Kim Possible: Vamped

"How do you feel, sweetie," Kim looked up from her book as she heard Dana pad into the living room just after dark.

"A lot better now that I'm rested again," she grinned. "Thanks for taking care of that for me," she smiled.

"So, how long have you been training at GJ again?"

"Oh, that? I thought you wanted me doing it to keep me in the loop," Dana blushed.

"Not me, Dana. Even I know we need to rest more than most. Only it seems we had another sleeper in the ranks that was trying to make us lose control."

"Why," she gasped.

"Someone was trying to use us to destroy Betty. The same as they once used her brother, and even Shego."

"Say what," Shego demanded loudly from the kitchen where she was starting dinner.

"We'll talk, Shego. Anyway, it seems that this time Betty was innocent. We were all played by the Council that was using her and GJ to cover their own sins."

"Wow. Mom, what are you going to…?"

"So I quit. I leave that decision up to you, though. You can still work in communications if you want. It is a good job. You might even be able to find out things we might need to know if Wade is distracted. Only I leave it to you."

"What are you going to do?"

"The last thing any of them will likely expect," Kim said. "I'll make a production of declaring I'm going into private research."

"Yeah, right," Shego muttered from the kitchen.

"I said I'd make a production," Kim shot back. "Not that I would. Of course, I could do that, and make it more convincing while I do what I'm really after."

"The Council," Dana guessed.

"Absolutely. I have no doubt Betty will be going after them, especially after all we learned and all she'll be learning when she questions their spy. Only they'll still play by the rules. They'll trust the system even after it screwed us all. I'm not giving them another chance."

"So, you're really going to play dirty," Shego asked as she came into the living room drying her hands on a hand towel.

"Don't think I can?"

"I'm thinking I want in. After you tell me what you meant about them playing me."

"It's simple. Back then you were too strong, and still too idealistic for them to risk you backing GJ or Betty. So they used Janos to do wild experiments on you he claimed were at Betty's command. They weren't. They were on Van Dyke's orders, though the entire Council knew and approved. They hoped to drive you off, and when you crossed over as you did, they actually felt their plan would be more successful than intended as they fully expected you to go after Betty yourself."

"Instead I went full merc, and eventually ended up working for Drew," Shego murmured.

"Which they still counted as a win, cutting off some support for GJ by claiming Betty had lost a promising agent and made her go bad. It took her a while to recover, but she did. Which only made them even more fearful of her. Fearful enough to hire her own brother to rival her, which he took like a game. Only then he was hired to come after me and Ron when we began to become a little too popular and powerful in their eyes. When he failed, they got…creative," Kim concluded.

"I get it. They figured you guys weren't the type to let business, as usual, go unanswered."

"Obviously. The whole vampire sitch was a trap. A Security Council trap. They sent me and Ron in blind knowing what we would find. Only they expected us to both to die."

"Instead, you and Ron killed the big bad, and you rose as an Elder. Yeah, they have to be shaking just now."

"Which is why Janos was instructed to push us into snapping to finally cut Betty's future off by blaming her for our rampage. Only Janos was used to dealing with normal vampires and leeches. Not Elders or potential Elders," Kim said with a nod at Dana.

"So, what happened to that shrimpy little loon?"

"I brainwashed him into being loyal to Betty, and only Betty. He couldn't betray her if he wanted to now. I suspect even she will get a lot of use out of him before his double-agent status is discovered."

"Clever," Shego said. "I still want in. I don't like the idea of anyone playing me and getting away with it," Shego grumbled.

"I guessed. So right now Wade is finding out everything he can about the five members of the Security Council that run GJ and several high profile U.N. agencies. We find the right string, and we're going to unravel all their plans. Only we'll do it their way. Covertly. No one will see us coming or going, so they won't have a clue as to what is happening until too late."

"I'm in. I think you'll find I'm not as rusty as most think," Shego smiled.

"Honestly, Shego," Kim laughed. "I never thought you were rusty at all. You didn't walk into GJ that day by being out of practice," the redhead grinned, "And Betty has to know it."

"So, we wait on the Nerdlinger to give us a clue, and then we go to work."

"Right. Meanwhile, I take all eyes off me by announcing my new avocation."

"They'll probably still watch. Just to make sure you're really backing off."

"Exactly. Only they'll soon be bored when I go nowhere and do nothing. I do know the type," Kim smirked. "I figure two weeks, and they won't even be looking at us when we do get ready to make our move."

"Just make sure I get some payback," Shego declared.

"Your chance will come. We'll all be vindicated before this is over. All of us," Kim said.

"Well, thirty minutes before the casserole is done. So, how about you explain in a bit more detail. I especially want to know about that shrimpy loon. You're saying Bets never told him….?"

"Ironically, Dr. Director always respected you. Even after you bailed. I can tell you now, she never ordered that madman to do anything to you. Just as she never ordered him to test Dana. He was using her authority on his own at the Council's orders."

Dana frowned.

"So, technically, they're the reason we were attacked, and that nutjob even found out about you to create those monsters?"

"Exactly," Kimbera growled, and Dana and Shego both knew that it was Kimbera, and she was still looking to vindicate the slight against her.

"Kim quit GJ," Ron said as he hung up the phone after answering it and only hearing a short message. One so curt and tailored he felt it left more unsaid than not.

"Did she say why," Yori asked.

"That wasn't her. It was Agent Du. He asked us to watch her for them because Kim threatened them or any agent she spotted around her before she walked out.

Yori frowned.

"That…sounds unlike her. Yet it sounds like her, too. Only it doesn't seem like the kind of message that Du-San would give."

"No. He would be a lot wordier, and angsty. Definitely more worried. Especially after being threatened again. Something else is going on. I think I need to talk to Kim. We can't risk someone overhearing, though."

"It will be my honor to accompany you," Yori told her.

"We'd better go full ninja. If something is going on, we have no idea who might be watching."

"My own suspicion as well, Ron-San. I think we should be very careful. I think there is more going on than is seen," the young ninja girl declared.

"Yeah. Yeah," he said and went to pull out his special gear.

It might be Middleton. It might be home. Only if Ron had learned anything, it was that you never knew who was watching from the shadows. Shadows that had a way of spitting out trouble if you weren't ready for them.

"I just hope someone is stupid enough to really set off Kim. You know. Again?"

Yori said nothing to that one.

When Master-Sensei said she might well be needed and to stay with Ronald, she had been of two minds. Happy to be with a man she could respect and admire, but more than worried about just what was coming next. The last time he had warned her of trouble, the YoNo had risen. Now Possible-San was a vampire elder, and the people charged with watching her seemed to be angering her. It was not, she knew, a good thing.

Mrs. Robinson heard something in her living room and frowned as she sat up in bed wishing Roger was home.

Lately, the house seemed more than empty to her even if Monique had not been staying very often even after returning to town. Only now her daughter was really gone, and all she had was a few well-wishers giving her sympathy.

She could now understand how Ann had felt when Kim had vanished.

Only Monique was not missing, presumed lost. She was really gone. Just ash. A hero to the end even Kim Possible assured her, but Monique wasn't supposed to be a heroine. She was supposed to be a fashion designer and a budding entrepreneur. Marigold Robinson sighed, and got out of bed, and went to the living room.

She saw no one around, the door was still locked, and she couldn't help looking to her daughter's urn on the mantle.

She couldn't help but sniffle again, her eyes brimming at the thought her lively, talented, and vivacious daughter had been reduced to a few handfuls of ash. She sighed and went to get a drink of water before she returned to her bed.

She never saw the shadow that moved where none should be as she turned to go back to her room.
