Thank you to those who were kind in reviewing, following and favoriting this story. I really appreciate it. As long as the reviews/follows/favorites keep coming like last chapter (thank you btw), I'll keep updating this story. This will be the last update until the new year and the reason is this…..my work schedule has been busier than usual. Some writers can handle a busy work schedule and posting at the same time. I'm not one of those people. After the busy season is done, I will have more time to write and more time to update this story. I'm sure some of you are frustrated because of my updating schedule. Please know I have no control over it due to work. If you feel the need to contact me to discuss everything, I'm available through PM and I have no problem answering your questions/concerns. Enjoy this update and please review.
Title: FSOG: From Heartbreak to Happiness?
Summary: Ana and Christian both suffered heartbreak from their last relationship with other people. Christian from his first attempt at one and Ana after getting cheated on. Once they meet, it's obvious there's a spark. But the question is, can they conquer their fears of getting hurt again?
Chapter 15
(It is Ana's first day of work and she is a mess. She was supposed to be in at 8am and it's almost 10am. Shit! Shit! Shit!, she thought to herself! She's going to get fired for sure! She should have known that this job wasn't going to last. Anastasia Steele at Christian Grey's company? What the hell was she thinking? Her dream job to be an Editor at a major company and she has always imagined herself at Christian's company)
(She knew she'd probably lose her new job for sure. What kind of an editor shows up two hours late on her very first day? She would plead with him to give her another chance. Would she deserve it? She prayed to God that he felt she did)
(She would not tell Christian why she was truly late. He didn't deserve to get messed up in her wreck of a life. She still couldn't believe her luck on what Jose was doing to her and Kate. Fuck, she knew Jose had a grudge against them because she dumped his cheating ass. She just didn't think that he'd stoop this low. The Jose she knew would never do this. He really changed. She couldn't believe it. She didn't know what the hell she was going to do with this situation)
(She knew what she had to do now, though. Get ready for her first day on the job at 'Grey Magazine'. She just prayed that he wouldn't fire her)
***Christian Grey Enterprises***
(Ana nervously walks through the front doors of her boss' building. She was trying not to show her fear, but was failing miserably. As she gets to the 5th floor by elevator, she breathes deeply and briefly closes her eyes. She was wearing a black satin skirt that goes just above her knees and a V-neck black satin blouse. She had her hair up in a bun. For jewelry, she had some hoop earrings on and a cross necklace. She wore light red lipstick and pink blush. She was hoping she looked okay. Kate told her earlier she looked beautiful)
(Once she reached the 5th floor, the elevator door opens. Ana walks out, with Courtney and Ana facing each other. Courtney looks nervous, but offers a smile)
Courtney: "H-Hi, Miss Steele."
Ana: "Uh..um…just Ana, please."
(Courtney knew Ana was very late for her first day and knew Christian would blow a gasket over it. Courtney offers another smile while speaking)
Courtney: "Mr. Grey is expecting you."
(Ana scoffs and talks under her breath)
Ana: "And if he's having a good day, maybe he won't yell while he fires me."
(Ana smiles and clears her throat while speaking in a normal tone)
Ana: "Thank you, Courtney."
(Courtney opens the front door to Christian's office to allow Ana in. Before Courtney departs, she whispers to Ana)
Courtney: "Good luck."
Ana: (scoffs lightly) "I'm gonna need it."
(After walking in, Courtney shuts the door. Christian gets up from his desk chair and offers a smile)
Christian: "Miss Steele."
(Ana quickly raises her hand and speaks quickly)
Ana: "Mr. Grey, I'm so deeply sorry I'm late on my first day. I'm so sorry. I promise you that I'm not usually like this on the first day at a new job."
(She gulps in some air and tries to contain her sorrow. He continues to face her and studies her facial expressions. He could tell she was a nervous wreck. He wasn't entirely convinced that it was the first day on the job jitters)
Christian: "Miss Steele…"
Ana: "Just Ana, please."
Christian: (nods) "Ana." (tilts his head) "You don't seem like yourself. I know we don't know each other
very well, but….are you okay?"
Ana: (nods) "I'm fine."
Christian: "Correct me if I'm wrong, but you seem worried about something."
(Ana nervously laughs as she speaks)
Ana: "I'm fine, really. It's just nerves on my first day. It didn't help that I was so incredibly late. It doesn't show me as being very responsible. I'm so sorry, Mr. Grey. I will completely understand if I'm fired because of it."
(He continued to study her this whole time and knew that something wasn't right. He was determined to get to the bottom of it. He goes to his door and locks it. He then goes to the phone on his desk and calls Courtney on his speaker phone)
Courtney: "Yes, Mr. Grey?"
Christian: "Please hold all of my calls until further notice. Until I tell you otherwise, please cancel my meetings, as well."
Courtney: "No problem, Mr. Grey."
Christian: "Thank you, Courtney."
(Christian looks at Ana and speaks)
Christian: "Let's sit down."
Ana: (shakes her head) "I-I don't understand. I-I thought I was fired."
Christian: "No, you're not fired. Let's talk. Please, sit down."
