July 1995:

Nymphadora Tonks had come across a lot of men throughout her life, most of them aurors. She'd come across paranoid and constantly vigilant aurors, calm and eccentric aurors, rude and I'm-better-than-all-of-you aurors, aurors who looked like a lion. She'd come across some other men as well, most of them either unkind or flirty - however, either turned out to be a disappointment, maybe even a disaster. Tonks had been engulfing herself into one relationship crisis followed by another. And she was sick and tired of it. So, she decided, all men apart from her father, Kingsley and Mad-Eye were basically shite.

That was until she met Remus Lupin. He wasn't only kind, calm, smart and witty - Remus was a gentleman. And he had proven himself to be one from the first day she'd joined the Order of the Phoenix.

Tonks still remembered herself not so gracefully tripping over the troll leg umbrella stand. While Mad-Eye and her cousin had yelled at Walburga Black, a desperate attempt to shut the nasty woman up, Remus had knelt in front of her, offering her a kind and amused smile. "All right, down there?" he had asked her, his eyes sparkling softly in the dull light.

"Yeah, thanks. Tho I reckon there are more comfortable places to lie around in this house?" she has responded.

Just then, Remus had chuckled softly. A sound she loved so very much. "I wouldn't stake my life on it if I were you," he had said, "But possibility is never gone... Now, would you like to get up, anyways?" He had offered her a hand and just days and weeks later, when she'd held his hand once or twice more, she would realize how perfectly her small hand fit into his.

Of course, this wasn't the only time Nymphadora Clumsy Tonks (as Sirius sometimes referred to her) made a fool of herself in front of Remus Lupin. Today seemed to be worse than usual.

Just this morning, she tripped over the darn troll leg for the hundredth time. But she did not make contact with the floor. Remus was there - apparently appearing out of nowhere - and sneaked an arm around her waist, as if he had been doing this all his life. Well, he had, at least for the last few weeks.

Remus was a gentleman, the most gentlemanly gentleman Tonks had ever met. He pulled out a chair for her before and after meals because he knew that she was prone to knock it over or hit her toes on the chair leg. She didn't even mind him doing this.

Before taking off for their mission tonight, Tonks tripped on the staircase and fell down the last three stairs. However, once again she didn't hit the stoney floor because of him. Remus was there as always, sneaking an arm around her waist or grabbing her by the shoulder and preventing her from landing on the the ground. "Careful, Nymphadora," he whispered to her ear. A shiver was sent down her spine by that. Tonks had never thought of herself to fall for a gentleman... but here she was, slowly hurling herself into another relationship, this time, hopefully, with a happy ending.
