Savannah was doing her best to stay calm and not randomly blow up at the second in command. Prowl had only been doing what he thought was best, there was no reason for her to be mad at him. She was doing her best to control her irritation at him, she really was. But she couldn't help the irritation that sometimes slipped through when she was speaking to him… or the curtness of some of her answers.
"Prowl is just trying to help keep a problem from forming, Savannah." Optimus stated in exasperation.
"Doesn't mean that he didn't need to at least talk to me about it first." Savannah griped. "I told you what is going to happen. And we haven't even come up with cover names for the rest of them! You and Jazz have one, and so do Hound and Mirage… but the other six don't and I personally am not looking forward to explaining to my parent's why I have an escort."
"You are a top government official." Optimus stated seriously. "Therefore you have to have an escort to ensure your safety."
"Yes, but how to explain that they each have to drive their own vehicles?" Savannah snapped back. "That's the part that I'm having trouble with."
"Each vehicle is specially designed for each of the different areas of expertise that each of your escorts have. Therefore they must drive their own vehicles so that they have their equipment if it becomes necessary to protect you or your sister." Optimus replied blandly.
Savannah was quiet for several minutes before she sighed and shrugged. Optimus would find an answer if it became necessary to explain anything to her parents.
"They aren't going to trust you guys for a while." She finally muttered. "And that is what irritates me the most. My parents are going to be suspicious of all of you… especially you Optimus."
Silence reigned in the cab, only the sound of Kay-9's systems broke it. Savannah was slumped in the seat and she kept her eyes closed.
"Why would they not trust that we are trying to keep the two of you safe?" Optimus asked gently, he was trying not to rile her up any further.
"Because I can almost guarantee that they are going to blame you guys for my eyes." Savannah sighed deeply. "And they are suspicious of any man that I seem even slightly interested in. I mean, they'll be nice to your face… but they'll start in on me about it the moment you are out of their sight."
Optimus was quiet, he knew why she didn't want to see her parents. They would question her about everything, and there were several answers that she was not allowed to give as written in her contract with the government. The Autobots were still a secret to most of the world. She was unable to answer anything about what her job actually was.
Optimus, we are approaching the Price family household.
Prowl's statement through the speakers caused Savannah to jump and Optimus to sigh. Prowl seemed to have the worst timing sometimes.
"Thank you Prowl." Optimus replied calmly.
I would like to apologize for not speaking with Savannah before I agreed to her parent's demands. Katrina has been explaining the… situation between Savannah and her parental units.
Savannah tensed yet again and Optimus realized that there was something that she hadn't told him about why she was so against seeing her parents.
"Tell Katrina that I don't want the world knowing about several things." Savannah ground out between clenched teeth. "And thank you for your apology, it is accepted and appreciated."
Savannah was on edge again. She sat rigidly in the seat and her expression was guarded. Optimus didn't even have time to ask her what Katrina could have told Prowl, they were pulling into the driveway of the Price parent's household.
"Savannah…"
"I'll explain later, Optimus." Savannah replied curtly. "Just know that they will be fussing over me and some things may be said that are… harsh."
Optimus remained silent, he trusted that Savannah would explain what Katrina had told Prowl. But at the moment she was preparing to climb out of his cab.
"Kay, you need to put up a hologram to hide the fact that you aren't a normal dog." She instructed the petro-hound. "Either a golden retriever or a German shepherd will do. Optimus don't forget to activate your holoform."
"It is activated Savannah, as are the holoforms of the others." He responded calmly.
"Okay, good…" Savannah closed her eyes and took a deep breath as Optimus came to a stop. "Let's do this."
And she was out of his cab before he could say another word. A man with greying hair had stepped onto the porch followed by a black haired woman. They had frozen at the sight of so many cars, and then they had registered that their eldest daughter had stepped out of the semi cab.
"Savannah!" The woman's voice had taken on a shrill tone of surprise and joy. But there was an undertone of disapproval.
"Hello mother." Savannah replied in monotone. "Father, I see that you recovered from your 'heart attack' without any problem."
"Now Savannah you know why we tricked you like that. You hadn't come home in four years, and you had barely spoken to us." Savannah's father stated seriously.
Savannah tensed up, and Optimus realized that her parents hadn't even noticed that she couldn't see them.
"Oh honey, look at what they've done to your face." Savannah's mother rushed forward and put her hands on her daughter's cheeks. "How can you even see with the damage done to your eyes?"
