Chapter 5 - Memory Lane
A/N – Dreams are in italics, Alexa is invited to Jenna's BBQ with Caroline and she brings Davina along. Alexa meets Alaric who is Jenna's boyfriend and Isobel's ex-husband.
Alexa's pov
I was at the Grill with Caroline and her date from the ball and my date Kol. We were sitting in a booth swapping stories when Davina walked in with Jeremy and they joined us both. We were getting dirty looks from Elena, Stefan, Damon and Bonnie. We couldn't but laugh at them being not happy for us all.
Kol wrapped his arm over my shoulder and kissed the side of my head. I blushed. Nik kissed Caroline he was helping her come in to her own as a vampire. I was debuting turning to stay with Kol, as Elena walked over to us all.
"Oh here we go." I muttered.
Caroline sighed, "Caroline can we talk?" she asked her.
"No, I'm with my boyfriend, my sister and my friends." She told her.
Kol and I smirked she was finally standing up for herself against the princess Elena. Jeremy and Davina chuckled at the look Elena had on her face. She huffed and walked back over to Damon, Bonnie and Stefan.
I woke up from another dream about Kol. We were all with our soulmates, I need to find him. Davina woke up and looked at me, "Did you just dream about Kol?" she asked me.
I nodded, "I wonder if Caroline is dreaming about her soulmate?" she asked me.
"I don't know." I said to her and Caroline walked in.
"Morning you two, do you want to come with me to Elena's today for Jenna's BBQ?" she asked me.
Me and Davina nodded, "Sure." I said to her.
She left the room so me and Davina could get ready. I pulled out a white summer dress for Davina she smiled. I was wearing jeans with a black and white stripped tank top with black converse. We meet Caroline downstairs and headed over to Elena's.
Davina looked at me, "Are you gonna be okay?" she asked me.
I nodded, "Yeah not been in the house since the death. It may be a bit awkward with Elena and her judging eyes." I told her.
Caroline looked at me, "Well lucky for you, you'll have me and Davina there and maybe Jeremy." She told me.
"Thanks Care." I said to her. We pulled up to Elena's house and she was sitting on the porch waiting for Caroline. When we got out of the car, she looked at bit shocked to see me and Davina. Caroline and Davina grabbed my hands and dragged me towards the house.
Elena's pov
I invited Caroline over to the BBQ, she showed up and brought Alexa and Davina with her. Jenna invited them all inside.
"Thanks for letting me invite Caroline. She could use a day of distraction." I said to her.
"Well, she's not the plus one I'm worried about. Neither are Alexa and her friend Davina. Why is Damon coming?" she asked me.
I sighed, "Because Alaric is a pity taker. Come on Jenna, be nice." I told her.
"I'll be nice when Damon learns to keep his paws off you." She told me, giving me a knowing look, "Be careful being between two brothers is never good Elena." She added.
Alexa's pov
Caroline, myself and Davina with outside on the porch chilling. Mason arrives and see's all of us. "There is my god daughter." He said to me.
I smiled at him, "Hey Mason, Jenna is inside with alcohol." I told him.
"You not drinking yet?" he asked me.
I smirked and shrugged, "Not yet." I said and he walked inside, I dropped my smile. "Can't believe he is a wolf." I said lowly.
Davina and Caroline nodded, Elena walked outside to join us. She was calling Stefan. I rolled my eyes, "How is lover boy?" I asked her.
"Yeah, he hasn't called me back. I'm trying to decide if I should be worried." She said to us all.
"I'm sure he's fine." Caroline told her and ate a chip. "God! I cannot stop eating. Stefan says it's a great way to sublimate the cravings. It's horrible just fighting the urge for blood every minute of every day." She said to us both.
"Josh was like that when he turned, we helped him through it." I told her.
Davina smiled, "We will help you too, eating human food helps a lot." She told her.
"Stefan really hates that part of himself." Elena told us all.
"Yeah and he hates that you're a constant temptation." Caroline said to her, me and Davina were hiding are smiles. We both knew Caroline still hates that she is like this because of Elena.
Elena looks at Caroline, "He said that?" she asked her.
She nodded, "The desire to rip out your jugular every time he's with you? Trust me, it's there. It's why I had to break up with Matt." Caroline told her.
Alaric pops his head out, "Hey! Food's ready, come get it." He told us all.
