Hi, I know time travel fics aren't exactly the most original fics when it comes to Star Wars but I just finished The Force Unleashes and thought it would be interesting sending Galen Marek AKA Starkiller back to the past.
We've hit 100 followers guys, this is insane to me and I really do appreciate the support for this you all so much.
Shoutouts to GrandMasterNinjaRen, R1VN, Juxshoa and twisterblake2015 who left reviews on chapter 5
Quick answer to a guest who questioned about Shaak Ti's lightsaber being in possession of Lord Starkiller which presented a possible plot hole however I believe Shaak Ti lost her lightsaber to General Grievous meaning she probably had to construct a new one afterward. That would be the one Starkiller would take when he defeated her on Felucia. If I'm wrong and Shaak Ti did, in fact, keep her original lightsaber feel free to tell me as I already have an idea in place to hopefully mitigate that plot hole.
I hope you enjoy this chapter, feel free to give any advice.
Starkiller grumbled under his breath as he felt grains of sand making their way into his boots, he really did not like this planet on his first visit and this time it was even worse. Tatooine was just as hot as he remembered, only this time he was forced to wear this damn helmet which made the almost unbearable heat ten times worse. Thankfully, they were nearing Mos Espa and their trek through the desert would soon be over, at least he hoped it would be otherwise he was really going to start having an almost irrational hatred of sand.
The Sith Lord turned his gaze to his two human companions, the Gungan he was doing his best to ignore, and the droid that had saved them. He half-listened to Qui-Gon and the handmaiden talking about the problems with slavery, but he wasn't that interested especially when the Gungan decided to add something idiotic and mundane to the conversation. With everything going on since his arrival in the past he honestly had far more important things to ponder.
It was still quite surreal to him that he was in the past and standing alongside someone who either should be dead already or would have died soon. So far, he'd found Qui-Gon to be nothing like he expected of a Jedi within the order, to call him a maverick would be an understatement. This Jedi seemed to have more of an open mind, his decision to trust in the force and fight alongside a Sith proved that. The padawan, on the other hand, seemed like the stereotypical Jedi and if the rest of the Order had a similar mindset, he probably won't get a great reception on Coruscant.
Starkillers attention shifted to the handmaiden and was curious why the queen was so insistent on sending the handmaiden with them, slavery is slavery at the end of the day and a scouting mission wouldn't tell her any more than what she already knew. Maybe she wanted to try and free the slaves someday and wanted to know who to focus on though the prospect of ending slavery here was very unlikely to happen. So long as the Hutt's ran this planet there will always be slavery and nothing would change that.
Suddenly the handmaiden ended her conversation with Qui-Gon and looked directly at Starkiller. "Are you sure you wish to accompany us Lord Starkiller?"
The question surprised Starkiller a little since it seemingly came out of the blue. "Of course, why do you ask?"
There was a brief moment of silence as the handmaiden seemed to consider the best way to word her response. "Well you tend to… stand out a little in your armour. It might draw unwanted attention to you."
Starkiller chuckled as he knew from his first time here that it would actually be quite the opposite. "That's one of the few positives of Tatooine handmaiden. The stranger you look, the more you fit in with the people. Trust me nobody will bat an eyelid at me."
Silence took over the group as they finally arrived at Mos Espa, they entered the settlement and a quick look around of the nearby area told them everything they needed to know about this planet. Starkiller felt a little pity for the handmaiden as he saw the look in her eyes as she looked at what life was like in slavery. Maybe this was why the queen had sent her, to get a view of the horrors of slavery first-hand.
It didn't help that there were suspicious figures stood around every corner and the situation had even put the usually calm Qui-Gon on edge, his hand now gripping the hilt of his lightsaber under the cloak. "I believe it would be in our best interest to lay low whilst we're here and get the hyperdrive as quickly as possible." Qui-Gon suggested as he scanned the area for threats.
Starkiller had also moved a hand to his lightsaber just in case something happened, which it more than likely would as his first visit to this planet hadn't exactly been peaceful. "Every settlement has a few vendors selling parts, hopefully we'll be fitting that hyperdrive by nightfall and we can get the queen to Coruscant."
As they wandered through the streets looking for a store there was something that the handmaiden had been wondering. "Wouldn't it be easier to just trade our ship in for something simpler that could get us to Coruscant?"
Qui-Gon shook his head. "I'm afraid not, a ship from this planet would be tracked or sabotaged, the former would provide valuable information that could be sold to the Trade Federation while the later would leave us stranded. Our only option is to find the replacement parts."
It was at that moment that Starkiller remembered something particularly important to this planet when it comes to purchasing items, something that his companions likely did not know since they seemed to be almost unaware of the existence of Tatooine. "Master Jinn is correct, trading your ship for a new one is not an option. Tell me do you have the resources to purchase a new hyperdrive?"
"I have Republic credits, more than enough to cover the cost."
Starkiller knew how well that would go down with the vendor they tried to deal with so decided it was time to attend to the main reason he had come planet side in the first place. He broke away from Qui-Gon and the handmaiden, his destination being a seedy bar down a back alley. Usually he would avoid bars like this, but it was the best shot at getting what he wanted from Tatooine and he'd been in this bar before, albeit far in the future when he had been searching for Kota.
"Where are you going Lord Starkiller?"
For a moment Starkiller considered telling the truth though he suspected it probably would only worry them. "To get a drink. I shall meet up with you later."
The rest of the group watched as Starkiller walked over to the bouncer outside the bar, his sudden decision left everyone bar Qui-Gon confused. "Hesa must be bery thirsty."
