Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Chaotic Comrades. Enjoy the 1700-word chapter. I don't own Warhammer; Games worship and a few others do.
Magnus looked upon the landscape. It was filled with dozens of explosions and firefights. He could see the group of marines the ruinous power he served had spoken of.
(With Grissom)
Grissom ducked his head behind stone. He watched the turret rack the area with gunfire. Grissom had to give the Orks credit to how unwilling they were to surrender.
The Turret had stopped their charge cold. He was resigned to taking potshots with his bolter.
Grissom sighed and took another potshot. One of the Orks fell to the ground, lifeless.
"Damn this." Grissom stated while he sighed and rolled his eyes.
More Orks emerged, firing whatever armaments they held in their hands. Grissom was about to try and see if flanking was an option to try and flank the turret.
Then the sound of engines cut through the air which made Grissom inclined his head into the sky. Grissom hummed while the Thunderhawk roared overhead.
The canon atop the gunship roared to life, the slug sailed into the upper levels of the base. Grissom watched as stone and metal rained down on the Orks.
"Damned Humies!" One of the Orks yelled before a bolter round ripped through his skull. Grissom and his warband exploded from cover.
The Orks continued to hold their ground. Grissom promised to honor the Ork commander for how skilled they were. It was quite clear they had been at war before.
"Kill them all!" Grissom roared as he drew his Chainsword once more and cut down one of the Orks. "Drive them from this place!" Grissom hissed and charged through the smoke.
Grissom sighed and continued to rush through the smoke. Grissom cut down another Ork who swung at him only for him to parry the hit and stab the Ork.
Grissom watched as a trio of Orks emerged only to fall before a hail of Bolter fire. Grissom watched the remaining Orks rout like before.
Grissom started to wonder why the normally battle starved brutes had continued to retreat. Grissom knew some Orks were crafty, but most would throw themselves into bolter fire rather than fall back.
"These Orks continue to confound me." Grissom heard from one of his men. "Why do they retreat so often? Orks never consider retreat." The marine put in as Grissom hummed.
"I'm starting to believe these Orks are unlike what we usually deal with." Grissom stated and shook his head. "Free our brothers. More Orks will return soon." Grissom ordered before a voice broke through his.
Grissom blinked and watched as a hulking warrior descended. Grissom's warriors formed around their leader.
The warrior was garbed in golden armor which seemed to glow with power. Grissom could see horns which looked like they could gore anyone atop their head. Their leathery skin was painted a dark crimson… As if they were painted in blood.
The winged warrior carried a mighty staff and stood much taller than Grissom and his men. Grissom stepped in front of his soldiers.
"Which of you is Centurion Grissom?" The figure questioned. Grissom watched as a squad of Horrors and marines clad in azure armor emerged from behind him.
"I am." Grissom asked as he stepped forward. "I am Grissom, former servant of the imperium of man. These men are under my charge." Grissom stated and cracked his neck.
"A youngblood." Magnus stated which made Grissom look over his shoulder. "Tell me, do you know who I am, warrior?" Magnus questioned and got a nod.
"This world is not yours to claim." Magnus put in which made Grissom tilt his head slightly. "The Orks have a fleet in orbit… You will claim the head of the Ork in charge of this invasion." Magus stated as Grissom hummed.
"And the fate of the rest of the planet?" Grissom questioned with a raised eyebrow under his armor.
Truth be told? Grissom didn't entirely know if anyone had survived the Ork's rampage across the planet. But he did know many of his brothers still fought. Even if Chaos was his master? Grissom would not forsake the lives of his brothers.
"We shall see…" Magnus said before both Chaos Marines turned their heads skywards.
"The Orks here are far smarter than normal." Grissom put in. Some part already knowing that the Daemon Prince was aware. "I do not know if they can be so easily killed." Grissom stated and turned back to his men.
"Round up anyone you can…" Grissom ordered and looked upwards. "Let us hope we can board their vessel. These Orks are more cunning then I assumed." Grissom stated before Magnus spoke up.
"My brothers already attack their flotilla in orbit." Magnus put in which made Grissom turn. "You are to simply kill their Warboss. I'm sure a servant of Chaos can achieve that?" Magnus questioned as Grissom hummed.