"Finally, I'm starving." Caroline said giving Elena the chip bowl and grabbing mine and Davina's hands taking us inside. Elena gave us all a dirty look, we go the food and sat down on the couch. Davina was showing Caroline pictures from New Orleans.
"I want to go to New Orleans." Caroline said to us.
"Maybe summer break." I said to her.
"It will be a fun girls trip." Davina said to us both as Elena sat next to Caroline.
"What are three talking about?" she asked us all.
"Summer plans." I said to her.
Mason walked in and sat in the chair near me, "You liking being back in town Lex?" he asked me.
I smiled, "Of course I have two of my best friends here." I told him.
We were playing Pictionary. Damon is drawing a wolf with a tutu. "Dress! Ballerina!" Jenna said.
"Puppy! Puppy with a tutu!" Caroline said to him, I was looking at it.
Damon shaked his head, "No, no." He said to us all.
"Dances with the wolves." I said to him. He was mocking Mason for his curse.
"Alexa wins." He said to me.
"How is that a wolf?" Davina asked Damon. I watched Elena walk into the kitchen and Damon followed her. Caroline took out her phone and was he was planning on hurting Mason.
I pulled my phone out and wrote, It takes a lot to hurt a wolf. She looked at me and smiled, knowing my god father will be okay.
"So what college are you thinking off Lex?" Mason asked me.
"New Orleans." I said to him.
Alaric looked at me, "What do you want to study?" he asked me.
"Writing, Occult and History." I told him.
He nodded, "Wow the returning Gilbert is a nerd." Damon said to me.
"At least I'm not an asshole, that bullies Jeremy." I said to him.
Elena looked at me and Jenna looked at him, "Another reason for me not to like Damon." She said to him.
"He wasn't picking on him." She said to me.
Caroline looked at her, "Of course she sticks up for Damon." Caroline muttered, Davina gripped my hand.
"Speaking of my little brother where is he?" I asked him.
"He's working at the Grill." Alaric told me.
"Did you ever fill that form out?" Davina asked me.
"Not yet, I'll do it later." I told her, Caroline laughed.
Elena's pov
Caroline, myself, Alexa and Davina are in the living room. "Would I be the worst friend in the world if I abandoned you and went to Stefan's?" I asked Caroline.
Alexa and Davina rolled their eyes at me. "You want to leave?" Caroline asked her.
"It's just that he hasn't gotten back to me and I'm starting to get this bad feeling." I said to them all.
Alexa looked at me, "I don't think that's a good idea, Elena." She told me.
"Damon's got it under control here." I told them all.
Davina looked at me, "Oh we should all trust Damon right." She said to me.
"Take it from me, there's nothing worse than a clingy girlfriend." Caroline told me.
I looked at Caroline, Alexa and Davina. "I'm not being clingy, I'm just concerned. You understand, right?" I said to her.
Alexa rolled her eyes at me, "How about we drive you?" She said to me.
"Yeah, okay, that'll be great, thanks." I nodded, I go into Caroline's car. Caroline, Alexa and Davina get into the car. Caroline is driving toward the boarding house with me.
"Thanks for this, I appreciate it." I said to her.
Caroline said to me, "Here we come, to the rescue."
"Why are you being so snippy?" I asked her.
"That's my own drama. I'm sure that you two will beat the odds. Not that there is any study to pull odds from. What is the ratio of success for vampire-human couplings? I'm guessing nil." She said to me.
Alexa and Davina chuckled, "Okay Caroline." I said to her.
"Sorry." She said to me.
"Hey don't take it out on her that lover boy was a no show. Didn't stop you from giving Damon the side eye did it.?" Alexa said to me.
I shut up and Davina chuckled, "I love this song." Davina said to all of us.
Caroline pushes a button on her steering wheel. "What's playing?"
"Playing "We Radiate" by Goldfrapp." A robot voice replied.
"Ta-da!" Caroline said to all of us, Alexa chuckled at Caroline.
The tire bursts. "Oh crap." Caroline said to us all.
I sighed, "Well it's a sign we should have stayed at the BBQ. I could have been drinking now." Alexa said to us all.
Caroline and Davina nodded.
Alexa's pov
Caroline called a tow truck. "Are you sure the tow's coming? We've been waiting forever." Elena said to Caroline.
