Chapter 3 - Brave New World
Caroline's pov
I woke up in the middle of the night hungry. I got out of bed and saw the nurse, "Excuse me, where is everyone?" I asked the nurse.
"It's the middle of the night hun." She told me.
"It is, have you seen my mom?" I asked her.
"She left after dinner with your boyfriend and your friend. Then your friend Elena came to visit you." She told me.
"She did?" I asked her.
She nodded, "Can I get something to eat?" I asked her, I was hungry.
"Breakfast comes around seven, you should go back to sleep." She told me.
I could smell something, blood? I walked into the room that had the blood bag and put it in my dressing down pocket. The nurse took me back to my room and shut the door. I pulled the blood bag out and drank from it. It tasted wrong at first but I need more.
I continued drinking the bag, what did Elena do to me?
Alexa's pov
"Alexa you up sweetie?" Liz asked, knocking on the door.
"Yeah, I'm up." I said to her as I was curling my hair.
She walked in, "You nearly ready?" She asked me.
I turned the curling iron off, putting my leather jacket on. "Yeah I'm ready. Hopefully Caroline can get out today." I said to her.
She smiled, "Come on, Matt will be meeting us there." She told me.
We headed to the hospital to visit Caroline. Matt was waiting there for us, "She's not eating." He told us both.
I took the tray, "Wanna help me try and make her eat something?" I asked him.
He nodded and we walked in, "Hey Care, nurse told me you weren't eating?" I asked her.
"It's gross." She said to me, sitting up.
"It's hospital food." Matt said to her.
"Well how about if you eat something, I will take you to the Grill for some proper food later." I said to her.
She sighed and nodded, "Okay, I'll eat the yoghurt." She said to me.
Matt brought it over to her. "What about the carnival?" She asked us both.
"Bonnie and Elena are handling it." Matt told her.
"It's not about the carnival. It's just, this place is depressing." She told us both.
"Well that's because you're sitting in the dark." Matt said going to open the curtains.
Caroline got up out of bed and asked Matt to close the curtains. "Hey Matt, it's okay can you give me and Caroline a few minutes alone?" I asked him.
He sighed and nodded, he left the room. "Are you okay? You can talk to me." I told her.
"Elena killed me." She told me.
"Oh my god, are you a..?" I asked her quietly.
She nodded, "I'm going to protect you okay. You can trust me." I told her.
She nodded, "I'll stay with you if you want, until you night." I said to her.
She nodded, "Thank you Alexa." She said to me.
"What are sisters for ay." I said to her.
She smiled and hugged me. "I'm feeling tired." She told me.
"Get some rest, I'll let the nurse, Matt and your mum know." I told her.
I walked out closing the door, "She is sleeping again now." I said to them all.
"We can discharge her this evening instead." The nurse said to us all.
I nodded, "I'll meet her here and we can meet you at the school for the carnival." I told Matt.
"Sounds like a plan." He told me.
I looked back into Caroline's room, why would Elena kill her? I thought to myself. "You can come by around 6pm." The nurse told me.
I nodded and went to tell Caroline about the plan. She nodded and hugged me again, "Thank you." She told me.
I patted her hair, "Start getting ready okay, I'll be back with your car." I told her.
I walked out of the room, Liz gave me Caroline's car keys. "Let's get you signed up at the school." She told me.
She took me to the school, I got signed up and Stefan saw me. He walked over to me and looked at me, "John has left town." He told me.
"What come to compel me to leave town?" I asked him, with a mocking town.
He chuckled at me, "No, I actually gave Jeremy vervain and I want to give you some." He told me, putting the small veil in my hand.
"Thanks." I told him.
I looked at him, "Why are you being nice?" I asked him.
"Your Elena and Jeremy's sister she, has told me her side of the story but I want to hear yours." He told me.
I looked at him, "Fine, Elena was always seen as the special child. Adoptive parents didn't care if I was alive so Caroline and her mum took me in. Carol Lockwood got wind of what happened and said I could always stay at their house whenever my god-father Mason was around." I told him.
He looked at me, "I didn't know that." He told me.
"Well now you know, Elena will ruin both you and Damon. A doppelganger is always doomed to repeat her ancestors mistakes." I told him, walking away.
I got into the car and headed back to the hospital, Caroline had messaged me that she was getting ready slowly. I sat outside her room, the nurse left her room.
She walked back inside and Caroline bit her. I closed the door over walking in, "Easy Caroline." I told her.
She relaxed and stopped. I bandaged the nurse's neck. Caroline finished getting dressed, "You feeling better?" I asked her.
She nodded, "Yeah, Elena's necklace burnt me." She told me.
I picked it up and smelt it, "Vervain, it's toxic to your kind." I pocketed the necklace and pulled out my phone.
"What are you doing?" She asked me.
"Ringing a friend from New Orleans to see how fast they can get here to make you a daylight ring or a necklace." I told her.
"Hey Davina, how fast can you get to Mystic Falls?" I asked her.
"Well lucky for you, me and my mum just moved here. We are at the carnival." She told me.
"Can you make me a daylight necklace and a ring? It's for my best friend, she is more like a sister to me." I said to her.
"Sure it won't take me long, I'll run home and do it. Meet you both at the carnival." She said and hung up.
"Well we have a new witch in town, she is a bit of a badass also." I told her.
