was in front of him. The overdramatic rat himself Lawless of greed. His eyes quickly sharpened to hate, "what are you doing here?"
"Well sorry for saving for form going crazy." Hyde spat back with a pout. He stepped away from his younger brother with his hand planted on his hip. "Seriously he what me worried there. If I didn't interfere who knows what would have happened."
"Kurama!" Inko rushed into crying and held the younger Servamp as if he was her own child. She cried apologies and worries for what he wasn't quite sure. Something about not responding. He wasn't really paying much attention. He was too busy trying to digest what was happening. He remembered drowning. His body still felt heavy from that. Even more so with Inko's weight pushed on him. What did happen again. They were having dinner with the Todoroki then…
"Izuku!" The Servamp tried to jump up but he was soon brought down by his elder brother.
"Hold your houses, little brother. You're still unstable" he clapped on his brother's cheeks and forced their eyes to meet. He was checking every inch of him. Humming in though along the way. "Weird. I've never heard of anything like this happening to any of us like this. Usually the trigger is some sort of disagreement. Or indecisiveness. Not like this. Then again you were made differently from us. It might have just been your fear. An abnormality. I'll have to talk to the others."
Kurama growled. He was so close to ripping into his brother's eyes until he saw the shattered pieces of wood around him. It looked like remains of a chair. Even sharp pieces of porcelain and food speared the once pristine wooden flooring. There were deep claw marks across the edge form where he sat. His eyes soften to confusion. Did he do all that? He doesn't remember that, but it was the only explanation.
Then Fuyumi stepped forward with a snapped chair leg in her hand. She held in over her shoulder like a baseball bat. Ready to swing if need be. "You weren't responding for a really long time and then suddenly this back stuff grew out for your back. It grew a mouth and tried to eat you. We tried to attack it, but it attacked back. It wasn't until Hyde punched you in the face did it disappear," she explained warily. She was a good few foot away just in case it would happen again.
"I see," the younger Servamp attention then turned to his elder brother. "You save me…why?"
Greed laughed like he said the funniest joke he heard all day. Which to him it was. With a play full wink, he spun around backwards. He then stopped and bowed in place while extending an arm. "I'm you're older brother. Why won't I?" he then smoothly griped his younger brother's hand. The young Servamp had no time to reject him as he rubbed the hand affectively on his cheek. "You may not believe it, but I do really want us to be a family. I know we never really were, but I still can't help but want that. I am the Servamp of greed after all." Then he playfully roughed up the younger servamp's hair with a grin. His little brother was being silly.
Kurama snatched his hand back and held it in his chest. His head lowered. Unsure of what to do or say next.
The elder Servamp seemed to expect that and turned to the human next to him. He bowed with a grin while extending a greeting arm. "Inko Midoriya. Pleasure to meet you. I'm one of Tsubaki's older brothers. Call me Hyde. I hope my younger brother hasn't caused too much trouble for you and your family."
Cautiously, the woman accepted the handshake. "No not at all."
"That's good to heard!" he then leaned in and whispered in the woman's ear. "I hope you don't mind keeping this meeting from your son. You see my younger brother doesn't really trust the rest of us for good reasons. To prevent something like this to happen. I advise you to keep quiet."
The woman's eyes wondered back to the other Servmap still slugged on his chair. It was easily to tell he was uncomfortable. Form what she witnessed earlier she knew it was better to listen to the other Servamp and ask questions later. She nodded once and greed said a small thanks.
Stepping away from the woman, Hyde held up a hand with a wave. He gave out an overly happy 'good day' before backflipping backwards and diving out the open window. His head popped out for only a second while he whispered yelled to the only Todoroki daughter. "Hey, Fuyumi, I was never here ok." The girl nodded a response that Greed approved of with a tooth grin and a thumbs up. Then with one final wave he slid the window shut.
No sooner than he did, Endeavour and the two boys walked back to the dining room. The all had to stand back in shock. The mess before them. Plates shattered on one side. A piece of their dining table clawed off and the most puzzling of them all Fuyumi still holding on to a broken chair leg. "What on earth happen here!" the hero half demanded, and half questioned.
