Kim Possible: Vamped

Kim gasped almost as loudly as her mother when Kim walked into Betty's office expecting another mission only to run into her mother who stared at her in shock.

She eyed Betty with a cold glower but the woman just ignored her in spite of the heat in her crimson gaze since it was just after sunset and just then Kim's other side was fully showing.

"Kimberly," Ann Possible gasped. "What happened to you," she demanded.

Ron said nothing, looking sheepish as he stood to one side, giving Kim a look she knew well.

"Not my idea," he murmured just for her ears.

Kim resisted the urge to swear, and just sighed and looked at her mother who looked as if she had aged more than usual of late.

"It's a long story, mom."

"Everyone said you died."

"I….did. I just didn't stay dead. Like I said. Long story."

"How is that possible….?"

"Well," Kim smiled impishly.

"Oh, no. Don't be flippant with me, young lady. Tell me what happened to you, and I mean now. Start with why you look….look….like that," Ann sputtered helplessly.

"You didn't tell her anything," Kim turned on Betty.

"She just arrived. Which was when we called you in, Kimberly. Obviously, your mother has a lot of catching up to do here…."

"I told you I wasn't ready," she snarled and gasped as Ann snapped, "Kimberly Anne. Calm down and explain yourself."

"One moment, Dr. Possible. I think Kim needs to know why we chose to bring you into the fold, as it were. It seems, Kimberly that Gemini has learned of your existence. The odd things of late, the peculiar rumors. We just cleaned out a few moles we had overlooked while focusing on you and your protégé. Still, WEE now knows about you and we have to make sure they don't exploit anyone around you in an attempt to leverage your cooperation. Which means filling in your family."

"Protégé," Ann frowned.

"Later, mom," Kim sighed, and looked put upon even as she eyed her mother with bright eyes. "Look. You better sit down for this one. It really is a long story, and….and not a very nice one."

"What do you mean?"

"Short version, Dr. P. Kim is a vampire now."

She eyed Ron, looked back to Kim, and then looked to Dr. Director.

"This isn't a joke of some kind?"

"Far from it, Dr. Possible," Dr. Director assured her, settling back in her own chair. "Kimberly, why don't you start at the beginning? Ron and I will fill in any blanks you leave."

Kim eyed the woman sourly again, and then eyed her mother, and said, "When I disappeared over a year ago," she said. "I died. A vampire killed me."

"But…?"

"They're real, mom. There is a lot out there that's real. Most of those bogeymen favor the shadows and avoiding people. Some, though, like the creep that attacked us, they're not so careful. Those men we went to find, he killed them. We went into the cavern where we thought they had fallen and….he found us."

Kim slowly told the story from her perspective, Ron and Betty only adding parts that Kim didn't know or skipped over. Like Wade piecing together her trail and leading them to find Kim and bringing her in so they could help. None of them mentioned just how Kim had been staying alive but Ann eyed Kim uneasily now and asked, "But if you're a vampire, too….?"

"Yes, I have to drink blood to stay healthy," Kim sighed and didn't miss her mother paling as she recoiled for a moment. "Only Wade helped by creating synthetic blood that satisfies….me," she said, not mentioning Dana in her own story.

"And….before," Ann asked her quietly.

"I robbed a lot of blood banks," she declared, saying nothing of those thugs or gang members she had attacked.

"Oh. I know stealing is wrong but… Oh, God, Kim, I don't know what to think," she said, and finally just hugged Kim. "But you're still our daughter and I expect you to keep us informed of what you're doing from here on. Do you understand me," Ann demanded.

Ann gave her a weak smile as Kim gave a watery laugh and nodded.

"So, I don't scare you?"

"What's scary is hearing your daughter is lost and won't be coming home. What's scary is thinking you'll outlive your children and can't even bury them. Don't ever do this to us again, Kimberly? Do you hear me," Ann demanded of her.

"So, you aren't too freaked out by….me," she asked sheepishly.

"I'm just glad you survived, sweetheart," Ann said and hugged her fiercely again.

"And dad and the tweebs?"

"We keep them out of the loop for now," Dr. Director informed her. "I trusted your mother to be more rational about meeting you for the first time," she admitted.

Ann eyed her but sighed and admitted, "That is probably for the best."

"Maybe you could tell them you guys might have trouble coming but without mentioning me just yet," Kim suggested. "The boys would believe it if you mentioned someone targeting my family on the basis of an old rivalry."

"They would," Ann nodded. "But, Kim, can't Wade…?"

"He's working on it, mom. I didn't even dare show myself for a time. And his synthetic blood at least helps me live….fairly normally now. No more robbing blood banks," she smiled.

Ann just shook her head at her.

"And you," she turned on Ron.

Ron squeaked, but Dr. Director cleared her voice, drawing Ann's attention.