"I know, it's weird. They said they'd be here by now." Caroline said leaning against the car.
"Yeah. I'm just gonna call Jenna." Elena said to us all.
"No! Just let me try the tow people again. And I'll use my agro voice." Caroline said to us all.
"We can just walk from here." Elena said to us.
"Yeah no, I'm not walking through the woods so Damon can kill us." I said to her.
Davina nodded, "Your sister has a point. Vampires like Damon aren't to be trusted." Davina told her
"I can't just leave my car." Caroline told Elena.
Elena looked at her, "We'll come back for it." Elena told her.
"Just give me a minute, Elena." Caroline told her.
"Girls, what part of "I'm worried about Stefan" didn't sink in?" Elena told us all.
I let out a laugh, "Failing relationship." I muttered.
"What's the rush? Why are you hurrying to get to a relationship that will never work?" Caroline told her.
Elena looked at her, "Okay, look. I know that you're upset over Matt but will you stop projecting it onto me and Stefan please?" She told her.
"She's not projecting, it's facts." Davina told her.
"I'm not projecting anything! Alexa and Davina are right! You're human, he's a vampire. You're gonna be 70 and in diapers and he's still gonna be smoking hot and you will never have his children, Elena! And you are too maternal to not have children!" Caroline told her.
"Where is this coming from?" Elena asked us all.
"I'm just trying to be your friend." Caroline told her.
Elena nodded, "Okay, well, do me a favour and stop trying." She told Caroline.
I walked up to Elena grabbing her by the hair, "Listen you little petty bitch, don't take it out on Caroline because Stefan didn't want to be near your little clingy ass all day.
Davina pulls me away from her, "Hey, the slut is not worth it." She told me.
"There's the tow, I'm gonna walk." Elena said to us walking away, the tow guy fixes Caroline's flat tire. We all headed to the grill for food and we all sat in a booth and Caroline looked at us all.
"What's up Caroline?" I asked her.
"Katherine, she asked me to keep Elena away from going to the house." She told us all.
"We should have knocked her out." I muttered.
Davina nodded, we see Elena walk in with Stefan. "Hey." Elena said to us all as Stefan walks off to a table.
"Trouble in paradise?" I asked her.
She sighed, "Everything that you were saying was right. It's just hard for me to hear, you know?" She told us all.
"So...you're not mad at me?" Caroline asked her.
"You were just being a good friend...in your own way." She said to her, kind of insulting her.
"My own head case, horrible way. Elena, I really am sorry." Caroline said to her, Elena walks off.
"Bitch." I muttered, knowing full well Stefan could her me.
Caroline rested her head on my shoulder. She pulled her phone out and wrote on a not pad telling me that Elena and Stefan just broke up.
I nodded, "It's for the best." I muttered.
They left the Grill, I stayed with Davina. "What happened between you, Elena and Jeremy?" She asked me.
"Well, I was dating Matt first and she slept with him behind my back. Vickie caught them and told me. Jeremy hated Elena for acting like it wasn't her fault. Then not even a couple weeks later she dumps him and get adoptive parents killed." I told her.
She grabbed my hand, "Us girls got to stay together. What else did she do?" she asked me.
"I always liked John about the house and she hated him. Even though he is my dad, adoptive parents would always put her before me. Princess Elena gets everything, me and Jeremy were always the problem children. Jeremy turned to drugs, I was cutting classes and Elena would make are lives a living hell." I told her.
Davina listened to me continue. "Liz showed up one night and took me to stay with her. Caroline was happy and she helped me, Vickie helped by hating Elena. Matt and I grew apart and Jeremy missed having me in the house. The Elena had her fill of Matt dumped him, called the adoptive parents and got them killed. I left town with John and didn't stop moving forward." I told her.
"Now you're stronger." She told me.
I nodded, "Except I can't protect Jeremy from Elena banging two brothers." I told her.
"I'll help you with that, he deserves a normal life." She told me, I nodded. We left the Grill Davina went one way I went a different way.
I bumped into some, "Hello Alexa." She said to me.
I looked at her, "Katherine." I said to her.
She smiled and nodded, "We need to talk." She told me. She grabbed me and took me to her house she was staying at. "Don't be frightened. You remind me of my sister that died." She told me.
"I'm sorry." I told her.
"It's okay, let get to know each other." She said to me.