Frumi glanced at the chair leg in her hand and back to her very confused father. She was surprised and relieved he wasn't blowing gaskets. For how long that will last she wasn't sure. So, she shrugged her shoulder and carefully dropped the chair leg to the side. "I honestly have no idea. You should ask later," she said while slyly pointing at the widow.
Endeavour got the hit and quickly made a mental note to interrogate his son and his partner later.
After the surprise wore off Izuku was quick to rush to his Servamp's side. "Kurama, are you ok?"
His Servamp looked at him and patted down his curls. They were soft like usual. Almost like petting a small fluffy animal. The way Izuku would lean into his hand completed the image even more so. This image. This pure image is what he wanted to see from his Eve. His soft smile and bright eyes. Those eyes he saw earlier. Filled with fear and anguish. He never wanted to see them again. There was only one possibility he would ever see it again. His eyes drifted to the window where he knew his brother was hiding. His Eve must never know. He will do whatever it takes to hide it. "Izuku, are you afraid of me?"
"Of course not," the boy said almost immediately.
The Servamp nodded and trapped his Eve in a hug. "Izuku, I'm going to tell you something very important. I didn't think it was be best to tell you, but it would seem I have to now. You can't tell anyone else. I hope it will allow you to understand. You see I too lost my father a long time ago." He heard his Eve gaps and felt his body stiffen again him. Gently, he hooked on to his neck and drew his ear closer to him. He whispered a secret for his Eve and his Eve alone. "He was murdered by my eldest brother." His Eve clawed at his shirt and he shivered. He could only image the disgusted on his face. "My other siblings did nothing to stop him. In fact, quite a few of them agreed with him. They wanted him dead for reasons I still don't understand. Even if I did, I would still hate them for it. Sensei meant everything to me. He still does. Having him taken from me without the power to stop it hurt." He could feel the dampness growing on his shoulder. He hated making his Eve cry, but this was necessary. Even so he was thankful for his Eve's tears since they were for him. Smiling, he broken the hug yet kept the boy in his arms. He used his hand to wipe the running tears. He's seen them so many times. This time it felt warm. He placed their foreheads together and stared into his Eve's glossed eyes. "Do you understand now why I don't want you anywhere near my siblings."
Izuku nodded. It made sense for his Servamp to be so warry as well as his hatred towards them. He always wondered about it. Now he knows why he was so reluctant to tell him. He wanted to know more but this wasn't the time nor the place. Beside he was already so drained, and they have overstayed their welcome. But there was one thing he wanted to know that stuck out form his Servamp's words. "Are you sure none of them cared. It's a little hard to believe." Call it a hunch but a part of him believed his Servamp wasn't being all truthful. It was a weak hunch but a hunch none the less. Perhaps it was more so hopeful that not everyone in his Servamp's family would be so cruel. "You said only some of them agreed. Then there had to be some that didn't. Surely, that means they're not all bad."
The Servamp once again glanced at the window. Thoughtfully, he hummed. "I suppose I could reconsider one of them."
As soon as he said that another note of paper slip of paper slid through the gaps of the widow. The words: 'does that mean I can say hello?' hopefully painted on them.
Kuaram's eyes thinned as he summoned and another blade. Once again sliced through the centre of the paper. Inko seeing this for the first time silently screamed. She gave a questioning and concerned looked at the Todorokis who looked at her with shrugs. They had the same questions running through her mind which they don't have answers to. Surprisingly, Izuku was still oblivious to it all. Mainly because his head was tightly in place at the Servamp's chest. He wanted to turn around after hearing an odd noise but couldn't with his Servamp's head gripping the back of his head.
Then the note was silently ripped in half then a new not rolled down in its place with the word 'ASSHOLE!' Screaming from its page.