"Trust me Jar-Jar, you don't go into bars like that for a drink." Qui-Gon stated.
The handmaiden's brow furrowed as she wondered what exactly Starkiller had gone in there for. "So why do you go in bars like that?"
There was a brief silence as Qui-Gon considered how much to tell the young woman. "You go there for information or for something I don't believe you're old enough to know about your majesty."
Padme stopped in place and looked wild-eyed at Qui-Gon in shock, she had thought her disguise was full proof, yet he had seen right through it. "You knew all along?"
A chuckle escaped Qui-Gon as he watched Starkiller disappear into the darkness of the bar. "Yes, your double is very convincing though. My padawan has no idea."
That gave Padme some relief as it seemed only the keen senses of a Jedi Master had seen through the ruse. Although she then had to wonder whether their Sith ally knew of her real identity, she was about to ask the Jedi Master if Starkiller also knew but he had already started walking towards a nearby store manned by what looked to be a Toydarian. He certainly didn't look like the most trustworthy person, but it seemed as though that would be an accurate description for a large chunk of the populace of Tatooine.
Padme walked over to Qui-Gon and the Toydarian who quickly introduced himself as Waato, the owner of the store and more importantly the owner of a hyperdrive that would fit their ship. Qui-Gon followed Waato to where the hyperdrive was being kept leaving Padme with a young boy who was working on some little device.
Since the boy seemed so enraptured in fixing whatever it was Padme decided to have a look around the store while Qui-Gon dealt with the Toydarian. As she glanced at some old droids the young boy spoke up. "Are you an angel?" a soft smile replaced the trouble frown on Padme's face, and she turned her attention to the boy.
Meanwhile, Starkiller was slowly making his way through the bar which strangely wasn't much different to how it looked in the future which he thought was probably just a way to cover some of the illicit activities that went on here. It seemed as though the patrons who attended this bar were no different either, sure they were different people but were just like the ones who'd occupied it in the future.
There was every kind of criminal here from petty thieves to Bounty Hunters, and because all the patrons here were criminals Starkiller had no problem using the force to acquire a few peggats from each of them. He'd need them if he wanted to get any information that was remotely trustworthy.
A few minutes and a lot of Peggats later Starkiller sat down at the bar waiting patiently for the Er'Kit bartender to come over. He knew that when it came to this bar you waited your turn; he'd seen what had happened to someone who hadn't waited and well it hadn't turned out well for the unfortunate Rodian.
Eventually the bartender finished with his other patrons and walked over to the Sith Lord who immediately opened the pouch he was storing his stolen peggats un and slid several of the precious currency across the counter to the Er'Kit. "I want a glass of your cheapest swill." Starkiller hoped that the secret meaning to that was the same now as it was in the future.
The bartender gave a quick nod. "Coming right up." He then quickly poured the drink and placed the glass in front of Starkiller. After taking a quick look around to make sure no one was listening the bartender leaned closer to the Sith Lord. "So, how may I be of service today?"
Starkiller picked up the glass of alcohol, if you could really call it that, and gently shook it, watching the liquid swirl around the glass. "I require information on a certain member of royalty from a nearby planet, I have a vested interest in seeing this person captured. Do you know where this ruler is?" A few more peggats were slid towards the Er'Kit who was quick to hide them away.
"Ah I see, you're a Bounty Hunter, I'd guessed as much. Well my friend I think you already know that she is a hot topic in every nearby sector. The last time her ship was seen it was travelling down the Corellian Run with the intention of going to Coruscant." The bartender paused waiting for some more peggats which were quickly passed over. "The problem for them is that the Hyper Drive was damaged as they fled. So, they are going to have to land to make repairs. Bounty Hunters like you are scouring the nearby systems for her."
Starkiller slid a few more peggats across the bar knowing that the Er'Kit would be expecting more. "Any idea where she might be?"
The bartender looked around, seeming a little agitated before quickly pocketing the peggats and leant even closer to Starkiller. "Rumours are that they're either on Ryloth or Savareen. Personally, I'd say they're on Ryloth, it may be further away from Coruscant but the Twi'leks are far more friendly with Naboo than those living on Savareen."
"What about here on Tatooine? This is just off the Corellian Run."
The bartender laughed at the mere suggestion. "No way, they'd never bring her to this lawless ball of sand. It's Ryloth for sure."
With that Starkiller had all the information he needed, now he just had to find Qui-Gon and the handmaiden. "Pleasure doing business with you. Oh, and don't tell anyone else about this." Starkiller dropped the entire pouch of Peggats on the counter, which were shoved under the counter by the Er'Kit who shrugged as he emptied the glass that had been filled with Starkillers drink. "Tell them what?"
Starkiller gave the Er'Kit a quick nod and swiftly left the bar, only now realising just how long he'd been waiting for this information. The wait had been worth it though and he hoped this would reassure his companions that they were relatively safe here for now at least. Starkiller reached out with the force searching for Qui-Gon's presence and quickly found the beacon of light side energy coming from the west.
As he headed towards his companions Starkiller had to admit he was curious about how the search for a hyperdrive had gone when they didn't have any of the planets currency to barter with. Part of him knew that he probably should have warned them as soon as he remembered about Peggats, but he had to find out the hard way on his first visit so he figured that they should do the same.
Alright so there is chapter 6, I didn't write any of the encounter between Anakin and Padme since it would be exactly the same as what played out originally. I'm going to avoid writing scenes like that since they are redundant. Although I may add in brief moments from the original timeline like the 'Are you an Angel?' part.
Thank you so much for reading and I hope you stick around for the next chapter