(There are two chairs in front of Christian's desk. He sits down on the right side and points to the one on the left for her to sit in. After they get comfortable, he speaks)
Christian: (sighs) "I know we don't know each other that well. I do, however, see that you're a gentle soul. I may be your boss, Ana, but I hate seeing you distraught. It's obvious the way you're acting…nervous, fidgety…that something is wrong….And I don't think it's first day jitters. Although, that'd be completely understandable."
(He struggles over whether or not to place his hand over hers as he knew that probably wasn't the most professional thing to do)
Christian: "Please know that I'm always there for you, Anastasia."
Ana: (nervously) "J-Just Ana, please. Just Ana."
Christian: (chuckles) "I need to remember that."
(He briefly looks down and momentarily closes his eyes as he sighs)
Christian: "To be completely honest, I think I care more than I should about you."
(He looks up to meet her eyes)
Christian: "There's something about you that pulls me in. I don't know how to explain it."
(After realizing he may be saying too much too fast, he clears his throat and shakes his head)
Christian: "Nevertheless, if you need help of any kind, I'm here."
(Ana closes her eyes and looks down, sighing softly. She wished she could talk to him. They barely knew each other, though. What right did she have to dump her problems on him? None)
Ana: (shakes her head) "You didn't sign on to help your employees with their personal problems."
(She looks away and chuckles dryly)
Ana: "I'm doing the wrong thing if I open up."
Christian: (shakes his head) "I will never force you to open up to me. I do, however, want you to know that I'm always here if you need to talk or help of any kind."
(She looks away from him and shakes her head as she tries to figure him out. She raises her hands as she faces him)
Ana: "I don't understand. Why do you care so much for someone you barely know? I-I mean, we just met not too long ago. We don't know much about each other."
Christian: (shakes his head) "To be honest, I wish I knew. I really do. But, I don't."
(Without realizing it, a laugh escapes his mouth)
Christian: "I'm sure you know by now that I can be an asshole who doesn't give a shit about things or others." (small smile) "However, you bring out my softer side."
Ana: (sighs deeply) "Mr. Grey…"
Christian: (smiles) "If you insist on me calling you Ana, then I insist on you calling me Christian."
Ana: (nods) "Okay, Christian, if you knew what was really going on, you could be in legal trouble. I'd never forgive myself if I let that happen to you. You don't deserve that."
(Christian is more confused than ever! What the hell is going on? He didn't understand things at all)
Christian: (stutters in confusion) "Ana, I-I don't understand. What the hell has you so scared?"
(Ana looks at him wide-eyed as she didn't realize she let so much fall from her lips. Fuck! She clears her throat and offers a smile)
Ana: "I'm fine, Mr.….I mean, Christian. I'm ready for work whenever you are."
***Jose's Apartment***
(He knew it was time to get the ball rolling. He took a beer out of his fridge and, after taking the top off, took a long swig of it. Now, he just had to wait for his partner in crime)
Jose: "He should be here right about…"
(Knock on the door)
Jose: (smirks) "Now."
(Jose goes to answer his front door revealing his accomplice)
Jose: "Well, hello there. I was just thinking about you."
Accomplice: "Are we ready to get things in order?"
Jose: (nods) "Yep. The girls saw the pictures and knows there are copies." (chuckles evilly) "I don't know about you, but I'm ready to put those two bitches in their place."
Accomplice: "Being a detective doesn't pay much."
Jose: (grumbles) "Neither does being an artist. Especially when no one wants to buy your work." (angrily) "Ana took care of that when she 'warned' people against me. Kate and her big mouth didn't help matters."
Accomplice: "Kate is definitely a tease. A few years ago, I asked her out and she acted like she was too good for me." (scoffs) "She's going to pay for that."
Jose: "I told Ana I was sorry for my mistakes. She acts like I'm Satan when she's…." (sarcastically) "So perfect."
Accomplice: (nods) "It sounds like what they need is to be brought down a peg or two."
Jose: (smirks) "Ready to put the plan into action?"
Accomplice: (chuckles evilly) "It's showtime."
***Elena/Linc's***
Linc: (frustratedly) "You just don't give up the idea that Grey will take you back, will you? Elena, he's moved on! Deal with it!"
Elena: (shakes her head) "No, I know he still loves me. Unlike YOU, he treats women with respect."
Linc: "He's a ruthless businessman. He'll stop at nothing to get what he wants. Just like that young brunette woman he hired at 'Grey Magazine'…pretty soon she'll be in his bed." (curiously) "I wonder if he'll pull that off?"
Elena: (scoffs) "Not a chance. Christian loves me. I'll prove it."
Linc: (raises one eyebrow) "How?"
Elena: (determined tone) "Once I'm done with you, he'll be mine again." (chuckles) "In fact, I've been wanting to say this for a while now."
Linc: "Oh, yeah? What's that?"
Elena: "Not only will that girl not be a problem…but I want a divorce."
(Linc looks wide-eyed at his estranged wife)
Linc: "What did you say?"
Elena: "You heard me."
(He never thought he'd hear her say that)
***Pacific Publishing Company***
(Kate stands in front of the doors to her new job. She smiles wide as she couldn't wait to begin)
Kate: "This is it. No turning back now, Kavanagh."