Savannah gave a curt laugh and then motioned to Kay-9 who was standing beside her. Her mother glanced down at the dog and then back to her daughters face.
"What, why are you motioning to the dog?"
"I'm BLIND mother." Savannah spat. "This is Kay, my seeing-eye dog. Just like always, neither of you pay even a scrap of attention."
"You should show your mother some more respect young lady." Savannah's father snapped as he stepped off the porch. "And if you think you are leaving this house and going back to wherever you were now that we know what they've allowed to happen to our daughter, you have another thing coming Savannah Lynn! No more running off and abandoning your family for foolish whims."
"And the rest of you can get off our property." The mother of the Price sisters snapped. "You've done your part, and you are no longer needed."
Everything was frozen as the words of the Price parents sunk in. Sideswipe was immediately on guard and Jazz was glaring at the parental figures. The others shared a look of shocked confusion while Optimus put his hands up in a calming gesture.
"Mr. and Mrs. Price, we are not leaving these two without a proper escort and protection." Optimus stated firmly. "If we leave the premises then they will go with us."
"And we would go willingly." Katrina stepped forward. "Oh yeah, did you remember that I was coming too? Or did you forget me like you always do?"
"Katrina you will be quiet while the adults discuss business." Their mother stated curtly.
"Oh, did you forget that I'm an adult too?" Katrina snapped.
"The two of you were always doing this!" Savannah exploded. "We are adults, and you cannot control us as you did when we were five!"
"You still need to apologize for running off with that lowlife husband of yours young lady!" Savannah's father seethed back.
"His name was Brian, and if you forgot he died protecting me!" Savannah threw her mother's hands off of her and stepped toward the sound of her father's voice. "He's the whole reason why I'm alive!"
"What on earth has gotten into you Savannah!? You know better than to yell at your father like that." Their mother hissed.
"I am not going to take any more bullshit from either of you, that's what has gotten into me Margaret!" Savannah rounded on her mother. "The two of you have spent my entire life trying to control me, and I took it silently. But now I know where my priorities are! I'm not going to let you degrade me and yell at me like you always have. I had a lot of time to think about things just a few months ago! You aren't even a bit worried about how I was blinded, and you don't give a shit! You just want to control me and Katrina like you always have. No more! I will not let you control me, and I will not let you speak to me as if I am nothing but a stupid child! I am not staying, in fact we are leaving right now!"
Optimus stepped forward and placed his hand at the small of Savannah's back, she was trembling. And he didn't know if it was from overexertion or from the pure anger she was displaying at that moment.
"We aren't going to return until you've proven to both of us that you have changed. I should have never even let Paul set this up." Katrina stepped up beside her sister. "I knew what you guys were going to try to do. And this is the last thing that Savannah needs after just beginning to recover from the torture that she was put through. Yeah, she was tortured."
The looks of shock from both of their parents had caused Katrina to let out a bitter laugh.
"And that is why she never wants to see you guys, you always do this. You don't care about how we feel or how we think, you never did. Orion… help Savannah back into the truck, we're leaving."
"Now hold on just a second, this is kidnapping!" Savannah's father shouted.
"We are willing to leave with them, and we are adults." Savannah stated with a sort of deadly calm tone. "You call the police and I will call my contacts to reverse every charge you've ever placed on a person. I am a government liaison, and I will use it to make sure that neither of you ever bother Katrina or I again."
"Savannah, we can work this out." Margaret, their mother, pleaded.
"No, I am not going to give you a chance to try and guilt me or Katrina into staying. There is nothing you can hold as leverage any longer. I have accepted everything in my past, and that is where I will leave it." Savannah's voice became cold and distant. "Goodbye Margaret, Kyle."
She nodded to each parent in turn and then nodded to Optimus in order to let him know that she was ready to leave. Optimus shot her parents one last look and then motioned to the others that they were leaving.
Savannah sat rigidly as they turned around and left. She stayed like that until she was sure that they were several miles away, and then she slumped as tears began to flow from her eyes. Optimus stayed silent as they traveled further and further away from the Price household.
/Jazz, find out everything you can about their parents, Margaret and Kyle Price. I want to know exactly what these two may have been put through in their lives./
/Sure thing boss bot. I'll get to looking right away./
Optimus closed the private channel before returning his attention to Savannah. He wanted to know what had happened to her, even if he had to find out on his own.
