A/N: Hello, my loyal readers. Here is an update for you. I'm guessing you're probably thinking (it's about time!). Ha-ha. I wanted to ask you a question regarding my updating schedule. I am only 3 chapters ahead. I prefer to update when I'm farther ahead (I'd like to be 5 chapters or more ahead) so I can update more often. Here's the deal. I am only able to write on the weekends due to my work schedule. I have other stories in progress (some that aren't posted yet) and I'd like to work on this one and others that readers are more passionate about. I only have so much time on the weekends to write because I have other commitments that I tend to. I have a great beta who I feel is editing at a good pace. I write each chapter and send it to her with my notes on the next one and she lets me know if I need to make any changes. I know you'd like updates weekly/etc, but I can't do that. My best updating schedule is either every two/three weeks or at worst once a month. Here's my question for you that you can answer in your reviews please. Do you prefer I update when I have chapters done and ready (which may take longer than a month depending on how fast I can write/send chapters to my beta as she edits my other stories too) or do you want me to take a long hiatus from the site (regarding this story only) and only come back when the story is near completion and I can update more often? Please know I have no intentions of quitting this story. There are some storyline's in this story that I want to make sure I write correctly. I may have a beta, but in the end, all mistakes are my own. I appreciate all who review/follow/favorite. Please know I will only continue the stories on this site (this one included) if I get enough reviews/follows/favorites because, to me, it's not worth continuing a story when not many people are interested. I have put stories on hiatus as I lost readers. I don't want this story to be one of them. So, it depends on YOU, my loyal fans. Please let me know if you want more and if you can kindly do, answer my question in your reviews. Like I stated in the past, I realize I'm not the best updater, so that's why I want your opinion regarding updates. I deeply appreciate all who review each chapter. Ana discovered her boyfriend Jose cheated on her b/c she wasn't ready for sex. He asks for another chance, but is denied. Christian/Ana meet for the first time & he's cold towards her until seeing she's in pain & offers her comfort but she says she's okay. They can't stop thinking of the other after their encounter. Christian tries to find her by hiring his bodyguard Taylor, but isn't able to find her. Christian is hesitant on another relationship b/c of how Elena treated him. Ana b/c of how Jose treated her. Ana/Kate each applies to be Editor at a major company...Kate at Boston Legal and Ana at Christian's company. Jose vows revenge against Kate/Ana b/c of how they 'treated' him. Christian refuses to see Elena & Taylor supports him. Gail (Grey's maid) hates how Elena treated Christian & makes it known. Elena tries to get Taylor to talk to Christian for her but he refuses. Elena/her estranged hubby Linc get into a fight when she wants him out but he states it's his house too & both their names are on the deed. She vows to get rid of him even tho he said nothing she can do. He taunts her on the fact that her bad decisions turned Christian away as Christian loved her but Elena chose to go back to her husband and she now regrets that decision. Kate has a secret that Jose threatens her w/ & Ana knows it too. Kate's horrified by it. She demands proof & Jose turns to his friend to get it. Their connection will hurt Kate/Ana.

Title: FSOG: From Heartbreak to Happiness?

Summary: Ana and Christian both suffered heartbreak from their last relationship with other people. Christian from his first attempt at one and Ana after getting cheated on. Once they meet, it's obvious there's a spark. But the question is, can they conquer their fears of getting hurt again?

Chapter 12

(What just happened here? Ana didn't understand. One minute, Christian is his normal self and the next? He's running out like a bat out of hell. It was like he had a panic attack of some sorts. Ana didn't know if Christian ever had a panic attack. Maybe he didn't reciprocate the chemistry she was starting to feel towards him, but he didn't know how to tell her. He was an asshole to some people, yes. To Ana, he didn't appear to be that way)

(She wasn't quite sure what she was feeling for him yet. She knew that he probably had a side to him, a side that she wouldn't like. In all honesty, did she want to get to know that side of him, that mean streak, if that's what you call it? She wasn't sure)