Kurama smiled smugly as the note retreated and Izuku was free to look around. He noticed the shock and confused faces of those around him and couldn't help but ask if he missed anything. His Servamp smiling so fake as held as sword threateningly his hand. This was enough to silence them all. with the choirs of nos something from the Todoroki them boy turned to his mother. The shock on her face was clear, but she hesitant when she saw the Servamp. His sword gone he held his hands in prayer and bowed his head. Silently begging her to say nothing. Her eyes wondered back to the questioning gaze of her son. She gulped and forced out a smile. "It's nothing to worry about. I think I saw the rat Kurama has been worried about."
"The rat?"
Suddenly a new piece of paper slid through the widow: "Not you too! BTW I'm a hedgehog."
Kurama was quick to step behind the message before his Eve ever had the chance to spot it. "Well then this has been an…eventful dinner. Apologies for the mess though. I don't know what came over me," he said at the glance at the mess corner. He offered to pay for any damages he had caused. Including the holes in the walls, although he would like to add that the chair was not his fault. He was pretty sure Fuyumi broke that one.
Unexpectedly for him, Endeavour held no grudges and said the items were easily replaceable. He was the number 2 hero after all and had been meeting to remodel. That was most likely an excuse to stop Inko's apologetic bowing. It was fine really it was. Despite the serval hiccups both families enjoyed their times. Endeavour especially had a lot to think about. He carefully watched the two young boys talk. His own child couldn't stop apologising while Izuku tried to stop him only to fail. Then he glanced at his daughter talking to Inko. They were also exchanging apologies as well as plans for a possible invitation if the other would accept. Of course, both did. He too truly wasn't against the idea. He found the Midoriya family quite interesting to say the least. The most stand out feature about them was their smiles. They were clearly true and bright. He wondered what Mr Midoriya's smile was like. It must be quite similar if that were all his son could remember. It was a shame what happened to him. His eyes then aimed at the mother. He couldn't begin to imagine what she must have gone through. With no closure in sight. "Miss Midoriya."
Inko turned to the hero from the sound of her name. the hero step in front of her but he wasn't as intimidating as before. His presences seemed significantly softer. Especially, his eyes.
The hero brought a hand over his heart. "I cannot guarantee anything. But as a hero you have my word that if I ever find your husband's killer. I will ensure he faces the full extent of the law for the crimes he committed against you. This I swear to you as the number two hero."
Her eyes widened and gloss sheer brushed over them. "Thank you," she whispered while brushing way her tears before they could from. Then she put on the Midoriya signature pure smile. "Hisashi's case has long since dropped. I lost hope that his murder will ever be found. So, your effort means a lot to me. Mr Endeavour."
Seeing her smile made his chest buzz. It was ridiculously contagious. Softly, the stern hero gave her his own smile. "Please feel free to call me Eniji."
Taken by surprised, Inko bowed her head. "If that's the case please call me Inko."
Eventually the two families had to say goodbye. Eniji offered them a ride home given the fact it gotten so late. The sun was almost completely set. He even offered to personality escort them but Kurama rejected. He claimed that he was all the protection the other two needed. Given what the hero knew first-hand he was inclined to agree. Still being the prideful man that he was the hero at the very lease escorted them to the car a pay for the fare. His daughter and son followed closely behind them. The mother and son bowed in thanks before disappearing into the car. To make room Kurama transformed into his fox from and curled up into his Eve's lap.
Waving goodbye, the car drove off into the distance and the Todoroki retuned inside. There they were greeted by the greed pair leaning against the walls. "Well that was more eventful than I thought," Hyde chuckled. "Sorry about my little brother. I did think he would go wild."
"Yeah the black stuff. Turned into claws. Can I get an explanation for that?"
"No can-do sis. Confidential or something." Fuyumi puffed up her cheeks saying something on the lines of I guess I'll ask Kurama next time. To that her brother said: "I doubt he would tell you anything to. For his Eve's protection and all." The older siblings soon began to banner about who unfair the other was being. Neither side was budging. It only got worse for Fuyumi when she found herself facing against a tag team with Hyde joining the fun. She had no hope in winning and getting answers. The only ones she got was the two of them proclaiming not to worry.
