Hi, I know time travel fics aren't exactly the most original fics when it comes to Star Wars but I just finished The Force Unleashes and thought it would be interesting sending Galen Marek AKA Starkiller back to the past.
The support for this story has been incredible, I honestly didn't expect this to get so much support. Thank you all so much.
Shoutouts to GrandMasterNinjaRen, DJBchimeraGoD and Karsus the Damned who left a review on chapter 4
Hope you enjoy this story, feel free to give any tips and advice.
Meanwhile, on Coruscant a certain Sith Lord was gazing out across the cityscape, anger coursing through his body as he sensed this new Sith appear from nowhere. After spending almost one thousand years in hiding, this Sith had revealed that they were very much still here. Admittedly that was to be Mauls job but at least he would be killing Jedi to make a point that the Sith were here and ready to eradicate the Jedi. This Sith seemed to almost be doing the opposite as he was clearly travelling with the Jedi and assisted in the rescue of Queen Amidala.
Another lord of the Sith entered the room and stood next to him. "Calm yourself Sidious, if you continue to radiant your anger like this you will alert the Jedi to your presence. We have spent too long planning for you to ruin everything because of your anger."
Sidious internally snarled at his master, he couldn't wait for the day where he would finally be rid of him and take his place as the master of the Sith. "My apologies master, this new presence in the dark side has changed everything."
A light chuckle escaped Lord Plagueis as he thought of the young Sith warrior. "Yes, this Sith is something else. It's infuriatingly impressive really." He glanced at his apprentice and could see that he was waiting for some kind of explanation for the pseudo praise he had given this Sith. "Not long ago he was communicating to someone in the force itself, there was an old man and Darth Starkiller stood there." Darth Plageuis showed his apprentice a hologram of the pair interacting in the void.
Sidious' eyes widened momentarily before his face returned to its previous scowl. "Do you know what he was talking about and who to?" There was no reply from Lord Plagueis, and Sidious had to stop himself from growling in frustration as he knew what Plagueis was waiting for. "My master."
A smug grin appeared on the Muun's face for a second before a neutral look once again took over. "I know not what they were speaking of, only that I put an early end to their conversation. I flooded the void with dark side energy and Starkiller was thrown out quite forcefully."
That had Sidious smirking too, this new Sith was frustrating but also potentially dangerous with that kind of power at his disposal. "A Sith with the ability to that might have his own plans for the Jedi and the galaxy."
Darth Plagueis nodded as he watched the passing traffic. "Indeed, he could prove… problematic to the grand plan."
"Agreed master, I shall send Maul off to deal with him immediately."
"That cur Maul will not be enough to deal with the Jedi and this new Sith. For now, send him to scout them out, only engage if he can get one of them alone. Even then I would advise against engaging this Starkiller, your mutt still has his uses although they are few. Throwing his life away against Starkiller would be a waste."
Once again Sidious was forced to reign in his anger at his master and bowed his head submissively. "As you wish, my Master."
Darth Plagueis watched his apprentice then slink out of his office, he knew that his apprentice was preparing to strike him down and that he had been for a while. It was tradition for the apprentice to battle the master and inevitably take the place of the master. Although his apprentice had been quite secretive about it and it made Plagueis wonder if there would be a true battle or if his apprentice would use an underhanded trick to take the role of Master for himself and rule the galaxy.
If he was being honest the thought of killing his apprentice was something he had been toying with for a while, but Sidious was still useful to him, for now at least. If he could get himself a new apprentice, far younger and with more raw potential then that could change. His thoughts then turned to this new Sith who clearly had no knowledge of hiding his force presence, or he wanted the Jedi and Sith across the galaxy to know he had appeared. Either way this sudden intrusion had put a potential obstacle in his path as it was inevitable that Starkiller would cross him sooner or later.
