Writer's Note:

November 21st is an important day in gaming history, not only is it the day that the Legend of Zelda series entered 3D territory in 1998, it's the day Sonic 2 on the SEGA Genesis came out and the world was fully introduced to Sonic's little buddy Miles Tails Prower. Birthdays are fun, including Sonic's birthday, so what's Tails' birthday like. Lets find out...

Disclaimer: Tails is a SEGA character not owned by me.

One bright morning in Central City within a yellow house shaped like a certain fox's head, young Miles Tails Prower the Fox climbed out of bed and opened the window to take in the summer breeze from outside as he woke up after a nice night's sleep.

Walking into the kitchen, he checked the calendar, marking off the days that remained and saw that today was the day, his twelfth birthday. A few years ago, he'd been eight, then yesterday he was eleven years old and now Tails was in the final year of his pre-teens.

He'd grown up a lot, especially since he first met Sonic that day on Westside Island, Tails had been very young then and now he was a bit older. The now twelve-year-old fox smiled contently, he couldn't wait to spend some time with his friends today.

Riiiiiiiing! The Tails-phone on the nearby desk rang and the fox boy picked it up, "Hullo." He said, "Tails' place in Central City."

"Hey, buddy!" The snarky, wisecracking voice of world hero Sonic the Hedgehog spoke on the other end, "Happy birthday, how're ya doin', bro?"

"Hi Sonic, yeah, I'm good. Just woke up and I'm thrilled about today, looking forward to seeing you and the others real soon."

"Way past cool, see ya later, birthday fox boy."

The line went blank and Tails hung up, knowing he would be receiving a couple of happy birthday phone calls from some of his friends up until he saw them later in the day for his very special birthday party. He took a quick shower and got himself some coffee and then...

Riiiiiing riiiiiiing riiiiiiing! The phone rang again and Tails answered it, this time, the caller was none other than Rouge the Bat of all people. "Hey handsome, happy birthday." The white bat said in a sweet tone not compared to her seductive and flirtatious tone.

"Oh hi Rouge." Tails said casually, "Thanks, nice to hear from you."

"Anytime, sweetie. I look forward to seeing you today."

"Thanks, talk to you later, bat girl."

No sooner than Tails had hung up, the phone rang again and the next caller was, much to the birthday boy's shock, Doctor Eggman of all people. "Oh ho ho ho!" The doctor cackled, "Happy birthday, Tails. How's your relatively peaceful day so far, looking forward to your big party?!"

"Yeah, just don't launch an attack, Eggman!" Tails remarked.

"Doctor Eggman does not plan on launching an attack." Orbot's voice came on the other end, "As a matter of fact, he will be attending your birthday under a flag of truce and you will be seeing me and Cubot there at the party. Ciao for now, Mr. Prower."

The phone call went blank and Tails put the phone down, unconcerned since Eggman would not be attacking to day, he was also relieved since Orbot's voice sounded assuring and soothing. All he wanted was a normal, peaceful birthday day without any bad guys attacking.

His last couple birthdays were relatively fine, despite the fact a crisis had occurred on his last the previous year, a huge monster had shown up and attacked the city on a rampage, thankfully the gang had managed to take it down and the rest of Tails' birthday had been nonstop fun.

As a matter of fact, Tails couldn't remember a time where Eggman did attack on his birthday. If he did recall, it was probably when he was very young and so much time had passed to a point where the fox boy had forgotten the details completely save for some vague info.

Later that early afternoon, after eating lunch and working on updating some projects of his in the workshop, Tails walked out of the house, locked the door and took to the air with his two tails spinning as he headed off to where his friends were gathering for his birthday party.

The metropolis landscape of Central City was out of sight behind the fox and the grassy countryside rolled beneath him, his flying strength never departed and he never got tired as Tails flew on and on until he was in Green Grassland Zone.

He spotted Sonic waiting for him on a small hillside down below, the speedster had spotted the fox and was waving, Tails waved back and began his descent, slowing down the spinning of his rotor tails all the way until he landed near Sonic.

"Nice to see you here, Sonic." Tails said as he fist bumped his big brother figure.

"Thanks, birthday boy." The blue hedgehog replied, "Everyone's waitin' for ya."

Focusing on keeping up with Sonic as the hedgehog dashed off, Tails ran like the wind with his rotors spinning wildly all the way until he and Sonic were in the clear meadow where they found the guests waiting by a picnic table all set up with birthday decorations everywhere.

"Happy Birthday, Tails!" The guests greeted in unison, Tails could see that Amy, Knuckles, Cream, Cheese, Vanilla, Vector, Espio, Charmy, Shadow, Rouge, Omega, Silver, Blaze, Big and Froggy were all there, including Eggman and his two lacky-bots, who held up a white truce flag.

"Aw, thanks, you guys." Tails said with a smile, Sonic lead him over to the table and the fox ended up shaking hands with an almost unusually polite Doctor Eggman as Orbot and Cubot shook his hand as well, offering their sincere congrats on making it to the big one two.

The fox joined Sonic for some yummy birthday chili dogs while everyone enjoyed themselves, Charmy played tag with Vector and Espio as Cream and Blaze played a bit of tic-tac-toe while Froggy interacted with Cheese and Big played fetch with some Chao.

Amazingly, Eggman didn't seem to be acting suspicious and plotting something nasty, he was on his best behavior as Orbot and Cubot did whatever they did, be it chasing each other or pretending to have a robot laser gun fight with fake laser guns.

It didn't take long before it was time for the cake, which Vanilla was said to have made herself with Cream's assistance, one look at Tails' cake and it was decently put together with brownies and frosting and twelve candles on it already lit up.

"Whats your wish, Tails?" Amy asked as Tails prepared to blow out the candles, the fox didn't have to say what it was at that second, he would tell them soon. For now, he took a deep breath and blew as hard as he could until the candles were extinguished.

"So, what did you wish for, buddy?" Sonic asked as they dug into the cake.

"I wished for a brighter future and more awesome birthdays." Tails replied.

Cream came forward with a wrapped package in her hands. "Happy birthday, Tails." She said in her sweet manner, "I got something special for you." Not holding back, the fox happily unwrapped the gift and gasped with amazement as he held a beady necklace in his hands.

"I made it myself." The ten-year-old rabbit said as the fox put the necklace around his neck, "I thought it would be really cute seeing you with a necklace I made just for you."

"Thank you so much, Cream." Tails said happily. Sonic tapped him on the shoulder, looking almost unsure about what he was about to do, but then he brought out a bracelet with a green orb and placed it on Tails' wrist. "Chip's bracelet." The hedgehog said, "Thought you'd like it."

"Actually, it's nice." Tails said, respecting the bracelet, "Thanks, Sonic!"

He and his friends spent the rest of the day hanging out and playing games here and there, chatting about days gone by and what to expect in the future. All was well with nothing too major happening, no attacks, nothing bad occurring. Later that night, after getting home, Tails sat at the table, feeling happy about one thing: His birthday had been awesome...

The End

(Happy birthday, Tails)