"I will slay the green skin." Grissom stated and turned to Magnus. "But they have hundreds of prisoners aboard their fleet. I suspect they wish to give us pause by putting our brothers in harm's way." Grissom added and turned to the side.
"They are no longer our brothers, youngblood." Magnus put in before Grissom hummed.
"They are still my brothers, my lord…" Grissom stated before turning to the rest of his men. "Make sure that everyone we're end." Grissom stated while he sighed and turned to the sky once more.
Grissom hummed and looked up while the rest of his men prepared for their attack on the Ork fleet.
Grissom looked up at the sky with interest. Grissom watched while several Kill Kroozers flew up into the sky.
"The Orks seem to be gathering for something in orbit." Grissom stated which made Magnus nodded while the Orks continued to slowly gather in space.
Grissom and his men filed into a Thunderhawk before his men. Grissom watched more Chaos Marine file into a second Thunderhawk while he sighed.
"Has anyone managed to board their command ship?" Grissom asked while both Thunderhawks slowly powered up before making for orbit.
"That will be your job to investigate." Magnus stated while Grissom looked at the rest of his men.
Grissom started to walk into the ramp. More Chaos Marines began to arrive. Grissom had no doubt that the forces of the imperium would fall soon. The Orks were pushing back slowly but surely. If this invasion had much more planning and time put into it? Then Grissom knew things would be much more different.
The Thunderhawks lifted off. Grissom knew very well that neither of their gunships would be a match for the Ork fleet…. Then again? He wasn't aiming to destroy their fleet. He was no admiral.
"I am still searching for that Ork who killed my brothers." Grissom heard over the communication system. "I haven't seen the rest of your men." Grissom heard from Bivitas.
"I'm busy with something at the moment." Grissom put in while looking at his weapons. "Kill as many Orks as you want. We can talk when this is done and sorted out." Grissom stated before cutting the connection.
"Do we even have a plan?" One marine asked.
"I don't know, ask the commander." Another put in which made Grissom hum.
"We will develop a plan when we are aboard their vessel." Grissom responded. "You will leave their commander to me." Grissom ordered with a sigh of annoyance.
He wanted to murder the Ork who had taken so much life from his brothers… This planet. Grissom knew if he wasn't killed? Their rampage would consume the very planet.
"I will tell you that my warriors are already engaging the Orks in combat." Magnus stated which made Grissom frown under his helmet.
"Then I will aid them where I am able." Grissom responded only to get a hearty chuckle.
However, it lacked the warmth that most gestures like that usually gave.
"My brothers will dispose of the Orks, Centurion." Magnus put in to Grissom who said nothing. "I only require you to kill their leader. This planet doesn't require the full forces of Chaos to take." Magnus added while Grissom looked to the side.
He knew very well challenging the Orks on their own turf was a death sentence. They knew their clobbered together heap of scrap and wires they called ships. They also had numbers. Orks weren't very skilled at combat, not usually enough to counter the Imperium's armies… But they were numerous, which gave them the advantage.
Both craft broke orbit. Grissom blinked upon seeing what greeted him.
The space around them was thick with ships. Jace could see several Inferno Class Cruisers and Kill Kroozers battling.
"By the gods…" One marine stated while their craft started to pass through the warring fleets. "Do you think we can even hope to kill one Ork among this?" The Marine questioned which made Grissom nod.
"We cut a path through them to their flagship." Grissom put in. "From there? We simply carve a path and kill their commander… Who you will leave to me as I said?" Grissom stated while reloading his bolter.
He hummed, interested in where the next battle would come from… And how it would define him and his brothers.
If this was the power of the Chaos Gods? To bring so many reinforcements so quickly? Then he would be interested in seeing the depth of their machinations.
"I'm sure things will be interesting when this is done." Grissom stated to himself.
Their craft passed one of the cruisers which fired its guns as more fighter craft emerged. They spread their wings like insects from a great beast.
Grissom was interested in how much of an empire Chaos had… As with all servants of Chaos?
He had his own designs for it.
Author Notes
Phew. another chapter done! I want to point out this chapter was supposed to be longer… But I don't have the desire to make this chapter much longer. Next chapter will be in 2-10 weeks and will show the Obsidian Stalkers and Thousand Sons fighting Orks and Grissom's rise to leader of the Obsidian Stalkers. Until then, Lighting Wolf out!