Then again, the arrival of this new Sith may be a blessing in disguise for the master of the Sith, he was young, powerful and clearly still in need of training. All those factors made him the perfect apprentice to replace Sidious, a cruel smirk formed on Plagueis's face as he thought about recruiting this young Sith, the look on Sidious' face as his new apprentice struck him down on his command. It was decided at that moment, Plagueis wouldn't kill Sidious, at least not for now…
As Darth Plagueis plotted the death of his apprentice, Sidious had returned to his own office, his anger barely under control as he thought back to his master who truly did infuriate him now. The way he spoke to him in particular was gnawing away at the little control he still had over his decision to not yet kill his master. It wouldn't be long until that control snapped, and he finally removed Plagueis from the equation, it was his destiny to take the position of master from him after all.
Of course, before that he ideally needed an apprentice of his own to do his bidding and all he currently had is Maul and for the plans that needed to be set in motion the Zabrek would not be sufficient. Sidious had known all along that Maul was little more than a weapon, a tool for him to strike fear into the Jedi, whether he lived or died did not matter to the grand plan. His significance had fallen even further with the appearance of this young Sith who had invaded the light side of the force with his dark side power. This boy would dwarf Maul's power in no time and Sidious fully intended on capitalising on this Sith's appearance.
Sidious knew that if he was to defeat his master and take his place, he needed a strong apprentice to do his bidding and this boy might just be exactly what he needed. Of course, he had to test the boy first, which meant that Maul had a use to him that was greater than merely making a point to the Jedi. The arrival of Starkiller meant that Maul was no longer needed as a way to tell the Jedi that the Sith were still here hiding in the shadows. Sidious immediately contacted Maul, the Zabrek appearing as a small hologram before him.
Knowing his place now Maul quickly got to one knee and bowed his head. "What is thy bidding my Master?"
If there was one thing Sidious did like about Maul it was his utter submission to him, he had a distinct feeling that this Starkiller would not give him the same respect. At least not at first. "The queens ship has landed on Tatooine, she will be accompanied by two Jedi and a man posing as a Sith. You will find them and kill the Jedi if you can get one of them alone. Only engage the poser if you have no option. I have other plans for him."
"It will be done my Master."
Sidious ended the transmission and sat down at his desk and gazed out at the passing traffic with a sinister smirk on his face, he brought up a copy of the hologram his master had shown him of this new Sith named Darth Starkiller. There was no doubting his power, he had burst through the light side and flooded it with dark side energy, whether that was intentional or not it showed tremendous strength. The boy was young and still had much to learn making him an even more ideal apprentice for him. "Darth Starkiller…. Perfect."
The Jedi Council were not taking the arrival of this Sith quite as well as Plagueis and Sidious had for obvious reasons. It had been one thousand years since the believed destruction of the Sith and the appearance of one now had them all on edge. An emergency Council meeting had been arranged and the Jedi Council had all gathered in the chamber, the situation was so serious that Count Dooku had even requested to be present, at least in hologram form.
Unlike most Council meeting this one lacked the calmness and curtesy that was usually shown, everyone apart from Master Yoda had obviously been shaken by the arrival of this Sith. The tapping of Yodas cane on the floor soon quietened everyone although judging by the anxious fidgeting in their seats it was clear that they still had much more to say.
The Jedi Council were then shown security tapes from the palace, though the poor quality and lack of sound made it difficult to ascertain who had recorded them and how they had sent them to the Council which was suspicious, in Count Dooku's opinion at least. Everyone else was so focussed on this Sith that they weren't even thinking about that.
As he watched the footage Count Dooku couldn't help but be impressed, first by the Sith's quick thinking against the Droideka and then the way he had dismantled the droids in the hangar. It was clear to him that with the right training this Sith would be a force to be reckoned with. Once the last of the footage had been played again a huge discussion broke out as various Jedi started to voice their opinions at the same time. Count Dooku chuckled as he watched Jedi, he'd known for years throwing out ideas to either arrest this Sith, hunt him down and remove him, or somehow use public opinion against him.
In the end, Count Dooku settled on waiting until everyone else had had their say although that could be quite a while at this rate. Once again it took the tapping of a cane to silence the room and turn all eyes to the Grandmaster of the Jedi Order, he'd noticed that the only one to remain silent so far had been the former member of the Order. Yoda of course knew that was solely because Count Dooku preferred to hear everyone's opinion first before giving his own. "Speak you may Count Dooku."