Caroline smiled, and called her mum. "The doctor said I was good as new. He signed me off and said I didn't have to wait until morning." She said and hung up.
"Answer phone." She told me.
She looked at the nurse, "I'm so sorry about that, so what's the story?" She asked the nurse.
"My husband likes to get kicky." She told her.
I chuckled and Caroline smiled, "Yes, good. So we're gonna take off, I'm the committee chair for the carnival and I'm worried it's a complete disaster. God bless Elena but she doesn't understand the word fabulous." She told the nurse.
She put her bag on her shoulder, "Once again, I'm so sorry about that and if you could just forget that I bit you that would be great because I'm going to." She told the nurse.
We walked towards the door, "Forget what?" The nurse asked her.
"I don't know how that works but it's brilliant." Caroline told her and we left the hospital.
Caroline got a message from her mum and we stopped home so Caroline can get changed into clean clothes. Liz invited Caroline inside, Caroline ran off to get ready then we headed to the carnival.
I saw Davina walk up to me and hugged me, "Hey Davina." I said to her.
She gave me the ring, I put it on Caroline's hand. "It'll protect you from the sun." I told her.
She nodded, "Thank you, I'm Caroline." She told her.
"I'm Davina, I'm sorry this has happened to you." She told her.
Caroline smiled and nodded, "I'm going to find Matt." She told me and went off to find her boyfriend.
"So I had a vision, you have a soulmate." She told me.
"Wait really?" I asked her.
She nodded, "His name is Kol, that's all I got. I have one too, his name is Jeremy." She told me.
"Wait Jeremy, my brother's name is Jeremy." I told her.
She smiled, "It could be him." She told me.
Caroline's pov
I was given a ring by Alexa's friend Davina, she was pretty. I went off to find Damon to kick his ass, I was getting flashes of what he did to me.
I followed Damon into a quiet corridor. "Oh hey blondie. They let you out." He told me.
"I remember." I told him.
He turned around, "What do you remember?" He asked me.
"I remember how you manipulated me, you pushed me around. Abused me. Erased my memories. Fed on me." I told him.
"You're crazy." He told me.
"The memories are coming back in pieces." I told him.
He looked at me and walked up to me, "You can't remember it's impossible unless you were becoming a…" he said to me.
"I have a message from Katherine. She said game on." I told him, I went to walk away and I shoved him down the corridor. "You suck." I told him.
I went off to find Matt, Matt was at one of the carnival stands with Alexa and Davina. "Surprise." I said to Matt.
Matt looked at Alexa, "The doctor said she was as good as new." Alexa told him.
Caroline hugged Matt and I could tell she was getting hungry. She ran off, Davina and I followed her. "We have to find her before she kills someone or someone kills her." I told her.
"We will Alexa." She said taking my hand and we went off looking for Caroline. We found her arguing with Damon. Davina saw Damon raise the stake he had I ran over and pulled him away from her and Davina raised her hand giving him a headache.
Elena and Stefan arrived as Caroline clung to me. Elena walked up to her, "Get away from me, you killed me." Caroline said to Elena.
"Davina, you can stop. Hopefully his brother snaps his neck." I said to her. Elena looked confused as Davina walked past her over to me and Caroline.
"No no Caroline that wasn't me. That was Katherine." Elena told her.
"Then why does she look like you. Why, why did she do this to me?" She said to her.
Caroline's emotions were heightened, "Caroline look at me, breathe okay. Copy me and Davina." I told her.
She did and calmed down a bit, "She will die, it's only a matter of time." Damon told Elena and Stefan.
"Don't think so asshole, not gonna happen." I told him.
"Oh yeah it is." He said to me, he picked up the stake and I got in front of Caroline.
He stopped, "Go ahead do it, kill me. Bet Elena will be happy with that, not like she cares anyway." I told him.
Davina snapped his neck with her magic. "Let's get her cleaned up." She told me.
I took Caroline into the bathroom with Davina as Bonnie arrived. I wiped Caroline's face of the blood. "I'm a monster." She told me.
"No you're not, okay. You're still my sister." I told her.
Davina helped me as Stefan walked in. "How are you holding up?" He asked Caroline.
She shook her head and Stefan walked up to her. "Hey look at me, see. When you feel the blood rush in you tell yourself that you're gonna get through it. You're stronger, yes no matter how good it feels to give yourself to it. You bury it." He told her, showing her.
I smiled, Caroline needed someone like Stefan in her life. Not Elena. Davina smiled at me and nodded. "Why did Katherine do this to me?" She asked him.
"I don't know, but I'm gonna help you." He told her, giving her a hug.
"We'll get her home, Liz already invited her inside." I told him.
He nodded, "Sleep over, can you stay in my room tonight?" She asked me.
"Of course Caroline." I told her.
Davina left and went home. I got Caroline home and cleaned up more. We were lying in Caroline's bed when the window opened and in came Matt.
"What are you doing here?" She asked him.
"I came to see if today's basket case period has expired?" He asked her.
"I'm gonna let you both talk it out." I told them both with a smile going into my room. Caroline gave me a little smile and Matt nodded. I walked into my room to get some sleep.
A/N – Dreams for Alexa and Caroline will start in the next chapter and will be somewhat like the Slayer Dreams that Buffy had.