(She thought her interview was going okay so far. Was she wrong to think that? She wanted to believe that he was showing a different side of him, a softer side. Maybe she was wrong. She was still reeling from Jose's betrayal. Sooner or later, she was going to need to put it behind her. She wasn't ready to do that just yet. To be honest, it looked like Jose wanted revenge because of how Ana 'treated' him)

(Christian didn't need to know about that. He seemed sincere in wanting to help her with her personal issues. However, she didn't know him well enough to let him in. For all she knew, he would treat her the same way Jose did. She was probably mistaken in that assumption. Still, she wasn't ready to open herself up to him yet)

(Ana couldn't help but wonder about the infamous Christian Grey. Was he ruthless to everyone he made contact with? Did he ever show a softer side to anyone? Courtney seemed intimidated by him, but she didn't always show it. From what Christian said, he gives her attitude and Courtney sometimes gives it right back. Ana had to laugh at that as she doesn't see too many people standing up to the infamous Christian Grey)

(Ana shakes her head to squash her thoughts. Christian still wasn't back yet. Does she go after him? Does she leave him be? Maybe he suddenly got sick. He did rush out of his office in a hurry. She didn't want to be nosy in case something happened. However, she was concerned about him)

(Christian, who wound up in the men's bathroom, breathes deeply as he splashes water on his face. He looks down and rests his hands on the edge of the bathroom sink. He closes his eyes as he continues taking deep breathes. He shakes his head as he attempts to control his breathing. He splashes more cold water on his face before getting some paper towels to wipe it dry)

Christian: "What the hell just happened? Jesus Christ. That's never happened before." (sighs) "Then again, what just happened with Ana..." (confused) "What the hell is happening to me? Why am I trying to put myself into her world? What happened in her past is her business. I have no right interfering. Then again, when I was that close to her...sitting right by her...looking into her eyes..."

(He shook his head violently as he tried to get a grip)

Christian: "Get a hold of yourself, Grey. You can't get close to her. You just can't. You won't do yourself or her any good." (sighs loudly) "Damn it! This is why I shouldn't even consider hiring her for my company! You know damn well that if you do hire her, you'll be around her all of the time. How the fuck is that going to help matters?"

(He closes his eyes and tries calming down. He shakes his head and rolls his eyes)

Christian: "I can't believe that I didn't see it until now. What the fuck am I going to do? I don't want to feel this way. I shouldn't be feeling this way. I need to fight it, but-but can I? Do I want to?" (scoffs) "I should. I promised myself that I wouldn't get into another relationship after what that bitch did." (shakes his head in defeat) "But I fear it may be out of my control. What the fuck am I going to do?"

(He looks at his reflection in the mirror. His face is still red and he's a bit sweaty. He looks away from the mirror, but ends up coming face to face with his reflection again as he comes to a realization. He wasn't ready to say it out loud, but it was as if he had no choice. His heart was more powerful than what his head was saying. One was telling him to throw caution to the wind. The other was telling him he's an idiot for attempting to go down this road again)

Christian: "Even though you don't want to, Grey...even though you are trying to fight it like crazy...pretty soon you may not be able to fight it. You're feeling things for her that you know you shouldn't be."

(He shakes his head again, this time in determination. He didn't care what he had to do. He was NOT going down this road again)

Christian: "Get over yourself, Grey."

(A thought comes to him)

Christian: "She probably doesn't even feel that way towards you, anyway. She's here for the job, not for you." (vows) "You can't mix business with pleasure. Not happening."

(He jumps up slightly when there is a knock at the bathroom door, before Courtney's voice is heard)

Courtney: "Mr. Grey? Are you okay? I saw you running in the bathroom suddenly. I just wanted to make sure that you were okay."

(Christian looks towards the door as he speaks)

Christian: "Yes, Courtney, I'm fine. My apologies for worrying you. I'll be out in a minute."

Courtney: "Okay. I'm at my desk if you need anything."

Christian: "Thank you."

