Kim Possible: Vamped

Kim came back home after a long day at work the week after Amy had finally flown back home, and found Dana clutching a crumpled letter with tears in her eyes.
"Dana," Kim asked. "What is it?"
Dana looked up at her with an expression of utter misery.
A week ago, just four days after they found Kim, Amy's parents finally called and informed their daughter they had finally managed to cancel her original ticket, and got her a new one so she could fly home. Only they also admitted that the Parkers refused to help their daughter in spite of getting that stolen ticket canceled before anyone could use it.
That left Dana without help until Kim had told her she could stay as long as she liked, and she would even help her get a job.
The two had been hopeful again, as Dana was certain she could earn enough to get home on her own and rejoin Amy in time. They had made their plans, and then seen Amy off on her flight, the girl promising to write them once she got home.
Meanwhile, Dana had gotten an evening shift at the diner where Kim worked, which actually helped Kim to a degree, too, since it helped her avoid her during times when her other side's hunger might peak. The first few days, Dana was cheerful and eager and spoke of how well she was doing, and how fast she expected to earn enough to get home and manage on her own long enough to get to college.
"Dana," she asked now as Kim eyed the miserable girl.
"Amy…."
The blonde whimpered, and to Kim's surprise, held up the letter.
"You….don't mind if I read….?"
"It's not much of a secret. Mom was talking to Amy's folks. She…got them pretty mad at us. At me. Amy said her folks demand we keep our distance for a while to prove if we really care about each other, or if we're just…"
Dana paused, snigging again as tears continued to fall.
Kim lifted the crumpled letter she straightened out and began to read. She could tell Amy was trying to be hopeful and supportive, but the fact was, her parents had demanded they stay apart at least a year to prove if their relationship was real or not. Kim read the words, and between the lines, and felt that Amy's parents were just as shallow as Dana's in her mind. They had even demanded Amy change college if Dana showed up there.
"Don't let them get to you, Dana," Kim said as she sat beside the miserable blonde. "You want to stay strong for Amy as much as yourself. In fact, you should write her back and tell her you'll wait as long as she needs, but you still love her. You do, don't you?"
"Of course I do," she cried.
"Then tell her. Odds are, yes, her parents will read your letter. So imagine you're just talking to Amy all the same, but let them know you're not having some childish crush here, but are truly in love and will do whatever you have to do to prove yourself. Let Amy know you're doing okay and will be waiting on her. And let her know she can always write you here," Kim suggested.
Dana smiled weakly at her.
"I can't believe we were lucky enough to run into you, Kim. You're a lifesaver."
"Thanks, but I just… Well, I would like to think anyone would have done the same."
"Not anyone, Anna," Dana told her. "You're special. I hope you find someone, too, that is just as special."
Kim said nothing to that.
"Oh. Oh, so…is that why you were traveling? To get away from someone that left you," the blonde asked as she noted Kim's change of expression.
"It's…more complicated than that. Let's just say I went through some changes, and need time to….figure them out," Kim smiled wanly. "For now, let's focus on you. How about you get a pen and paper, and write to Amy now before you get any more depressed. I would imagine she's anxious to hear how you react to her parents' demands, too."
"Yeah," Dana said. "I just know this is mom's fault, though. She's never cared for me. Even before I came out, she just….hated me," Dana sniffed.
Kim didn't understand how any mother could hate their own child but said nothing as she put a comforting hand on Dana's shoulder.
"Just don't forget you have to go in at five this evening," she said with a faint smile.
"Oh, yeah," Dana groaned. "It's Friday, too. My backside is already sore just imagining all the pinches."
"Do what I do," Kim grinned. "If someone tries, just hold up the coffee pot over that hand, and ask if they wanted more."
Dana burst into laughter now and shook her head.
"Now you're ready to write a letter," Kim teased. "Me, I'm headed for the shower, and a quick meal," she declared. "Long day," she yawned as she headed for the kitchen.
"Thanks, Anna," Dana told her. "I don't know what I'd do without you."
"You'd make it. You're pretty tough, too. I can tell."
Dana snorted her opinion of that one as she went to the battered desk where they kept papers and pens and such things. Kim made a quick meal, just to show herself eating, but she was more concerned with her dwindling stock of blood.
She would have to go out tonight. There was a local blood bank she had been checking out, and it was time to restock. She had managed over two weeks with the girls and now Dana, but so far she had not lost control, or showed her other side to them. She didn't want to start now.

Kim was on her way home, the insulated tote on her shoulder sagging with the weight of the blood packets she had taken from a nearby clinic after ensuring the security system was down, no cameras were working, and even the lights had gone out. She made a point of unplugging one of the coolers she had raided, and that would have the workers looking less than closely when they had to throw out what could be tainted blood when they discovered the unit wasn't working.
