Kim Possible: Vamped

The next morning, Kim called and assured the lawyer she was hunting a suitable manager for her unexpected inheritance. The bulk of Monique's estate had gone to her family, as expected, but the redhead was a little surprised that Mrs. Robinson was not upset over Kim gaining those boutiques her daughter had created and built up since becoming a fashion designer in her own right.

She left Monique still sleeping in her bed but realized she should be seeing about opening up a bedroom for her if she wished her own space.

She had shown her the monitors, with the men and women at fault still trying to build their own little colony on that other-dimensional world, and Monique laughed at some of them even as she enthused over the amphibian race Kim had found.

They then spent the better part of an hour crafting a primary mask and voice for Monique and created Maribelle Sanderson. A young woman with a certain background close to Monique's, and with skin lighter than her own true body. Just to add to the differences, Monique gave Maribelle startlingly green eyes and suggested a mixed heritage even if she kept her long, dark mane. With a voice like soft honey to Kim's ear, Maribelle was all but ready to face the world after Kim assured her the newly upgraded mask would cover her voice and appearance, as well as protect her since it also had the force-field Dana had mentioned.

"Anything to keep you safe," Kim had told her when Monique suggested she was going overboard.

Shego had gone out shopping since Monique was adding an extra mouth to the house, and she did need more clothing than they had on hand to help her look presentable when she did prepare to go out.

Dana was sleeping in again because she had a night shift, and had been up late anyway talking to Amy again. Kim went to her lab, still working on her own ideas as she kept up the alibi that she had been working on research rather than helping Global Justice of late.

Any of the press that found her when she went out for any reason only heard 'No comment' from her if they got any response at all. If she missed anything at all about that job it was the fact she could go out and do as she wanted and even help people as she still desired to do. Only she had to admit that of late GJ had been a lot less about helping and a lot more about control.

Even Betty had been about using her to control the preternaturals they might encounter. Never mind some of them out there had legitimate complaints, it was all about keeping them under a tight rein, and never mind why they were angry. Kim found that a bit hypocritical. Of course, now she had learned that the entire Council had been filled with hypocrites.

No more. Now they were trying to survive on an alien world, and she still saw no indication any of them had actually learned anything. If anything, from what she saw they were still trying to play power games with one another. Ironically, it was Paradox that seemed to keep them focused, and working as a group. For the most part.

She had no doubt that the moment that fell apart, the little colony was going to self-destruct spectacularly.

Some instinct told her that it was inevitable. Only she didn't really care. She had given them a chance, and now their lives were in their own hands and only their own hands. Let them find out how it felt to face an indifferent world that didn't care if they lived or died. Maybe some of them would realize how the people they had trampled on felt for once.

Shaking her head, pushing those people from her mind, she considered how to manage the small but very real fashion empire Monique had been building and left to her. Sure, Monique could step in and manage them for her as Maribelle, but she was still left with a lot of business decisions that Kim would have to make since Monique had boutiques overseas as well as across the nation. Only neither Kim nor Monique was currently in any position to run around as Monique once did to tend to each shop.

So, what to do?

She would have to talk to her about that, too. Yet one more complication since her return. She sighed, went to the living room, and just sat down as she pondered what to do when pressed on her research. She had no intention of showing anyone her amphibian race. Especially since she wasn't supposed to have built her quantum projector/viewer after the authorities had declared it was dangerous technology not allowable for public use.

Technically, she wasn't even supposed to still have the schematics, but Kim tended to take the boys' view on science of late. It was meant to be explored. You couldn't explore anything if you were too busy playing bureaucrat. Still, if she couldn't use the viewer, and couldn't use her holo-masks since it might expose all of them in a critical moment, what could she conjure to show them Kim Possible was more than just brute force that once followed GJ?

She sat pondering that very question when someone knocked at the door.

Frowning because she wasn't expecting anyone, she pulled out her Kimmunicator, and flipped on the security app. Opening the security cam, she had to frown as she saw the visitor because it was someone she could have never expected. Ever.

Still, she looked determined, but then she always had. Kim rose to her feet as the woman knocked again, and unlocked the door as she eyed Bonnie Senior.

"Kimberly," Bonnie nodded. "I have to say, you look surprisingly normal after all I've heard."

"I do during the daylight now," she told her. "Part of Wade's ongoing cure he's working on," she told Bonnie who eyed her curiously. "Only when night falls again, I still tend to regain my less normalish look," she teased. "Even Wade hasn't figured out why, or how to get rid of it permanently yet. I sure hope he does soon, though."

"And that girl you have staying with you lately? I heard she's the same?"

"Yeah. Only she's sleeping now. She works night shifts at GJ."

"Whatever. I, ah, heard about Monique. That was horrible," she admitted with a degree of real emotion now.

"Yeah. So, did you want to come in? I guess you have a reason to be here if you came all this way in person?"

"I do," Bonnie said as she came in, looking around, but then settling onto the small divan in the living room.

"I'll tell you now, I'm not really part of GJ any longer, so if it is about Junior…."

"No, he's staying home and behaving since he got out again. I told him if he got arrested once more, I'm taking our children and leaving. Honestly, you think he would realize that is no way to raise any kind of children," Bonnie complained as Kim shut the door, and returned to the couch herself to sit across from Bonnie.

"Well, Junior is…."

She trailed off, not sure what to say.

"Yes, I know. Only he really is a nice guy if I can keep him away from Pops," she called the old man. "The old guy is still determined to come up with something that will top all his billionaire friends before he passes on even if he has lost a lot of his money again. Honestly, it's like having a major global company network to run isn't enough."