Shoto be lined between them. The day was done, and he wanted to get as far away from his father as possible. That would prove to be difficult as he heard his name being called by that man. With a scornful glare he shot back at Endeavour. He didn't like the look he was giving him. It was soft not stern like his usual. He didn't buy it one bit. "Just because you were nice this one time doesn't mean I trust you!" he yelled forcing Endeavour to remember where he stood. His son stared up at him with eyes of rage and hate. With a commanding stomp of his foot he pointed at his father. "The Midoriyas are good people. Don't you dare hurt or use them." With a that threatening warning established, Shoto marched away from his father.
Endeavour stood there and watch as his son matcher further away from him out of sight. He glanced at his hands and thought of the many things they've done. This day has unexpectedly become an eye opener. Soon he clenched his hand to a fist. "I wasn't planning to," he whispered surely to himself.
The Midoriyas drove away in relative silence. All three members were drained so the silent was welcomed. The lines of buildings blurred past them as the sun light dimmed to night. Still the Servamp had one last thing to ask: "Are you feeling ok, my Eve."
Izuku forced a smile. "Yeah. I think I'm doing better. That and it's been awhile since I last thought about dad…it hurts. The memories still frighten me, but it was nice remembering something more positive."
"I'm surprised you haven't asked about him, Kurama" Inko joined. "you've been with us for so long I thought you would have asked after you revealed yourself."
The fox shrugged his little shoulders. "I always kind of knew and I didn't think it was right. I know how painful it is to lose someone like that. I didn't want to push either of you on a subject that was clearly difficult."
Inko nodded, "thank you, Kurama and know that I am willing to trust you. Please take care of my son."
The fox understood the context of her words and he was thankful for them. She was willing not to push on the fox if it meant the safety of her child. The boy's safety was top priority for both. That left one last thing the fox wanted to know. Something was string inside his Eve. Something scarily familiar. "Izuku, if you ever meet your father's killer. What will you do?"
The there was a chilling pause. It was disturbing how long it took for his eve to answer. The boy smile with darkened eyes. "I'll take him down of course. Send him off to jail. That's what a hero does."
Kurama didn't bother to push further. It would be pointless. He already knew the boy was half right, but he could still feel it. The cold-hearted feeling burning deep within him. A feeling he held himself for hundreds of years. The hatred towards one that wronged you and a burning desire for revenge buried deep down. To think such a thing would be inside his Eve.
AN: and that's the second half. Not much going on other than Izuku having a pep talk and Kurama going slightly crazy.
Also, for the handful that read these I would like to suggest something. Go back to these two chapters and re read a certain scene:
Chapter 5 - during that end conversation with Shigaraki and Izuku. Around the time they talk about heroes again.
Chapter 7 – Izuku's pep talk to Iida about going off a fighting Stain. (this one in particular)
Read those scenes and keep this chapter in mind. That's all I'd like to say.
Shia Rephic – with Hatsume's track record of making things explode I don't know if you want to trust her making a cloning machine. Suppose if you want to risk it. it's like a 50/50 chance of being blown up. Also, yeah. The Midoriyas have somehow soften the very hard shell of Endeavour. At fist he was being polite. Now he kind of likes them and feels very sorry as well as guilty.
zero fullbuster – excuse me for a second. What did I say last time…ah… Well. here it is. Next one might come at some point.
foxchick1- not to worry the little green one was is alright. Scarred for life but fine. As for the little fox hard to say what's going on with him. Hard to bundle him in a blanket when he goes slightly insane. Hope a playful pat from big bro greed will be enough. And a talk in a closet with a big fireman for Izuku. They hugged in the end. Kind of.
Otakumode – Izuku will be fine for the most part. Kurama and Greed relationship has been a fun write. I could have gone a lot wackier but that might have been too much of a tone clash. I wanted to make a fun yet heavily awkward atmosphere that dropped into sadness in the last second. And I did.
Elenore Edwin – well what ended up happening was a pep talk in a closet. And really all the Todorokis stabbed themselves last time. They just had to kept pushing about the father. At least Shoto now knows for sure that it's not All Might.
loveranime10 – Thank you. I hoped it played out well enough for this chapter too.
Next… not entirely sure how it will play out. I know what must happen, but I don't want to make it too long or have to split It into two.