(Christian hears Courtney walking away. He sighs deeply as he knew he needed to pull himself together. Ana was waiting for him in his office. He was almost afraid to come face to face with her again. Then the feelings he had before would come rushing back. He couldn't let her know or think he had any weaknesses as he never showed them. He cursed at himself, telling himself to get over it. He promised himself that he would never show anyone his weaknesses, no matter who they were. He splashes cold water on his face once more and then grabs a few paper towels to clean his red skin. He clears his throat and opens the door and walks out)

(Courtney gives him a look of concern, but he just shakes his head and smiles politely in response. She nods her head and continues her work. When he reaches his office door, he sighs deeply before going in)

Christian: "My apologies, Miss Steele. I didn't mean to rush out of here like that."

(As he walks to his desk, Ana speaks)

Ana: "Mr. Grey, are you sure you're okay? You-You rushed out so quickly. I thought maybe you had gotten sick or something."

(Christian chuckles as he sits in his office chair)

Christian: "I assure you, I'm fine. No need to be concerned."

(She can't help but be concerned over his well being. She had a weird feeling that he wasn't being completely honest. She didn't know what possessed her to make her next move. She attempted to get out of her chair and lean over his desk to place her hand over his in a quest to comfort him in case something was wrong. She is caught off-guard by his actions as well as his cruel words)

Christian: (coldly) "Don't touch me. Did I ask you to?" (yanking his hand away)

(She jumps slightly as she quickly sits back in her chair)

Ana: (stutters) "N-N-No. I-I just...I just thought..."

Christian: (rudely) "You thought that what? I was some scared little boy you could comfort? I'm not."

(She didn't understand what was going on. One minute, he was all kind and sweet and the next? He was cold and cruel. Was it something that she did? Maybe she did something wrong and she didn't realize it. She nervously gulps in some air as she attempts to speak)

Ana: "I-I'm sorry, Mr. Grey. You just...You just looked upset about something."

(She gathers herself and clears her throat)

Ana: "My apologies. It won't happen again."

(He sighs deeply as he realizes he was out of line)

Christian: "No, please accept mine. I was inexcusably rude just now. It's not directed towards you. There is something that is weighing on my mind and I took it out on you."

Ana: (nods & smiles) "Apology accepted. I know what it's like to have a hard time concentrating because of sensitive topics."

Christian: (chuckles softly) "Thanks for understanding."

(He thinks for a moment before pulling himself together. He offers a polite smile as she rests her hands on her lap)

Christian: "I've come to a decision on whether or not to hire you to be my Editor at 'Shades of Grey."

Ana: (nods) "Okay."

(She tries not to show her nervous state. She wanted to be brave for him, but was finding it difficult to. At long last, she would know whether or not she had a chance at his company)

(Meanwhile, in the park, Jose comes face to face with his partner in crime. They exchange pleasantries before getting down to business)

Person: "So, what's the verdict on Kavanagh?"

Jose: "She wants proof that I'm telling the truth."

Person: (raises their eyebrows) "You'd think that she'd know you were serious when you told her what you knew." (folds their arms) "I gotta say...never killed a family member. Whether it's on purpose or accidental."

Jose: "Yeah, didn't know she had it in her." (scoffs) "Always knew she was a bitch." (smirks) "Now, it's interesting to know that she's not perfect like she pretends to be."

Person: (confused) "I wonder what role Ana plays in Kate's secret? I mean, I know that she helped Kate cover it up and everything. I'm curious how much Ana knows?"

Jose: "Oh, considering they are joined at the hip, I'm sure Kate told Ana everything." (spits) "I'm looking forward to seeing those bitches pay."

Person: (chuckles) "Sounds like they have a death wish coming."

Jose: "They screwed me over. They act like they're perfect. They're not. When can you get me that proof?"

Person: "When do you need it?"

Jose: "Tomorrow morning at the latest. The bitch demanded it and I told her my pal would get it."

Person: (turns their head slightly) "You didn't tell her who I was, did you?"

Jose: (smiles evilly) "Nope. Because she doesn't know that you secretly have a grudge against the two of them, too."

Person: (chuckles) "It'll be interesting to see their reactions when they do find out."