"I asked him to keep the secret, Dr. Possible. Most people, like you, don't really believe in the preternatural out there these days. We favor keeping it that way to prevent panic, or even new witch hunts while we police the actual attacks that do occur. Kim continues to be a great help in that respect. Still, at the time it was for the best that no one knew that Kim had died…. Apparently died….at the hands of a vampire."

"You mean fangs," Ron said.

All three women stared at him.

"I'll just be quiet now," he grimaced.

Kim snorted but only smiled at her friend.

"So, we agree. For now, it's best the dad and the tweebs don't know about me?"

"I'll have to break it to them sooner or later, dear. Still, maybe we can wait a little longer. Maybe Wade will conjure another of his miracles before we have to reach that point," she smiled faintly at her.

"Anything is possible," Kim teased.

"Just take care of yourself," Ann told her, and hugged her again, if less manically. "And no more chasing things like that….vampire," she shuddered.

"She took him out in the end," Ron reminded her. "Just like she said."

Ann didn't comment.

"Dear God, even I never realized you faced such dangers," she said as she eyed Kim again.

Kim smiled ruefully, knowing her mother had never heard about certain missions. Especially those concerning rogue monkey ninjas and real demons.

"Don't you dare say 'No big,'" her mother declared as if knowing her daughter quite well.

"I wasn't," Kim whined.

Ann only eyed her.

"I wasn't. Anyway, I am glad you're here. I have missed you guys, mom," she said and gave her a smile.

"So, you can look….I mean, you're normal….in the daylight? You don't have to….sleep," Ann asked.

"No. I somehow shift on a molecular base that has Wade stumped so far. I turn completely human but at night the fangs come back out," Kim sighed.

"So, why couldn't you come back and live normally during the day….?"

"Bad idea," Betty cut her off. "We, ah, have another young vampire here that Kim is teaching to control herself. With Wade's help, too, of course."

"You're not experimenting on my daughter," Ann demanded of her.

"No, Dr. Possible. The only research being done on Kim is being done by Dr. Lode who is only concerned with a cure."

"And this other vampire…?"

"Obviously, if the cure is found it will aid her, too. In the meantime…"

"Dana is a really nice, girl, mom. She just got caught up in things she never expected either," Kim said ironically.

"Like you," her mother remarked.

"Mom. It wasn't…quite like that," she sputtered.

Ann's expression was far from convinced.

"Don't worry, Dr. Director. We are keeping a very close eye on her."

"And Dana is nice. You'd love her, too. I think…."

"Kimberly," Betty cut her off. "Perhaps you should let your mother absorb your survival before you discuss the issues with others," she stressed.

"Fine," Kim grumbled. "So, ah, that's about it. Surprise," Kim said in a helpless shrug.

Ann sighed and shook her head.

"You still have my number. You call and keep me informed from now on. Understand me, young lady?"

"I can do that," she said, Betty nodding.

"And be more careful," Ann demanded.

Ron barely cut off his smirking chuckle.

"I'm really glad you're all right. Only we are going to have to have a long talk about unnecessary dangers."

When another agent took Ann home, Kim sagged into a chair and just glared at Betty.

"You never told her all you faced before this, did you," Betty asked her blandly.

Kim's expression was eloquent.

"I do understand. I have a cousin that thinks I'm just a glorified policewoman. I don't bother to correct her."

"I get why you felt you had to bring her in but that was low," Kim finally said, looking grim again as she rose back to her feet.

"We both know you needed to see your mother as much as Dana needed to see her companion. Even without the impetus of Gemini, you were walking a narrow ledge yourself and if you couldn't see it, we did. I suspect even Dana did. Now, accept we knew what we were doing and let's put our minds on managing Sheldon before he makes a mess of things again," she snapped.

Kim nodded at Dr. Director as Ron grimaced himself at the reminder of what the loon could do when motivated.

"Give me tonight. I'll think of something."

"I have my best…."

"Excuse me if I don't trust those experts of yours at times. Besides, what I haven't told you is I'm starting to get….flashbacks from that woman I apparently used to be way back when. Krelandra was a skilled warrior and a bit of a tactician herself. Let me see if I can get anything from her memories tonight," Kim suggested.

"How is that even possible," Ron sputtered.

"Wade calls it epigenetic memory. Or something like that," Kim declared absently. "Anyway, some of that life leaks through sometimes when I meditate and maybe if I try I can touch her mind again."

"There's no danger of her still taking over," Betty asked uneasily at hearing of Kim's past life again.

"That's done. The moment is gone and only I'm here now. I just have those memories in my head. Or genetics. Or that's how Wade explained it. A kind of epigenetic inheritance."

"Right, because that makes sense," Ron declared airily.

Dr. Director didn't comment.

"Just tell me what you learn," she said after a moment. "That will be all."

"And, Dr. Director," Kim paused at the door.

"Yes?"

"Blindside me like that again and we will have a problem," she grumbled with a cold look in her glaring eyes now before she left the office.

"Well, that went well," Ron declared in the wake of the door slamming.

The head of Global Justice didn't say a word as Ron went after his longtime friend.