All eyes quickly turned to Count Dooku who bowed his head slightly towards Master Yoda. "Thank you Master. My friends, I believe we should not act so recklessly; I understand that everyone is on edge right now because of the sudden appearance of the Sith but acting on that fear would be dangerous. From the footage we have seen all this Sith has done is free Queen Amidala and help her escape Naboo. The fact that both my former padawan and Obi-Wan Kenobi are alive and seemingly unharmed must be considered."
Mace Windu was not a fan of this opinion and not for the first time would voice his disagreement with Count Dooku. "So, you're saying we should sit here and do nothing?" The attention of all Council members turned to Mace Windu who was frustrated by the Counts willingness to allow a Sith to walk around freely.
"Yes, I doubt the public will see it in a good light if you charge in there and kill or arrest him when we have no proof of him doing anything remotely illegal."
"He. Is. A. Sith." Mace Windu emphasised every word, his disdain evident.
Count Dooku chuckled at the Master of the Order "Master Windu there is not a court in the galaxy that would convict solely for that reason. We cannot punish someone for the crimes committed by those one thousand years in the past. I myself would be quite interested in conversing with this Sith since he seems to be so different from the Sith of one thousand years ago."
Dooku was having far too much fun with this, he could tell that Master Windu was on the verge of exploding if the glare he was directing at him was anything to go by. It was never his intention to rile up the Master of the Order, he had merely wanted to make sure his old padawan was safe, but hearing some of the opinions being thrown around especially by Mace had almost forced Count Dooku's hand.
Before things could get any further out of hand Yoda tapped his cane on the floor once again gaining everyone's attention. "Agree with Dooku I do, patient we must be. Meditate on this I will."
On Matters such as this Master Yodas word was final and reluctantly all members of the Council agreed with the decision. Even Mace Windu gave in and agreed to for now at least remain here and not take aggressive actions against this Sith. "It's settled then, Council adjourned." Mace Windu quickly left the Chamber not wanting to argue any further with Count Dooku in particular.
All the Council members filed out of the room until it was just Count Dooku and Master Yoda alone. The Grandmaster stood up and approached the hologram of Count Dooku. "An ally you believe this Sith to be?"
Count Dooku took a moment to ponder the question, there wasn't really enough evidence to prove the Sith of being and ally, but he certainly wasn't an enemy. "I don't know if ally is the correct term Master Yoda, but I do not believe this Sith is our enemy. If he were, he would have killed Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan immediately and then possibly kidnapped that Queen."
"Hard to believe it is. An enemy to the Jedi, the Sith have been." There was a brief pause as both considered that fact and what they had witnessed on the security footage. "Return to the Jedi Order, will you?"
The change of topic didn't surprise Dooku, it was commonplace to change the subject when the topic potentially clashed with the Jedi Code. "Will you implement the changes I have suggested?" silence was the only response the Count received earning a saddened sigh from Count Dooku. "My apologies Master but I cannot come back to the Order in its current state. There must be changes, the arrival of this Sith should be evidence of that."
"Served the Jedi Code for one thousand years we have. Lead us astray it has not."
This was a common argument prior to Count Dooku leaving the Jedi Order and it appeared that not even the return of the Sith would bring about the changes needed. It was an argument that Dooku was sick of having and knew that it was about time he took his leave once again. "Goodbye Master Yoda."
The hologram faded away, so Yoda was left alone in the Council Chambers, he walked out to go and meditate, his cane tapping on the floor as he took one last look at where the Count had been. "Farewell my old padawan."
This chapter was hard to write solely because I couldn't decide which character I wanted to include, the main ones being Plageuis and Count Dooku. In the end I settled on both since they are both important for obvious reasons. It was nice being able to write something outside of the main plotlines of Phantom Menace though next time we'll be back on Tatooine.
Thank you all for reading, I hope you'll stick around for the next chapter.