"Well, some people just don't know how to live in the real world. Like the guy that did this to me and Dana," she declared carelessly.

"I'll bet. So," the brunette said. "About Monique…."

"Yeah," Kim said. "She died a hero. She should have known better, but she saw what was going on, and tried to save some kids who got too close to those….clone creatures."

"I saw it on TV. Some of it, at least. It was horrible. I couldn't imagine being here."

"Right. Well, it's done, and we got rid of the creep that unleashed those monsters, so…. What do you need, Bonnie?"

"Well, the word is already spreading that Monique's 'Blossom Boutique' shops were left to you in her will."

"Oh. Yes," Kim nodded. "Pretty much stunned me, I'll admit."

"Well, she was always….pretty fond of you," Bonnie said blandly, looking around with a faint blush.

"I was very fond of her, too," Kim said quietly.

"Oh. So, ah, anyway, I heard about you inheriting, and I….I wondered what you planned on doing with them."

"Well, right now I'm interviewing competent managers to run the places for me. I hadn't thought much beyond that as yet," Kim admitted.

"How about I buy them off you."

"That's why you're here?"

"Let's be honest. I'm rather into the fashion scene myself. I know I don't have Monique's talent, but I am no slouch, and I can afford to hire designers that will do Blossom's credit. That said, we both know you wouldn't know how to manage, let alone design a tee shirt."

"Gee, don't beat around the bush, B," Kim told her. "Tell me how you really feel," she huffed as she glared at the still voluptuous woman that must still work out to stay in such shape.

"I'm not trying to insult you," Bonnie sighed. "This is a legitimate business opportunity here. We both know whatever you do, you aren't the type to run that kind of business, let alone keep it moving forward. I can do both. I have a few shops myself already, but if I add Blossoms to my growing chain, it will really help me without my having to worry about building from the ground up or break into new areas. It also gives you a tidy profit for whatever else you want to do."

"Well," Kim said, "I have to say you do make a few points. I have been wondering what to do, as well as wondering why Monique would leave me those shops."

"Even I can't tell you that," Bonnie said with a bland smile. "Unless she was trying to inspire you to update your fashion and wardrobe one last time."

Kim surprised Bonnie. She burst into laughter.

"She just might," Kim admitted. "She just might. I still remember her guessing Shego suggested I let her dress me for our….last date," Kim said, and suddenly looked sad for a moment.

"So…. You guys were dating?"

"We were…exploring our options," Kim admitted.

"You know. This should tell you something."

"Uh…. What now?"

"You are so hopeless," Bonnie told her. "What happened to her. Almost to you. Maybe you should leave those silly cops and start considering a life of your own, K before you end up really gone without anyone but a few friends to remember you were even here."

Kim eyed Bonnie, surprised by her outburst.

Then she realized Bonnie really did have a faint aura of grief around her.

"I know what you're trying to say. Trust me, I thought I was gone….that year I was….lost. That's why I decided to come clean and be honest with Moni. I thought…. Well, I thought we'd have plenty of time to explore our relationship. Only….that didn't happen."

"I don't want anything to happen to Junior either," Bonnie said. "He's had some close calls lately, too. Only when someone like you… I'm tired of tragedies in our town," Bonnie finally told her. "I want to make something good happen. So, name your price. I swear, Blossoms will do Monique's dream justice."

"I'm going to have to think on this one," she admitted. "Tell you what, give me a few days, and if you'll leave me your number, I'll call whatever I decide. Okay?"

"Just don't take too long," Bonnie said. "I'll be home visiting mom for the next week. She was bugging me about seeing the little rug rats again, so I came in for the week while Junior remodels the villa."

"Again?"

"Well, he blew up half of it playing with rockets," she said as she rolled her eyes.

"What did the old man say about that?"

"Nothing. He's been wrapped up with some business deal in Brazil lately still trying to recoup a lot of recent losses. He hasn't been home in weeks. Junior is probably hoping he can get the place fixed before he shows, though. Just call mom's house if you want to reach me. As I said, I'll be there through the week," Bonnie said as she climbed to her feet, and looked around.

"What is it?"

"I have to admit, your place looks nicer than I expected. I mean, I remember your college dorm room."

Kim blushed.

"Shego and Dana stay with me now. Shego is ironically a crazed domestic when she cuts loose, and can really unload if you make a mess around her," Kim admitted as she walked Bonnie to the door. "On the plus side, she is a great cook."

"I'm glad you're okay, Kim. I'm glad you made it back. Just…be careful. First those aliens, and now weird mad science again? Even your luck will run out one of these days," Bonnie told her.

"I'm pretty sure I'm retiring from GJ. I left them for the time being, and I'm not sure I even want to go back," she told Bonnie as she opened the door for her. "Finding out half their superiors were bent didn't help," she declared, acting as if she were surprised by it.

"I heard some of the stories. Call me," Bonnie said again and turned to leave as she headed for the small, white BMW parked at the end of her drive.

Kim waved her off, and then closed the door before resetting the security.

Walking down the hall, she looked in on Monique who was still sleeping deeply, and so she closed the door again. Going down to the lab, she decided to do some tinkering, and see if something came to mind now that she wasn't actually needing to work toward something critical. Maybe she could come up with an idea to excuse her sudden need to bury herself in private research.

It had to be something believable that people would understand someone like Kim Possible, world heroine would stop and drop all else to do. Something that would excuse her change of heart and yet show she was still working toward helping others.

Then she began to smile.