It had worked in the past so far, so far as she knew. She saw no reason it would work here as she kept her other side in check, and managed the truth even from her roommate.
She was using back alleys to reach home, not wanting the law to wonder why a young woman alone was walking down these streets when she heard a scream.
Reacting instinctively, she turned, and rushed in the direction of the cry, because she had recognized that cry.
Fast as she was, the attackers were already gone by the time she found the blonde where she had been dragged into an alley and left. Only she had been battered and stabbed repeatedly as much as robbed. Kim scowled as she knelt over her friend, but thankfully saw no signs of rape.
"Dana. Dana, it's me. How bad is it?"
"Anna," the girl rasped. "They…took my wallet. I…. I can't go home…now," she moaned.
"We'll manage," Kim said and noted some of the bleeding from her wounds was more sluggish than it should be. "Hang on, I'll get help…."
"Hey," a masculine voice growled. "What are you two doing?"
A flashlight played over them and made Kim grateful she still had her 'mask' in place or the man holding that light might have been a lot more shocked. Instead, all she saw was disgust and disdain.
"We need help. She was attacked," Kim cried to the man in blue.
"We've got more to do than clean up after you damn junky whores," the man declared, and actually walked off.
"What," Kim hissed.
She heard him talking to someone else, and heard, "Damn whores have to expect to get beat up if they try to rob some stiff. It's not our problem."
Kim felt a dark fury rise and then felt a tug on her arm.
She looked down, and the fury rising in her bled away as she realized Dana was dying right before her eyes. That the blonde didn't have much time left at all. Kim felt something twist in her and knew this was about more than Dana. Amy would be heartbroken. And Kim…. Kim would be losing the only friend that had accepted her since her life turned her into something unnatural.
"Anna…. Tell Amy…. Tell her…."
Kim stared at the battered girl and felt a wrenching fury mingled with grief as she realized Dana really was going to die. No doctor could help her. No one could save her. Except for Kim.
"Dana. Dana, listen to me. I can save you, but….there is a cost," she said.
"C-Cost," the green-eyed blonde echoed in confusion.
"This," Kim said, and dropped her human mask and revealed her other side as Dana stared into glowing eyes and saw glistening fangs.
Dana didn't show any shock. Which shocked Kim.
"K-Knew… I saw you….that night. Knew 't. Anna….."
"Your choice, Dana. This might be worse…."
"Don't….wanna die," Dana moaned, and her eyes closed and stayed closed this time.
Kim stared down at the pale girl and cried out in grief.
"Forgive me," Kim cried and bit into the girl's throat. She drank deep, unable to help enjoying the taste of the dying girl's blood. Then she remembered what she was doing and instinctively bit into her own wrist to put the dripping wound to Dana's throat.
"Drink, Dana. Drink, and live," she told her.
Dana gave a weak gasp and gulped, grimacing at the dark fluid now filling her mouth, and spilling from her lips. Then she gasped again and sucked harder. Harder, and then she was drinking of her own will.
Kim pulled her wrist back after a moment, the flesh of her wrist healing in the same instant before Dana blinked, looking up and stared up at her again.
"I feel….funny."
"Give yourself time," Kim told her and lifted her in strong arms. "We'll get you home and clean you up in the meantime."
"And…. And then what?"
"We'll figure it out, Dana. Either way, once you're…up, we hunt," Kim snarled.
"Kim?"
"Those boys hurt you on purpose. They wanted to hurt you. Those," Kim said grimly as she also considered a less than compassionate policeman, "Those are the kind that deserves to be hunted," she snarled as she easily lifted Dana and carried her into deeper darkness in those alleys.
"Will I….be like you," Dana finally asked as Kim took the alley to their apartment, leaping incredibly high to the fire escape so they could use a window, rather than risk being seen.
"I don't know. I'm….different from most of…..our kind. I don't know why. Still, you'll live. You'll just need blood now."
"So you…you really killed those boys that night, didn't you? That night on the ship," Dana asked absently.
"They deserved it," Kim spat, and used a long nail to open the window to their apartment since she didn't want to be seen carrying a bloody and battered girl into her place. Once open, Kim eased the window up to carry Dana inside.
She carried her to the bathroom, dropped her tote on the bed before she undressed the still pale girl, and then put her in the tub.
"I'll get you something while you can clean up. I'll be outside," she said, and went to her stash dropped on the bed and got them both a blood packet from her stash, and stared hard as she heard the bathwater belatedly running.
She bit deep, and then drank herself, replacing the blood Dana had taken even as she stared out the nearby window and walked over to close it. By the time she returned to the bathroom, Dana was already out cold, dropping into the healing and transformative sleep that would let her rise as a completely different creature.
She carefully fed the girl some of the blood Kim knew Dana would be needing and then dried her off before carrying her to bed and making sure the window and drapes were both closed. She put a quilt over the girl's body and sat back to wait.
